I have ordered from this restaurant a handful of times already and each time the food is delicious. The chicken has a charcoal grilled taste and is very well seasoned. The rice also has great flavor. This was the first time I ordered their garlic shrimp and I was a bit disappointed in the size of the shrimp but it was provided with a sauce and it was very good. The shrimp also came with ample rice. This was enough food to feed four adults. I will continue ordering from this restaurant. Very good! read more

I normally drive down to Newark when I'm craving Portuguese BBQ, but was surprised there's one next town over from me when I did a Yelp search. So I had to try this place immediately! I ordered chicken, pork ribs, and beef ribs (see pics). IMHO, the food was just okay compared to the places I go to in Newark. To be more specific, they were a little dry for my taste... ALSO, the charges on the bill was more than what the menu listed. I read the previous reviews about this "prices malpractice" while waiting for the food. Tried this place for the 1st time. The place is small and doesn't seem well kept. I approached the register to place my order of the chicken and ribs combo. A few minutes after I ordered, I noticed the coffee pot had coffee with mold on it. That wasn't pleasant to look at. Surprisingly, the food was good, a little salty, though. It will feed 2-4 people, and the price was fair. Overall, it wasn't great and wouldn't go out of my way to try it. read more

Prize: if you check the menu they have good prizes, but when you want to pay the owner will charge you whatever he wants. 1 order of beef ribs $18 according with the menu, he charged us $26 and 1 combo (pork ribs and chicken) in the menu is $14, he charged us $16. I am not going to rate food since we never ate here! The guy behind the counter lacks a lot of customer service as well as manners! Time on website says 10:30pm we went in right away he went in the kitchen talking Portuguese and complaining about us , took an order on the phone in Portuguese and told us they closed at 9 but in a very rude way and stated let me see what is left in the kitchen! I apologized and told him the hours of operation stated 10:30 I then told him a few words in Portuguese to let him know I understood him on the phone!!! I was really upset since we moved in the area and love Portuguese food but a hassle to drive to Newark ! Moved to elmwood park about a week ago and was anxious to try all the new takeout places in my new neighborhood... I stumbled upon something that i wasn't used to seeing available in my old town, and that was the European Grill (known for there Portuguese bbq) ... I placed an order for a whole chicken and a rack of ribs... Each order came with an ample amount of rice and french fries that you could practically feed an army... Both the chicken and ribs were extremely tasty and not to mention the rice was perfectly tender as well... I love giving local businesses a try. This place is so worth it and I go at least 3 times a month. The platter with chicken, rice, and fries is to die for. The chicken is so fresh and juicy. Rice is typical portuguese style, not a lot of flavoring but fits perfectly with the flavorful chicken. And the fries are skinny, golden, crispy slivers of potato that I can't stop shoving into my mouth. Ask for the hot sauce. It's very delicious and different that any other hot sauce I have ever had. They also have a nice little selection of Portuguese drinks, serving sumol and guarana. I am looking forward to trying more things on the menu. Prices are so affordable. Disappointed. The European Grill used to be our favorite Portuguese restaurant by us in Clifton. We ordered from them yesterday for my son's birthday and they must have someone else working the kitchen now. The 2 beef trays we ordered were not medium...they were will done, so they were dry and tough. The french fries were salty...and I like salty, so it was way too salty. I used to be a fan of Portuguese Tavern until I found this place. The only difference between this business and another Portuguese Tavern is the rice! I don't know what it is but they have a better rice recipe than other locations. I've dealt with the dry taste of rice before and just figured not every country knows how to make it correctly, but they have a great rice mixture that allows that soft moist texture I am used to as a hispanic. read more

I was excited to order from here because they offered delivery! Also the menu stated that the BBQ Beef ribs were 18 for a whole order. So I placed the order and the guy told me he would call me back for payment (I was going to use my credit card). As I was waiting for my call back, I started reading the previous reviews about the random price changes. I don't like being scammed, so I called back to cancel my order to which the guy claimed was ready already.... impossible. So I asked how much it would be and he said "25 plus tax," so I questioned the pricing and said it was advertised as 18 and he said "the menu is not up to date," so I said "that's deceiving" and once again asked if I could cancel the order and he "okay" and hung up. I then ordered from Portuguese Tavern on Crooks Ave. their price is 20... only downfall is they don't deliver! Maybe the food here would have been good, but I don't care for dishonesty. Very disappointed we order a regular combo chicken and ribs and we got the worse food. The chicken was bones only meat same for the ribs.
