I would give this place a 2.5 as the overall experience was not good. The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful so I had high hopes going in. The outside tents were a nice touch and there were heated lamps to keep the outside warm. I chose to sit inside as it's allergy season and I thought it was cold out. Although we had an advance reservation they sat us at the bar area instead of the main dining area. The music by the bar was extremely loud. We asked to move, but they lowered the music instead and said that it might be louder in the main dining area because of speakers. I was ok staying by the bar once they lowered the music. It was better and they honestly did not seem like they wanted to move us into the main room. Our waiter seemed knowledgeable about the menu and was nice, but I did feel like I was being oversold on everything. We ordered the crab, shrimp cocktail and the dip with pita and veggies for an appetizer. Our main meals were the seafood pasta and the sea bass (branzino) with dandelion. The food was not good. We first got a pita basket with olives. This was ok, but then the appetizer came with more pita . This was supposedly a mistake, but if we knew we were getting so much pita, we probably would not have gotten the dip with pita. We did not care for any of the dips. The side veggies that were an extra addition and charged for, also did not taste fresh. The crab was good (prob one of the most edible things), but not great and the shrimp was average. My branzino meal was not edible. I had 2 bites and my husband had one, and it was all bones. I also met a woman in the bathroom who complained of the same exact experience. The dandelions were also awful and this is one of my favorite side dishes. They bought me out a replacement halibut that was tasteless. The fish was accompanied by sauce and sides but I did not care for any of it. My husband who felt bad complaining said his meal was also very average. The fish in his dish was bland. The manager did come over and apologize which I respected, but all in all it was a complete waste of a night and money as far as food is concerned. I probably would not go back unless I was convinced that the food got substantially better.

I have been for dinner plenty of times, but came for lunch on a nice afternoon. Sat outside in the covered tent area that is well decorated. We started off with the Horiatiki with grilled chicken and the Greek meatballs. Very good and fresh. For the mains, both the Halibut special and the Braised short rib cavatelli were amazing. Elia never disappoints. They always put out great service, stylish decor and quality food.

Elia Mediterranean Restaurant at 240 Hackensack Street East Rutherford, NJ. To be honest, I thought the location wasn't in a nicer spot but it was easy to find and get parking. We went for early lunch so no reservations needed. Entering inside, your in a white, large modern dining area with lots of seating, a separate private room and a full bar with bartender. Felt like we were transported to a place in Greece! The open kitchen has a front display of fresh produce and seafood for added ambiance. Very nice. And we were served by a very professional and attentive waiter named Christian. To help with the selection of my wine, he offered me some to try. I thought that was a great way for them to introduce some new choices to us. Next we chose off the lunch special menu. Great deal since this restaurant is listed as a pricey place, the lunch menu kept the bill more reasonable for us. I have to give compliments to the wait staff. There was never an empy water glass, or a finished plate left on the table, and lemon was given whenever needed. The bottom line is that everything we got was deliscious! But to narrow it down, try the Tuna Tar Tar, the Grilled Salmon and the Mango Sorbet. Heard there is a violin on some evenings, and on Thursdays evening there's dancing to the 80's and 90's music. They also have outdoors seating with and without a tent. And valet parking offered as well. Thank you Elia for having a well put together restaurant and menu. Im looking forward to Thursday evenings for the dancing.!

Recently dined here for a birthday dinner. Nice ambiance with welcoming and attentive service. Ordered apps and main entrees. We did bring our own cake and was charged a $30 cutting fee. Food was well presented, delicious. Parking is valet only unless you park on the street. A bit pricey but overall a nice dining experience.

A time was had while at Elia! It was more than just dinner it was an experience. My friend had planned their birthday dinner at Elia. We started with some drinks and I had an espresso martini. It was good! And then we shared some appetizers. We got the fries with the feta cheese, crispy brussel sprouts, pita spread, and feta sticks. Everything came out in a lovely presentation and tasted as good as it looks. I had ordered the crab stuffed shrimp served with a butternut squash puree. Loved the flavors. My sister had gotten the seafood pasta and she enjoyed her meal. During dinner the music turned up and the waiter started swinging their napkins and dancing around the restaurant. It was such a fun vibe and they got the whole restaurant involved. We loved it! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and you can get great pics everywhere! This is worth a visit!

Beautiful restaurant and service was great. The food? Not worth the price at all. We ordered the lamb chops ($45) and filet mignon ($55) - both were under seasoned (if seasoned at all) and not enjoyable, especially for the price. To start we ordered the calamari that came with baby shrimp and it was fine, fried nicely but not something I'd come back for. The dips and spreads were decent but I've had better. Horiatiki salad was ok - they created a new whipped feta to go with the salad and that was delicious - if I could order that alone with pita bread, I'd be a happy customer. Roasted lemon potato wedges were delicious, but it only came with four wedges for $10. The star of the night was the dessert special - it was a chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse on top some sugared/crystallized sprinkles, and chocolate ice cream, we were worried it may be too intense with all the chocolate elements but it was surprisingly balanced and not overly sweet or decadent, it was light and delicious. It was the highlight of our night despite the overpriced, mediocre meat. Drinks - my friends enjoyed their rose water sangria. I also enjoyed my Mykonos mocktail that was very refreshing. Overall, I wouldn't return or recommend for dinner. While there were some items and aspects we enjoyed the main protein dishes really were a miss. I think the sides, appetizers, and rose water sangria would be the reasons I'd return(if at all) for a lighter meal option that I know would be better.

    Lemon Shrimp

Very expensive, portions were small and food was ok. I got the lemon shrimp with the corn risotto. The risotto was good but the shrimp flavor/texture wasn't great. The waiters also try so hard to sell you on the specials and drinks and it became very overbearing while we were trying to enjoy our meal. Seemed almost deceiving the way they would word things to try and get us to spend more money (Ex: That appetizer looked it was a little light for you guys, why don't I get you another one?) We had to keep repeating several times throughout the night that NO we did not want more. I wouldn't go back

This was my second time at Elia and it was just as great as the first time! We came for a birthday dinner with friends. Lots of apps were passed around the table - we had the Greek spreads with pita, the Spinach pie rolls, the octopus and crispy feta sticks. The octopus was cooked to perfection. For dinner I had the Chilean Sea Bass - I've never had a piece of fish so fresh and this was on point! It came with a squid ink risotto. So good, I wanted a second plate after. The service was great thanks to Rommel!

    Menu (as of May 2025)

Ordered: Rose Water Sangria (~$18): rose water from the island of Chios, Moschofilero & Assuritko wine, Absolut vodka & fresh fruit Pineapple Martini (~$18): pineapple infused Belvedere vodka & simple syrup Eggplant & Zucchini Chips (~$18) Elia Saganaki Bites (~$22): watermelon, saganaki cheese, thyme honey, fresh mint Fire Grilled Octopus (~$28): adobo rub, warm lentil salad, mild spicy basil aioli Red Snapper (MP ~$95): served with lemon potatoes and horta (steamed wild greens) Aya's take: Teleport to Greece without leaving New Jersey by coming to Elia! I was astonished to find a place like this where the ambiance is beautiful (both indoor and outdoor), the food was fresh and tasty, and the service was solid! We started with a couple of drinks which were both well mad. The Rose Water Sangria stood out to me because I love anything rose flavored. It was light and refreshing but the rose taste definitely got lost among the wine, vodka, and fruit. It was still nice to sip on. The Eggplant & Zucchini Chips were super addictive; the batter was delicately light, crispy on the inside, yet the eggplant and zucchini still had perfect texture. This is a must-have on the table! The Elia Saganki Bites were also great. I loved the thyme honey on it and would've preferred if they offered it on the side to dip in as much as I wanted. The Fire Grilled Octopus was good too but was almost room temperature on arrival. Had it have been fresher, I think I would've enjoyed it more. Before we ordered, our waiter Evangelos showed us what fish was fresh that day. The Red Snapper stood out to us and we decided to order it grilled on charcoal. It came with lemon potatoes and horta (steamed wild greens) which were both fine but I would've preferred choosing my own 2 sides instead. What we didn't know was that the market price would be ~$95! I've been to my fair share of restaurants where fresh fish is prepared and grilled similarly and it was a fraction of the cost. The fish can be easily split among 3 people so the cost is more reasonable from that perspective. The icing on the cake was that they had their signature burlesque show on Thursdays! We had no idea and were super thrilled to have come on the right night to watch this. All in all, I loved Elia! It's probably one of the best dining experiences I've had in New Jersey. It's elevated, modern, and the right balance of classy and casual. Highly recommend!

A lot of these reviews are BAD. I was definitely hesitant coming here, but was invited by someone who had been here many times. After tonight, they also agreed that it's just not what it used to be. My experience didn't contain any of that, but I wouldn't consider this a place I'd come back to. The Ouzo Spritz was a little too heavy on the ouzo. The crab stuffed shrimp was dry. I did really enjoy our apps, especially the fried feta sticks and the spicy feta dip. Service was attentive but the guys playing the violin/electric drum to the DJs music def felt out of place. Beautiful restaurant but they have some things to improve.

Sad steak. Went on a Thursday nigh 7 pm reservations. Amazing ambience! My waiter was mediocre, didn't fit the vibe of the place. Drinks are fancy and strong. The Mediterranean mule was a bit too sweet it didn't leave any space for dessert. We enjoyed the appetizers, the zucchini chips were delish along with the fresh tzatziki sauce. I ordered a $40 medium well skirt stake, assuming it was accompanied by something I added a side of garlic roasted potatoes. But when I got the plate it was a sad piece of meat. I was so disappointed. The meat was also overcooked with charred edges. My date enjoyed his Chilean bass so it wasn't a complete disappointment but for the overall price of the place expectations were high.

Fantastic experience. We happened to find ourselves in the area from the city and needed a last-minute dinner. As lovers of Mediterranean and Greek food we decided on Elia and I'm so glad that we did. Everything that we ate from the dips to both of our mains were absolutely fantastic. We were so pleasantly surprised. Service was wonderful and the staff couldn't have been friendlier and we absolutely loved the ambience. Overall, if we're ever in the Rutherford area again, we will 100% be making a stop at Elia.

I could have used a charred onion or a pickled vegetable. The cucumber tomato salad was good, the chicken was moist and the beef was tender. The rice was a little disappointing. The hummus tasted a bland, like it needed more tahini, garlic, salt and lemon. I know I was one of the last people in for lunch, maybe my timing was a bit off. I've heard rave reviews from other people!

He really took care of us. He goes above and beyond and gives great effort. We got the French onion soup to start. Super good. Lovely cheese baked over all the top of the bowl. The flavor is crazy. The broth is amazing. I loved every bite of that. Then we got the pastilla and tajine d'agneau. The pastilla is delectable. A must. It's some of the wildest flavor combinations I've ever experienced. You're eating shredded chicken mixed with cinnamon and white powdered sugar. All within phyllo dough. The tajine is fun to try, but it was just OK. It's kind of like a lamb stew. I will give kudos to a very soft and not too chewy Lamb. The prunes and apricots are such a unique flavor duo with these. Couscous is fun. This meal was a 4 for me but everything else, divine. The music was fun. They a live guitarist and sax player serenaded us. Dim lighting. Such a prime location. Lovely to walk through this neighborhood after you're stuffed.

Great seafood, but our server completed disrespected us and our experience…read more We came to Molos for a special occasion, and what should have been a great dinner became extremely uncomfortable because of how our waitress handled her own pricing mistake. She told us the surf & turf was $95, so we asked several questions before ordering because, $95 is a significant amount. We decided to order it and have it split between two people, as well as the lobster pasta for some variety. Since I am the only one who eats lobster, the other person we were with was going to eat the ribeye, making it a perfect dish to split. We were then shocked to see $145 on the bill. When we questioned it, she admitted she had entered a larger portion by mistake. When we asked if anything could be done, instead of simply apologizing, she told us: "next time, you need to tell me you got a bigger portion." We were completely distraught. How were we supposed to know? We had never ordered the dish before and were relying on the description and price she gave us. The situation became even more upsetting when she asked about the lobster, found out it was in our takeout bag, and actually went into our takeout bag to pull it out and question whether we were going to take it home and eat it. We were so uncomfortable that we even told her she could take it back if she wanted, but completely drawing the line as she accused us of not speaking up after her mistake. We felt like we were being blamed and treated as though we had done something wrong, when the mistake was made on HER end. The manager Mike was incredibly kind and immediately corrected the bill. But it looked as if the waitress was trying her best to hide the mistake, and immediately rushed out after the manager saw how offended we felt. Unfortunately, the way we were treated completely overshadowed the meal. Mistakes happen, but making customers feel degraded over a mistake that wasn't theirs is unacceptable. We will not be returning.
