I would give this place a 2.5 as the overall experience was not good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful so I had high hopes going in. The outside tents were a nice touch and there were heated lamps to keep the outside warm[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I chose to sit inside as it's allergy season and I thought it was cold out. Although we had an advance reservation they sat us at the bar area instead of the main dining area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music by the bar was extremely loud. We asked to move, but they lowered the music instead and said that it might be louder in the main dining area because of speakers[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I was ok staying by the bar once they lowered the music. It was better and they honestly did not seem like they wanted to move us into the main room. Our waiter seemed knowledgeable about the menu and was nice, but I did feel like I was being oversold on everything. We ordered the crab, shrimp cocktail and the dip with pita and veggies for an appetizer. Our main meals were the seafood pasta and the sea bass (branzino) with dandelion. The food was not good. We first got a pita basket with olives. This was ok, but then the appetizer came with more pita . This was supposedly a mistake, but if we knew we were getting so much pita, we probably would not have gotten the dip with pita. We did not care for any of the dips. The side veggies that were an extra addition and charged for, also did not taste fresh. The crab was good (prob one of the most edible things), but not great and the shrimp was average. My branzino meal was not edible. I had 2 bites and my husband had one, and it was all bones. I also met a woman in the bathroom who complained of the same exact experience. The dandelions were also awful and this is one of my favorite side dishes. They bought me out a replacement halibut that was tasteless. The fish was accompanied by sauce and sides but I did not care for any of it. My husband who felt bad complaining said his meal was also very average. The fish in his dish was bland. The manager did come over and apologize which I respected, but all in all it was a complete waste of a night and money as far as food is concerned. I wish I lived closer! I would bring my family and friends here. Came here dor a celebratory work dinner. It was fantastic! Marcello took such good care of us. The ambiance is great. We split apps of oysters, corn fritters (sweet and delish), grilled octopus (sooo good), tuna tartare (I think best I ever had), and chicken lollipops (massive with an interesting glaze). For my main I had the pasta special with black fettuccine, shrimp, lobster in a cream sauce. To die for! Elia Mediterranean Restaurant at 240 Hackensack Street East Rutherford, NJ. To be honest, I thought the location wasn't in a nicer spot but it was easy to find and get parking. We went for early lunch so no reservations needed. Entering inside, your in a white, large modern dining area with lots of seating, a separate private room and a full bar with bartender. Felt like we were transported to a place in Greece! The open kitchen has a front display of fresh produce and seafood for added ambiance. Very nice. And we were served by a very professional and attentive waiter named Christian. To help with the selection of my wine, he offered me some to try. I thought that was a great way for them to introduce some new choices to us. Next we chose off the lunch special menu. Great deal since this restaurant is listed as a pricey place, the lunch menu kept the bill more reasonable for us. I have to give compliments to the wait staff. There was never an empy water glass, or a finished plate left on the table, and lemon was given whenever needed. The bottom line is that everything we got was deliscious! But to narrow it down, try the Tuna Tar Tar, the Grilled Salmon and the Mango Sorbet. Heard there is a violin on some evenings, and on Thursdays evening there's dancing to the 80's and 90's music. They also have outdoors seating with and without a tent. And valet parking offered as well. Thank you Elia for having a well put together restaurant and menu. A time was had while at Elia! It was more than just dinner it was an experience. My friend had planned their birthday dinner at Elia. We started with some drinks and I had an espresso martini. It was good! And then we shared some appetizers. We got the fries with the feta cheese, crispy brussel sprouts, pita spread, and feta sticks. Everything came out in a lovely presentation and tasted as good as it looks. I had ordered the crab stuffed shrimp served with a butternut squash puree. Loved the flavors. My sister had gotten the seafood pasta and she enjoyed her meal. During dinner the music turned up and the waiter started swinging their napkins and dancing around the restaurant. We ordered the lamb chops ($45) and filet mignon ($55) - both were under seasoned (if seasoned at all) and not enjoyable, especially for the price. To start we ordered the calamari that came with baby shrimp and it was fine, fried nicely but not something I'd come back for. The dips and spreads were decent but I've had better. Horiatiki salad was ok - they created a new whipped feta to go with the salad and that was delicious - if I could order that alone with pita bread, I'd be a happy customer. Roasted lemon potato wedges were delicious, but it only came with four wedges for $10. The star of the night was the dessert special - it was a chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse on top some sugared/crystallized sprinkles, and chocolate ice cream, we were worried it may be too intense with all the chocolate elements but it was surprisingly balanced and not overly sweet or decadent, it was light and delicious. It was the highlight of our night despite the overpriced, mediocre meat. Drinks - my friends enjoyed their rose water sangria. I also enjoyed my Mykonos mocktail that was very refreshing. Overall, I wouldn't return or recommend for dinner. While there were some items and aspects we enjoyed the main protein dishes really were a miss. Soooo disappointed, asked our server to describe the Greek spreads and he was hesitant when describing. Since he NEVER mentioned fish roe we ate the spreads. Fast forward, I had such an allergic reaction because fish roe contains shrimp eggs and other eggs from marine animals. I almost wound up in the emergency room, I could not breathe. I called this morning and the hostess assured me the manager would call me back but no call, no care in the world about what happened. I know I'm only one person but my family, friends and I will never return to this restaurant. Food: started with the mezze plate and the zucchini/eggplant chips. Like Caster Troy, who can eat a peach for hours, I could eat this stuff seven days a week and twice on Sunday. Two apps was plenty for four people. If I had to pick one, it's the zucchini and eggplant chips for the win. Service: pretty damn good. I asked that our server bring me another sangria when the one I was drinking was almost done and sure enough, as I took my last sip, another drink appeared. Cheers. Polite. Professional. Presentable. Atmosphere: Unique-ish. If you have been to Avra or Limani, (two of my favs) they feel very Mediterranean when you walk in. So does this place. However, around 8:30 or 9:00 pm, holy cow, Greek dance party equipped with DJ Danny take the heck over. Some dude is running around with a violin. There is the Greek version of a conga line and it is loud as all hell. If you want that, go here. If you want quiet so you can talk, don't. Like Fat Joe and Remy Ma, the music is "all the way up". It was light and refreshing but the rose taste definitely got lost among the wine, vodka, and fruit. It was still nice to sip on. The Eggplant & Zucchini Chips were super addictive; the batter was delicately light, crispy on the inside, yet the eggplant and zucchini still had perfect texture. This is a must-have on the table! The Elia Saganki Bites were also great. I loved the thyme honey on it and would've preferred if they offered it on the side to dip in as much as I wanted. The Fire Grilled Octopus was good too but was almost room temperature on arrival. Had it have been fresher, I think I would've enjoyed it more. Before we ordered, our waiter Evangelos showed us what fish was fresh that day. The Red Snapper stood out to us and we decided to order it grilled on charcoal. It came with lemon potatoes and horta (steamed wild greens) which were both fine but I would've preferred choosing my own 2 sides instead. What we didn't know was that the market price would be ~$95! I've been to my fair share of restaurants where fresh fish is prepared and grilled similarly and it was a fraction of the cost. The fish can be easily split among 3 people so the cost is more reasonable from that perspective. The icing on the cake was that they had their signature burlesque show on Thursdays! We had no idea and were super thrilled to have come on the right night to watch this. All in all, I loved Elia! It's probably one of the best dining experiences I've had in New Jersey. I've been there a few times in recent years, and while the food is great, it is a bit overpriced. The music gets very loud after ~8:00 PM - enough that you have to shout to speak with the people at your table. If you are looking for a relaxing dining experience, keep that in mind. Additionally, our waiter was aggressive and obnoxious. He behaved as if he had a major financial incentive to push the dinner specials, which were nearly double the cost of the regular menu options without the size or premium ingredients to justify the price. While I appreciate when staff provide recommendations, this server openly criticized the dinner order of someone at our table. He tried to convince him to change his mind several times until we both had to push back firmly. The order was kept as is, and was fine. His behavior bordered on rude, and his excuse was, "Well, I'm Greek." I don't feel that condescension needs to be part of an authentic Greek dining experience! I do not plan to return. There are several other Greek restaurants nearby that also offer an authentic menu, and a far more pleasant experience. read more

A lot of these reviews are BAD. I was definitely hesitant coming here, but was invited by someone who had been here many times. After tonight, they also agreed that it's just not what it used to be. My experience didn't contain any of that, but I wouldn't consider this a place I'd come back to. The Ouzo Spritz was a little too heavy on the ouzo. The crab stuffed shrimp was dry. Sad steak. Went on a Thursday nigh 7 pm reservations. Amazing ambience! My waiter was mediocre, didn't fit the vibe of the place. Drinks are fancy and strong. The Mediterranean mule was a bit too sweet it didn't leave any space for dessert. We enjoyed the appetizers, the zucchini chips were delish along with the fresh tzatziki sauce. I ordered a $40 medium well skirt stake, assuming it was accompanied by something I added a side of garlic roasted potatoes. But when I got the plate it was a sad piece of meat. I was so disappointed. The meat was also overcooked with charred edges. Fantastic experience. We happened to find ourselves in the area from the city and needed a last-minute dinner. As lovers of Mediterranean and Greek food we decided on Elia and I'm so glad that we did. Everything that we ate from the dips to both of our mains were absolutely fantastic. My cousin and I shared everything. We had calamari, empanadas and brusselsprouts. I liked the brusselsprouts the most. There were 2 full empanadas but they were cut in half. It was a little pricey and spicey in my opinion. We shared the salmon. The service was pretty good, there were a lot of people working. The valet guys were more friendly than our waiter. Beautiful place- for the décor alone, it's a must-go. It's giving early IG-meets-legit Santorini. We saw lots of large parties there so it's perfect for group brunches, special occasions, family dinners/celebrations- definitely made for celebrations. The menu, though extensive and full of traditional fare, does not offer traditional (rustic) taste. Not a bad thing but just be prepared for a more modern take on Greek food. Wine & cocktail offerings were equally extensive and went perfectly with the food. Our server -- grr, totally forgot his name -- was fantastic. College kid, really smart and hard working. I'm a total PITA w my dietary restrictions and he was like "let me as the chef" and "yeah we can totally do that" or "we can't do that, but you CAN order this..." Anyway, he was great and I really wish I could give him a shout out. The boy busted his (__*__) and was the most well-mannered, respectful guy. It's a great place to hang out too. My friends and I visited Elia Saturday night to celebrate a birthday, and were so excited since this is a personal favorite for many of us. We arrived with a larger party and sat outside. It's decorated beautifully with flowers, chandeliers, and music to enjoy your company. I would recommend making earlier dinner reservations on Saturday. For an 8pm reservation, they were very busy. Perhaps this is what caused a delay in service with our food. Our waiter was accommodating and listened to our concerns. He brought out complimentary drinks for us to end the night. This is typically not the case every other time that I have visited. Nonetheless, the food delivered in taste as usual! It is always consistent and I did appreciate the large selection of specials for the evening. Some highlights for appetizers included the saganaki bites with watermelon, grilled octopus, and crab cakes. I ordered the orecchiette special with pancetta and tomatoes. This is a very nice, classy restaurant. It's white tablecloth with terrific service. I wish I could say the same about the food. Last night after searching for places to eat we chose this location due to its high Yelp rating. For Mediterranean/Greek food it is on the higher priced end. No one minds paying good money for good food but paying good money for mediocre food is disappointing. There's a respectable amount of options to choose from. Seafood is their specialty so our server told us. We both chose the roasted Chilean sea bass because its description sounded very good. The sea bass portion was generous. However, it lacked flavor, it was dry, and it was cold. The entrée is served in a bowl resting on a bed of. wild rice, roasted apple, grapes, spinach, and green beans. I suspect there were about four small pieces of apple, about 4/2 of a grape, very little rice and very little spinach.Tarragon beurre monte was the seasoning. They do offer a nice outside seating area, but keep in mind. It's on a very busy, noisy street, and planes are constantly flying overhead. The bread and olive starter was quite good. It came warm with a reasonable amount of olives. You'll have to ask for olive oil, pepper, or grated cheese if that's your liking. They do not offer this option unless asked for. read more

Good food and a fun night out with live entertainment on certain nights. The interior is vibrant and trendy with a white decor accented with colorful flowers and greenery. It is very loud, I would not suggest this place for a quiet romantic dinner unless you go earlier in the week. The bar area is pretty busy Thurs- Sunday. It is pricey but not more than other restaurants with this quality food and drinks. Every fish I've had has been very good other than a small bone once (sometimes that can ruin my appetite ). Every family has 'that restaurant' - you know, the one where you will get dressed up, make the drive out, and go to for special occasions. Elia has quickly become that restaurant for me and my family. We have now eaten here on a number of occasions and it has taken the spot for 'My Favorite Restaurant' in the luxury category. We have been here for both private parties and for dinner - all times, we've left extremely satisfied, full, and overall happy. Elia's quirky Mediterranean faire boasts traditional and new-wave dishes, and with a seasonal selection that changes quarterly, so you're always guaranteed to get a new experience. Actually, some may say that works against the restaurant, because something you love may be out of rotation by the time you go back. However, I will take the fresh, seasonal selection because I know I will get quality food with Elia. Also, sometimes it's just nice to go outside your comfort zone. The venue itself is gorgeous. Elia opens up their outdoor area in the summer months, and while it is (admittedly) a glorified patio, they really take the time to make it lush and inviting, complete with arm chairs, silken drapes, and cozy furniture. But the decor inside truly shines, however. Although you are dining inside, the lighting and furniture play with your senses to give the illusion that you are dining on an airy mountainside in Greece. Not to mention, the party room has a jaw-dropping fiery pink tree that spans the length of the space and offers the perfect opportunity for all your social media content! The interior designer for this place knocked it out of the park. As for the menu - it is Mediterranean / Greek with some fun twists. Personally, I think the appetizers really shine here because there is a large, varied selection - if the entrees aren't your thing, you can easily make a meal just from apps. My favorites are the eggplant and zucchini chips and crispy Brussel sprouts, but I would happily eat any and all the appetizers. The entrees are a little more limited and quirky. The menu is certainly fish-heavy (a pro or con, depending on your preference) as it offers both whole fish, a raw bar, and even more fish selections under the Main Courses. There is also a separate Butcher Cut menu that offers prime meats (including lamb, my favorite ever). Personally, I feel like offering a Prime Cuts menu is a little wasteful for Elia, as I would go elsewhere for a good steak. When I'm here, I want the creative Greek flair, and I'm sure several others feel the same. Speaking of, I will also admit the entrees feel a bit limited, but I completely understand the quality over quantity bit here. And in its defense, there are several small plates, salads, and a cheese selection. But as a note, it is a little intimidating to see only two non-fish entrees currently being offered (a chicken and a pasta), along with four additional fish dishes. The menu can be considered rather niche for some. As a diner, my mind automatically goes to the main courses to want to eat, but I supposed that's me stifling my own experience. Also, it's worth noting that the entrees are served a-la cart - while it may be described as coming with a side, the accoutrement are really more for plate presentation than anything - and trust me, everything is beautifully presented as if they are competing on Iron Chef. (They do offer some sides for a separate purchase price.) However, any and all food that I've ever had prepared here has been positively spectacular. Since they are a from-scratch kitchen, they do take the appetizer and entree order at the same time. Elia is also nearly gluten-free which is excellent for those with that specific dietary condition. The service is also superb. Each table comes with both a water server and a food server, so you are constantly being waited on. Every staff member has knocked it out of the park (shout to Marcelo who waited on us the last time!) In fact, during my last meal here, my salmon initially came seriously undercooked, and the kitchen took it back and remade the whole plate without question. I will note there are times when this place gets very busy and they place a 90 minute limit on the table, but the food, service, and atmosphere are so good, I honestly don't mind. Let me end with this. Before Elia, the restaurant here was called Park and Orchard. It held the place in our heart for 'that restaurant.' My family was devastated when it closed. It is truly a circular moment that I am back in the space again, with another restaurant that is actually better than the old Park and Orchard. Classy Mediterranean/Greek restaurant in East Rutherford with big space for groups. Was here to celebrate a friend's birthday and was a great place for the occasion. For apps I rec the zucchini and eggplant tower, Greek spreads and pita and the grilled octopus. Kids always like the fried calamari. For main I had the lobster/shrimp roll. It's served cold with a light mayo mix in two rolls. There was more shrimp than lobster but wish it was the other way around. The side was fries was nice and crispy. For the birthday we surprised my friend with the huge dessert platter and giant sparkler candle. It was a festive touch. The platter had ice cream, chocolate cake, apple tartlet, baklava (I think). what a pretty place! came here to celebrate my birthday and had a good time. We came in on a Monday night so it was not crowded at all. However there were 12 of us so there's not a lot of options as to where to sit outdoors since it's mostly ideal for 4 people; and we ended up sitting at the very back where its kinda dark and not really to my liking. We did have very good service though and had a pleasant time with Ehab. The food was so good but sooo pricey. But i get it, it was mostly seafood and seafood pricing in NJ can be so high sometimes (where is seafood not expensive anyway?). I wont describe all of the orders since we had a LOT and it will take so much time to write. But i do want to say their specials are worth checking out and maybe even ordering. But do ask how much it is if you're curious to know how steep it may get. But the portions are generous, and like i said, they do taste amazing - Like that squid ink pasta i ordered with tarragon sauce whoa!! and those fresh scallops. The restaurant was really beautiful looking! I came here with two friends to celebrate a birthday and we enjoyed our meal here! Ambiance is really nice and I can see this restaurant being the go-to spot for special occasions. For starters, we got Fried Zucchini and Eggplant, Greek Crispy Meatballs, and Grilled Octopus. I enjoyed the Fried Zucchini and Eggplant, they were nicely fried and tasty, served with yogurt sauce. The Grilled Octopus was delicious and I thought the avocado puree and lentils were a nice touch! Greek Crispy Meatballs tasted okay. The three of us shared the Cowboy Steak 36 oz. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and the delicious char on the steak was perfection! We got the Aviary Cabernet Sauvignon wine which went perfectly with our meal. Each table came with pita bread and their house olive oil. One small bone I have to pick with Elia was our initial interaction with the hostess. We came on a Monday evening and the restaurant did have a few tables of diners but it was fairly quiet. I am not too sure why we were originally seated at the front of the restaurant where it was a very dark spot, far away from other tables with diners. The hostess pretty much sat us and left right away before we could comment. Luckily, our waiter greeted us and noticed immediately that this is an awkward spot for us to sit and offered to move us to a much more comfortable spot before we said anything. For that, we really appreciate him for immediately making our experience better. read more
