I spent over $4,000 on a brand-new zero-turn mower from TERPSTRA'S. Two months later, the clutch completely failed. I dropped the mower off for warranty service and also requested an oil change and blade sharpening. Nearly three weeks passed with absolutely no communication from the service department. No phone call, no update, no explanation. I had to call them to find out what was wrong with my own mower. When I finally spoke with Ron, the service manager, he was short, dismissive, and unwilling to answer my questions about why a major component would fail after only two months or whether I had any options for an exchange or refund. Then my husband called, and suddenly the mower was ready for pickup. The oil change and blade sharpening I requested were never done. The manager offered excuses instead of accountability, including telling me weekends "don't count" as part of the nearly three weeks they had my mower. I bought a brand-new mower because I have a large property and needed reliable equipment. Instead, I got a major mechanical failure after two months, weeks without my mower during peak mowing season, poor communication, and dismissive customer service. Spending over $4,000 apparently does not guarantee reliable equipment or basic customer service at TERPSTRA'S. I will take my business elsewhere and would not recommend their sales or service department. read more

I own the Lawn Doctor here in Griffith. I have been using Terpstras for our small engine work for more than a decade. Ron has always been great for his honest assesment of our equipment. We have them do all warranty work, much of our equipment uses commercial small engines that come with long warranties. Ron knows we lose money everyday a machine is out of commission, so I love that they are quick to diagnose. More than once they have solved a problem for us same day and get our equipment back out into the field. We also buy Stihl blowers from them, and get great support on those and our other parts orders. We will continue to shop Terpstras. read more

Purchased mew tires had them mounted on wright Stander at Terpstra Shortly after one tire literally fell off. Took unit back to get corrected. Terpsta agreed to warranty repairs. Rim visibly destroyed when tire fell off. Service replaced destroyed rim at their cost but charged me for new hub. After objecting to any charge stating this was warranty for Terpstra improperly mounting tire I was told they knew hub was bad when they mounted it and installed oversized studs. I stated nobody ever said anything about hub being supposed damaged before when I originally had tires mounted. I was told this repair usually works. I was told it was my fault for not hearing the tire coming loose. I was also told by Terpsta how they felt they took care of me by not charging me for the destroyed rim or labor to install new hub. In short they were negligent for improperly mounting tire yet charged me for repairs. read more

I went in right before closing with a Stihl chainsaw that wasn't oiling the chain. The service desk found I had a plugged oiling port near the chain end and removed it with ease. I had looked but didn't know that port was there. They started it up, checked for proper lubrication and I was out the door in twenty (20) minutes, NO CHARGE. THANKS guys! read more

Did more work on snow blower than requested, never called to authorize the work. Never called to tell me it was done. When I say never called I mean I called them a total of 3 times and stopped by in person to ask about it. they completed unauthorized work. Extra work not authorized, oil change, spark plug, carberator, the only work discussed was the o-ring for sediment bulb and the paddles as well as flipping around the scrapper. Conversation with service writer was "if it is much over 100 - 150 probably not worth fixing". I agreed with him. He said you would have to pay the fee for us looking at it and I agreed. Imagine my outrage when the bill was $250. Yes I paid the bill the owner said it wasn't in writing, and they have over 300 snow blowers to work on they can't just stop every time and call the customer. Never again after years of them working on my equipment and me purchasing equipment. Time to find a new supplier and maintenance department. By the way without the unauthorized work the bill would have been. $114 if not authorized I would have paid the fee. read more
