I walked over from another close hotel around 8:45pm Super Bowl Sunday, and this was one of the best dinners and I think this place gets underestimated, but it deserves this review! It's located in the lower level of the Westin Hotel, from the moment I walked in, everyone was so friendly. I was seated right away, my server was Dinesha (sorry spelling) she was AWESOME! I kinda had a day, and was hungry and crabby. She got me a drink, and helped by giving me a couple of recommendations, and she did not steer me wrong! I ordered a couple off menu Mezcal drinks which were fantastic. The best part was the Filet Mignon, served with Lump Crab Mashed Potatoes, and Asparagus! I ordered the Orange Cheesecake Creamsicle for dessert, a different take on it, a little hard to eat but didn't disappoint. read more

This is a place I'll gladly never return to. The service on a Sunday started out ok but quickly turned slow. The cocktails were barley drinkable amongst our party of 7. We ended up opting for beers that we knew would at least taste good. After several returned drinks, we finally ordered food an hour into the ordeal. The overpiced, stuffy menu was mediocre at best. The poached eggs on two dishes were not runny. The food was barely warm. There was nothing memorable about this experience except the bad taste in our mouth. Don't waste your time or money. A dive bar would have been more fun. read more

Had a reservation today at 10:45 AM through OpenTable. Got there on time. Was told by the hostess that breakfast is over and they're closed. I told her I had a reservation that I confirmed via text yesterday. She said she saw our reservation. I'm not sure why they did not call/text to let me me know that they're closed during the reserved time. She did not accommodate and turned us out. It's unfortunate because we just flew in from out of state and this was our first stop. read more

I have been coming here all week. Ordering the same exact item all week removing chicken from my omelette and adding bacon. I am now being told.. they can only remove the chicken and not add the bacon... Okay, but i will pay to add the bacon.. okay we can add it. But wont make it in the omelette. My wife recently planned a birthday dinner for just the two of us and made reservations at Terra. We were greeted with smiles and swiftly seated. Upon arriving at our table there was a birthday card waiting for me at my seat from Sabrina the GM. Our appetizers and meal were great (I recommend Terra's meatloaf...I'm serious) followed by drinks on rooftop bar overlooking the downtown Tempe area. We will be back and will definitely recommend Terra to our friends and out of town visitors. read more

We came from out of state and were really really looking forward to eating here especially after hearing all the hype about it. Unfortunately, things didn't work out for us. We made reservations for 10:45 am and they had confirmed our reservations the day prior. Apparently they were closed for the time being in between switching from breakfast to lunch and the hostess even told us she saw our reservation prior to us getting there. I'm disappointed because when this tends to happen at other restaurants, they are VERY attentive to this mistake that's often made through Opentable etc. and call the customer to let them know ahead of time. She simply said "sorry we're closed now so we can't serve you" didn't once try rescheduling or explaining that they're working on getting this fixed. Left us really really disappointed. On the other hand, we did randomly find another place, "the boozy" and I will say, that place did not disappoint so if this occurs to anyone else, I will say to check that restaurant out! Hope this place is able to update their reservations times and block out times they're closed so it doesn't happen with future customers. read more

Having the right chemistry with your wait staff can make all the difference between a good meal and fun experience. My then girlfriend loved our waiter and all his flamboyance. Those two were like two peas in a pod. The experience with your wait staff can make a difference between an 18% and 30% tip. The food was delicious and we had a great time. read more

Hubby and I wanted something new for Valentines Day and this place was perfect! I started with the Illogical Palette and hubby had a beer. My cocktail was fantastic! Banana and butter pecan was a unique combo for a cocktail but it was refreshing and well balanced. We split two appetizers: the Pan Para el Alma and the raw oysters. The oysters were delicious and the the honey whipped cream cheese with the cornbread was fantastic! Next we had the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and the spicy citrus salmon with cauliflower rice for entrees. Both were divine. The steak was cooked perfectly and the salmon had a good balance of brightness and heat. We finished with a honey rose semifredo which was the best sweet end to the dinner. Service was fantastic and the aesthetic was BEAUTIFUL! Very classy and modern and I love the open feel of the entire restaurant. I'd love to check them out for brunch! This place looks nice enough and the staff is definitely very nice. But no one knows that they're doing. I am a solo diner who ordered a starter and a main. I kind of figured the starter would START my meal and the entree would come after. But, no. It's not the end of the world, but when the expo/manager/runner (?) dropped my plates (which since, they came together, took a while and arrived mostly cold) he made no effort to rectify the situation. I was like, "Oh, I kinda expected the starter to come first" and he was like (nicely) "Oh, sorry." In a normal restaurant where people understand service, there would have been some attempt to make it right. In the restaurant where I work, we would've taken the entree back and made sure a hot one came out at the right time. But, just nothing. I don't know if the server failed to course it out, or what happened, but even if it was a mistake, the next person to pick up on that would be whoever runs the food, and wouldn't it seem strange that a solo diner is getting an app and an entree at the same time? Again, not the end of the world, but the response (or lack thereof) just made it glaringly obvious that no one knows what they're doing here. None of the three servers I had at some point or another ever checked on me to see how I was enjoying the food, or I could've mentioned it was cold. Just a nice woman at the end clearing my plates and dropping my check. It sucks cuz everyone here is so nice. And the food was good. The seafood was cooked perfectly. But for the prices, this place is trying to be a nice restaurant and they're not delivering on service 101. read more

This restaurant is located in the lobby level of a new Westin Hotel. It is very contemporary and open, with tile floors. We had dinner on a Saturday night at 5:30. While we had made reservations, that early it wasn't really necessary. They have valet parking out front, and will validate your parking if you eat there. The food was absolutely delicious! A very unusual menu. They have some vegetarian dishes, and are more than happy to accommodate your diet by altering a dish. Our waiter was really nice and helpful. We ordered the sizzling waygu dish for an appetizer. Wow! it was fantastic. Next we had the fig flatbread, also delicious. Then we shared the buffalo meatloaf. Very tender and rich. It was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. None of the portions were large, but the perfect size. For desert we had the orangesicle cheesecake. When it was served, it was exactly the shape of an orangesicle! The inside was a nice light cheesecake. It was light, but sweet. A nice finish to a great dinner! with one drink, the meal with tip came to $120. The service was great! Our waiter was attentive without being in your face. I would definitely come again. I highly recommend this restaurant. I was impressed with the unusual menu. Everything was so delicious! read more

It's a huge disappointment with Tempe Westin's service and dishes. Unless you have plenty time waiting for your food delivered. I have visited Tempe Westin with my family around twenty times this past year. However, this morning I had a terrible experience. My husband and I ordered two salads and toast for breakfast, but the waiter took almost thirty minutes to bring the food to our table. This was surprising since the restaurant was not even busy at that time. While we were waiting, the same waiter came and asked how we were doing, but ironically, there was yet to be food on our table. (This is unbelievable!) Finally, I was disappointed with the salad's presentation when the dishes were delivered. It looked like the ingredients were just piled on the plate without thought. I had the same salad for dinner the previous day, so I knew what it should look like. The Roman lettuce was not cut to the appropriate size, and some ingredients were missing. I won't visit there for breakfast again if they don't improve the service and food quality. read more

Service was extremely slow, and the food was just ok. My husband got the Chilean Sea Bass, and it was so tiny...less than 2oz fish for $46. He literally ate it in 2 bites. I got the Achiote Pibil Chicken. Flavors were good, but the chicken was very dry and overcooked. My kids got the burgers, which they liked, but nothing extraordinary about them. read more

Stayed at the Westin recently and Terra Tempe is the in-hotel restaurant. There were some highlights but overall not a great experience... "Room Service" The hotel staff say they offer room service through the restaurant. I'm addicted to breakfast in hotel rooms so I was excited to hear this. First morning I called the front desk a little after 7am, who redirected me to the restaurant to "see if they were open". The phone rang and range - nobody ever answered. I tried dialing the restaurant directly and again, lots of ringing with no answer. Super disappointing. Breakfast: So, finished getting ready and headed down to the restaurant for breakfast. I'm also a fan of eggs benedict and was looking forward to their Arizona Benedict on the menu. Sat at the bar, ordered breakfast. It wasn't very busy, maybe 3 other parties in the restaurant. Not sure why they didn't answer the phone but okay... Few minutes after ordering the bartender came over and asked me how I would like the eggs - not a good sign. Poached, I replied. Eventually food came. It was green. Maybe it's a personal preference but I don't expect eggs Benedict to be green It is apparently because of the "chili hollandaise" sauce. The meal was NOT good. I couldn't even finish it. The flavors did not go together at all. One of the eggs was way over cooked and basically solid. The "hash browns" were just little pieces of potato. Extremely disappointing. I don't know what this was but it wasn't eggs Benedict. Dinner The group I was in the hotel with decided to go here for dinner a few nights later. This is where the restaurant shines. I had a margarita on the rocks with salt and the salmon dish. DELICIOUS. The margarita was scrumptious - could've had a dozen of those. The Salmon was also very good - came in a bed of mashed cauliflower and lollipop kale. I finished the plate, so delicious. TLDR; don't go for breakfast, no - they don't offer room service, recommend going for dinner and dinner only read more

We usually go to Scottsdale but decided to try Terra for brunch in Tempe and it did not disappoint. Myself and 4 girlfriends, the brunch tower was a great option for sampling- the torts sand which is exactly in point after a night of drinking. Delano was our server in a packed busy restaurant he did a good job juggling multiple tables. Jeff the manager was amazing at being hospitable and resolving any grievances. After brunch we stopped by the pool party for some drinks the DjS inside and out played great music. Would highly recommend read more

First I have to say I am very disappointed in the evening. This evening was to celebrate my wife's birthday, she picked Terra Tempe based on a suggestion from a friend who is a concierge and got a free visit with the idea that she would recommend the restaurant, go figure. We arrive early and decided to go to the bar up on the 18th floor for a cocktail and the view, I ordered a Martini with 3 olives. They did not have olives so the waitress had to go downstairs and find some, 15 minutes later she came back with olives, what bar does not stock olives? Anyway, we finished our cocktails and left, $40 later for 2 drinks, but it's about the celebration and the view, I get it. We headed down to the restaurant which was basically in the middle of the hotel lobby. That should have been an indication. I used to travel a lot during my corporate work and in almost all cases, the hotel lobby restaurant had sub par food and high prices, this was no different. Son showed up for dinner and the three of us were seated. Menu was limited nothing really outstanding to be honest. We decided on the flat bread as an appetizer. While we were waiting we looked at the wine list and chose a bottle from Chile, priced fair at $38, but of course when we ordered it we were told, you got it, they were out of that one, and we got upsold to a $54 bottle, go figure. When the flatbread came out almost 20 minutes later is was burnt on the bottom and stone cold. Ok move on, it's about the birthday not the food, right? Wife ordered the scallops, son ordered the NY strip and I ordered the chicken as I am working hard to loose a few pounds and have lost 15 lbs the last 5 weeks so I decided to eat healthy. We enjoined the wine, then 30 minutes later out came the food. Of the three choices we ordered, the steak was by far the best but really? I was $52, you could go to one of the many fine steak houses and get a great steak for under $60. Wife said the scallops were good at $42. but there was no side dishes with her meal, only 4 scallops with pork belly on the top. Now for the rub, my meal the chicken. It was 3 times over cooked, crunchy hard and cold. The side dish was succotash, and there was literally 4 tablespoons of it on the plate with 3 tiny fingerling burnt potatoes and one miniature zuchini. But again, it's about the birthday celebration, we all ate our meals without incidence. Then after we were done, the restaurant manager stopped by and asked how our meal was? I said, "do you want some honest feedback?" she said sure. So I told her, about the flatbread being burnt and cold, which by the way reminded me of something you would get out of a box, and the cold overcooked chicken, I did tell her the steak was the best of the three. She asked me if she could bring me another meal and I said no. They did bring us 2 desserts on the house which were the best part of the meal and clearly not made there but from some outside commissary. Anyway, the bill came and they took off the chicken meal which I appreciated, but not the flatbread. I suggest you find another place to go to celebrate a special occasion. It would suffice if you are there on business travel and need to eat, only suggest you skip the appetizer and order the NY strip. read more

2 stars only because the food was delicious. I ordered the Bacon Breakfast Sandwich and it did not disappoint. The bread was phenomenal. The service my girlfriends and I received was NOT good. It was just plain bad. It stared off ok then took a serious turn for the worst. I honestly think the bartender had a bad night or something because he seemed incredibly perturbed. Our sever was not attentive. At all. There weren't any other tables so I'm just not understanding why he wasn't paying attention. Because of his lack of attention I went to the bar to order a drink and the eye rolls given to me were nasty. I of course didn't see them because I walked away, my girlfriends saw it though. At the end we asked for our checks and of course there was an issue, because we wanted them separate. The server seemed confused and asked the bartender for help and I kid you not, the bartender was ANGRY. So much so that I asked him if we did something wrong. Please don't go here if you're expecting to be treated like anything more than a seat filler. I won't be back. If the bread is available to purchase online then you've got a customer. read more

Went for the New Years Eve "experience" and was disappointed. Staff was unprepared and unorganized. Times for seating were 30 min behind schedule. We waited 2 hours with no one checking in on us to even be asked our second course option out of 5 courses. $370 for 2 people was unnecessary. Food was decent. First course salmon was a smoked salmon with a fried soft boiled egg and a dash of caviar. The salmon was comparable to rolled up lox from the grocery store. Other courses couldn't be reviewed properly as we only were able to get them to go since we couldn't wait 2 hours to not even be asked for more courses. Lobster and filet mignon warmed up the next day (worst way to prepare) was excellent. The ambiance is a setting of tables for the "experience" sat next to a sports bar area for hotel guests watching sports while staff also have issues with lighting resulting in full blackouts. In conclusion, if going for a normal meal on the day to day this is not a good representation to base a review off of. If going for their "experiences" look elsewhere. Nubu and other restaurants have much more experienced staff and quality of food for similar prices. read more
