Pappardelle** with side steak and a glass of Italian Pinot Grigio.
    Kim P.

Staying at the hotel, I was ready for hotel-bar-food. I was pleasantly surprised. Not a lot to choose from which is typical. I decided on a pappardelli with a side skirt steak. The papardelli was delish. A medley of peas, asparagus, tomatoes, basil, grated parmesan, and a pea compote. The lesser cut streak was perfectly cooks, nicely seasoned, and tender. The atmosphere is a little loud, especially given that they're was only about 20 people in the restaurant. It would be exceptionally loud if it was busy. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend it, but on a slow night.

came to Terra for lunch and had the worst steak and honestly service I've ever had. The LONG ISLAND STEAK AU POIVRE was made to be medium rare, but the texture was horrendous. It tasted as if it was pre-chewed, spit out, reformed into a "steak" and then pan seared with no seasonings what so ever. The spinach was also just so flavorless, overcooked and underwhelming. I sat there for almost 45 min, barely eating the fries. No one checked on me. I was the only guest in the restaurant mind you, and there was a lot of side line talking amongst eachother thoug. when the waitress finally came over, she asked if I wanted a box and I said no, the steak was not good. The whole meal was still on my plate. I did offer to pay atleast for the fries because I ate about a quarter of them, The check i received made no sense whatsoever. How is it I'm paying more for trash food and service than I would have if I hadn't said anything at all. No manager ever spoke to me about the food, didn't offer any other options, no apologies nothing. I was also a guest at the hotel that never had in room service, I came down to the restaurant, was sat, and paid for the bad experience there. So what is that Open service fee for??

For an 'upscale' restaurant, this restaurant was overwhelmingly underwhelming. I was staying at the Westin Tempe for Innings Fest and during my stay, I had received some food vouchers worth $28/day that could be redeemed here so of course I made sure to use them, right? I dined in here once for breakfast and ordered the 'two eggs your way' and it was as expected. You can't really mess up sunny side up eggs and some pork sausages, can you? Eggs were done right, pork sausages tasted just like expected. During this time, my fried had ordered the Strawberry Tres Leches French Toast. It looked really good (look at the picture for dine in) but I didn't get to taste it. It looked like two servers worked the morning shift along with a hostess. Our server was underwhelming. If this had been a Denny's or an Ihop, maybe I'd be more okay? But then again, I'd received better service at some Denny's and Ihop, heck even Waffle House that I'd visited in the past. On the second day, only my friend came down to dine in. He told me he had to wait a bit because the hostess was nowhere to be found to seat him. I didn't get any more details than that, but there's that. On the last day, only my friend came down to dine in again. However, I had asked him to get me an order of Strawberry Tres Leches French Toast. And when he came back to the room with that order and I was ready to chow down... I opened the box and was sorely disappointed. Look at the picture I posted. It was literally French Toast with some whipped cream. That was it. Nothing like what it was when we had dined in on the first day. Come on Terra. If you wanna be considered an upscale restaurant, then provide upscale service and upscale food.

Location: downtown Tempe near ASU north campus. Terra Tempe Kitchen & Spirits is a restaurant inside Westin Tempe. Atmosphere: decent size restaurant with modern decors and an open concept where you can watch the staffs prepare food. There are regular and bar sitting. Service: Waiter is recommended to write things down and be more attentive. Our waiter brought out the check with everything charged, and we haven't even received our dessert yet. He definitely forgot to punch in our dessert. He also just let us box our dessert to-go, so minus 1 star for not being attentive. Food: I got the grilled octopus, Atlantic salmon, and orange creamsicle cheesecake. Overall, this place has great food. Very experimental in my opinion. Large portion, so it is definitely worth the price. Grilled octopus: 9/10 the dish very experimental. Smokey bbq taste with touch of sweets and chewiness from the octopus. The combination was strangely flavorful. This appetizer is a big portion. Atlantic salmon: 7/10 I thought this dish was delicious. However, it is too busy. The dish contain a giant salmon, gnocchi, tomatoes, chorizo meats, and this sweet green sauce. I love the gnocchi and the fish, and I find the sour tomatoes, the sweet sauce, and the salty chorizo were super distracting. They take aways the prize item of the dish, which is the salmon. Overall, it's still a good dish. Love the gnocchi. This dish is also big portion. Orange creamsicle cheesecake: 9/10 I love that they make the cheesecake into a shape of an ice cream. The bits of sweet crackers were deliciously addictive. Overall: good restaurant! I'd definitely come back for the food!

    Ricotta Gnocchi with salmon

A little surprised at the sub-4 star rating on Yelp! My colleagues and I had an amazing experience at Terra with excellent food and service. Only note is that it is a little pricey for the portions, but I am pleased with the quality of ingredients. The Grilled Spanish Octopus (4/5) was very tasty and tender! We also enjoyed the From the Tree Flatbread (4/5) as a light bite. The house ricotta was creamy and decadent. Star of the show was the Ricotta Gnocchi (5/5); features again their excellent housemade ricotta, and made for a light yet fulfilling pasta dish. I added a grilled salmon on the side which made the portion heartier. Otherwise, it definitely would have been a little small. The desserts here were amazing. I loved the Strawberry Horchata Panna Cotta (5/5), and the Orange Creamsicle Cheesecake was so creative---shaped exactly like the childhood ice cream! To tie it together, we had wonderful waitstaff who were so helpful in seating and accomodating our large party, and providing recommendations. Thanks for making the experience great!

The restaurant located in the lobby of the Westin Hotel in downtown Tempe has a very modern dining experience and atmosphere. Parking was good they have valet service and close street parking. I stayed the weekend there and had dinner and breakfast. Dinner experience was ok...I had a great drink ( pineapple martini ) ...was very tasty. The service was great. Server was very friendly and helped navigate the menu. Appetizers were better than the meal! Shrimp appetizer and cheese biscuits were very good. I got the Shortrib which was not good. The meat was very tough to chew. Server apologized and took it away, even though she did try to leave it on my final bill and I told her I would not be paying for it because it was unacceptable and uneatable. Plus I didn't eat any of the food that came with it. I felt like she thought I was going to overlook the fact it was still on my bill and she should've removed it without me saying anything. She did offer a desert since I had a bad experience but they didn't have anything that looked good to me. Breakfast the next morning was better. Server was nice. We got the breakfast tower which is a three choice option per couple that is served and displayed in a caged tower. Very nice looking. Everything at breakfast was good and on point except the bacon which was over cooked. Coffee was ok nothing special. Overall the experience was ok but nothing to really write home about. Food 3/5 Atmosphere 4/5 Parking 5/5 Location 5/5 Service 3/5 Return Factor 3/5

    Whipped & Pickled

Really impressed by the quality of food, service, and overall ambiance of this restaurant after stumbling upon it in the area. We started off with a complimentary short rib taster from the chef that was plated elegantly and delicious--a wonderful surprise! We ordered the Whipped & Pickled and Potato Frito Misto appetizers and both were fantastic. I was impressed with the generous portion of goat cheese and toppings and it all paired well with the freshly grilled bread. The Potato Frito Misto was equally delicious--they had a nice array of crispy fried calamari and croquettes and these wonderful small peppers (not spicy) on the side that provided a nice contrast. By the time I had the Bison Meatloaf for my entree, I was getting full, but managed some room for that. Be prepared for a large serving of meatloaf with some delicious mashed potatoes and asparagus on the side. The space is beautiful and sits in the lobby of the Westin, but doesn't feel overly fancy. We received great service and the value of the meal was phenomenal (emphasis on large portions!). Enjoyed a great dinner here, and would definitely recommend it!

Everything is good here ranging from red meats to seafood. Even basic salads are very fresh. Staff is attentive and helpful. Zia was great. Didn't try a drink but they all looked creatively fun going by! Great open kitchen concept.

    Vegetable Wellington

Knowing I had a staycation at the Westin Mill Ave coming up, I was scouring menus at close by restaurants for something special for our anniversary, and was lucky enough to find Terra Tempe! I made a reservation indicating it was our anniversary, and my vegetarian guy was looking forward to have their "Vegetable Wellington". From the moment we stepped in, the ambience, vibe and chill music are noteworthy, and we were treated with the most wonderful service from everybody from start to finish. Specifically our server LISA made our visit very special and was kind, considerate, professional, and deserves all the praise being given. Since they had changed the menu (to a Fall inspired one) by the time our reservation took place, they had made a note of our request for the Veggie Wellington and discussed it with the chefs, and PREPARED IT IN ADVANCE for him (in case he wanted that over the new vegetarian options). WOW, that's truly exceptional service! Not to mention it was one of the best vegetarian meals he's ever had in his 15 years of this veggie lifestyle. I had the Filet which was also incredible, and swapped out the carrots for brussels sprouts. We had some nice appetizers and they even bought us a dessert of choice to help celebrate - which has Creamsicle cheesecake platter, very unique. See pics of all mentioned, including updated menu. I would give this place more than five stars if I could, would definitely come back and will be referring! Update - went for Sunday brunch the next morning and it was also fantastic, with wonderful service from the very pleasant Samantha. Carnitas Eggs Benedict and pumpkin pancakes, Yum Yum!

    Huevos Rancheros $14

I ate here for breakfast a couple times during my stay at the Westin. Service is super slow. On the first day, I waited 35 minutes for a couple eggs - literally could have hopped over to the kitchen area and made them myself. It wasn't even that busy. On the second day, things picked up a little bit. To be fair, everything was very well-prepared, and I was honestly a little shocked at how good everything tasted, particularly the huevos rancheros. Apart from being slow, the service was okay. On the first day, the server stole and forgot about my breakfast voucher and it ended up getting charged to my room, so my company was probably out a few extra bucks. On the second day, they got it right.

While staying at the Westin, I ate breakfast and dinner on multiple occasions here. Service was always really good! If you're a hotel guest, definitely try the prickly pear margarita and/or mocktail since they're included in the destination fee. I wasn't sure about it at first but it definitely grew on me as the week progressed. We had the Two Eggs Your Way almost every morning and it was cooked differently each time. The ham was really good one morning and not so much the next. The potatoes were overcooked some morning and perfect on others. I tried the Huevos Rancheros one morning and it wasn't good at all. I was craving a waffle one morning and it tasted very basic...definitely not worth $15. For dinner, the Carne Asada Flatbread was almost perfection! I could have eaten it every day. We also tried the Short Rib and Fall Ravioli. The polenta fries that came with the short rib seemed way overcooked. The butternut squash with the ravioli was hard to chew and needed to be cooked more. I actually think that the theme of Terra Tempe is either overcooked or undercooked. This was a convenient option since we were hotel guests but I can't imagine making a special trip to eat here.

I love this place the food is awesome the menu items offer a great fusion of ingredients all the flavors married together. The restaurant was cozy and very modern The crab mashed potatoes were really good. The server was attentive and made sure we were taking care of.. I was disappointed I had some burnt food on my plate. I would return and give them another chance.

Also one of my drinks I had to send back. My apple martini tasted like soap. It was like they did clean the glass after giving a soap bath. No bueno. So they need to get their service to match the vibe of a true cocktails lounge. Yes it is a 70s vibe but doesn't mean the lackadaisical style service. I would come back and try again. The music, the atmosphere and the food was good. They gotta get these cocktails together and service. We ended up walking to nearby competitors and that was money lost for DDG.

It's so pillowy soft and the flaky sea salt perfectly compliments it. I ordered the Wise Decision cocktail, which was refreshing. For my entree, I had the shishito Caesar salad and was advised I could add a protein from their skewer selection of chicken, pork belly or oyster mushrooms. I asked the waitress about the chicken and she advised that they are smoked and will appear pink from that, so not to be alarmed, but are moist and really flavorful. While the filet was tempting (and what everyone else at my table ordered), I wanted something lighter. Thankfully I was not disappointed in my selection. The chicken was as delicious as described and could be cut with a fork. The Caesar salad was well dressed, but not soggy. Do I think it was worth the money to add the chicken? If you're looking for free parking, you're going to have a long walk. Outside of that, you'll have to pay for parking in a garage or metered street parking. Ambiance (4/5): Hint hint. Idle Hands is located inside Devil's Hideaway. A true speakeasy shouldn't have signage outside indicating its location. Unfortunately, there's a sign for Idle Hands outside of Devil's Hideaway which takes away the sense of mystery and intrigue that a true speakeasy provides. Outside of this hiccup, it's a cool speakeasy. It's intimate, with 10 or so seats at the bar and about 10 seats in booths facing the bar. There's a projector screen behind the bar that had mystical motion graphics the first time I stopped by (thinking wizards) and Halloween motion graphics the second time (with it being a day before the holiday). There were some other Halloween decorations up. The only area of improvement? The music often doesn't match the vibe. A lot of the music they were playing on my last visit was Irish music that would be fitting for a pub. Service (4/5): I had the same bartender each time. He knows how to make a good drink and is pretty efficient. When you close out, he only gives you the merchant copy. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Let me get that customer copy too. But overall, a good experience. Especially at a college bar. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks both times. Idle Hands actually doesn't have food, but Devil's Hideaway does. And you're allowed to bring food from there into the speakeasy. Drinks (4.5/5): It's pretty surprising to see a speakeasy on a college campus. I was impressed with the creativity of the menu, both in terms of the ingredients used and the fusion of flavors. I've had a different cocktail each time, and they've all been great. My favorite was one served in a box filled with smoke. Talk about a cool presentation! The hallmarks of a solid speakeasy are elevated cocktails, nice ambiance (dimly lit), an intimate space, and mystery/intrigue. While the intrigue is lacking at Idle Hands, and the music can be improved, they hit it out of the park in the other areas. One of my favorite speakeasies I've been to in Phoenix (and surrounding areas). I am, after all, the self-appointed king of speakeasies. The king gives his stamp of approval.

Everyone was friendly, professional, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling overbearing. The service honestly matched the upscale atmosphere perfectly and made the whole experience feel even more polished. And OMG... the food. SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. Like genuinely one of those meals where every single bite makes you pause for a second because it tastes that incredible. I got the chicken orzo along with the lime icebox cake for dessert, and both were absolutely amazingggg. The chicken orzo was phenomenal. The lemon flavor throughout the orzo was bright, fresh, and flavorful without being overpowering, and the tomatoes were the PERFECT addition because they balanced everything so well and added a little sweetness and freshness to the dish. But the chicken... wow. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while still being super juicy and tender inside, which is honestly hard to do. Every component of the dish worked together perfectly. Magnificent is genuinely the best word for it. And the lime icebox cake was the perfect ending to the meal, refreshing, creamy, flavorful, and not too heavy after dinner. The restaurant itself is very cute and clearly designed for photos, which matches what I saw on their Instagram. Service overall was fantastic. The food, however, was just okay. I received five very small slices of apple, and when the plate was set down the waitress said she'd get more if needed. I later noticed I was charged $2 for an additional five slices, which together didn't even amount to half an apple. Ironically, the bread that comes with the dish would have been far more substantial. The burrata was fine, but nothing memorable. My friend ordered the chicken and brussels sprouts and didn't even finish it before having the plate taken away. The flourless almond cake was the star, a bit salty on its own, but with the ice cream and whipped cream it was a delightful combo which were the highlight. Overall, this is a great spot for cocktails, ambiance, and photos, but the food is fairly mediocre compared to the setting.

Mine was wrong so it had to be sent back and the chicken had to be added to my salad-which took like 20 minutes. Our entire experience create us to be an hour late to the concert next-door. We were very comfortably dressed, and no one looked sideways at us, but there were definitely people dressed to the nines! There was a party of women next to us, that were celebrating a birthday. We obliged them by taking their pictures all over the instagramable bar. Ryan was our waiter, and he is tops. Made some really good recommendations and was welcoming and attentive. I was just there for the drinks and enjoyed a lovely glass (or two) of wine, but my friends were feeling more adventurous and ordered some of their inventive cocktails. Including a couple of "Shot in the Dark" which could be ANYTHING. Also a burger was ordered and then brought up repeatedly for the next two days. According to him, it was possibly the best burger he had ever had. His face lit up at first bite. The menu is a mishmash of interesting options and the whole experience was not what we anticipated. In the best way.
