Loved the ambience here. It's grand but non-fussy. If you're with a group of people who are difficult to please and it's a challenge to find a place that suits all of you, then I'd recommend this place. It has the ambience, the lack of fussiness, great service and food to please everyone. The food is alright, but if you're enjoying your company it won't bother you that much. Ambience will make up for it. The highlight for me was that I was also able to bring my fussy lap dog here. They allowed him inside without any question. He was leashed but had enough space to roam without bothering anyone. I loved how chill this place was. I will always appreciate it for taking me and my dog in. read more

Terrazza is inside the super bougie hotel right on the ocean called Casa Del Mar. The decor inside the restaurant is giving California beachy vibes with tons of plants and wicker everywhere. Each spot you looked there was something very cool and different. The views are also spectacular -- come here during sunset for some wonderful pictures. I came here with a work group and they went all out! It's so nice to go to a bougie restaurant like this and not have to worry about the cost. We got a round of apps and then my main was the halibut - it was melt in your mouth delicious. I mainly only eat fish when I know it is going to be good and this did not disappoint. The service was a little off, which is why I am giving it 4 stars. They were on and off attentive seemingly always at the wrong time. For such an upscale restaurant the service should be on point. Also it is a bit too open to the hotel lobby which makes it not feel so upscale -- if i am paying for upscale I want it all the way, not just half way. read more

We visited on a Sunday afternoon expecting fine dining. Instead, we got mediocre service at upscale prices--a disappointing mismatch. The staff seemed checked out and frustrated, which usually points to management issues. Basic service standards weren't met: our preferences weren't noted, servers lacked patience, and they skipped fundamentals like serving from the right side. For a restaurant positioning itself this way, these oversights stand out. What really bothered us was the general manager's attitude. We'd called ahead to confirm we could bring our Chihuahua, and he actually scolded us about it anyway. That kind of hostility doesn't belong in fine dining--or anywhere, really. We stopped by for a couple drinks before heading over for lunch at another place. Terrazza is part of a beautiful hotel called Casa Del Mar. The ambiance is very tropical with lots of plants, large windows giving way to tons of natural light, and pretty, colorful lamps. Our entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. The drinks we ordered were not only pretty but solid, they did not skimp on the alcohol! We were seated at one of the window tables with such a nice view of Venice Beach - perfect for people watching. The entire staff, right from the hostess, to the servers and the bartender were all so humble and friendly. I would recommend stopping by even for a drink or two. We've been coming here for Thanksgiving dinner two years in a row. Last year was amazing, which is why we decided to return. The hotel itself is gorgeous with a beautiful ambience, which makes the experience feel special from the moment you walk in. Unfortunately, this year was a completely different experience. The restaurant was much busier, and there was essentially no service. It turned into a night full of waiting: 30 minutes for bread, 30 minutes for appetizers, about 40 minutes for the main course, and another 40 minutes just to get the check. The food itself was mostly delicious and the portions are generous, but the gravy was extremely salty this year. Overall, the long waits and lack of service overshadowed everything. Terrazza is an upscale, classy Spanish/Italian restaurant located in the Hotel Casa Del Mar offering great food and phenomenal service at an elevated price tag. Our family came on a Saturday evening. We started with the bread platter, which was exceptional, offering soft, salted butter, a molasses-garlic butter, and a light, exceptionally flaky and soft bread ($14) which was the strongest entry of the evening. We shared next the Whole Lubina for two ($95), a decent Spanish Branzino split into two generous filets, which was light, flaky, appropriately deboned, and with a hint of lemon. We got a side of asparagus which was good, and perfectly roasted. Our children got the kids' bolognese pasta, which was mediocre, chicken fingers which were definitely not home-made and fries, which were excellent. We finished with the Basque cheesecake ($15) which was rich and creamy, but not too heavy, and paired with crisp apples which were a perfect pairing. Our waiter, Guillermo, was effusive, enthusiastic, attentive, and endlessly charming. He made great suggestions and took great care of us throughout the evening. The prices, while somewhat expected for such an upscale establishment, were on the upper end for the meal provided. Terrazza effuses old money, but somehow avoids being stuffy in the process, thanks to the great, welcoming staff. The ambiance inside, as with the entire Casa Del Mar, is upscale and airy, capturing the vibe of a early 1900s European seaside conservatory, rich with plants, green, and phenomenal views. We dined here for the Easter 2025 prix fixe brunch and it was delicious! Here's what you need to know... Location. Amazing location inside the Casa del Mar hotel in Santa Monica, a couple of blocks south of the pier. Parking. We parked at a five-hour meter in front of the hotel (we paid $6.75 for three hours). They also have valet. Not sure if the restaurant validates or not. View. Great views of the beach and bike path from pretty much every table inside the restaurant. Food. The quality of the food was excellent. Like I mentioned, it was a prix fixe menu with a choice of appetizer or salad and an entree along with unlimited trips to the dessert bar for $125 per person (I posted a photo of the menu so you can see the options if you're interested). The meal comes with bread service but no drinks. Cocktails (including mimosas) rund approximatel $20 per glass and coffee was $6 per cup unlimited refills). I had the yellowtail crudo with yuzu oil on cantaloupe puree and it was delicious. My mom enjoyed her watermelon feta salad as well. We both had the grilled branzino which was one of the best branzino dishes I've ever had. There was no side with it, but quite frankly, it was so filling, it wasn't necessary-- however, it would have add a little variety to the meal to have had at least something different with it (my only complaint). Service. Excellent service, although we were seated at a table that had no flatware so our server had to bring us some (at this level of a restaurant, those details probably shouldn't be overlooked). My partner and I came here for Valentine's Day. The ambiance, food, and drinks were great, but unfortunately the service was not. We can laugh about it because it will make a great story, but that's the only reason it didn't spoil our evening. When we first sat down, we waited quite a while before being greeted. The waitress eventually came over and asked what type of water we wanted. My partner began asking a question about the sparkling water, and she cut him off mid-sentence, said, "Sparkling," and walked away. We laughed it off at first, assuming she was having a stressful evening with the Valentine's Day rush and may have misheard him. Weird, but not a big deal. When she returned, I tried to be warm and understanding, given how stressed she seemed. I mentioned that it was our first time at the restaurant and asked if she could walk us through the menu. I expected a brief overview of the courses, perhaps some recommendations. Instead, she abruptly pointed to the menu and said, "There are three courses. You pick one item from each," and immediately walked away. My partner and I just looked at each other in shock. After that, we chose our items quickly because we wanted to focus on enjoying ourselves and minimize our time interacting with her. Throughout the evening, the service remained very slow, and she rarely checked on us. When she did, her tone continued to feel curt and dismissive. At one point, my partner tried to get her opinion on one of the drinks, and she seemed annoyed with the question, saying it was up to him, depending on what he likes. I get that it isn't fun to work on a busy holiday, and we all have bad days in general, but that's no reason to take it out on your customers. Yesterday was Valentine's Day. The service was horrible. The server was extremely rude as she did not smile and introduce/explain anything for the menu or food. When we just finished the dessert, she put the check on the table without a single word, and she did not provide us the flower and champagne which every table was supposed to get (she provide that to the table next to us). Manager David was great, he was very polite and apologized for the server. But our night is still ruined. This was my first time but also last time. I haven't been here in over ten years, partially because I came here with someone whom I no longer keep in touch with (in addition for the fact I don't care for Santa Monica) but I also really had no reason to be over this way. However, the other day I ended up having an appointment on Main St. so I decided to wander over to see what has changed. Walking in the lobby, I read from other reviews it was renovated, but it looked the same to me: older, rather stately and far from the modern, cold aesthetic I prefer/am used to. However, Casa del Mar isn't going for that, and if I wanted something a little more contemporary, I'd head to Shutters next door. Ended up seated at the bar (which was completely empty) and although it took me more than a few minutes to catch the attention of someone working there, the nice older guy directed me to the hostess to get a menu. Once it was obvious I was there to stay, another guy came over and he was fine as well. Since I wasn't starving, I went with $14 fries and stayed with water. A small bowl of chips was brought out which I appreciated, but I only ate about two since I 'gave up' chips a couple months ago. These Casa Fries with 'Herbs de Provence' were exceptional; even if they were just basic 'bar' fries, I'm going to eat them but these were unexpectedly delicious, probably since this is Casa del Mar after all. The lemon aioli was also fantastic, and I barely touched the ketchup but I'm glad it was there. Even though I ate more than half, I packed the rest to go (in addition to some of that aioli) since I'm not wasting $14. As I was leaving, the valet/doormen were even pleasant. This was a good experience in Santa Monica! From the front desk, doormen, and bar staff, service was top-notch, and I begrudgingly admit Casa del Mar wasn't so bad after all. read more

I made a dinner reservation for a group of 12. Since large party reservations couldn't be made through Resy, I had to contact the restaurant via email or phone. I emailed first but didn't receive a response, so I followed up with a phone call. Later, there was a change in the number of guests, and I tried to update the reservation, but it took a long time to hear back, which was frustrating. The meal and service on the day were both excellent, but the reservation system for large groups definitely needs improvement. read more

What a dissapointment to return a few days later with guests to see that all lights tree and beautiful decorations were taken down on day after the 26 th. Love this place - the restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Casa Del Mar hotel so it has wonderful beach front views, high vaulted ceilings and great entry lobby. We were here for my niece's birthday brunch. We sat in the middle table for our group and the servers were very attentive. The menu for brunch has a lot of choices I see a lot of other customers ordering the wagyu burger - that's what my niece ordered (pictured below) I opted for eggs Benedict (dungeness crab) and regular coffee which is refillable. They give you the thermos for you to refill your cup. The wagyu has a very thick patty - my niece can only eat half and had the rest to go. She said it was flavorful. My eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly and there's enough crab to make it worth the up charge. Would highly recommend this to those who want beach front views and great ambiance. We went Saturday (Labor Day weekend) and there's a wedding party taking photos by the hotel. Such a lovely place and you can walk to the pier from here. I used valet service for $14 good up to 3 hours so that gave us enough time to eat and walk to the pier. read more

Weekday "brunch" as Westside resident, not sure why people are complaining over the price, or anything for that matter. It was amazing! The food was beautifully prepared and presented, the service was 5 stars. The attitude of all the staff was positive and efficient from the front door team, through the front desk to the restaurant. We arrived awkwardly right before 11 when it changes to the lunch menu and they accommodated our request for breakfast on the totally reasonable condition we ordered quickly. You cannot beat the view of the beach combined with the casual comfort yet elegant restaurant. And the prices are what you would pay pretty much anywhere else, even a diner in LA these days, maybe just a tad more but it makes this a great deal. It's not Central Florida or the Midwest. We ordered lattes and cappuccinos, vegan avocado toast (no egg and yam instead of bread) and my friend had the fluffiest egg whites I have ever seen. Had not been in a while, felt the carpet in on the stairs and entry was faded and a bit run down, but hey it's a 100 years old and I am sure they will maintain it at some point. What used to be Catch - arguably one of my favorite restaurants in LA - is now Terrazza; although the menu is very similar. They still have raw bar but no longer have sushi items. The vibe is more casual with the terrace and lounge style seating, with cascading overhanging plants throughout and green and blue hues in the stones decorating the space. I had dinner here one weekday evening, and we were able to get seated without a reservation. We started off with the Farmer's Lettuce Salad and the crab cake, which were delicious. The salad had a very light vinaigrette dressing, plump beets, and a a few slivers of tangy midnight moon cheese - a very nice combination. For the main course we had, acorn squash, pink snapper, and the dorade - again all delicious and cooked well. We topped the night off with some tea as we watched the ocean waves lit up by the Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel lights glimmer in the distance. read more

Last night we were there to celebrate Valentine's Day. Once again we were not disappointed. It's the best prefixed menu we've ever had. We had Kampachi Crudo and Burrata with Caviar for our starter. The main course was Chilean Sea Bass and American Wagyu NY Strip. For dessert we had Banana Cream and Salted Chocolate Mouse. My friend recommended this place for brunch. We came in the day after Tropical Storm Hilary and the restaurant was almost empty from the warnings that schools closed and people stayed home. I'm sure on a normal day it is really crowded. We were seated next to the window where I could see the Santa Monica pier and the Ferris wheel. I ordered the White Egg Omlette (Tuscan Kale, mushrooms and tomatoes), and instead of egg whites I wanted regular eggs with yolks. The omlette was cooked perfectly and the kale, mushrooms and tomatoes were tasty. It came with potatoes, half a grilled tomato and bread (I chose English Muffin).
