Ambience gets an A+ and so do the cocktails. I love that most people dress up to come here, which only adds to the fun. The food, however, it's just ok. Came here on a rainy day and it has an old school Hollywood vibe. This restaurant is on the lower level or basement of the Georgian hotel. Service was quick but it is a pretty pricey place. It was emptier than I expected the place to be but the food was fine. I got the smash burger and the Caesar salad. The smash burger was delicious and so were the fries so that in itself was filling. Our first time at Georgian was on a regular night with the regular menu. I had rated it 5 stars then. The ambiance, the vibe and grand old Hollywood elegance. Tonight, we dined again, this time, during their special Spaghetti Sunday. Another 5 stars! I Their prefix menu is catered to families and couples who enjoy a full course hearty menu comprised of comfort foods. We saw many big tables celebrating birthdays. We had: First Course: yummy garlic bread, delicious Ceasar's Salad 2nd Course: huge portion of spaghetti, 3rd Course: a choice of Branzino, meatballs, eggplant dish, chicken parm and NY steak (+$30). My husband and I each chose the NY steak and Chicken Parm. Both great! Chicken parm was moist and tender, and NY steak had a scrumptious well-seasoned crunchy sear on each slice. 4th Course: refreshing lychee gelato and Rocher Hazelnut Sundae. Enjoyed that, too! We also enjoyed great live music, delicious cocktails and the elegant ambiance of the Georgian Room. No cellphones out preferred in this speakeasy restaurant, but we took a sneak pic of the menu to share. What a bargain for $65! read more

Went to the Georgian for the Sunday night Spaghetti Dinner. It's a prix fixe menu with only three entree choices (on the night we were there---choose one). The rest of the menu is set. This was our first time there and there were lots of negatives so I can only give it two stars. First off, it's way too dark (meaning lack of light) in the space. Can't see anything. Everyone had to use their cell phone lights to read the menu and anything else that came round. I understand atmospheric lighting, but this was over the line. Pushing the dimmer switch up even a little would help a lot. Second it was a couple degrees too warm. Pushing the thermostat down even a little would help a lot. We sat down to menus on the bread plates in front of us, but there were two different menus. One had only three entree choices (meatballs, chicken parm, and eggplant parm) but the other menu had four (add branzino). (Their website actually has five entree choices included - add strip steak) When we inquired of a staff member why the two different menus, she looked very quizzical and said one must be an older menu, that there were only the three entree choices on the night we were there. Two of our party ordered the meatballs and I had the eggplant parmesan. The meatball eaters said theirs was good, I thought the eggplant parm was only so-so, a little too soft and mushy. The spaghetti accompaniment was fine al dente and the red sauce was okay. The garlic bread and caesar salad were excellent. During dinner, there was a piano player who I felt sorry for, because whenever he played and/or sang, the music was too loud and you couldn't carry on a normal-volume conversation with your tablemates. When we mentioned this to our server, he said it was worse on the nights when a band played, said the servers had to shout to be heard by their customers. If it were me, I would cut the music entirely on Spaghetti Night. Not necessary. Like the dim lighting, there are too many reaches for atmosphere here. The space is too small and not soundproofed well enough to support both music and conversation. Not very attentive wait service; we had an excruciatingly long wait between our main meal and the dessert, like almost 45 minutes! We tried to flag down our server multiple times but to no avail. Don't know why we were put on the back burner, the place wasn't full. Scariest of all, when we finally got our desserts (fudge brownie with gelato), which are served in what can only be described as cheap old-fashioned glasses, one of the glasses broke as a member of our party was digging in for the fudge brownie on the bottom. She wasn't cut or anything, but the glass broke into four pieces and it was very frightening. We had to get the waiter to remove the broken glass pieces from the table immediately. If you're going to serve a frozen dessert in an old-fashioned glass (not a good idea to begin with--more atmosphere?), make sure it's tempered glass that will not break so easily. Finally, this Sunday Spaghetti Night is expensive. Sixty-five dollars per person for the prix-fixe meal, while everything else is an "add-on" that costs extra. (For us it was $16 for a Baileys on the Rocks, $7 for a Sprite, and $5 for a second basket of garlic bread.) Fine price for an excellent dinner out, but too many negatives here to justify. read more

Great place to bring a large family, but perfect also for a romantic date. The restaurant is in The Georgian Hotel and the main entrance is located on the right side. The maitre d was very friendly and welcoming. Hanna, Brittany and Pia exemplified hospitality through proactive table engagement. Hanna's early table check-in after the first few bites was nice and appreciated. I overheard the table beside us saying that he has extensive travel experience declared the chicken Parmesan "was the best he's ever had," a noteworthy endorsement. I agree. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the Parmesan sauce was delicious. Garlic bread was very good. NY steak was cooked to perfection. The lychee sorbet desert was refreshing. read more

We stayed at The Georgian and made a last minute reservation at The Georgian Room. The restaurant itself was upscale and beautiful upon arrival, but the seating was pretty close to other tables. It was easy to hear the conversations of everyone around you. The food itself was great, and the prices were as expected. Cocktails were well prepared as well, however this is where they lost me with the price. $29 for a spicy margarita was pretty wild as someone who lives in California and is used to higher cocktail prices. I would recommend coming later in the night so you get to enjoy the piano playing throughout dinner. Also, sorry, no pictures as you're asked to keep your phone in your purse throughout your experience. This was a great reason to disconnect! read more

Our server was excellent, the drinks were great and the food was pretty good. The portions were small for the price but each dish was delicious. The bill came and we were pretty shocked, it was twice the price it should've been. The drinks were incredibly expensive, probably the most expensive I've seen in LA and drove up the bill astronomically. This most recent visit was disappointing from top to bottom. The biggest shock was the decline in quality and consistency. The drinks, which used to be a standout, were flat and sloppy -- like someone was experimenting behind the bar without understanding what made the original cocktail program so good. Balance was off, flavors didn't make sense, and nothing tasted dialed in. It honestly felt like a brand new bartender was freestyling instead of executing a well-run program. Food quality was also a letdown. I'm not exaggerating when I say it felt like a completely different kitchen than what they started with. The food didn't taste fresh or intentional, and it definitely didn't match the price point or the reputation this place built early on. For a venue this small, you expect details to be tighter -- not worse. The other major issue was the lack of management presence. In a small room like this, you should feel leadership everywhere: checking on tables, pacing the room, making sure the experience stays elevated. Instead, service felt unattended and inconsistent. Nobody seemed to be driving the shift, and it showed. When there's no oversight, everything starts to feel messy and the guest ends up paying for it. Overall, it just didn't feel worth it anymore -- not with the prices, not with the drop in quality, and not with service that felt like it was running on autopilot. I used to recommend The Georgian Room to people without thinking twice. After this visit, I'm not sure I would. We came here probably 30 minutes ago, spur of the moment after our wedding and let me just say, Heather we appreciate you SO SO much. She immediately noticed we were newlyweds and made our short time there so meaningful. We ordered a round of drinks and were able to take amazing post marital pictures even though they were setting up for an event. Called the hotel (310)395-9945 yesterday afternoon ahead of our dinner reservation to inquire about the corkage fee. Gentleman who answered told me it would be $35 a bottle. When we received the bill, we were charged $75 a bottle. Very unacceptable misinformation - and especially when finding out at the end of the meal. Had we known, we may have saved our bottles for another occasion and purchased cocktails plus a bottle. Appreciate the live music - but it was so loud, that our party of four struggled to have any dinner conversation and may have been the reason why our server didn't really engage with us much. Beautiful setting - decent food - lackluster service. Had a much better experience there last year and hope it gets some attention to make it shine again. read more

Have been to the spaghetti night a few times. The first time was def better than the last time. I was there about three weeks ago. The service was spotty .. our waitress seemed not very present aka could have cared less... the som was less than knowledgeable . That said the bartender came from behind the bar to save the service. We did bring one bottle of wine that we basically served ourselves. With a $75 plus corkage fee that is no bueno. We bought two off the menu. The garlic bread and Caesar salad were very tasty. The bowl of spaghetti was pretty dry and the mains, we had all of them except the steak were nothing special. The desserts were excellent. The room is really nice and cozy. Our server either hated her job, hated us or was just trying too hard to be snobbish. The service was slow despite there being empty tables. The food was mediocre at best for the absurd prices and they charge extra for every little thing they possibly can. An additional cost for horseradish sauce (that was basically butter and hardly a hint of horseradish in it) to go with your $65 steak that comes with nothing else but some mushy garlic? Party like it's 1933! The quiet reopening of The Georgian Room in Santa Monica peaked my curiosity as a must-try experience. My wife and I snagged a reservation on Thursday night (they are only open three nights a week) and after checking in at the curbside front station of the recently restored, vibrant Georgian Hotel, we were escorted behind a velvet rope and told to knock at a wooden door with mermaid handles. We were then welcomed inside and told the house rules: no cell phones, no video, no photography (the head captain made us take our phones out and apply a sticker to the camera) and to soak in the experience of dining with the lost art of conversation and live music. I, for one, was thrilled for this. Escorted downstairs to the basement of the hotel, the 65-seat space was a flashback to a time when the likes of Judy Garland, Bugsy Siegel and Dick Van Dyke graced the very space. The walls were dark wood, beautifully restored. Comfortable booths, perfect lighting ambiance and quiet music was pumped through the speakers in between sets from the pianist and jazz violinist. I decided to try the Bye Bye Birdie, a tribute to Dick Van Dyke's Whiskey Sour. It was delicious, perfectly blended with moscato, citrus, pistachio and bitters. Complimenting the drink was a sampling of Parmesan Chunks, along with a 12-year aged balsamic vinegar. Delicious! Our meal consisted of the following: Caviar Service (available in 15g, 30g and 50g, served with sweet potato crisps and mascarpone scallion dip) Caesar Salad and Citrus Avocado Arugula Salad (both extremely fresh, with wonderful flavor combinations and delicious dressings). Rigatoni Alla Vodka served with Pomodoro, Chili and Organic Cream (incredibly tasty with the right amount of heat) 12 oz. NY Strip with Truffle Butter (served Medium, very delicious and seared properly) 6 oz. Petit Fillet with bernaise (my wife said it was delicious and cooked to her liking and the sauce was also delicious). Side of Fingerling Potatoes (wonderful compliment to the main courses with a slightly salty, cheesy and chive flavor). Bananas Foster Crumble and Lemon Ricotta Meringue for dessert (the bananas foster was Incredible, while the meringue was quite tart with the mango filling for my taste). The service is impeccable, complete with staff wearing white jackets and offering five star hospitality. The pricing is definitely not 1930s friendly, so be prepared to spend around $500+ for an average experience for two. However, for this type of experience, you can't beat the intimate privacy (hello, celebrities!), impeccable service, delicious selections, as well as the speakeasy atmosphere over several hours. It's definitely an event for foodies and hidden-gem seekers alike. Valet parking through the hotel is offered, but be prepared to pay around $20 to have your car stored while you dine. read more

Horrible service, mediocre food and declining atmosphere. When we arrived they made us wait outside the door for 15 minutes. They then told us to wait at the bar upstairs while they checked on our table and then came upstairs 10 minutes later to tell us they didn't have a table for us and they had made a mistake with our booking - some issue with their system. It was our anniversary and we drove over there and wasted an hour in total and couldn't eat there. We had a sitter and had to rush to the bar at Forma to eat (the food there is better). They apologized for the mistake but that was it - they didn't so much as offer a reservation for another date or to comp the drinks we grabbed at the bar while they made us wait on our table that never materialized. I've never been treated like that by a restaurant and had them make absolutely no effort to make it right. We've eaten there before multiple times and the food is just fine. The only reason to go is for the atmosphere and even that has gotten worse as it's been open for longer. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

The Georgian Room is a 5 star hang out spot - no question about it. But.... Let's break it down... My wife & two friends decided we wanted to check out The Georgian Room after reading an article about it in the Santa Monica Daily Press. We had an event in Santa Monica that was ending around 9:30pm, so we made "late night" reservations at 10:30pm on Friday, August 4th. We emailed about one month in advance to secure the reservation. Upon arrival, everything was incredible! Door guy (his second day) was super friendly & talkative - which really pleased me. Then, the concierge covered our phone cameras & prepped us for the experience we were about to have. We get ushered into the spot and it's INCREDIBLE! Straight out of the mobster movies. Straight out of a Sinatra song. Piano crooner, dim lights, expensive beers. The Georgian Room had it all. We sat in a booth & our server was over to get our drink orders. Now here's where it falls apart. The service at The Georgian room is HORRIBLE. Truly awful. Our server got our drink orders without asking if we wanted anything to eat. She took away our food menu & didn't even give us the option. Which seemed strange since almost every other table was eating. After we got our drinks, our server LEFT! She left the restaurant for 45 MINUTES! We were sitting there with empty drinks & glasses on our table for almost an hour. No one stopped by. No one even looked at us. It was as if we did something wrong? I kept asking everyone if we looked poor or something. Did they think we didn't have money? Yes, we were the youngest guests there, but we were more than ready to drop $500 on overpriced pasta. After almost an hour (we would have said something earlier if we weren't having such a good time) - we have to flag down a server/manager/staffer named Justin. He was very taken aback & didn't seem interested in serving us either! He apologized that our server went on break & no one covered for her. "We haven't been open long" he mentioned. Our server finally comes back & never even apologizes. She just again explains how there was a shift issue. They then gave us complimentary fries as a "sorry that happened" gesture, but they should have absolutely comped the second round of drinks. To be honest, our experience at the Georgian Room was truly incredible, but it should have been even better. For a place that charges $14 for a pilsner, you better have exceptional service. It was kind of a mess honestly - they had what felt like 20 workers running around for about 50 guests. White jacket servers/managers running around. Kitchen guys with aprons running around. Black suit managers with earpieces running around. Looking like Secret Service. Then the kicker - there was a blonde woman in a white dress (head manager, we think) who bopped from table to table making sure everyone was OK - hanging out - laughing - having a good time - we were the ONE TABLE she didn't even look at. Not sure what we did wrong, but the Georgian Room wasn't a fan of us even though we were a fan of them! It's an incredible room! Soeakeasy vibe near the ocean - it's just great Where they miserably fail are the prices. This place is incredibly overpriced for what it is. Cocktails in the mid to high 20s. Desserts hovering near $20. A burger with fries at $35. Glass of wine for almost $30. Some of the higher end LA steakhouses don't charge almost $80 for a petit filet but the Georgian does. Regrettably the sticker shock of the bill made a very nice evening much less so. So if you are dining out on a corporate card and work for one of the big tech or finance firms go at it. We ordered 22oz ribeye, creamed spinach, fingerling potatoes and ceaser salad / drinks. Bill came out to around $300 which was way too much for the quality of the food.
