Food was decent overall -- we had pasta, pizza, and fish soup, and everything tasted good. Fish soup, was more shell soup, small fragments of fish, should have been called seafood soap. The prices felt a bit high for what you get. The waiters also tried pretty hard to upsell additional items, and look super annoyed when you don't go with their suggestions which took away from the experience a little. Lobster dish with pasta....was it worth $110 euro???, depends on who you ask, my family did enjoy so for us, it was worth the price. What stood out most was the automatic 12% tip; this was the only place in Venice where we were forced to tip. This is a hard review to write, food was very good, atmosphere and location are great, service was fine but we didn't leave happy. Tourist Beware - don't order anything that doesn't have a price on it and don't allow your server to suggest anything not listed on the menu. When a menu of €10 to €35 prices turns into an €790 bill for a group of five, you know you were tourist trapped. - My son ordered a glass of red wine - server suggested the 1/2 bottle of house red (got 2 glasses out of it - €72 ) - My daughters ordered 2 bottles of house prosecco ( we've paid €30-€40 each at other restaurants, €75 here = €150) - 4 of us were ordering the €34 sea bass, the waiter suggested the "chef special" 'family style serving', we ordered two (they were beautifully done and large portions except they were €110 EACH = €220, not the €134 for 4) - "Family style" side dish of lobster pasta suggested by waiter €90 - Fairly charged €150, appetizers and about 7 misc drinks - 1 regular menu meal €35 GOT OUR BILL UP TO ABOUT ~ €710-€720 AND THEY ADDED A 10% service fee for €70 read more

Beware of this tourist trap. Menu shows all items to be between 12 and €20. When the bill came, we were shocked to see that for a family of four. Our meal was €140. When I question them on the price of the Cocio Pepe they said it was the evening special and that's why the price wasn't listed on the menu. Settled for an indoor table near a fan. Service was decent. Decided not to order too heavy because it was a late lunch and we had dinner to look forward to. Had a meat and cheese platter and a salad. Just know, you're paying for the location, which is wonderful, but still. We got the gnocchi with tomato sauce and smoked salmon, the gnocchi with the pesto, and pizza with mushrooms and prosciutto. The gnocchi definitely did not taste freshly made, and from the vinegar tang of the pesto it probably came from a bottle. If you want to enjoy the grand canal while having dinner, there won't be much better options; in Venice, you either get good food or a good view. read more

We had a large, indecisive group of thirteen. It was hot. We had been walking awhile. Most wanted to eat, or at least drink. They were going to sit us all together outside so we could enjoy the views of the Grand Canal. Some perused the menu and balked at the price and walked away. So, we regrouped down the road. The majority decided for the group to head back here as we were tired of walking. We would pay for the view. They again made room for us. We sat. Now, the majority wanted separate checks for each couple or threesome. I was seated closest to the waiter. I told him separate checks. He said one check. I was already hot and sweaty from walking and pissed at the majority of the group. I said loudly either separate checks or we'll all leave. He decided separate checks from 13 paying customers is better than no checks from no customers. So of course, the majority gets served way before me and my better half. They are almost done eating when I ask, "Have we been forgotten". Our food finally comes out. Medicore at best. You are paying for the views here, not the food. read more

Cute restaurant on the grand canal near the Rialto bridge. It offers outside seating right next to the canal or you can choose to sit in the cozy restaurant. This was my first time crossing the Grand Canal for a meal and I was not disappointed. I was drawn in by the oysters on the menu and when I was told they could be grilled I was sold. The oysters were outstanding and I honestly considered ordering a second round. The lamb chops were also on point, but I have to remind myself when order that there are no sides that come with these dishes. Fortunate for me I was full at the end of it and will definitely consider paying this restaurant a visit if I am ever in Venice again. read more

My husband taught me years ago... you get great food or you get a great view, not both! And if you're getting a great view, expect to pay for it regardless. So I was pleasantly surprised with the tasty food. We had a bottle of wine, shared a salad then pasta. We inquired about the osso bucco and were told it was a little tough. They recommended the tomahawk steak (of course they did!) It comes on a sizzling plate and continues to cook. That allowed us to warm up the somewhat warm french fries and grilled veggies to perfection. We waited outside for a canal-side, large table. As soon as it was available, they moved us. The service was just right... they were there when we needed them and distant when we didn't. The ambiance is exceptional. I was a little nervous to try this restaurant, because I thought due to its location it would be a tourist trap with less than average food and expensive prices. So glad to say I was way wrong (as far as the food and the price goes)!! The location gives you a BEAUTIFUL view of the Rialto Bridge, the Grand Canal, and the several gondolas passing you by. At night it is extremely romantic with several stained glass lights strung up all around the restaurant (highly recommend sitting outside!!) The food was DELICIOUS. The menu has several traditional Venetian options, as well as some Italian options. I ordered the fried calamari (the freshest I had in Italy) and the lobster (very juicy and cooked to perfection). The fish is actually on ice outside the restaurant- and after a fish is specifically picked for you and cooked, it is brought out and filleted right in front of you!! Fresh-fresh-fresh. I also tried a chocolate cake dessert that was decadent, no complaints there. The best part about this restaurant was the service. The servers didn't hover around your table (or rush you out, despite the long wait), but were immediately available whenever you needed something. They were VERY attentive to us- as going as far as straightening up a jacket on the back of our chair that started to fall off. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in Venice (what a great experience!!). read more

We stopped for lunch after visiting the Rialto Bridge and nearby shops. We both had a Calzone (1 was big enough for both of us). Food was terrific, ambiance was awesome, right on the grand canal with an excellent view of the bridge. Tables and chairs are so crammed with trying to get as many people in the restaurant as possible but we felt forgotten once seated. Service was very poor, having to ask for menus and having to flag down the waiters for everything. The waiter had a surly attitude and acted as if we were annoying him. The waiters were all on the sidewalk flagging down passersby to come in to the restaurant instead of taking care of the customers already in the restaurant. Let's not kid ourselves here: you're paying for the canal side location and the romantic view, not the food. The food is just okay, is terribly overpriced, and the restaurant levies an especially tacky 12% service charge on top of their already inflated menu prices for no reason whatsoever, other than the fact that they can! Again, I warn you in advance: the prices are high and the portions are really small. You can't tell from my photos but I'm telling you, we were served mere bites of food. You may think it's affordable for Venice, but remember to add an additional 12% to every single thing on the menu. Prepare yourself for serious sticker shock before opening that menu! The bread basket was filled with crunchy, cracker-like breads and everything was very tasty. For once I didn't mind paying the "bread" cover charge that runs rampant in Italy because it was fun to nibble on all the different bread options. We ordered the grilled vegetables appetizer and it was a complete ripoff at 14 Euros (plus 12%). The portion was TEENY and barely enough for one person. The plate was miniscule and the veggies were cut into small bites so my photo makes it appear that there was far more food than we actually got. Next up was the lobster pasta (17 Euros before the added service charge). I was very disappointed that the pasta wasn't homemade, but at least this was a normal sized portion and it tasted good enough. I felt as if the chef was mocking me because my pasta was served with a gorgeous upside down lobster tail. I flipped it over ready to extract the sweet meat...and the shell was empty and just for presentation. D'oh!!! My husband got the scallops gratinee (21 Euros before service charge) and it was a measly portion of super tiny scallops. He was so hungry when we left the restaurant! Epic fail and epic rip-off for this dish. The seafood fettuccine at 17 Euros (before 12% service charge) was probably the best value on the menu. It had lots of seafood but the pasta was still from a box. The service was fine and our waterside table was perfect with a gorgeous view at dinner time. The twinkling lights from the bankside was wonderful as we watched boats glide by. There is lovely and romantic outdoor lighting from colorful fixtures too, all adding to the beautiful ambiance. The prices are typical in a tourist spot and items we ordered were pretty good no complaints. They have a menu in English with pictures. My sis and I enjoyed fresh grilled fish special, my other sis got the langostinos, mom got the seafood pasta, our friend had the truffle noodle dish, and my other friend had the ravioli with meat sauce. We had a waiter that spoke English, but another waiter who was helping didn't really speak so both kind of assisted our table. We were a group of 6 ladies and our waiters were awesome, talked and joked with us (We made an effort to speak Italian and they appreciated it. )... There is indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor seating is a must to appreciate the view. It's right by the gondolas, so you can see them parked. The food we ordered was delicious, and when they brought out our dessert they sang Happy Birthday! I was so surprised. We really enjoyed our time here. read more

Reccomended to us by an Italian friend or did not disappoint. The service was good and they were quite friendly. We said we wanted to wait for a waterside table and they said no problem and suggested we wait inside with the air conditioning. Prices were reasonable and portions were good. We all enjoyed our food. Enough that we actually came back for the second night. My Pasta Nero (cuttlefish with ink, it was delicious but will turn your teeth and lips black for the meal) was so good that we ALL ordered it on our second meal! Highly recommend! read more

This restaurant is excellent. Value to price is outstanding. I had an excellent meal here. The interesting thing is the negative reviews actually reflect the cultural ignorance of the reviewers. What in their opinions are negative aspects are actually truly Italian traits. The experiences that generated negative reviews are based on American misunderstandings of Italian culture. It's the proverbial ugly American syndrome. They come in from Las Vegas, etc. expecting serving sizes from American Italian restaurants, hint, you aren't in America anymore and this is the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. Italians eat three courses, antipasto (basically an appetizer), a 1st course which is the pasta, and a 2nd course which is the main meal. The dishes here are designed for that culture, if you come in here and order a plate of pasta expecting to have a full meal you're going to be disappointed. As to the friendliness of the staff, the staff was outstanding, however they are Italian. If you're in idiot, they are not going to be nice to you. So, don't be an idiot like the people that left negative reviews. As got the comments about the pizza not been great, this isn't a pizza restaurant, you're lucky they didn't just throw you in the canal, which they should have for ordering a pizza here. The only reason they have pizza on the menu is for idiot Americans that don't understand that not every Italian restaurant has pizza. This was our first dining experience in Venice and Italy all together. It was a perfect location right on the canal and sitting outside is a must. The bellini's were delicious. We shared the diavola pizza which was good. Looking back, it wasn't our favorite pizza, but much better than anything in the States! Although we didn't have any seafood, they have plenty of it, displayed right outside the restaurant. read more

Very nice location, almost a perfect setting, sitting along side the canal and looking at the rialto bridge. The setting is the best part of the restaurant, if you go, try and get waterside seats (people fight over them). The food was good (not great) and it was very pricey. One good thing was the menu wasn't full of pasta (after spending almost 2 weeks in Italy, you need something more than pasta). My meal was quite small (fish and potato) where my husbands was a better size. The service charge was massive - 12.5% which was odd as we were initially told $3 p/p. overall we had an ok meal and an ok service. read more

He seem to turn on the charm for the parties that gave the appearance of leaving a good tip. We had been traveling all day and probably looked a little disheveled to him therefore we didn't receive his utmost attention. This was probably my favorite meal in Italy. We ordered a lot - an antipasta, 2 pastas and 2 main courses. The fish antipasta was delicious and had some of the best octopus I have ever eaten. It was tender and melted in your mouth. We ordered linguine with lobster and the mushroom tagliatelle and both were delicious. We also ordered fried calimari and saltimbocca. The calimari was tender with a light crispy coating, and the saltimbocca was perfect in my opinion. The serving sizes seemed larger than in other restaurants we visited while in Italy. To top it all off, the location, next to the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal can't be beat. read more

Huge tourist trap. Expensive and portions on some things were small. Had an altercation on bill, big scam artists when they see Americans. We ordered the fried calamari, which was a main dish, as an appetizer. The lady who had it next to us had substantially more than we did. Then we ordered, I had the bran ink and he asked me if I wanted fries, vegetable or salad. My husband had the liver and polenta (polenta sucked) he asked him the same question. Then we found $15 on the bill for fries with a 12% service fee that was NOT the tip. I spoke to him in Italian and he continued to argue that it was not what he said and I was not going to make a scene so he lost his gratuity for scamming us. The experience is without comparison. The location is the closest to the Rialto Bridge, atmosphere is ideal. Food is fantastic, mostly seafood, but as a foodie there is typically too much attention placed on presentation - this place delivers mounds of food and the experience to make it worth it. It was a very nice day & they had several tables outside & the owner expected me to sit inside. I told him "No, I want to sit outside." He said, "No, you have to sit inside." I told another waiter what was happening & he said that that man was the boss, & what he said "goes". I walked away, but was ticked off, and went back & asked again, and the man refused. I told him I was staying right across the canal at the Rialto Hotel, & had just arrived, and was staying for 10 days, & that he was making a BIG mistake. I travel alone A LOT & I have NEVER been treated SO RUDELY before in my life. Needless to say, that man never got a dime of my money & I will make sure that everyone on my Facebook & Instagram knows about this place. The food was just ok, nothing special. No offers for dessert or coffee, so after waiting so long I flagged down the nearest waiter for our bill. No bill came.
