The clams were soft fresh. They're a little too al dente in Chicago, possibly because they have to travel thousands of miles. My wife's gnocchi in spider crab sauce was excellent! She claims her best seafood so far in our 1 week trip between the Greek Isle and Venice. Unfortunately the shrimp in Risotto with mushrooms and truffle was a disappointment. My husband, daughter, and I stopped in for dinner, based on the great reviews. Service is really the highlight here, with waiters being very friendly and helpful. Ambiance is great and location near the Rialto bridge is perfect. Food is mixed... - Sea bass was decent but definitely not as fresh as it could have been. - My daughter loved her gnocchi. - My husband's pasta was really not tasty at all...the sauce was reminiscent of Ragu. - Caprese was a great appetizer and beautifully presented. - Complimentary bread was dry and unimpressive. - Desserts: I didn't try the two my husband and daughter ordered (something chocolate and a tiramisu I think) but they LOVED them. I had high hopes reading the reviews. Also the 15% off helped. Five of us went with an open mind. I mentioned the yelp review check in when we entered and the guys said, "Great we are happy to have you heren" we were the only table in the restaraunt. We had some delicious wine and some pretty good beer. We ordered a margarita pizza, risotto for 4 people, and spaghetti for the other. The pizza came out and was was good. Once we were finished with the pizza and waiting for our entrees things got a little weird. The four risottos came out after what seemed like a long time. We started eating even though the fifth person had not gotten their spaghetti yet. The risotto was luke warm and was not cooked through. The risotto was crunchy, but none of us are really going to complain. After slowly eating hoping that the last person would be served, fifth person got their spaghetti. Fortunately it was hot and was tasty. Since I'm always up for trying something new we tried to order bananas foster crepes and flambeau berries a la mode. The waiter said he could only make one at a time and it would take 20 minutes for the creeps, so we just opted for the berries. They were good, but he made 2 orders rather than the 1 order we wanted. We didn't say anything, figuring no big deal, we have the 15% off. With all of the delays between courses (pizzan entrees, and dessert, it took nearly 2 and a half hours to have dinner. Slow service but I'm not marking them down for slow service, just the uncooked risotto and the inability to have two dishes come out at the same time (risotto and spaghetti) and creeps and berry deserts). When we got our bill I reminded the waiter that we had told the host that we had a check in 15% off, he looked us and said, "We don't honor that." I said, " Ok, that's interesting because when we came in, I told the host who seated us and he didn't say that." He reluctantly said, "Ok, I will honor it this time." WOW! What a meal and what a great night. Hats off to this hidden gem, right behind our hotel. Yelp did not let me down this time. The 4.5 stars is too low if our experience is any indication Our server, can't remember her name, was incredible. They sure catered to our party of 7 wonderfully! They started us off w a complimentary cordial of some orange liguer (wasn't Frangelico) mixed w proseco I think. Not 100% but it was a nice start even though I liked it more than anyone else at the table We all had a salad to start which consisted of lettuce tomatoes carrots radicchio. All were crisp and fresh. Special mention to all tomatoes in Italy. These are not your supermarket tomatoes (at least not Florida supermarket tomatoes). Olive oil and balsamic salt and pepper seems to be all they serve w salads here in Italy and frankly that's how it should be when the veggies are fresh!!! For mains I had a baked fish in foil with a seafood stuffing. It was presented in the foil and she then asked me if I'd like her to serve it. At table side she deftly deboned the whole fish and scooped the seafood stuffing (clams, shrimp, calamari, mussels even some octopus) on my plate w the filleted fish. Everything tasted fresh and simple without being overpowered w too much seasoning! I did get one bad mussel but that happens. Wife had linguine w clams, though the menu said spaghetti, they gladly switched it to linguine for her. She said it was excellent. Hard to recall everyone else's dinners as I was a few glasses of wine into the evening but all in our party loved their meals We were going to skip dessert as we were all stuffed but wife and I wanted something sweet so we tried the tiramisu, which I'm always reluctant to order anywhere anymore, but this was one of the best I ever had anywhere. It was how it's suppose to be! And to top off the whole night, after my sister in law cancelled her lemon sorbet dessert after she learned it contained alcohol, they gave her a lemon gelato w berries instead and she was thrilled. When the waitress saw our puzzlement about the lemon sorbet having booze, she promptly offered all of us others a round of them on the house! She stood there tablslide and mixed up a batch of what seemed to be lemon gelato, vodka and sparkling wine. She whisked it to a slushy consistency and poured it into decoratively chocolate-lined wine glasses!! Totally cool!! The only negative for me the whole night was their house red wine is slightly bubbly, which is for me personally but it was just fine.... especially after the 1st few glasses! Found this place down the back alley from our hotel (Hotel Rialto) which faces the Grand Canal. The alley also leads to one of the Pandora shops and Max Co. I quickly checked Yelp and was happy with the reviews so we took a chance. We went kind of early for Italian dinner at 7pm. There was no one else in the lovely dining room. They we're playing a soft American sexy time type music (haha). Very friendly staff greeted us and took our coats and gave us the menus. Menu is 90% seafood. We opted for a 4 course meal. 2 pastas, shared a veal course and mixed veggies (by recommendation) and a chocolate souffle. For reference we have been in Italy for a week now (Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Venice, Burano) and this pasta was #3 of the best we have had so far. I had the pesto with shrimp which was light, perfectly salted, and not too heavy on the cheese. Shrimp was cooked perfectly, not overdone, and peeled and cleaned properly. My husband had the ravioli with white dry martini sauce. The portion was small (5 pieces) with cherry tomatoes and shrimp. Although sauce was creamy, it was very light, both pastas were very fresh. Food came with long bread sticks as well as baguette slices with butter (odd). Bread was pretty good, seasoned, easy to eat on its own even if you're supposed to use it to sop up the amazing sauce (which we did). We could have licked our plates clean. The veal cutlet came with some kind of light apple (?) sauce with a side of mashed potatoes. This wasn't our favorite, but worked well with the mixed veggies (grilled eggplant, zucchini, tomato and bell peppers). And finally we had a lovely, rich chocolate souffle that came with ice cream and whipped cream. Perfect end to an amazing meal. The service was 5 star, not quite fine dining, but attentive without being intrusive, friendly and seemed like they wanted to be there. They had a €40 5 course option, but we didn't like all the options, it wasn't even mentioned. All 3 servers spoke excellent English and even helped us a bit with simple Italian phrases. I told him I was pregnant (and couldn't drink wine). He later asks me what the gender is, when I replied "it's a boy" he congratulated my husband and shook his hand. I asked him what if I had said girl, he jokingly said "better luck next time." We had a good laugh. It was one of the pricier meals we have had, a little under €100 with a €3.50 cover charge. Also got a half bottle of volipocella table wine. Like most table wine, just palatable, nothing to write home about. If you have trouble finding this place, know that it's worth the effort! This place was such a find, off the main tourist path down an impossibly narrow and charming alley, this restaurant is not your pizza stop! Delicious pasta prepared with love and pride. The owner himself served us and was incredibly attentive and gracious. The restaurant is cozy and lovely, great for a small group of friends or a romantic date. The prices are very reasonable, plan on a slow relaxed evening with a charming host. This place is horrible, please AVOID it. The waiter is an awful old man who is very pushy and forces you to order things you don't want. We came in here for lunch because it was the only place with air conditioning on an extremely hot July day. We had intended just to come for a quick bite but were having trouble finding something light on the menu. The waiter pushed us into ordering some "Venetian specialty" and appeared not to have the English to tell us what it was, just that we must have it. We told him we disliked seafood, but anything else was fine. After waiting ages, he showed up with 2 huge platters of lobster with pasta in a white sauce. I love pasta, but could barely eat any of it as the whole thing tasted of lobster. My husband valiantly tried to eat his lobster even though he doesn't like seafood either. We told the waiter we were very unhappy with our order but he pretended he didn't understand us and then charged us more than 200 euros at the end of the meal. He should have told us how expensive it was before forcing it on us, when we had been asking about much more reasonably priced dishes. We left still hungry, much poorer, and very angry. Well, apparently this place has been around for ages. My girl tells me Ronald Reagan dined here...now, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but I'll leave politics out of this review. We asked for a bottle of red wine (vino Rossi) which the elderly waiter picked for us. He spoke little English so I just asked for a bottiglia de vino rosso and he brought out a bottle which he did not even leave on the table after pouring it. He probably got an expensive bottle for all I know but it tasted good. My girl had the grilled Chicken and I had the Pasta with sardine. I noticed sardine is on more than a few items on the menu so I figured it might be a local Venetian favorite or at least something this restaurant specializes in. Not like I can ask the waiter about it, right? At any rate, The food was good and the bill wasn't bad at all. We certainly took our time with lunch not because we had nothing else to do, like sight seeing since this is a 1-day trip but the dude really took his time serving us. And even if I wanted to rush him he wasn't anywhere to be found. The restaurant was so underwhelming. I know yelp reviews are not always true but this was actually quite bad. The pictures depicted were so nice but apparently, the company owner changed as of today. The food portions were small and the food quality was bad even for venice standard. The risotto we ordered had only several very tiny mussels. The taste was not bad but for the price, portions could have been better. What was most abysmal was the attitude of the server. When I asked her about the 15% discount if we check in on yelp, the server's attitude toward our table went from very sweet to very hostile. She was actually mad that we tried to get a 15% discount. I did not want to argue about it as we came to Venice to enjoy our time. So I said it is fine but she could have just calmly told me that the restaurant owner had changed and they had forgotten to update it on yelp. This place will always have a special place in my heart. It was the perfect setting for my marriage proposal to my girl friend. We started off with a really good appetizer of sea bass and prawns carpaccio. The fish was so fresh and tasty. We had a really good bottle of wine that was recommended by the waiter that was only 30 or 35 euros. Our main dish was great as well. My love had the lobster with pappardelle. I had a pappardelle dish as well. Both were amazing. We had a private table to ourselves. Our timing was perfect because the restaurant was not very busy so that added to the intimacy. The waitress Meshu was great and took a video of my proposal. The entire staff congratulated us with a bottle of champagne and tiramisu. We were the last ones in the restaurant and Meshu made it more special by playing a song Here and Now by Luther Vandross. Me and my bride to be danced slowly together as we embraced and cried joyfully. Thank you all for making our night even more special. We will always remember how great your made our night! For our last night in Venice, we wanted a good meal so we wandered around for a while until someone gave us a "ticket" for free cover at their restaurant. There are plenty of people out in Venice trying to get you to eat at their restaurant, but for some reason we decided to give this one a try and I'm glad we did! The man lead us down an alley to the restaurant and said he'd give us the "best seat in the house," which made sense because nobody else was in there, which was a little worrisome. Now I don't know why more people weren't there! The food was pretty gourmet. I got a pesto pasta with shrimp and loved it! Bread came as an appetizer and we ordered their house white wine. We were brought some complimentary limoncello and cookies after our meal which was great! Good service and a wonderful atmosphere. Much nicer inside than we expected! I think the squid ink here is literally shit from the Gypsy laborers cooking their God awful food in the back. This restaurant segregates based on skin color, I'm so serious. All the colored people are seated in this cold, mosquito infested corner of the establishment, while the desirables are seated in the ACTUAL restaurant. This makes me feel ostracised for being Asian, which is something me and my Asian family can not control. I now hate myself. This pasta makes me wanna die. It is terrible. This makes me hate Italians and all they stand for. And to rub salt in the wounds, it's expensive compared to the rest of the eateries in this country - the rest of which are actually GOOD. Well I'm glad that I looked at Yelp to find this restaurant. It was our first night in Venice and we decided to go to this restaurant as it had good ratings and was close to our hotel. We nearly overlooked it as it is down a little lane opposite the Diesel shop and to the left. We was the only customers in there as it was a horrible rainy evening in February, it didn't put us off though. We had the undivided attention of our waiter who recommended some lovely dishes. I had a antipasti similar to Parma ham and mozzarella and my husband had pickled sardines with sweet pickled onions and raisins.My husband had homemade sea bass ravioli with white wine and martini prawn sauce and I had seafood pasta ribbons for our main which were really nice. We then shared tiramisu for our dessert. We was very well looked after . We was undecided on the red wine to have and was allowed to try two types to enable us to make our choice.
