Hillcrest is located near the ferry stop in Cruz Harbor, making it a very convenient location. From the guesthouse you've got to walk about 5 minutes down the hill to catch a taxi to any of the beaches. The walk up to the guesthouse is steep, but we found it to be just fine and quite quick. The views from the rooms are pretty, the apartments clean and comfortable. Extra perks included being picked up and dropped off at the ferry station by Phyllis, wi-fi access, kitchen with snacks, fruit, coffee, tea, guidebooks. We stayed in the Tropical Garden suite- we chose this suite partly because of the beverages and food that are provided in it. (Some food items were expired, but that may be an unfair complaint b/c I never brought it to the owner's attention.) It was nice already having the wine, rum, muffins, cheese, and other "extras" there when we arrived. We also enjoyed using our suite's blender, snorkeling equipment, and bbq grill. The view from the large wrap-around balcony was amazing. Three tips: 1. Rent a car! It's possible to get around the island without one, but having a mini-suv was such a huge convenience. 2. Check out the programs offered by the park rangers. We really enjoyed the free snorkeling tour at Trunk Bay. The ranger/guide, Pat, was very knowledgeable and I was so happy that we woke up early to do this. It was free, but I would have gladly paid a hefty amount for this guided snorkel tour. 3. Eat at the Windy Level Restaurant. The prices were unbeatable and the food was fabulous. I wish we had found this place on our first day!

One of our favorite MVCI properties…read more - - - June, 2025 Visit - - - My wonderful wife planned a relaxing trip for us to St. John's, US Virgin Islands (just east of Puerto Rico), in June, 2025; we had a great time... such a beautiful island! Our flights routed through Atlanta to St. Thomas, as there are no flights to St. John; you get to St. John via ferries from St. Thomas or St. Croix, USVI, or from the British Virgin Islands. The need to route through St. Thomas, coupled with the wonderful visit we enjoyed in 2021, led us to intentionally stay one overnight at the Marriott Frenchman's Cove, and we had a great time and enjoyed one a most beautiful sunset, from the floating mat at the beach. This trip we enjoyed: - an afternoon in the beach, complete with mai tais! - Dinner next door... Luna Mar at the Westin (there is a third Marriott property on the other side of the Westin; two hotels and Frenchman's cove is MVCI) - Morning snorkeling - Breakfast at the pool bar before checking our - Fantastic views from the beach and from our room - Great courtesy by the staff For more about the property, which one of our favorite MVCI properties, the rooms, and more, please see the 2021 review, below. - - - The property - - - Frenchman's Cove is built on a hillside, you arrive at the main desk at a the top of the hill; there are buildings at that level; the other buildings are built lower down the hill, and the property has its own beach. The buildings are colorfully painted, and look great, especially when you're in the water looking back at the shore. - - - The room - - - The rooms are standard MVCI / Marriott Vacation Club rooms: - 2 bedrooms, one king and two full sized beds - 2 bathrooms - Laundry - Kitchens with servings for 8 and all the utensils you need; refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave and coffee machine.. with coffee available; just ask housekeeping for more - Patio table and chairs with a view - Note: if you leave the patio table unattended, you my return to find seagulls arrived and are some of your bacon while you were bringing out the rest of breakfast... :) - nice! Recommendation: bring a Bluetooth speaker for music. - - - The beach & Sunset Cove Bar & Grill - - - This trip we checked and quickly made our way to the beach; the day was sunny and nice and warm but not hot. We also had a snack at "the pool bar," Sunset Cove Bar & Grill... which offers a good selection of good for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacking in between. The room has a kitchen, but since we stayed only one night, there was less of a need for groceries... so... in the morning, we had a breakfast at the Sunset Cove Bar & Grill - it was a wonderful breakfast of steak and eggs and OJ... with a wonderful view of the beach. - - - MarketPlace - gift shop and mini grocery store - - - The MarketPlace staff is friendly and helpful; they offer pastries, yogurt and other breakfast food, spices and other good for dinners and lunch and a variety of bottles of drinks, many from around the Caribbean. They also offer sunscreen and other items for the outside; and souvenirs - shirts, hats, more. - - - The surf, the lack of on St. Thomas and St. John - - - We have been blessed to visit the Caribbean a couple times and have noticed that there is not much surf, not many waves. On an early trip someone explained that the Caribbean is just at a position in the ocean where the tides are just not very noticeable; brief internet searches suggest the tide only varies from a few inches to a foot or so... such small changes don't lead to many waves. Okay so this was an okay stay but, We had a few issues…read more One) if you are in search of good AC be warned this place sometimes is not the best with it. Ours was so bad we had to switch rooms not to mention the hot water in the shower not working. We let the host know and they said they would send someone up to look while we went to have dinner at sugar fin, which was long but we didn't mind. Once we got back they still hadn't had anyone look at it so we suffered one night and got moved to a new room the next morning. The AC goes to 65 but it will only get done to 74 if you are lucky. So be warned. Second) we got late check out for 1pm but we were bombard at 11am over and over again until 1pm. It was ridiculous! Took us twice as long to get out because we had to keep answering the door. Lastly three) me and my mother had a cabana by the spa pool and a spa treatment. These were short treatments but with them you get access to the spa amenities. I was shown the lounge room but nothing else, but my mother who went before me was shown nothing. She didn't even know that it was an option for here to use. These should be shown to everyone. The professionalism there is lacking. Overall the bars and restaurants were great, sometimes you do have to wait but you are on island time so it's not a huge dealbreaker for me at all. Everyone is very nice and friendly even when we needed help. Just keep in mind it is HOT and this may not be worth the price they make you pay.

We arrived on the boat and were greeted by Hinckley, the sailing wonder-dog, and Josh, the first-mate. The entire crew did a wonderful job making us feel at home on this beautiful boat (which also is full service--read: has a bathroom on board!). The fact that Simplicity limits its charters to six ensures that you make quick friends and feel comfortable. In the morning we sailed to a secluded spot, enjoyed a snack of fresh local fruit along the way, and then had a guided snorkel with Josh, who is very knowledgable about the marine life. We reboarded the boat to a delicious lunch of barbequed chicken, rice pilaf, caesar salad, and fresh bread. The food was some of the best food we had during our stay in St. Thomas, and we couldn't believe that they prepared it on a boat. We continued our sail to St. John, and visited Honeymooner's Beach, a beautiful beach that can only be reached by boat. We enjoyed some more snorkeling and relaxed on the beach before sailing back to St. Thomas. The boat is beautiful, the food is wonderful, and Charlie, Josh, and Hinckley made us feel like old friends. You couldn't pick a better charter to sail with during your visit to St. Thomas!

This place is soooo lovely! I want to get the one qualm out of the way first so I can rave about it…read moreotherwise. Only issue is seems that at certain times of day there is like NO parking; we came back from the national park around 5:30 to a completely full lot out front. We pulled up at the dolphin market next door and tried to contact the bnb to confirm we wouldn't get towed there. While waiting we ran into folks at the bnb who said usually things "start clearing out around 6 when the workers leave." This was indeed what happened: 2-3 spots appeared around 6:11pm. Alright, that aside: this place is sooo pretty inside! Looks newly renovated, I love the modern design. The couch is large and comfy, the bed is also large and comfy, and really like having two separate TVs. The kitchen is well stocked and has modern appliances, and the bathroom is stunning! Great waterfall showerhead with heating as well, and central AC. Feels very secure as well, in a central part of St. John very close to the boat dock, the shops, and the entrance to the national park. Not hilly at all in the area either, and flat parking spots (in case you're driving a low clearance vehicle). It's a little pricey, was $570 with taxes and fees for just one night, but we felt that with all the amenities and location it was worth it. The contacts (mainly Dave) were also quite responsive; I made a mistake on arrival and thought my unit was 5 (it was actually 8, I was looking at the wrong booking). When I approached the folks in unit 5 they called Dave and he answered right away and we figured out my mistake, everyone was very gracious about it and of course very interested in making sure all was right. Would def stay here again, but as mentioned just mind the parking during the day, and the price issues ;) otherwise can't beat this spot!

We got in fairly early on a Saturday, got our rental car, and drove to the resort which wasn't too far from the airport (St. Thomas is small). Check-in was at 4, the guy at the gate was very clear in his directions on how to find the main office. We found it and were able to check in successfully. Then they sent someone to show us where the condo is and help us get our luggage inside. He was also filled with suggestions on places nearby and recommended a couple of activities within a 1-mile radius. We thanked him, tipped him and explored the resort. The place was clean although it could have used a general update in some parts of the condo. The huge sliding glass doors boosted a beautiful view of the ocean and the neighboring island St. Johns as well as other land formations surrounding St. Thomas. They were kind enough to leave a birthday card and a full-sized bottle of rum to welcome us. We didn't drink the rum but it was a nice gesture. The condo we stayed at were up the highest hill which could make for a challenging climb after meal times if you're dining at their on-site restaurants. You could always drive offsite to Red Hook, a town with restaurants and some night life that is conveniently located only about 5 minutes away. I loved the veranda view of the condo we stayed at. You can feel the cool breeze while you relax, take in the scenery and have something cool to sip on. A vacationers dream! There is a small kitchen, a nice living room with comfy furniture, and a queen bed. The biggest complaint I have is that the air conditioning unit is restricted to the living room which means the bedroom is the hottest room in the condo making it hard to sleep at night sometimes. They did provide fans but it's not quite the same. If you sat on the dining room table, you're freezing to death from the air conditioning but the bedroom you would be sweating. There wasn't a nice balance of airflow. But we made do. The resort has 3 pools. One is located up the hill, maybe 3 condos and down a flight of stairs away from where we stayed. Another was by the nature trail/near Ocean 180 and the third is right above the Sun and Sea Bar. There's no gym but trust me, just go up and down the hills a couple of times a day and you'd get your fill of cardio. Of course, if that is not your jam, they do offer a ride if you call the office but only during office hours. There are taxis they can help you get as well. We did not use either of these services so I can't speak to it as we had a rental car. There are free parking for those staying at the resort and they do issue you a parking pass. The staff were very courteous and friendly. I can't say enough good things about them. If we ever find ourselves back here again, I would not hesitate to book this resort.
