This is an airport that you get off the plane on the tarmac and walk to the terminal. That is fine, if a bit warm during summer, but during the rainy season I can imagine it is unpleasant. Inside, the terminal is perfectly functional but not much else. We waited a long time for our bags and ours were the very last to be unloaded. I guess someone had to be last but it was stressful because I thought the bags did not make the flight. They advise to arrive 3 hours before your flight, which considering the very small size of the airport seems odd. But for the departure we will comply.

Someone may or may not help you down. More then likely a fellow passenger will help you before anyone from the airport/airline. Too many different airlines fly into STT and this just make it more congested and chaotic. The airport is too small to accommodate any airline or third party travel clubs, so everyone get the same crappy service! Very limited food choices and the Hibiscus Cafe stinks up the entire waiting area. During peek season it could take you two or three hours to get through security. Again very antiquated and triple redundancy. IF you have Global Entry you can jump the Customs line but that is it. They have TSA precheck but No Clear and now that more and more people are e getting TSA Precheck it not much faster "at this airport ". I've been flying for over 30years and TSA and Global Entry for 10 and this is the worst experience I've had so far. I get that the agents have a job to do and I very much appreciate them keeping American Safe, but being rude and disrespectful is completely unacceptable! To be honest this airport will keep me from returning to this island, was just not totally amazed with a lot of things. Is it a beautiful place, in spots yes, but to deal with this airport for me it is not worth returning and I myself don't recommend, we only came here because it have the cheapest airfare, so shame on me for not doing more research. If you do get a rental, get a Jeep! You will need it!!! Get all the insurance you can, you will need it!!!! Driving on the island is different then anything I've ever experienced and not just because the drive on the Left side, it's just a free for all nobody cares and our New Jeep looked like it was 5 years old and had damage on all four corners. Take Pictures and Videos of EVERYTHING before you start it up!!! I love Hilton and the Hampton Inn, but the only one on the island is at the harbor where all the Huge cruise ships dock, Daily! Most of the time they are gone by 6pm, but the next 3 will be dock by 7am, so if you want to a view you need to get up early.

I barely made it due to long security lines. Overall, it's a nice airport and the main gateway to Puerto Rico. While there are a few areas that could use improvement, the convenience and island atmosphere is on point. If you're flying out of San Juan, give yourself extra time, grab one last Puerto Rican snack, and enjoy the journey home.

It had a nice teaser flavor of saying hello or bye to Puerto Rico - between the music, local businesses, souvenir shops, and Puerto Rican food options they still have a little bit of everything. Fairly straightforward. Not the largest airport in the world, but manageable and easy to understand once you're inside. The airport has a nice balance between being modern enough for travelers while still maintaining some local character. PARKING: Easy enough to navigate whether arriving by rideshare, taxi, rental car, or shuttle. Traffic can build during peak travel times, so give yourself a little buffer and don't be afraid to ask questions. CUSTOMER SERVICE: My experience was generally positive. Airport staff, TSA personnel, and airline employees were professional and efficient. TL;DR OVERALL: 4 No airport is perfect, but Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport does what a good airport should do--it gets you where you need to go while still giving you a sense of place. Tips: * Forgot some snacks, don't worry, they got a good souvenir shop with a decent range of Puerto Rico goods - apparel, coffee, snacks, etc.

You'll find three airlines here: Air Flamenco, Vieques Airlink, and Tax Aéreo. Carlos Jeep Rentals also has a booth here. I'm not sure when, but they put in new chairs that are more comfortable than the ones they used to have. Airport is clean and laid back. Staff is cool. Snack and beverage vending machines are the food options. Although, the airport is near Distrito T-Mobile and Gran Bahía Restaurant. Paid parking (I posted a pic with the rates). You can also take a cab or Uber to and from here. I really like flying to Culebra from here. It's in San Juan which makes it much more convenient than driving to Ceiba for the ferry or airport. That said, flying from here is more expensive. But I find it worth it because of the convenience. When we can fit it in our budget we prefer it. The trip takes about 30 minutes, maybe a bit more. The best part is the view. You get a great view of Old San Juan and Condado upon takeoff and landing. Plus the view of the northeast coast. Awesome.

To get to the island of Vieques, one has several options, and here they are: 1) Drive (or take cab) an hour to Fajardo and take a ferry 2) Drive/cab to fajardo and fly 3) Fly out of SJU 4) Fly out of Aueropuerto Isla Grande Options 1&2 require a long drive. I've heard the ferry can be very intermittent, and if you're going to fly, why not fly out of San Juan. Flying out of SJU is more pricey. This leaves Isla Grande. Yes, this airport is super small, but this is what makes it cool, unique, and more cost efficient. Yeah, you will step onto a plane, it is going to be a tiny plane where you can basically look over the shoulder of your pilot (I guess if you needed to, you could help him fly by taking the co-pilot's seat. Boarding is trouble-free and takes no time at all. The airport is also fairly close to Old San Juan, and a short cab ride. Overall this is the only real option for getting to Vieques or Culebra.
