I recently stopped back into Terroir with some friends for a post-dinner glass of wine. We were able to grab two high-top tables near the bar and pushed them closer together to accommodate our group of four. The bar definitely took wine seriously, but not at all in a stuffy way, but in a fun, playful manner. The menu was presented in a plastic binder full of 100+ wines by the glass, bottles of all varietals, cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, and more. There were all sorts of playful jokes and gaming-related imagery throughout the wine book. The televisions over the bar were showing Julia Child's cooking program, and the background soundtrack was courtesy of the female alt-rock band, Twen. Our server and drink expert, Joel, was delight! His wine knowledge was beyond impressive, and we were thrilled to have him take us through a flight of five Rieslings from their "Summer of Riesling" options. Of the enjoyable handful of glasses we tried, the 2023 Donnhoff Riesling Kabinett from Nahe, Germany was our favorite, since it was complex, unique, and sweet. In addition to our beverages, we ordered two slices of the homemade Black Forest Cake, which was one of the best cakes I had ever had! It was composed of moist layers of dark chocolate cake, bold cherries, and sweet cream, as well as a top layer of creamy milk chocolate frosting. It was complete heaven, so I was thrilled that the pieces had been so largely sliced! I will definitely be back and would like to try their happy hour, which is available daily. I loveddd my experience at Terrior! I had read about it in the book Cork Dork, and being a bit of a cork dork myself I had to try it out! My friend and I mostly went to get a bottle of wine and enjoy a sunny Friday, but I was surprised about how good the food was. We ended up getting more fries because they were delicious! Genuinely one of the most insane wine lists I've ever seen, and I believe that is more than enough of a reason to come back. The service was alright, but the slow pace almost matched the laid back vibe of the establishment. It gave you time to just sit back and enjoy your bottle. The bar is advertised as walk in only but showed up at 4pm on Saturday and only half the bar was full and every single table was empty but we were told the rest of the bar was for reservations. Apparently if they mismanage their bookings and are over booked, reservations will get moved to the bar. Also if you're lucky enough to reach them on the phone (a difficult feat as we tried calling 10+ times the prior day with no answer) then you can also reserve the bar. Servers were completely apathetic to the above situation. If you market yourself as having a bar for walk ins only, that should actually be the case. And a reservation line that no one answers? I don't usually drink much alcohol, but when it comes to white wine, I prefer Riesling--sweet with less acidity. There are so many Riesling selection that I've never tried. I'm prefer sweet and smooth and I could get my best one ever ! Waiters are super friendly with knowledge about wine, so I could understand taste easily n learn well. We came here for their extensive list of natural wines (which is shockingly difficult to find even in the NYC) and Terroir did not disappoint! Their natural wine list is massive & excellent. We also shared antipasti & a salad at the bar. Both were terrific, customizable and plentiful. Our bartender was friendly and knowledgeable and the vibe was excellent. I met some friends at Terroir for some drinks, snacks, and to catch up. While I had never been to this specific location before, they used to have a spot in the East Village that I visited around 10 years ago. Since that was a while back, I took this as an opportunity to rediscover the business - so off I went. At its heart, Terroir is a wine bar - additionally, they have some beer selections and a decent-sized food menu. The space is mostly made up of high tops with a couple of booths on the back wall, some outdoor seating, and an open kitchen. The decor is somewhat rustic - lots of wood with metal stools, for some reason I associate a name like Terroir to be stuffy but that wasn't the vibe at all. The drink menu is really large, to the point where it was almost overwhelming - they're giving Cheesecake Factory a run for their money. There are a LOT of wines here - separated by type with a lot of eclectic pop culture references peppered throughout. They seem to focus on a lot on Reisling, their selection is large and a lot of the shirts the team wore referenced it. All the wines recommended to us were great - we stayed in the white wine realm, though I did try a blueberry selection which was quite good. We also ordered a few snacks - popcorn, tinned sardines, and a large soft pretzel. All of these were good - the biggest standout to me was the pretzel which came with this super spicy mustard that blew out my sinuses. Service was good, everyone was friendly and made sure we were taken care of. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Terroir - the vibes were on and the selection was awesome. **One of the Best Wine Bars in New York** Paul Greco is a personality larger than life and he has curated a beautiful list that caters to casual wine lovers and professionals alike. The bar was hopping when we walked in but Paul showed us two spots at the end of the bar. My friend ordered vermouth and I ordered the Manzanilla Sherry off the wine on tap list. I spent about 20 minutes paging through the wine list. For $95, it is open bar wine and they have a large variety of wines. From sweet to dry. For those who know me, know that I do not do beer and kind of sort of graduated from just doing straight up liquor. There was an ice sculpture with the letter T where ppl can drink riesling out of and it was a clean and tasteful way of doing it the first time. The music tonight was very 1980s pop, would have preferred jazz, but that's just my personal preference. The space is very comfortable and the staff makes it even more so - laid back and friendly. Absolute gem of a place with the most amazing staff ever! I've lived so close by for well over a year now but never started going until recently, and it's been such a dangerous discovery. Although a wine bar it looks and feels more like a traditional beer/liquor bar, except the shelves behind the counter are filled with wine bottles. The heat lamps were working super well which is great since it's late October. The wine list is very long. I'm not sure how much is actual wine, but there is a lot of additional interesting info in there. We ended splitting a bottle of Bordeux between 4 of us for a reasonable price. We ordered a bunch of different items, the pigs in a blanket, the squash lasagna, steak tartare, the sexy carrots, bruschetta. The bruschetta was in a red sauce which I'm not used to.
