I went to Donna last week on a Tuesday night. Donna had such a great ambiance for a date night, casual drinks with friends or even solo drinking. I greatly enjoyed my time at Donna sipping on my espresso martini. My espresso martini was simply perfection! If you are in the area and want to relax at a small cute cocktail bar, I would recommend coming to Donna and enjoying the welcoming atmosphere. I did not try their food, but they do have a small food menu. I am definitely interested in coming back for some delicious cocktails and trying out their food. Okay drinks and nachos, but the server/staff kept trying to deny and gaslight us about a dirty glass. My friend ordered an old fashioned and the glass inexplicably had what looked like chili flakes crusted and stuck all around the outside. We asked about it, the server first claimed it was part of the drink (clearly not true based on the menu description) and then came back a second time and said the bartender admitted it was because a previous drink had left Tajin on the shaker - but even after admitting this, they did not offer a refund or a remake of the drink. Fwiw, for the food my friend and I got the chips and guac (which tasted like something you could find at a supermarket) and the empanadas (which were really dry). Popped by Donna while waiting for a reservation nearby. It was happy hour time so the place was jumping. Only 1 bar tender, and they were slinging. Props to them. I loved the interior. Inventive, modern, and chic all come to mind. Plus, as an added bonus: happy hour deals were pretty solid given New York's prices. I got a machete. It was definitely a strong agave drink. Slighlty margarita-esque but it had a blood orange vermouth float as opposed to orange curaçao. The float made it look bloody so that is where the name machete comes from I assume. It did not have the balance I was wanting, but still a decent drink. The happy hour menu seemed really solid. Great deals on bites and sips. I loved the ambience and would love to go back. It's just a 3 star right now for me purely for the drink. It just was not quite balanced. But once again, I did only get the one drink and the menu had some incredibly compelling alternatives. My partner and I stopped by Donna for an after-dinner drink and really enjoyed our experience. We were drawn to this bar due to the very unique cocktails. We arrived on a Sunday night at about 10pm, and it was fairly quiet - the kitchen was closed, but the bar area had quite a few people. We chose the coffee&soy sauce old fashioned (where else would you find something like that??) and an avocado drink. The coffee and soy sauce drink was good, but my favorite was the Lolo Avo, as it was very rich yet refreshing. Staff was friendly, and drinks were delicious and innovative. TLDR: cute new cocktail bar, great for dates. You can find better cocktails in the city, but this place is easy to book. I wanted to like this place more. I came for the Filipino flavors. I was pretty excited to try them because I haven't had Filipino focused cocktails in the city yet. Unfortunately I don't think Donna delivered as well as I'd hoped. I tried pretty hard to taste the soy or the coffee in the Kapatid. To me, it was just a sweeter old fashioned. If you're gonna say something's in a drink or dish, I want to taste it. We tried the Lolo Avo as well. Wasn't remarkable. I feel as though avocado is a pretty light flavor and can't really stand up to alcohol. Perhaps it was added for the creaminess/mouth feel? Not sure, but I think if you're looking for a piña colada type deal, the Brancolada is better. I've had several mushroom flavored old fashioneds in various bars, and they are always surprisingly delicious and fun. However, the Umami Old Fashioned was not comparable. It was difficult to drink for my entire table. We decided to move to another bar after. We did like two cocktails - the Elderflower-Plum Highball, and the Brancolada. Both were pretty light, and not drinks I would typically go for, but if you're looking for easy to drink and fruity, I'd go with those. Service was friendly. No complaints. Space is cute as well. Can't really speak to food. We just got chips and guacamole. They weren't remarkable and I think we were too turned off by drinks that we weren't interested. The vibe is takes you to a summery Mexico while in NYC. I had the Sporty Scary drink, we ordered pico de gallo guacamole chips, avocado tostada, roasted chicken tostada, and churros. We came for the food, so I can't speak for the drinks. The place is nicely decorated but crowded and loud. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We tried the chips and guacamole, chicken tostada, pork shoulder tostada, smashed potatoes, the rice and beans with chicken and the bean and cheese pupusa. I think the pupusa was the best dish we tried as it had the most flavor. The chips with guacamole and pico were enjoyable, nothing to set it apart, just good as expected. The smashed potatoes were good mainly because of the sauce they came with (though they were not smashed, just whole baby red potatoes). The chicken and pork shoulder tostada were lacking in meat and came cold/room temperature. I am not sure if that is how they were meant to be served or not. The rice and beans were lacking in flavor (the beets were an odd addition) and probably our least favorite dish of the night. read more

Fun but low-key spot in Greenwich village. We didn't try the food but the cocktails here are solid. This isn't the kind of cocktail bar that will blow you away, but the drinks are fun and most are faintly tropical. If you are looking for a date spot or a chill place to go with a small group of friends before or after dinner, Donna is a solid option that will likely have room for you and won't be overcrowded if you go late enough. We came here at around 10:30/11 for a nightcap on a Saturday night. There were a few other parties there but it was mostly empty, so we decided to sit up at the bar. The current menu is high school/college themed, with names reminiscent of one's typical academic activities. I don't usually love tropical drinks because they're often too sweet and too busy, but there's a decent amount of variety on this menu. I started with the Pre Req. (mezcal, sorrel, ginger, clove, amaro, vermouth), which was kind of like a spiced and bitter mezcal negroni and very unique. Really enjoyed this one and definitely my favorite drink of the night. I finished with the Office Hours (Filipino, Jamaican, and Mexican rums, chili, vermouth), which was more like a rum old fashioned or negroni. Figured I should try at least a little bit of rum while I was here. The drink was well-balanced but still complex thanks to the blend of several different rums. Overall, a solid spot that would be a great backup if you can't get into a more popular place around here. read more

It is disheartening when a newly established venue with tremendous potential fails to deliver on a fundamental aspect such as customer service. During our visit last night, despite having made a reservation, we encountered a series of disappointments that hindered our overall experience. They had our party of three squeeze into a 2-seat arrangement with a small table. Throughout our entire visit, there were vacant tables specifically designed for parties of three to four, yet our polite requests to relocate were inexplicably denied. To compound our dissatisfaction, we witnessed a party of two being seated in a more spacious booth intended for four guests. If the drinks had blown me away, I probably would have tried to ignore the poor customer service, but unfortunately they were nothing special and I've certainly had much better in NYC for $19 a drink. We initially planned on having dinner here as well, but the uncomfortable seating arrangement led us to finish the visit with one round of drinks. This place had a very cool concept - I was excited to see that it's a worker-owned establishment. However, the combination of subpar customer service and underwhelming cocktails left me thoroughly unsatisfied. It is truly a missed opportunity. read more

Server let's us know its Emo Night so the normal menu isn't available, okay this kinda sucks, we came for a few specific drinks. Server lets us know there are some of the drinks form the main menu they can still make if they aren't too complicated, I ask about one and she says its a go. I get it, and it just tastes super sweet and weird and the glass us completely wet and sticky. My friend gets just a beer and we decide not to order anymore and dip. Prob would have left after we heard the drinks thing, but we didn't want to get charged for not showing up to the reservation. The music and vibe were alright, but there was also someone getting a tattoo in the bar, and the staff were taking lots of pictures with flash at the bar which idk I get its for promo but it just felt a little distracting/odd/superficial? I don't hate it, but I signed up for a totalllllly different experience and had no way to know I'd get this. I never leave reviews but I had the best experience here on my birthday! My friends and I showed and they immediately accommodated all six of us by putting two tables together. Then, when the drink I wanted had an almond liqueur in it and I told them I had a nut allergy, they were kind and made it without that ingredient. Then to top it off, they brought all six of us a round of shots with a candle for my birthday!! It's also co-op owned which is so cool. We all loved it and will be coming back. I had to revive my Yelp career after seeing just a lone one star review for the resurrected Donna. TLDR before I get into it, the new vibe is cute, the food is EVEN BETTER than before, and the drinks do not miss. Bonus, the staff (who have ownership, how cool is that?!) are amazing, good hearted people. If you're looking for the original iterations of Donna, I hate to break it to you, but you'll have to keep looking. How often do establishments get to revive themselves, especially in THIS ECONOMY!? Donna 2.0 is fresh, vibrant, bright, and simple. The decor is really fun and the tables give a nod to the old era while also allowing for the new Donna to shine and thrive. Let's talk about the food and drinks. I mentioned earlier in this review that the food was better and I'm not kidding. They have a full kitchen now, and they are taking full advantage. Everything from the chips and guac to the chicken tostada was flavorful. The Spice Girls drink was my main choice and it is a drink I didn't know was missing from my life. If you remember the OG Donna, then you know about the Brancolada, which still hits a million times. The cocktails here were fantastic - the Alfarita is a personal favorite on the menu. But I came for the Brancolada, the draft cocktail that is Donna's claim to fame. It's a piña colada made with Fernet Brancamenta - very unique and it really hit the spot on the hot spring day I stopped by. The food was also delicious - I love the fried cauliflower with chorizo-spiced whipped feta. Who would think of putting such diverse ingredients together?? Truly inventive and tasty. The servers were also super warm and friendly and accommodated our questions about the menu and gave helpful recommendations. Someone in our group was slightly worried about whether the cauliflower dish was vegetarian because it has chorizo, but our server clarified that it uses chorizo spices and not chorizo meat. Came here after having dinner in the area. It's a cute, small cocktail lounge with a nice atmosphere. They sure like a strong drink, but I guess that's better than making them weak? My sister-in-law and I choked down our Pre-req and Professor Eyebrows and then decided to try something a bit more fruity because apparently we can't shoot whiskey. My sister had the one with dill and Aquafaba (looks like the menu changes because it was a little different from what's online right now) which was really good. The Brancolada was another good one, a little mild tasting. I can't remember the second drink I got but it had Venezuelan rum and was very good, just very strong.
