I am writing this review for people who find themselves struggling after cataract surgery, IOL implantation, or blepharoplasty and are being told--explicitly or implicitly--that "everything looks fine" and that they should simply wait it out and "just adapt." In my case, although the surgeries themselves were technically perfect, the repeated reassurance that my symptoms would simply go away--or that they were things no Doctors on their team had really encountered before--turned out to be completely wrong. After cataract surgery with IOL implants, I experienced severe difficulty adapting. My vision became extremely sensitive to contrast, light, color saturation, motion, and visual complexity. I suffered from what looked like shimmering or flickering images--especially in my periphery. Environments that had always felt normal suddenly became overwhelming. My ophthalmic surgeons were excellent surgeons, but they openly acknowledged that they did not have tools or training to address what I was experiencing from a neurological or visual-processing standpoint. After about a month of significant distress, I found Dr. Terry Tsang through ChatGPT--something I never expected to say--and scheduled an appointment. From the very first visit, it was clear I was in the right place. Dr. Tsang immediately recognized the constellation of symptoms I was describing. What shocked me was not that my case was uncommon--most people adapt quickly to IOLs--but that so many other clinicians had been unfamiliar with these issues at all. She was not. She understood neuro-visual adaptation, post-IOL sensory disruption, contrast sensitivity overload, and binocular coordination problems immediately. More importantly, she had the diagnostic tools, structured therapy protocols, and experienced staff to actually treat them. I attended one-hour sessions twice a week. Between visits, I was given targeted home exercises. The therapy began with very basic visual retraining and gradually increased in complexity as my system relearned what it had done automatically for more than six decades--convergence, divergence, depth perception, peripheral integration, distance and near coordination. All of these had been thrown out of sync by the sudden optical changes from surgery. The process was not emotionally easy. For a long time, I wasn't sure it would work, and the visual disruption had a real depressive effect. Dr. Tsang was consistently calm, reassuring, and precise--never dismissive, never vague, and never overly optimistic without reason. Complicating matters further, I had also undergone upper eyelid blepharoplasty. While it is often said that blepharoplasty does not affect vision, in rare cases it absolutely can. My eyelids opened significantly more--roughly 30%--which meant vastly more light and visual data entering my eyes. My brain, which had become efficient by filtering input for decades, was suddenly overwhelmed. This compounded the IOL adaptation problem and created severe neurological overload. Once again, Dr. Tsang understood exactly what was happening and adjusted treatment accordingly. Her staff deserves special mention. They are exceptionally friendly, professional, and highly competent. Being in the office was genuinely pleasant, which made the therapy far less burdensome than it could have been. After several months, the rehabilitation was complete. I am no longer suffering. My vision feels natural again. The world no longer feels visually aggressive or overwhelming. I have fully recovered. If you are struggling after cataract surgery, IOL implants, blepharoplasty, or experiencing unexplained difficulty with visual adaptation, contrast sensitivity, light sensitivity, or neurological overload--and you've been told to "just wait"--I strongly recommend Dr. Terry Tsang with complete confidence. THIS REVIEW IS FOR VISUAL SNOW TREATMENT: I first started seeing Dr Tsang in May of 2022. I'd been diagnosed with visual snow syndrome two years prior. When I had the first onset of VSS, I didn't know how I could live with the condition. I fully understood how some people on message boards said they were suicidal. I did a lot of my own research, changed my diet and had come as far as I could on my own without a lot of support or understanding from the medical community. One doctor told me I should stop searching & join an online support group. Another doctor in NY, who claims to have VSS herself, said she never met anyone who got rid of 90%of the symptoms. I am proof that this condition can go from severely detrimental to just a mere inconvenience with the right treatment. When I first got VSS, I could not see. There was a bright, loud static in front of everything. I was terrified. I was having panic attacks and fainting. The "floaters", which looked like spiders, were unbearable & nearly opaque black. As time passed, they got lighter on their own but were so persistent in my vision that I wore sunglasses to cancel them out, even indoors and especially under fluorescent lighting. After having VSS for two years, the migraines weren't as frequent, the floaters had become more translucent grey than black, and the static was faint. But I had an odd sense of confusion around spatial awareness & balance, increased grey floaters & increased static whenever I'd get sick, stressed or after receiving the Covid vaccine. I called them flare ups and once they increased, they'd hang around for around 2 months. My goal in seeing Dr Tsang was to become more resilient to flare ups, bouncing back quicker. I didn't know she would be able to make my life as good as it's gotten. After doing in-person & Zoom rehab regularly with Dr Tsang for about four months & then more infrequently for about 3 more months, I saw incredible progress. 1). Ability to bounce back to a baseline quicker after "flare ups" 2). Severely lessened appearance of floaters 3). Eliminated feeling of head pressure or fullness 4). Restored balance & spatial awareness 5). Able to go under fluorescent & sunlight w/o sunglasses. 6). Bonus: my vision & focus are crazy sharp now, so I can read much better I'm sure there are many things I'm forgetting but mainly, Dr Tsang has a program that works. It's very hard to describe because I just don't understand how it works! It just does. One of the most effective parts is the use of colored glasses worn daily for 10 minutes outdoors (I stuck my head out a window each day for months! Or sat in the yard). I think it's called Syntonic light therapy but don't quote me on that. I almost immediately stated noticing a tolerance for light that I just didn't have before & less head pressure. She incorporated a holistic approach, conditioning my body to relax while doing the eye exercises and more importantly, she gave me hope that there are ways to get better from VSS. I recently had a flare up and she sent me new glasses for a 10 day cycle where I did the light therapy with my head out the window, because I started seeing floaters again after an increase in stress around Christmas. Go straight through the first round-about, and at the second round-about make a right turn, and the building will be to your right. They're on the second floor. There are staircases on both ends of the building and an elevator lobby in the middle of the building. There's a sanitizer as you enter the office. My daughter hit her eye on furniture while we were abroad and of course, the first-time parents in us were freaking out. I yelped "best pediatric optometrist" in Irvine and found Dr. Tsang. I made an appointment to see her as soon as we got back, and we had a wonderful experience. The front office was excellent. First, they scan all their documents in, so their forms are laminated and you use a dry-erase marker. I appreciate saving trees. Dr. Tsang came out to greet us and took us back into the exam room earlier than our appointment time, and her bedside manner with a squirmy, 14 month old was awesome! I have been seeing optometrists for 14+ years and Dr. Tsang is my absolute favorite. She diagnosed me with esophoria (which explained my trouble with reading/studying in college) and which no previous optometrist had ever bothered to test for! Since this diagnosis, I have loved reading again and can spend longer on a computer. Dr Tsang's vision therapy also increased my comfort on a day to day basis. My two kids came here for Ortho-k lenses, and this would've been our third year if they didn't hike the price ridiculously. It almost double what you pay in some other offices. When we asked for our prescription for transfer, Ruby said their price was at the lower end and could charge 2000 for it!? The ortho-k wasn't invented yesterday! Then she dragged on to give our records. First, It took almost a month to have our prescription mailed from Irvine to Irvine! Then when we requested our corneal measurements, Ruby said they measured them and the records belong to them!! The new office should measure it themselves! Without those records, my kids have to start as the first-year users, and there's huge price difference. After I told her that patients had right to their own info, she said she had to ask Doc Tsang if she could give it to me. I called two other offices, and they said they never heard of this problem; under HIPPA, they have to release the patients info if they ask for it. The second day when I asked Ruby if she had a license, and if she knew HIPPA. She denied her words! She said the same thing to my friend when she refused to giver my friend her kids' records. Ruby told my friend to pick up the info herself; otherwise it would take a long time to mail it!! Dishonest, greedy, and super unprofessional! Stay away from the office!! read more

This is a very excellent vision therapy program. Not only does Dr. Tsang take a holistic approach to treating your symptoms, she's very perceptive at noticing how your body reacts to the exercise and gives you small adjustments that make a world of difference. I went there for 3 months to get treatment for vision problems stemming from a mild traumatic brain injury, and for the first time my body started to show recovery. I improved with eye tracking, convergence, visual memory, and reintegrating my senses. So it's easier for me read, deal with overcrowded pages, drive, and multitask. My insurance didn't cover the treatment, saying it is not a recognized practice. But after I read about it in my school magazine (https://stanfordmag.org/contents/the-5-types-of-concussions) and simultaneously got recommendations from my neurologist at UCSD and the Scripps brain injury program, I decided to give it a try. It was well worth it, and I am glad that the rates at their office were manageable. Dr. Tsang gives you weekly homework, which are really helpful. Don't feel bad if you find it hard to do some of them. Instead discuss it with her and she will give you an easier version until your body works up to the harder excercises. Dr. Tsang and her office are wonderful! I visited Dr. Tsang weekly for over 3 months as a vision therapy patient. I went to her for post-traumatic vision syndrome following a head injury (TBI). I had many weird symptoms, and she was incredibly kind and thoughtful every step of the way. Every week, we would do an in-house vision therapy session, and I would be assigned "homework" to do every day to ensure that my progress continued. She helped make the homework enjoyable but a good challenge. Vision problems post brain injury (and I imagine developmental problems as well) take time to recover, and Dr. Tsang was always patient and confident. She celebrated the little accomplishments along the way. Over the 3 month period, I've felt less dizzy in crowds, had fewer headaches, been less fatigued, and have started reading for pleasure! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Tsang for vision therapy. I was an adult patient, but I can tell that she is also very patient and prepared to work with children. My brother who has a rare condition called visual snow went out to California this past August through October 2022 for treatment with Dr. Tsang. He was and still is in desperate need of help since this condition is so debilitating. We are from North Carolina and him and my mother DROVE all the way across the country for this treatment because there are only 2 doctors highly recommended to help treat this condition. Between Air BNB's, Hotels, gas, food, and paying for treatment, they easily spent over 20,000 dollars. Unfortunately, the treatment is not what my brother was expecting. He saw Dr. Tsang maybe 2-3 times and the rest of the time had to deal with her 20 year old assistant. The assistant acted clueless on what was next in the sessions, leading my brother feeling extremely let down, hopeless, and like he wasn't important. She is very knowledgeable about the latest contact lenses and glasses. (I wear glasses over contacts.) She spends the time to listen and understand my concerns, and explains clearly the available options. Judy who has 9 years experience with vision therapy at Dr. Ryan's office also joined the staff. Judy was very helpful in picking out a frame for my glasses, and taking the measurements for the glasses. The office has a warm and welcoming feel, and seems to operate very efficiently. Before my first appointment at the new office, I received a confirmation email with a link to an online form. All the information that I entered on the form prior to my appointment was accessible by Dr. Tsang and Judy on their computers. So, as soon as I arrived, they could get started with my exam. She has been overseeing (yes, there's a pun there) my eye care for over six years, and she possesses the perfect combination of attitude, intelligence and expertise. In Dec of 2020 I started seeing Dr. Tsang after I heard she could help alleviate some symptoms for a neurological disorder (visual snow) I had been diagnosed around that time. Little did know that most of my neurological disorder symptoms had in a way been affected by another eye condition that I had got months prior that completely threw my visual system off therefore not only affecting my vision but also my brain and how it processed things. Dr. Tsang used visual exercises to help retrain my eyes to work more functionally and therefore help calm my brain down. I could not see correctly mind you I had 20/20 vision, therefore making feel vulnerable and unable to function at the time. Fast forward 10 mos later and I have been able to regain most of my visual capacity with little to no effort. Although this may sound weird I went from having double vision, poor accommodation, extreme light sensitivity, convergence and divergence issues, after images, ghosting, static to most of those symptoms completely gone away or gone down to a point that they are no longer that bothersome. Dr. Tsang gave me a part of my life that I would have never thought I would ever get back. I have now been able to return back to work and feel like I'm able to function. Therefore, if you're experiencing any visual problems and especially if you have visual snow I would highly recommend Dr. Tsang as she knows what she's doing. Dr. Tsang is the best eye doctor we've met. My daughter has visual functional and visual-perceptual difficulties in eye movement control and focusing due her eye teaming ability. Dr. Tsang provided vision therapy sessions to develop the necessary visual abilities. She is always smiling, friendly chatting, and with lot communication between patient and parents. My 6 years old daughter loves to meet Dr. Tsang for weekly office treatment. She is very happy and enjoyed all the practice performing during the visiting. We have moved here few years ago. Since then we have very interesting experiences with the doctors in O.C. We started to believe that doctors in the Southern California are mainly for profits until we met Dr. Terry Tsang. Dr. Terry Tsang is one the best eye doctors in all aspects: her bed-time manner, through exams, medical expertise, experience.. etc. In March 2019, our 14-year-old daughter had a special condition which required Dr. Tsang's attention. Dr. Tsang told my girl to call her if my girl really needs help. It was almost midnight when my daughter decided to call her, we thoughts Dr. Tsang was about to walk through the process over the phone with my girl; instead Dr. Tsang drove to our house around midnight over the weekend to help my girl. I am SUPER picky about my glasses and they were the most helpful place I've been to all over Irvine. They had multiple people helping pick out glasses that both were comfortable and looked good on my face. I'm an adult but have a small head so the large selection of kids and petite adult frames was great!
