We were excited to try this place. It has a great menu. But we came in at 6 pm after a pretty hard rain which closed the outside seating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat at the bar and the place was busy but not packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bartender told the older couple next to us that she had to attend to her servers and that she'd get to them. Not a great start. She wasn't very nice. I understand being busy but a kind I'm sorry for the wait I'll be right with you goes a long way. We sat at the bar to watch the soccer game but the bar TV's had women's softball and my husband asked nicely saying we are going to drink and eat dinner but would like to see the game. Her answer was one thing at a time. What do you want to drink. My husband said we'd like to look at the menu. Then about 20 people were seated and we knew this wasn't going to be a great experience and left. Thought better of waiting and having attitude. I was in the mood for corn beef but didn't want a Ruben so I ordered a corned beef sandwich with butter & mustard. My wife ordered a Ruben and when they came out mine was not toasted...cold...horrible. The villager pub is a classic American restaurant. The food is good and the service is typically spectacular. It's mostly a nostalgia trip for me when I go. But this recent trip proved to be a little disappointing. Our service was great, but the food this time was a bit lackluster. We ordered the mozzarella wedges and Mac n cheese bites. Unfortunately, not really worth the stop. Only great thing was the service; the waitresses all seemed very friendly, and ours regularly checked in on us. I also liked some of the decor, but you could tell it was short-staffed. They have a limited selection menu due to staffing issues as well. We got two appetizers that were both $10 and just kind of subpar. The mac and cheese nuggets seemed like the kind you can buy at the store yourself and then microwave (but the store bought ones are probably better). Other things such as the fries just tasted stale. Nothing truly great but also not outright offensive. They keep the door open, so there was a fly buzzing around our table for the majority of our meal. Wasn't the most appetizing when it kept aiming for our plates. The bathrooms are downstairs and also not well-kept. It's very dark down there accompanied by an odd smell. Would recommend finding somewhere else on the street to eat. read more

Wow, not even sure where to begin; beginning to wonder if there's a single restaurant in this town worth eating anymore. To start with, our party of 10 was ecstatic to be seated within a timely manner. We literally jumped off the benches with glee. But that excitement was short-lived. We were seated in a main dining room window where we got front row seats to an all.out knock down drag out brawl in the middle of the street as the owner physically assaulted a woman and her two young teenage sons. The owner was screaming in her face when he was trying to talk with him in a reasonable manner. The young man stepped up and said, "do not speak to my mom that way", and the owner belligerently bellowed, 'what are YOU gonna do about it", indicating that he wanted to fight with the kid. The next thing you know, the owner Terry is throwing food and flinging dishes everywhere, breaking them. When one of his staff tried cleaning the mess he berated her and threw the broom like an insolent child. We felt bad for the staff inside that he also berated in front patrons! As far a the food goes, the menu consists of hotdogs and whitefish, it's pretty limited, but you can get a seat, if you're willing to be within the hot tempered owners reach. read more

Very nice Pub and our waitress was the best. My chicken salad sandwich with grapes and onions was so delicious. The soups were also homemade and the best. The pub was clean and everybody was friendly. Our waitress took the time to tell us great places to visit and truly felt she made us feel welcomed to the establishment. My sister and I stopped to eat here for a quick bite, we weren't very hungry so we decided to just split a fish sandwich. The waitress seemed a bit judgmental on us wanting to split a sandwich. Once she realized we were only ordering one thing she basically ignored our table the rest of the time, didn't refill our drinks and at the end asked if we also wanted to split the check on the one sandwich. The fish was fine, the service wasn't our favorite. Long, wordy, and expressive take: I had a golf trip to Boyne Highlands. Flew into Traverse City. Myself and 3 friends played golf that morning, drove through Char and I yelled out "we have to stop in small town America!!!" So we did at this random "pub" It was the essence of America. There is an amphitheater across from it. Beautiful bay and dock and boats across. My friends and I just loved it. It just felt comforting. We came from Louisiana and randomly came across this place. They have race car murals on the walls, the most beautiful ceilings, awesome people working there. We ordered local beers, I got the fattest fireball shot. Then we ordered wings and chicken sandwich and a burgers, a fish soup. Food was great. Service and the vibe were so great. Local establishments like this are what make small towns great. I will tell any and everyone to stop by this establishment. It makes you feel connected. Cannot shout from the rooftops more about how great the villager pub was read more

This place was a gym. First, our service, Sheila was amazing. She accommodated our every wish, she was professional, and funny. If you were lucky enough to get Sheila to serve, you tip her very well she deserves it. Beyond that the food was very good. My husband had the white fish and said it was excellent. OMG! This is the place to get your fish and chips fix!!! We never miss a whitefish or walleye meal when we are up north and this one is one of my faves! We rented the cabin from a nice, older gentleman, Tom, who told us he meets his buddies here every Wednesday and recommended the fish and chips. I am so glad we listened to him, lol. We ordered a 3-pc walleye and a 3-pc whitefish dinner, approx $40 altogether, which I thought would be too much for two people but we ate it all. They have a good set up during this pandemic with many takes outside, wrapping around the corner. We ordered take out and they had it ready in 15 minutes, complete with cole slaw, tartar, vinegar and ketch up included. Delicious! Waitstaff was incredibly friendly. Great location. The chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese and cheeseburger were all a hit.

Had two experiences here over the course of a few days. The first stop in we were able to get an outdoor spot, and had a great waitress. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. The second trip we made there, was kind of out of desperation, as a lot of the other places were closed for some reasons. The manager was extremely rude when I tried asking how long the wait was. I had also heard him being rude to the hostesses the night before. I wouldn't go back. read more

Food was good but service was the real shining star. We were attended to very promptly after seating. Cocktail orders and ice water came quickly. The waitress, Emily was absolutely perfect in her demeanor, timing, efficiency and level of attentiveness! We both had the fish chowder and split a fried zucchini appetizer. All was good.
