I love a good spicy marg (and I also love Calabrian chili oil) but should warn that this one is *actually* spicy! This wasn't quite the spicy marg that I was going for. However, the pizza was delicious! The crust was so soft and fluffy, and despite eating a majority of the pizza, it didn't sit heavy. I loved the prosciutto, mushroom and truffle oil combination. My boyfriend also loved his pizza and the crust, but I would add that this isn't the meat lovers pizza spot (obviously the menu is Italian but I think we were still surprised there wasn't at least one option or additional toppings). The food is mixed. I have had the fish, pizza, and pasta. The pizza is very good. The appetizers are just ok, the salads are mix, the fish is mediocre and the pastas are just ok. The risotto was reasonable. So again a lot of variability in the quality and quantity. Lightly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette instead of the typical heavy Caesar dressing. Chicken was nicely grilled and not too tough or dry. Very enjoyable. * Short Rib Ravioli - Pasta was good, and the short rib filling was tender and tasty, but a bit on the salty side. * Grilled Branzino Filet over fregola (like a pearl pasta). Very good. * Desserts - The table shared a few different desserts. My favorite was the Chocolate Torte... good quality chocolate. Warm and moist but not runny like a chocolate lava cake. I brought my parents here for dinner, and unfortunately, our experience with the service was very disappointing. At one point, I asked one of the servers for two cups of hot water for my parents. He gave me a look of apparent annoyance and walked away. We waited for quite a while, but the hot water never came. Eventually, our assigned server came over and immediately brought us the hot water without any issue. Throughout the rest of the meal, however, the service felt very different from what I observed with other customers. Our server was polite but very expressionless and seemed to simply go through the motions--taking our order, serving the food, and bringing the check. He never asked if we wanted dessert, while we noticed other tables receiving much warmer and more engaging service. We ended up ordering dessert ourselves later. I couldn't help but feel that we were treated differently, possibly because my parents don't speak English. I noticed the staff being much more friendly, conversational, and welcoming with other customers. As an immigrant family whose parents may not speak English, this experience was particularly uncomfortable and disappointing. If you are in a similar situation, I would not recommend this restaurant based on our experience. I had high hopes for this place because several people had recommended it to me. I'm not sure if it lived up to the hype. The red beets gnocchi was delicious. The signature pink color was super fun, and it tasted rich and creamy. There was plenty of taleggio and gorgonzola, so it was a cheese lover's dream. The porcini pizza, on the other hand, was not as stellar. I was really excited for the truffle oil, and there was a fragrant flavor. However, the porcini mushrooms were unexpectedly cold, and as a result, a bit slimy. The pizza itself did not have much flavor outside of the truffle oil, and the crust was quite cold and hard. In general, the pizza was not the most pleasant thing to eat. I have heard lots of good things about this place, so I would come back and try some other dishes. read more

Logistically, the setup works well as there's a decent-sized parking lot right behind the restaurant, and they offer outdoor seating with heaters, which is great during the winter months. Johani was our host for the evening, and he did an amazing job throughout. He was attentive, thoughtful, and professional, and handled the table well. A small but very appreciated detail: when I ordered dessert to go, he kindly packed the fresh berries separately from the panna cotta so the liquid wouldn't make it soggy a level of care that didn't go unnoticed. Unfortunately, the evening didn't start on the best note. One of the first dishes brought out farro and calamari had a housefly in it, which was clearly off-putting. To their credit, the staff replaced the dish promptly, but it wasn't the best way to kick off a team dinner. This was a two-course meal plus dessert. My friend and I visited on a Saturday night recently, and surprisingly there wasn't much people. We've seen this place on yelp so many times and was excited to try. We sat down and ordered a San Daniele pizza and a Lasagne. Our orders came like 5 minutes after we order which we were very shocked about. Then realized the pizza and lasagne was pretty much just lukewarm. Lasagne was pretty salty and didn't have much depth in flavor. The pizza was also a bit disappointing as it was kind of dry and we wished the flavors of the ingredient blended well together. It seemed like they just threw the ingredients on baked it for a minute and gave it to us. Our food ended up being cold 10 minutes in. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and they were so nice to have given us a Creme Brûlée on the house. The servers are so nice and sweet. Not sure if I would ever come back. The table next to us had a large group gathering, which added to the noise, but there wasn't much we could do. We ordered calamari to start, two pizzas, two pastas, a sparkling red wine I saw recommended on Yelp, and a beer. The food arrived fairly quickly. * Calamari: Really good, with some tentacles included, which I liked best. I would give it 4 out of 5. * Tri-Color Pizza: Thin crust, crispy, and no soggy bottom. Definitely 5 out of 5. * Porcino Mushroom Pizza: Also very good. I would give it 5 out of 5. * Risotto of the Day: The flavor was excellent, 5 out of 5, but the rice was a little too al dente for me, so I would rate it 4 out of 5. My husband really enjoyed it and finished the whole dish. * Rigatoni Pasta: It was okay, not bad but not memorable, so I would give it 3 out of 5. * Tiramisu: 3 out of 5 this time. Terun Pizza is a quaint restaurant on cal ave that offers pizza, pasta and Italian entrees. We came to Terun on a Tuesday night and they were able to seat us immediately. The dinner crowd came and the indoor and outdoor seating filled up pretty quickly. The ambience is okay a little too dark and the indoor seating felt cramped. The food was unfortunately nothing to write home about. I felt like it was incredibly overpriced for the quality of the dishes. The pizza was not crispy and had the texture of it, needing to be cooked for a bit longer because the dough had a raw consistency the calamari was breaded well and they actually gave a lot of squid for an appetizer, but it was incredibly salty like you cannot even eat one piece without chugging a glass of water the raviolis were probably on the taste your side of what we ate. They did get our order wrong so we did actually end up getting to try two types of raviolis. The truffle was probably the tastiest. It was the most balance, not over salted, and the ravioli dough had a nice al dente, but for the ravioli, short ribs, the pasta was way too thin, so the ravioli was breaking in the short rib on the inside was also incredibly salty. I know that Italian food tends to be actually super salty in Italy. I just wasn't expecting it at this restaurant specifically So in that aspect it is authentic in that aspect. The service was great though everyone was super kind, and the bathrooms were incredibly clean. There are tables around the bathroom, though, which when people go in and out, kind of ruins, the dinner due to the smell. I think Terun can be a hit or miss. We went on a Saturday night recently at 5ish and was lucky to score a table. In the past we have gone and the tables have all been reserved. The good - some very friendly servers. My kid asked for candy and they brought him a big jar of candy to choose from. Throughout dinner, he would intermittently get up and find the servers to ask for random candy or straws, and they were so sweet and nice about it. Food also came out fast - win! The meh - Terun pizza was super soggy and the cheese kept on falling off! This caused a lot of distress for the kids as they just wanted to eat the pizza like a pizza slice. Subsequently, kid bit himself lol while trying to eat his pizza after we just sprinkled parmasean on it, and this caused even more distress! Bolognese pasta was a win - both kids devoured this. Cauliflower gratin (we tried something new this time) - unfortunately was not a hit with the kids. It was so-so to the adults. Creme brulee dessert was a win for everyone. Wish they would bring out smaller spoons and plates when serving dessert though. Overall, would we go back? Maybe if we are in the area. Will stick to the pasta. We usually make a reservation and sit in their back patio, which can be a bit noisy sometimes as there are larger groups or celebrations going on, but we don't really mind. The Terun pizza has cured spicy sausage that is crispy, greasy, and packed with flavor; just how I want my pepperoni/sausage to be like in my pizza. We also tried the farro and calamari and appreciated how the server confirmed with us that this dish wasn't deep-fried but grilled. You can think of it like a bell pepper orzo with soft calamari; it was different but really good. Here is also where I tried Lambrusco wine for the first time. It's basically a sparkling red wine, and let me just say, I have converted ever since. I always seek this out wherever I go, but have found that Terun offers the best Lambrusco selection. terun is one of those places i keep coming back to because it is consistently comforting and good. we ordered the margherita pizza, beet gnocchi, and branzino. the pizza and gnocchi are my go-to dishes, and they never disappoint. the beet gnocchi, in particular, feels like ultimate comfort food and is rich and satisfying without being heavy. the sea bass was simply prepared and nicely balanced. we had a bottle of the rhyton cab 2022. the wine was good, but it was probably not the best pairing for what we ordered. for dessert, we had the tiramisu and panna cotta. i always love the tiramisu here. the panna cotta was good as well, though it was a bit sweeter than my preference. overall, it is easy, cozy, and reliable italian food that is hard not to love. read more

We visited Terun Pizza for my friend's birthday dinner on a Wednesday evening. I think she had made a reservation in advance (it was pretty busy), and we were seated in the outdoor dining area out front. This was basically just a white tent with some string lights. Maybe the indoors was cuter, but I didn't get a chance to peek inside. For drinks, I got the Passion Sour (zero proof), which was just okay. This might sound silly due to the name, but it was honestly too sour for me. We also ordered the Focaccia and Burrata to share for the table, which were both wonderful. I especially loved the soft Burrata on top of grilled eggplant. Our other shared appetizer, the Brussels Sprouts, were less impressive - big portion size but not crispy enough. For my entree, I chose the Gnocchi. Terun is definitely more of a pizza spot, but all of the meat pizzas were pork (which I don't eat), and the rest just weren't speaking to me. I was super curious about the beet Gnocchi though! The beets turned out to be only for the pink coloring and not for the taste, which was probably for the best. The texture of the Gnocchi was great and I liked the creamy sauce, although it was pretty heavy. My friends enjoyed their San Daniele and Porcini pizzas and the Rigatoni. Came here for a birthday and was shockingly disappointed, especially after all the hype surrounding this restaurant. The ambiance on a random Wednesday night was overwhelming--a very loud band was playing, and I could barely hear the person next to me, let alone gather my thoughts. Their wine selection wasn't bad; we ended up choosing a Napa Cab. For starters, I'd recommend the bruschetta and prosciutto--it was coated in some kind of delicious crumb and had great flavor. Beyond that, though, the food didn't stand out. The lasagna was the only other dish worth noting. I ordered one of their specials, and it was very mediocre, the risotto to be specific. Even the pizza, which they're apparently known for, wasn't particularly exciting. One thoughtful touch: the band sang happy birthday toward the end of the evening. Came here a month after we went to Impasto (yeah yeah - went backwards since Terun is the OG) but I still wanted to try Terun and Palo Alto was a good middle point to meet my GFs. We went for lunch and sadly - NO FOCACCIA... sadness but I understand - seems the chef who makes it went to Impasto so need to go to Impasto for the Focaccia... Ok back to Terun - One of my GFs got the margherita pizza and she was very happy with it. It didn't look as soggy in the middle as the one we had at Impasto so am wondering if that was a one off thing? Again - great flavors and nice thinner crust. For their specials they had paninis so some of my GFs ordered the vegetarian panini and the salmon panini. These panini's came with sweet potato fries and their delicious salad - so filling and delicious. Definitely couldn't finish it all so take home boxes came out. I got their grilled romaine as I was heading out to a dinner party later that day - and I was surprised at how half of the grilled romaine was so filling - had to box my other half for later. I can't remember our server's name, but she was amazing, and so was the entire staff. I think this is a nice spot if you're in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way. Come on a weekend when the farmer's market is going on and you can enjoy people watching while sitting at their front patio. Park in the public lot on Sherman Ave for free and the restaurant is just a short walk away. This spot is definitely pricey but they've got an interesting selection of pizzas. I really liked this mix of spicy calabrese salami and zucchini. While the pizza was good, I would've preferred for it to be served a bit warmer and I think it could've used a few more minutes in the oven. The zucchini was still crunchy and didn't taste cooked all the way through. I would come back again if I was visiting the other shops or events happening near University Ave. Service was fine and the pizza itself wasn't bad. There are definitely just a few tweaks to make this a 5 star experience worth the pricing. read more

I've never had a bad meal at Terún, and today was no exception. The calamari and farro was simple, thoughtful, and perfectly balanced--very tender calamari, nutty farro, and bright, clean flavors that didn't try too hard. The menu isn't enormous, but that's part of the point: everything they do is done well. The thin-crust pizza in particular is always excellent. I'd like to first off give a big thank you to Maico, one of the owners of the restaurant. He provided excellent hospitality and treated me and my co workers like family. He took the time to get to know us a bit which we enjoyed. He's such a kind person with lots of enthusiasm. We ordered two pizzas and a pasta: Scialatielli pasta, Terun and Schiacciata pizzas. The ingredients are fresh and the flavors are very authentic; it reminded me of my trip to Italy. The Terun pizza had this creamy mozzarella with San Marzano tomato sauce and cured sausage. The sausage tasted unique and had this smoky taste like no other. The Schiaccita consists of 24mo aged prosciutto, burrata, and olive oil. This pizza was unique because the crust is like a fluffy-crisp dough. Both pizzas paired beautifully with chili oil and chili peppers. We enjoyed the Scialatielli pasta which is homemade pasta, porcini, and grana padano cheese with mushrooms. This tasted so delicious! Maico gifted us with their Frittelle; fried pizza dough and porchetta meat! This was excellent and makes a fabulous appetizer. By the end of our meal, Maico made us each a macchiato which did the job. Their coffee beans are great! The espresso is creamy and has a nice chocolate-nutty taste. They must be premium roasted espresso beans. We love the atmosphere and customer service here. It's a beautiful restaurant with a modern twist of interior decor.
