I can with a large group and everything was ordered family style. This was definitely the best way to dine here as the flavors are so diverse and so full. Sadly, this experience didn't live up to the hype in my mind. Came here over the weekend to celebrate a birthday. Spot was lively, and we seated immediately with a reservation. We waited quite a while before our server came who didn't even introduce himself and just went straight to asking for our order. Luckily, our food came out well paced. Apps - calamari (fishy), focaccia (airy and light), burrata and beet salad (good) and the carne crudo (tasty). Dinner included the octopus, rigatoni amatriciana, fettuccini and the tortelloni zucca. These were all well prepared except I didn't care for the tortelloni, the squash was a bit too sweet for my taste. Went with a friend to celebrate her birthday early on a Saturday night. The hostess attitude was dismal. Once we were seated, the waiter came and asked about drinks and since there were limited cocktails on the menu, I asked if they had any fruit martinis other than lemon (pomegranate, etc). He looked like he didn't understand the question and then served a word salad without producing a "yes/no" answer so I just ordered something else. It gave the feel of no effort given at all to learn what is being served at the restaurant. I was a server for 11 years so it was disappointing to say the least. I had it on the list of sending my team to for a future dinner so I'm glad I checked it out first. There are so many restaurants that deliver a great dining experience in this area that it would be a shame for this place to close because management just doesn't care or pay attention. Solid 4. 75 Stars We had such a memorable dining experience at Che Fico that we're already planning our next dinner date there. This place is super trendy and popular with tons of positive vibes. I love the energy from the staff and smiles on their faces. Dishes were delectable and well presented. Started wth a Caesar Salad. Fresh Romaine lettuce and a tangy dressing with Anchovies. Followed by the Focaccia loaf. Buttery and flaky to the last bite. The Octopus and potatoes were slathered in a lemon Aioli garlic sauce and cooked just perfect. My Chicken Parmesan was packed with flavor covered in a rich Marinara and melted cheese. We finished with a sweet and crunchy Cannoli and Gelato/Sorbet Swirl. Sat at the bar and had a couple drinks with our meal and had excellent service from the bartender. I highly recommend you make reservations a day or so before hand as this place is popular. The menu is a bit pricey, but your are served quality food and fantastic service in a cozy and modern restaurant. Second time around one week later... We enjoyed the same Focaccia, Steak Tartare aka Carne Cruda. A lovely and well seasoned pasta and a Halibut to die for! read more

My best friend treated me to a belated birthday dinner here this past Saturday evening. We arrived from having predinner drinks and a few small bites from RH and I was slightly concerned that we would not be able to fit much more in our bellies to get a well rounded experience from Che Fico. This Peninsula location is unfortunately right on busy El Camino in Menlo Park. However this location has a very convenient underground parking garage. I don't know the exact prices or fees for parking but we arrived at 6:45 PM and left at 8:30 PM without having to pay for parking. We ordered 2 tequila Paloma spritz cocktails which arrived fairly quickly. The Polpo Arrosto was the unanimous favorite. The octopus was so tender and moist. And the complimentary tomatillo salsa verde was surprisingly delightful. The clam calzone was a show stopper obviously. I am not a sourdough girlie but THIS sourdough was ridiculous. We kept tearing off crispy pieces and dipping it on the clam sauce. Every table and even the bar were occupied on this particular evening. The restaurant was filled with such good "catching up" energy. I especially liked the indoor/outdoor patio area. They did a great job at designing this space. The decor was loud but in a very good way. It made me happy looking at the pink and green wallpaper and pink glass chandeliers while sipping my cocktail and tearing apart the clam calzone. This place is absolutely amazing. My husband and I had such a delicious dinner and truly enjoyed every part of the experience. The ambiance is beautiful, very vibey and perfect for a date night. From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch. The team was welcoming at the entrance, and our server was incredible, so knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely attentive throughout the night. They stayed on top of everything, from clearing the table to refilling our water without us ever needing to ask. Now, the food... outstanding. The focaccia was so good, we could've easily had another round. We ordered the gnocchi and the rigatoni amatriciana both were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. To finish, we had the vanilla and blood orange swirl with sea salt and olive oil, which was the perfect sweet-and-savory ending to a lovely evening. I've heard a lot of rave reviews about the SF location, so figured I'd give the much-closer-to-me Menlo Park location a shot for a girls night. Easy to make reservations via open table (probably my favorite thing to come out of the pandemic was that more restaurants now take reservations). We were on the covered outdoor patio and that is my only reason for retracting a star. The first table that they put us at was so exposed and cold, not really covered at all. The table they moved us to was perfect - between two heaters - but the back left seat was partially obscured by the heater so once I got in the seat, I could not move the rest of the night until we left! Anyway, besides that, the rest of the night was pretty great. Service was quick and helpful. We talked to the sommelier about wine recommendations and ended up ordering a delightful red that was so good, we got a second bottle! For food, we started with the gardiniera, burrata, and calamari. All were delicious with good flavors. The calamari was well cooked and not chewy. The gardiniera was my favorite! Onto mains - we selected the mushroom and sausage pizza and the radiatore pasta. The pizza was good, had a little spice to it! But the pasta - oh my goodness. Amazing. The radiatore is my favorite pasta because of how it holds the sauce and this was a sauce to be held! I could have eaten the whole plate myself! We left stuffed, satisfied, and very happy. It was a Friday night and we actually ended up being the last ones there! They were really gracious and didn't rush us at all. I would definitely come back here for the food, wine, and service and hopefully get a table that actually seats 4! read more

Had my bday dinner here and it did not disappoint! Service was top notch, our waiter was super attentive and kept it fun. We got the lasagna and radiatori pasta to start followed by the pork chop and salmon. The pastas were great and I loved the texture and creaminess of the radiatori with the spice from the calabrian chilis and the lasagna was one of the better ones I've had with burnt edges and gooey in the middle. But for me the standout was the pork chop with butter beans. The perfect amount of seasoning and savoriness, balanced with the sweetness and creaminess of the butter beans. That dish had it all! Adorable restaurant in downtown Menlo Park. Our party of six was seated in their back room which is more intimate and beautifully decorated. Marcia provided excellent service... so personable, and very attentive. Delightful experience, in all. We arrived on the tail end of Happy Hour, so opted for a couple of spritzers to start off while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. They were light and refreshing, presented with a beautiful garnish. Their menu is small, but mighty. We opted for a family style way of dining, moving on to share a plethora of dishes, including appetizers, mains, and three desserts. Their wine list is quite extensive, but corkage is available as well if you'd like to bring a bottle with you. Everything was delicious, and all were equally pleased given our selections. One small quib would be the lack of offering focaccia to accompany the pulled mozzarella. We had to inquire, and had to wait while the slightly warm ball of delicious mozzarella cooled down. Although priced separately, it would be a nice suggestion given the nature of pulled mozzarella lacking an accompaniment. The budino was absolutely sinful. Top five desserts in life to date. I also learnt during one of my visits that the chef goes to the farmer's market to get fresh produce/ingredients with his daughter which is so sweet. I ate dinner here with my extended family. It is in the new east side development of El Camino Real in Menlo Park. There is a very nice garden and open space in front of the restaurant. The setup was nice and we sat outside although it was somewhat cold. The server was very competent and the general experience was good. It was on the pricer side. Quality - 4 Quantity- 4 Presentation - 4 Taste - 5 Aroma 5 Appetizer - 4 Service - 5 Parking - 4 Atmosphere - 4 Selection - 4 Alcohol - 3 - limited and pricey Dessert - 4 Value - 2 The server pushed the experience from a 3 to 3.5 but the value was just not there. This is a place where staying home might have been better given the price. Again, there are crazy expensive places that are life experiences - see some of my other reviews - this was not crazy expensive, but just enough to make the only thing I really remember about it is the price. read more

Che Fico is gorgeous, the service is lovely, and I really wanted this to be a home run. Instead, our $450 dinner for four (no wine!) left us more confused than satisfied. Calamari: Fishy in a "should we send this back?" way. Pork Chop: Shockingly rough--my knife and I are still in recovery. Meatball Spaghetti: One single meatball that tasted straight out of Spaghetti Factory, plus an extra charge just to add pasta. Margherita Pizza: Totally fine, but not memorable. Beet Salad: The MVP of the night--bright, flavorful, and easily the best dish. Truffle Pasta ($86): The biggest disappointment. Mostly cream, with truffle so faint it felt like it RSVP'd and never showed. Beautiful space, wonderful staff, but the food missed the mark for the price. 2 stars--come for the ambiance and beet salad, but maybe skip the truffle adventure. read more

Monday night birthday celebration, thinking it would be a little quieter but it was hopping and quite busy in the courtyard. Fried Halibut - good size croquettes with a aioli which described as spicy but a little light in flavor as well as the seasoning on the fish. Caesar Salad- generous portion and plenty of "snow" parmigiano covering the lettuce sprigs. More on the acidic side in flavor but enjoyed the briny anchovies. Triangoli- 7 to 8 pieces of pillowy triangular rav's that were cheesy and balanced with the sweet corn and mushroom toppings sitting a top a buttery sauce. Octopus- good sized cuts of 2 tentacles nicely charred but unfortunately more chewy than I prefer as well as the salsa verde had more citrus and acid for my taste but the yukon potatoes accompaniment were excellent. Salmon- great sear on the skin and cooked perfectly as well as the juicy tomato relish pairing made a nice balance of sweet and savory. Service was fine, and a nice atmosphere with the outdoor seating and noise level so will make another visit to check out the pizzas. Just be aware that the price points are conducive to the Menlo park neighborhood. read more

Pros: management is first class as they checked in when/where their staff was seriously lacking. Nice patio area. Cons: staff is undertrained, you have a 90 min timer to eat and leave, tables are crowded together. Food is expensive and imo not as good as the SF local. IE: 1 qty pizza, tap water and 2 qty glasses of their small pour glasses of their lower priced wine = $90+. Also, please offer ALL 3 options for water---not just the still or flat (which is charged), include the "tap" OR at least alert ppl there is a charge--as we noted, they do the same "trick" at the SF location as well. Had their sausage/pepper pizza which had incredible and delicious flavor, however super soggy crust yet burnt tasting... Would most likely skip if given the opportunity to go again. read more

Whether you dine inside or on their patio, the atmosphere/vibe is modern, reminding one of the experience of dining in an European city. The staff here is friendly, very knowledgeable of their offerings, and attentive to your modifications, etc. You can dine here at your own pace, with the staff never rushing you to finish any of your courses. Now, on to the review of their food and the reason for the 3 star rating... - Complimentary/house bread: Not offered. - Focaccia: Not your traditional version. It needed salt and herb (rosemary, etc.). It was more of a toasted loaf. - Tonno Crudo: Very heavy handed with the Meyer Lemon to the point where the tuna got lost. - Agnolotti Dal Plin: Good tasting but a bit small in portion. - Fusilli Lunghi: Good balance of flavors and a generously portioned dish. - Ananas: This was supposed to be their signature dish. This may be true for their San Francisco location, but not here. While the dough was perfectly cooked, the pizza barely had any of the star attraction (pineapple). It tasted more of a spicy cheese pizza. We asked one of the servers if the pizza was missing the pineapple; we were told that it was shaved very thinly. - Melanzana: Good tasting eggplant dish. - Value: IMHO the price of admission was a bit too high for what we ordered. read more

Went to the new Che Fico location in Menlo Park for Valentine's Day on a rainy night. They had a Prix Fixe menu that was slightly upgraded from their normal menu. The focaccia and marinara was a great starter. Very delicate texture for a rustic bread. The citrus salad, oysters and crab Louie lettuce wedges were all nicely done. The beet fritters were not as big of a hit with either our table or the friendly diners at the table next to us. Of the remaining courses, there was a vegetarian lasagna that was comprised of mostly spinach, mushroom and cheese. The duck was seared with a machaca-style duck on the side. I probably enjoyed the lobster agnolotti in crab broth most. The pasta was slippery and really easy to chew. Full of crustaceanic flavor in each bite. The dessert was a flop for me. The chocolate cake had bit of jagged walnuts which were also in the small cookie that was offered as well. They did a number on my gums. The texture of the cake was flat and tasted just like a plain chocolate cake. I would say that the value of the meal at $195 per person wasn't worth the price. It was hard not to feel a little remorse about spending as much as we would have at the excellent omakase at Robin around the block. I would, however, like to return to try their regular menu of pizzas and pastas and will update my review once I get to try it. Perhaps there will be some redemption then. Don't know if it was because of the rain, but there were ladybugs crawling all over the seat cushions and water splattering on me after bouncing off the awning. Made it a bit difficult to enjoy. This was after we requested to move from another table because the heat lamps were too high up and angled away from us to keep us warm. Might recommend dining inside to avoid this during the winter and early spring months. read more

The food is excellent. We really like the mushroom salsiccia pizza. The mushrooms are thinly sliced raw and delicious. The steak tartar/carne crudo was pretty good. We love the bread that comes with it but on the smaller sides. Additional bread costs over $10. Desserts are excellent! We love the fior de latte ice cream was olive oil and salt and the hazelnut chocolate mousse. Excellent selection of wines by the glass.
