    Burrata

I came here and tried two items: 1) Mushroom & Sausage Pizza 2.5/5 - crust is too large and dry, inner portion with toppings too wet and average taste 2) Burrata 2.5/5 - low effort, just some salad dressing with pistachios, cherries and strawberries Things I liked: - the chairs with the cushion, very comfortable seating - service, approachable attentive, helpful, servers - decor Things I didn't love: - the food, it was mediocre - the price I may come back to try the pasta

This was my second visit to Che Fico Menlo Park and we've enjoyed it both times. The service is great, the outdoor patio seating is maybe a sweater chilly but they have very effective heat lamps and the breeze is mostly shut out. It's cozy. They have good filtered tap water, which I appreciate because I drink a lot of water with my meals. Started with Burrata, focaccia and a Caesar. The Caesar is one of the best around, really punchy anchovies, tons of cheese and truly excellent lettuce. It's a little small for 4 people to share, but great for 2. The seasonal spring burrata was one of the best things I put into my mouth recently, the cherries and mint leaves were so refreshing and balanced the unctuous mouth feel of the creamy cheese. And the focaccia - let to my own devices, I could easily eat an entire loaf of this - (Che Fico, please consider making a mortadella sandwich, on your focaccia with arugula and mascarpone...) it's fresh hot and delicious. The whipped mascarpone and olive oil dip is really good. For mains, we got a pesto pizza (6 slices and decent sized for sharing.) that was delicious. We even ate the crust (dipping it in the mascarpone from the focaccia). I am not a huge pesto fan and I even loved this - the olives and fresh mozzarella were a great balance. The veal and beef meatball was good - it didn't look huge but we all got some. We added the spaghetti and it was a good addition. The other star of the night for me was the agnolotti - somehow they found the sweetest English peas ever and filled pillow pasta sheets with them. Very light sauce but so good. I could easily eat an entire serving of this myself. The peas are only available during spring - I'm sure the Brentwood corn agnolotti is similarly delicious, and I'm definitely coming back to try it. Also our server was wonderful - gave us some great recommendations. Both of the best dishes of the night were his recommendations so thank you! Lovely evening and I'll be back for a 3rd time soon.

First time customer. Sat in the covered outdoor seating. Great atmosphere. Good sommelier. We shared the Caesar salad and mushroom and sausage pizza. Flavors were great for both. Attentive service by our waiter and other wait staff. The only downside was the pizza. Great, engaging flavors. Crust was flavorful,....but it was soft and soggy on the bottom. Really took away from the pizza. Don't know if it was a one-off or if that is their style of pizza making, but we came away a bit disappointed.

Che Fico had great food and table-side service. And everything is cooked from scratch, except the gluten-free pasta. My friend and I had the Caesar Salad, Orecchiette, and the Pork Chop. The Pork Chop was recommended by our server and it didn't disappoint! Great flavor and it wasn't dry. The fennel sausage in the Orecchiette was savory a strong crusty sear. Caesar was a fork-and-knife salad. Check out Che Fico if you're craving Italian.

    Cannoli $12

5% surcharge. 5.0/5: Margherita pizza $27. It was excellent! you can tell the dough is fermented a long time. soft and airy on the inside, crispy on the outside. 4.5: Cannoli $12: As good as Romolo's Cannoli. The filling is light and airy. The shell is lightly fried, with the perfect level of grease. You get two. 4.0: Tortelloni di zucca squash/sage pasta: Good, but lacking a wow factor. Way overpriced at $32+surcharge. The bartender Massimo is working here most days; he's a cocktail specialist from Milan. Stop by for a custom-made negroni.

Great spot with a really nice atmosphere and beautiful decor. The crowd has a fun, young vibe -- mostly Gen Z and millennials which gives it a cool energy. The food was good and the staff were friendly, though service could be a bit more attentive. Overall a really enjoyable place to hang out with friends. Would definitely come back.

I just love their Chopped salad so much that I tend to crave it! And any pasta with pesto I love! Tried a different pizza because they didn't have the mushroom pizza on the menu due to the season. I was very pleasantly surprised that the Salsiccia pizza tasted really good! The combination of leeks, olives, and sausage was delicious! Highly recommend if you're in the mood for good Italian food!

***Gelato Only Review*** The gelato is very tasty and made authentically. I ordered at the outside window which was very convenient for a quick stop while walking around the area. The service was decent, even though it seemed like a long day for the person serving the gelato but not enough to ruin the experience. It was a quiet atmosphere and the gelato is worth a try.

I can with a large group and everything was ordered family style. This was definitely the best way to dine here as the flavors are so diverse and so full. Everything on the menu, from pizzas to pastas to meats, was amazing. The servers were also very helpful and made a great show out of the vongole en crosta.

One word to describe this place: phenomenal. New restaurants can be hit or miss, but this one did not disappoint at all. The staff was kind and attentive, and the space itself is absolutely gorgeous. We ordered family style, trying a handful of appetizers and entrees, which was the perfect way to experience the menu. If you're looking for a bit of a show, definitely order the calzone with clams inside, the way they prepare it is truly entertaining. Overall, I really loved the experience.

Sadly, this experience didn't live up to the hype in my mind. Came here over the weekend to celebrate a birthday. Spot was lively, and we seated immediately with a reservation. We waited quite a while before our server came who didn't even introduce himself and just went straight to asking for our order. Luckily, our food came out well paced. Apps - calamari (fishy), focaccia (airy and light), burrata and beet salad (good) and the carne crudo (tasty). Dinner included the octopus, rigatoni amatriciana, fettuccini and the tortelloni zucca. These were all well prepared except I didn't care for the tortelloni, the squash was a bit too sweet for my taste. We ended up skipping dessert - menus were passed but again, we had to wait so long for our server to return that we called it.

Solid 4. 75 Stars We had such a memorable dining experience at Che Fico that we're already planning our next dinner date there. This place is super trendy and popular with tons of positive vibes. I love the energy from the staff and smiles on their faces. Dishes were delectable and well presented. Started wth a Caesar Salad. Fresh Romaine lettuce and a tangy dressing with Anchovies. Followed by the Focaccia loaf. Buttery and flaky to the last bite. The Octopus and potatoes were slathered in a lemon Aioli garlic sauce and cooked just perfect. My Chicken Parmesan was packed with flavor covered in a rich Marinara and melted cheese. We finished with a sweet and crunchy Cannoli and Gelato/Sorbet Swirl. Sat at the bar and had a couple drinks with our meal and had excellent service from the bartender. I highly recommend you make reservations a day or so before hand as this place is popular. The menu is a bit pricey, but your are served quality food and fantastic service in a cozy and modern restaurant. Second time around one week later... We enjoyed the same Focaccia, Steak Tartare aka Carne Cruda. A lovely and well seasoned pasta and a Halibut to die for!

3.5 stars. My most…read morerecent Roma experience was on the evening of Thursday, May 28, 2026. Mom was craving squid ink pasta, so she suggested this place for our dinner destination. I had visited once before and also remembered ordering take-out from them a few years ago. I wasn't super impressed by them back then, but was open to seeing if I would have an improved opinion of them. Roma ITALIAN CUISINE is a casual dining spot that serves authentic dishes at Menlo Park's main drag, Santa Cruz Avenue. They offer both indoor, comfy quarters and sidewalk seating options equipped with heat lamps. Their warm, neighbourhood vibe with white-tablecloth comfort provides a relaxed atmosphere ideal for unwinding. Mom called Roma shortly after 7:30 PM to see if they had a table for five available for us. No problem, so we headed straight to the restaurant and arrived around 7:45 PM. We were quickly seated and served iced water. Unfortunately, we had to return 1.5 rounds of the water because the glasses were dirty. Mom asked our waitress/server #1 for sliced lemon for our water to which she was told that the kitchen ran out of lemons. Interestingly, our waiter/server#2 brought out the requested slices. This was the waitress' strike #1. Roma's cuisine is more traditional than trendy, serving an array of classic Northern Italian inspired dishes. In addition to the warm, soft complimentary bread, below are what we had for dinner: GNOCCHI ($27) + grilled chicken ($11) - The green pesto looked richly tasty and the potato dumplings looked plump and pillowy. V was a fan of his dish. SQUID INK PESCATORE ($38) - Both Mom and Z ordered this PASTA, but Z requested to substitute the clams with more of the other seafoods. Initially, we were told by the waitress/server #1 that there would be an extra charge for subbing the clams, but our waiter/server #2 ensured that where was no such surcharge. Strike #2 for waitress #1. Initial misinformation aside, Z and Mom were happy with their orders. LASAGNA ($30) - Substantial in size. Chaz finished every bite with enjoyment. POLLO MARSALA ($32) - Very good. I was pleasantly surprised to finally enjoy a dish at Roma. Service kicked off with major disappointment due to our waitress'/server#1's falsifications. Mom was extremely displeased by her which was completely understandable. Thankfully, our waiter/server #2 was much more helpful and friendly. He saved our dinner experience...and my opinion of Roma did, indeed, improve.

The highlight for me was the carbonara. It's the only place I've found that truly makes it the way they do in Rome. A few years ago, I visited Rome and, like a classic tourist, ate carbonara nonstop. Ever since then, I haven't been able to find anything that compares--until now. One bite honestly took me right back. Highly recommend. We'll definitely be coming back.

One never really knows when any restaurant will close, really, but this place just felt like such a Palo Alto institution that it couldn't close, but it did. I had been here at least once before, in the 1990s, when I was in college and my brother worked in Palo Alto. That era feels like the zenith of this upscale chain's cultural relevance, which made my most recent return that much more interesting. I expected things to have changed or at least to have felt different, but my experience in 2025 was eerily similar to my previous experience in 199x: I was expecting to be annoyed by pretentiousness but was instead wowed by the food and the service, which was excellent. But because it felt exactly the same, it didn't feel timeless; it felt dated in a way that I know rationally things are dated, but I'm a very nostalgic person by nature, so I love old things. But Il Fornaio felt too dated either to catch up with the times or to care that they were passing it by. Our large party was originally seated in a cramped area, but they were happy to re-seat us in the patio, which was covered and had heat lamps. That change made all the difference in our experience, because I know my mom, brother, and I would have been itching to get out of here as soon as possible if we had eaten inside. Instead, we enjoyed our leisurely meal, and even though my nephew (a Stanford student) had to bike back to campus, we took our time and relaxed. I can't say I'm sad Il Fornaio is gone. I didn't come here for almost thirty years, and it's not as if the entire chain is closing--at least I haven't heard that it is.
