Solid spot for Palo Alto and for large parties. We come here once a year for our recruitment of new students. The location is perfect - nearby Stanford - and has a great patio for hosting larger parties like ours. Great table layout options, good amount of outdoor heaters to keep everyone warm from 6-8pm in early March. Beautiful upscale setting perfect for wining and dining the candidates. We always get one red and one white wine poured. For basic cheaper wines these are always solid - which is great considering the wine focus of the venue. For food, we get a selection of pizzas and charcuterie to start and then a full buffet dinner. The food seemed even more elevated this year and was fantastic. The caesar salad had whole anchovies on top (a very nice touch), the appetizer bites are bite sized and good variety, the pastas are yummy, and the desserts are delectable! The tiramisu was so so so great! Service was very friendly and as fast as possible with so many. The bartenders pouring wine were a bit distracted, but still did the job. Every dish we tried was delicious, but the Emiliana Pizza was the star of the night, and the Pasta Amatriciana was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. I went to Vina Enoteca and attended a dinner event in the back private room. The room was a nice size for the event with two long tables. The group started off with shared appetizers: bruschetta and shrimp cocktail. Both appetizers were presented nicely but the taste was nothing special. I had the Insalata di Cesare which included a big anchovy which made it stand out among other Caesar salads I've had in the past; I personally liked the anchovy but others didn't care for it too much. For my entree I had the bolognese. My initial reaction when the entree was placed in front of me was that it reminded me of Chef Boyardee with larger noodles. The taste was much better than the canned stuff but as I progressed through the dish I felt like it needed something more so I don't get tired of eating it. For dessert I had vanilla gelato and the presentation was underwhelming since it was just a scoop of gelato in a white bowl. Overall, I did not leave hungry but I did leave feeling like something was missing from my overall meal. I wouldn't go out of my way for this, but if I was craving Italian food while shopping in the Stanford area, I would consider going back. read more

Mom wanted to check out Vina Enoteca, so she invited us to dinner here. For some reason, she thought that the restaurant was fairly new, but, based on some photos I saw on yelp, they have been around since at least 2016. Mom made reservations for her, the boys and me for Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 6:15 PM, informing them that we were celebrating Z's birthday. I was hanging with Auntie Sol and Cousin Devon, so they drove me to meet up with Mom and the boys at the restaurant. Located at the Stanford Barn in Palo Alto, we easily found parking in the lot. Auntie Sol and Cousin Devon accompanied me to go inside and wait for Mom and the boys to arrive. When Mom arrived, she invited Auntie and Cousin to join us for dinner. Vina Enoteca easily accommodated the additional two seats. Mom was impressed by the rustic venue with hardwood floors, wooden beams and a brick wall separating the dining room from the barroom. The place was very clean and tidy during our visit. Upon seating, we were given "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" menus. I thought that was a nice touch. Below are what we ordered: Housemade Focaccia ($8) - The bread was really nice and soft. Tasted delicious, too, with the extra virgin olive oil and nduja butter. Likely THE BEST foccaccia that I ever had. Insalata Verde ($15) - A pretty plate of greens with colours of pink and orange popping out from the shavings of radish and carrots. Insalata Cesare ($19) - Wow, they were very generous with the servings of anchovies. Z preferred the octopus over this salad that he ordered. Polipo alla piasta ($30) - I don't eat octopus, but Z tried this and immediately after tasting, he said, "Wow! That's really good. I should have ordered that." Zuppa de Funghi ($20) - Our server, Alejandra, highly recommended this soup. It was rich and deliciously earthy in taste. Tagliatelle Bolognese ($29) - Meh. Cousin Devon ordered this pasta dish. He thought that it was ok, I was not impressed by it. The sauce didn't taste like it simmered long enough for a robust flavour. Involtino di Pollo ($35) - Mom and I both had the chicken for our main dishes. It was a nice poultry entrée. I think that I would have enjoyed it more with wild rice rather than the farro that sat under the chicken. Calabrese ($28) - V was the last to finish his food because he ate every single slice of this personal pizza. He fully enjoyed it. He was so stuffed that he didn't have room for dessert which doesn't happen often at all. Mafaldine al ragu' ($38) - Auntie Sol and Z ordered this pasta that came with a side of bone marrow. This was Z's first time trying bone marrow and it did not disappoint him at all. This pasta was much tastier than the bolognese. TIRAMISÙ ($14) - Z was served this dessert, topped with a lit candle, on the house. This birthday dessert was brought out to him before everyone was finished eating and prior to passing out dessert menus. Mom and I found the timing of this interestingly odd, but appreciated the complimentary sweet. Served in a cup, it resembled a sundae. It was yummy. PANNA COTTA ($14) - Mom and I love panna cotta, so we ordered this to share. I liked the side of biscotti that were served with the chestnut flavoured Italian custard, but I wasn't a fan of the panna cotta itself. Alejandra could tell that Mom and I were not enjoying this much and approached us, offering for us to order something else. TORTA CIOCCOLAT E ZUCCA ($15) - We ordered this tart to replace the panna cotta. It was interesting, but I wouldn't order it again. Our waitress, Alejandra, must be a mind reader because as we were winding down on the chocolate and squash tart, sort of picking at it, she came to the rescue and brought to us a traditional panna cotta. The surprise dessert was not on the menu, it was made for the private party that they were hosting in the back room and an extra was available for her to serve to us. This classical version we loved and practically licked it all off of the bowl. Needless to say, Alejandra was awesome. We appreciated her keen attentiveness, great recommendations, and warm friendliness. I actually heard her ask Z, "Are you enjoying your birthday dinner?" Such a sweetheart she was. We had a great dining experience at Vina Enoteca. I was eyeing the Halibut ($46), the Mezze Maniche Cacio e Pepe ($25) and the Lumache all'Amatriciana ($28). I was there for a corporate event with a set meal, which was great. The salad was crispy and well seasoned. The lasagna was great as well - the sauce and the meat were both good. We ended up taking a lap around the restaurant and noted how cozy and lovely it was designed to be, especially the corner seating by the bar. Service: 3.5/5 Our server was attentive in the beginning and refilled our water often, but as the night went by, he became more negligent but it was understandable since the restaurant got busy. So a different waiter had to be flagged for our desert menu and check. Food: 5/5 Polipo alla Griglia - The taste was fantastic with its preserved lemon vinaigrette and loved the lettuce. However, there were less than 6 tiny pieces of octopus for $29. Crudo - Never had raw fish with apples and EVOO dressing but boy, were we fans. Yellowfin tuna was soaked in the dressing, which made it taste SO delicious. Moreover, the fish was extremely fresh and buttery on its own. Funghi pizza - I eat pizza once a year but I had 2 slices in one sitting so does that already say something?? The dough was incredibly soft and moist.. since the crust was pretty thick, I thought it'd be tougher to chew but wow, it felt like biting into a moist cloud. Pretty good Italian spot right by Stanford hospital! No wait at all on weeknight afternoon and service was amazing. We had the focaccia to share which admittedly was huge, but quite expensive for just bread, we shared the funghi and Emiliana pizza which were both absolutely delicious. We then shared the Cacio e Pepe which tasted quite unique because of the mezzemaniche pasta and the cappalletti which was fantastic. The side of spinach was amazing too! A lovely surprise coming here with my grandparents who used to come here when it was the Red Barn! It's become quite the nice Italian restaurant with a great bar and ample seating inside and outside. I'm now partial to the bar area because of the amazing waitress Maritza! She was so attentive and had great recommendations and has been there since the beginning. The drinks were great including the Bees knees and classic Negroni with a good variety in wine list. We had dinner at Vina Enoteca last night. We sat on the patio as the sun was setting, and although the wind picked up the heater kept us very comfortable. As always, the food was very good, simple but ample in quantity, authentic and well-prepared. But what made the evening special was the service. Maritza, our server, was attentive without hovering, solicitous but not cloying, and genuinel, friendly and efficient. It wasn't the first time we have been delighted with Enoteca's staff, but Maritza was at a whole different level. Vina Enoteca is one of the prettiest restaurants in the area. The interior is a pleasant industrial chic, which is somewhat unusual in Palo Alto. There is little indication of the building's former life as a barn for horses. However, as the sun sets, one can gaze into lovely gardens that feel of rustic fantasy. The food menu is somewhat sparse, and certainly many of the delicious dishes that you see here on Yelp are no longer served. For example, the squid ink pasta is gone. What's left is somewhat short of meat options; perhaps neuroticism from the nearby medical school has spilled over. However, it is rather good. The bread is a pricey starter indeed, but the nduja butter is fascinatingly delicious. Then I ate the Bolognese tagliatelle pasta. we had our wedding reception at vina enoteca 1 year ago so of course we had to head back to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. the food, drinks, and service were exactly why we chose this as our wedding venue and we were not disappointed! we got the stracciatella to start and then a piping hot nduja e pere pizza to share and they were both delicious. i had to stop myself from finishing the last slice of pizza so i that i would still have room for my pasta and dessert. for pasta we got the lasagne verde and the lumache. 10/10 for both! for dessert, we went with the chocolate mousse and it was perfect- not too sweet! they were also hosting some event in the outdoor space for the night and even so the ambiance inside was still intimate and welcoming. we know we will be headed back to vina for years to come and would also highly recommend the place if you have an event to host. read more

Dropped by Vina Enoteca on a Saturday night with a couple of friends and enjoyed some delicious bites. We made a pretty last minute reservation so glad that they were able to accommodate us! I do recommend making a reservation since it was pretty darn busy when we dropped in and the wait would have been considerable otherwise. Let me just advertise the two types of bread that were served at the start of our meal with a simple little olive oil that was delicious! We didn't order any apps and dove right in with a couple of pizzas and pastas. My friends had the bolognese and the cacio e pepe - both of which the enjoyed. I had the margherita pizza which was a total sight to behold and also deeelicious. Honestly would eat that again in a heart beat! I do wish they had at least one red sauce pasta that was vegetarian, but hey I got my red sauce on pizza as my carb instead of pasta :P Next time, I would definitely be interested in trying some of the appetizers as well! Service was friendly and helpful without making us feel suffocated or overwhelmed. The interior and exterior are both sooo pretty and our food came out at a good pace. Prices are definitely on par with what you get in terms of taste and quality. Parking can be a bit difficult and it does fill up. I love Vina Enoteca! We are so lucky to have it so close to the hospital. I probably eat here at least a couple times a month at Stanford events or with my guests. I think the star is the pizza. The margarita pizza in my opinion is absolutely perfect Neopolitian wood fired pizza. I highly recommend eating it fresh on site but I have also ordered the pizza for takeout which was still delicious. There menu does change a little bit with the seasons. I like their ravioli and bolognese. My least favorite is their cacio e Pepe. They make all their pastas fresh and in house. They allow well behaved dogs both inside and outside! They have an excellent wine list and I have shared many bottles of wine here. All were hits. Service was pleasant, albeit noticeably slow, so if it's Friday night, plan to linger. Take note: Gratuity of 20% is automatically added onto your bill, even if it's just two of you, as another reviewer mentioned. Then following your total balance, the tag reads Additional Tip, with a space for you to add a tip on top of the 20% gratuity they have already charged you. In our case, the initial bill included a $30 glass of wine we had not ordered, which was removed with apologies once we pointed it out. The $26 gratuity charge on top of the mistaken $30 wine charge was what made the initial bill total eye-catching. We are out of towners from small towns so this approach of a built in required 20% gratuity, with expectation of additional tip, is not familar to us, even in fine dining. read more

Group dinner weekday evening. Ambience is beautiful with high ceilings and modern space and furniture while still retaining a semi rustic feel. We tried 2 salads and three of the pizzas. Then everyone ordered separate mains which were mainly pastas. I will preface by saying , we just returned from a 2 week trip in Italy, so that is biasing me a little bit. Salads were standard. Pizzas were standouts, with interesting combinations as well as classics (eg Margarita). Great thin crust with airy chewy dough. The pastas were just ok. Most were cooked al dente which we had become accustomed to having come back from Milan. Tiramisu was pretty standard and not anything out of the ordinary. Prices on the medium/high side. A 'hidden gem' is what I would call this place. Has been our go-to for the past few years. Located in a quiet lot between Stanford Hospital and Mall. Always good parking. Have yet to have a bad experience here. Staff is always nice, kind, eager to help, and make great recommendations. The ambiance here is great for a social get together. The margherita pizza was delicious; the bread was puffy and charred in the right ways, the sauce was subtle but with enough flavor. The one way I'd improve it was to add more burrata, which I felt was lacking. The tiramisu was unique with crunchy chocolate bits on top - though it ended up being more cream-heavy than I would've liked. It was a delight nonetheless. Service-wise, I felt it was decent but slightly lacking in speed and hospitality. Overall, a good time, and a place I'd recommend for a reunion with friends or even people watching. read more
