Smith Automotive Towing and Recovery is by far the worst towing company I have ever dealt with. My car broke down, and after calling them, I was told a truck would arrive within 30 minutes. TWO HOURS later, I was still waiting, only to be met with a rude dispatcher who clearly couldn't care less. When the driver finally arrived, he was unfriendly and unprofessional, acting like he was doing me a favor. To make matters worse, they charged me an outrageous fee for a simple tow--way more than they originally quoted! The worst part? My car was damaged in the process, and they refused to take responsibility, blaming me instead. Do yourself a favor and stay FAR away from this company. Unreliable, overpriced, and completely unprofessional.

About two weeks ago on a trip to see my oncologist in the city, the powers that be decided I hadn't…read morehad enough bad luck lately, and I ended up on the side of 101 standing (thank God) next to my upside down SUV with no clue of what to do next. During the next two weeks I asked everyone I could for a ride to go retrieve my belongings from my vehicle & finally found someone willing to drive me. I had to take the day off work because the tow yard is closed on the weekends and is only open during bankers hours from 8-5. I called when we started out to make sure they knew we were coming & the guy said no problem although he would charge a fee for coming to unlock the gate. I figured he might want $50 and was fine with that. When I finally arrived-and only 30 minutes after they'd closed-I called and told the guy we were there. He then told me he was eating dinner and would come open the gate for $200! I was dumbfounded and explained that I couldn't afford to pay that much & the man grumbled something else and hung up. About 10 minutes later a truck pulled up next to us and a rough looking guy growled out the window that we needed to get the f*** off his property and that we were causing his cameras to go off. When we tried to explain our situation he told us to get our sh** together and get off his property again. What happened to customer service? He wasted his time and gas to show up there anyway, would it really have hurt him to unlock the gate and allow us to grab the stuff from my vehicle? I live almost 3 hours away and now will have to try to figure out how to come back down here, again. As hard as it was the first time, I am not real optimistic about it happening a second time. With all the money that tow companies charge, I doubt it would have really hurt him to have a little compassion and try to be helpful this one time. I mean he obviously won't have a hard time figuring out some other way to squeeze the next guy who comes in after having hard times. What a jerk! I hope that someone else will call a different company and not give this man anymore business he doesn't appreciate.

On 19 October 2022 I dropped off the car to have a mass air flow sensor replaced. The car was…read morerunning fine at the time, just throwing a check engine light. I picked up the car on 21 October 2022, drove about a block, and had to return immediately as the car was not running well. I was promised the car numerous times, yet it was never ready. As time went by, and I still did not have the use of my car, I opted to take the car to another shop on 07 December 2022. This shop cut my MAF harness out, replaced it with something that did not even have the correct size wiring. (I have photos.) My original MAF & the wiring harness was not returned, so it took longer to get the correct part, as there was no original part to compare it to. Because of the incorrect size wiring on the MAF, the computer was throwing other codes as well. There was a problem with the replacement throttle position sensor, it wasn't matched to the car's computer correctly. This was a repair I did not authorize, and was not necessary. They had my car for 49 days. They didn't keep me updated, caused more problems with an inappropriate repair to the MAF sensor, replaced a part that was not faulty, and still didn't get my car running. DO NOT take your car here.

A few days later, I looked and the detailing/body kit of my car, where they needed to pull to replace the light, isn't even installed back properly & could have easily lost these expensive pieces. I brought my car in for another service of a different type the same day I noticed, to another shop in Ukiah. I asked if they could look at it and pop it back into place for me. I was worried I'd loose my body kit, and that the light wasn't in correctly. They explained to me that it wasn't installed properly & that my wires were hanging/dragging & exposed, causing me to have to replace that due to Gordon's not installing the replacement bulb correctly. Wow we don't even live here but needed a little bit of work done on our Prius!! Had a weard sound…read moreevery time we would speed up they found a rock in our skid plate soooo nice !!! They looked at everything we needed to get our 114000 mile Prius running good !! Did not want us to fix anything that wasn't necessary we got out for a little over 200 bucks !! The guy was so fair and honest I was so happy that we didn't get ripped off typically Nor Cal you do but this guy was wonderful!!

Also, two others came in after me with the same work to be done, and they were done before me. UPDATE: I finally got out of there around 5:30pm. But I am raising my review to 4 stars. The guy that checked me out admitted that the mechanics grabbed two other tickets before mine, and because of that he gave me a discount on my services. Mistakes happen, and he corrected for it.
