This is a fantastic old theater converted into a wood fired pizza place. Great food and service in a great place.

Great bartenders and great food at Billy's. Really nice outdoor seating too. One of the only places in town that is staying true to its casual atmosphere while other places in town turning into fake "elevated" experiences and charging more just because they can. This place is attached to the Virginian Lodge complex which is a pretty cool place to stay overall. There's a little gift shop, a burger joint, the saloon, a pool, hot tub, all sorts of little amenities. So this saloon is one part of this whole lodge experience. Immediately, we liked the laid back ambiance with lots of sofas and comfie chairs to hang out with a small group of people. We sat at the bar. For us, the vibe and casual, kickback ambiance was a five star for what we were looking for (which was that). We ordered two appetizers which were maybe about average: the hatch pepper queso was not as good as the Pace queso from the jar that we had just had a week prior. The chicken tenders were typical bar tenders, nothing special. Basic fries. So the food was struggling to score a three star. The thing about the service was that it could have been much better but because of the early hour we seemed to be sort of the warm up customers. One bartender was in training so while he greeted us he was promptly dismissed by the main bartender who alternated between being the best and the worst bartender you might have. When you're two of three people at the bar and there's only five people in the whole place you might expect to get more conversation from the barkeep since we were out of towners and looking forward to hearing about the local scene. Nope. I guess you could say it was mainly our high expectation of having a friendly bartender but ended up feeling sort of like a bar seat. This was at a very low ebb in the season as well as the day so I can't imagine that the experience would improve with more people. As with all things, it's all about expectation. If you don't expect a great bartender, and don't expect great food you might come away pleased with the venue. But no dark on tap so don't expect that either.

The bar itself is beautiful, with the famous silver dollar inlays and a warm lodge atmosphere that feels distinctly Wyoming. It's a comfortable place to grab a drink and take a break from exploring downtown. The bar is huge and has plenty of different seating areas and tables. This bar is legendary and a staple in Wyoming. The Silver Dollar Bar was country prior to instagram and everyone wearing jeans and boots pretending they lived and worked on a ranch. The decor is nice working ranchers. Boots are working clothes, not a fashion statement. We sat at a window table to enjoy the sun on a blustery, snow showery and passing sun day. Watching tourists here is a kick in the pants as they are glued to catching moments of "living western" on their phones. The three elk smashed sliders with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese were accompanied with PERFECT, CRUNCHY, PIPING HOT RINGS. As an aside, an additional order on rings were added because once in a while you must indulge. The sliders were fine and dense but that is elk. The rings were EPIC! Today was about simple food amongst the locals. We were able to ignore the 8 bachelorettes from back east documenting every drink at the bar. For a real authentic mountain meal at a local watering hole, get to The Silver Dollar Bar in Jackson Wyoming.

This was indeed a pro move. We also had the Faroe island salmon which, at $43 was too expensive, but was really good (in a previous menue picture I looked at it was $34). We sat down and were asked if we wanted the shades pulled down but we said we liked the light and enjoyed having them open. Shortly after that a group sat at the table next to us and the waitress closed the blinds completely without saying anything to us. If the light was in someone's eyes I totally support lowering them a bit but it was 4pm and if you're going to ask every table if they want them open or closed and you end up with two next to each other having opposing opinions then just ask if the other table minds ifs lowered partially or let them know what you're doing. Frustrating because we chose to eat here specifically for a view of the mountain. Secondly we asked our waitress for ranch and when she brought out our waters out she brought ketchup and said she'd be right back with the ranch. Our food then came and we asked the guy who brought it to bring some ranch but that never came. I wouldn't care much about it if the burger wasn't completely flavorless (which I'll touch on in a moment). Then we finally were able to get some ranch when the host walked by and he was great and brought it to us right away but having to ask 3 times for some ranch was frustrating. If this was all and the food was great, I'd let all this go BUT the burger (which we added bacon to) was completely flavorless. For a burger to have meat cheese and bacon and still taste like nothing is impressive. When the ranch finally came...it was awful. I've genuinely never met a ranch I didn't like until this one. It tasted like chemicals. Everyone at the table tried it and agreed. I didn't try the wings that others at table had so I can't comment on them myself but there weren't any good reviews from that side of the table either. I think this may just be a spot to grab a drink because it's tough to mess up a burger wings and ranch but this place managed to.

I mean how greedy do you have to be? It's a small thing but it sets the tempo to offer some bread. The service at Gun Barrel moves on the slower side. Food took 30 minutes to reach the table after ordering. I'd say that's a bit tardy for a steakhouse. The decor is exactly what you'd expect and it does a good job of feeling like a hunting club cabin. Wish they'd put a fire in the fireplace though, if it is an actual functioning fireplace. I ordered the ribeye. The steak had good crust, flavor, and seasoning. It was pretty damn tough. I had to revisit the menu and yep these were choice cut steaks. Kind of pricey for choice meat at that. Even the cap of the ribeye was needing to be chewed on repeatedly in order to swallow it. It was tough even by choice standards. It was a shame because the chef knew what he was doing. The temp was right, it was seasoned well, beautiful crust... just a crap steak he had to work with. A quick word on my side of mashed potatoes. They were okay but you get a pathetic amount, maybe about a cup worth. Just another thing that makes this place feel cheap. My date ordered the salmon. It tasted fishy and had no seasoning on it at all. Like zero salt or pepper. The fishy taste was notable, like it was starting to spoil but they cooked it up anyway instead of throwing it out. I would avoid this place.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening and dinner…read more Possibly the best ribeye I've had in the past 10 years, but the other "foam and powder"aspects of the dish were just silly. The so called General Tso steak sauce was like a thimbleful smear and completely irrelevant. BBQ Ramen seasoning? Not even enough to get a taste profile of it. The trout with a green curry sauce was good but again, ummmm.... Trout has a subtle flavor. Green curry coconut sauce, and stuffed with another type of Asian something something....might as just as well better to use a neutral tasting fish like a better quality tilapia imho. Let trout taste like trout. Use a different, neutral tasting fish for these kinds of sauces and fillings. Well at least it wasn't covered with a garnish of micro greens lol. Just a little cilantro heh heh heh. I mean don't get me wrong. Both entrees were okay. But a waste of quality fish when a less costly fish would have been fine what with all those other flavors. And the foam and powder embellishments on the steak were barely noticeable. The whole menu reads like a community college cooking school graduate little bit of this little bit of that. When I get home I'm going to have fun writing the different components of all the menu items on index cards, shuffle, and see what combinations come up each time. And I love the idea of a General Tso steak sauce and want to try creating one. And using a packet of Ramen seasoning instead of Cajun seasoning sounds like a fun thing to try. I just won't do it on a fifty dollar piece of meat. If you are counting calories you skip the gross doughnut hole dessert. Dense ball of dough. Gummy. Like they used a cake doughnut recipe instead of a yeast doughnut or beignet recipe. But if not counting calories , go for it. It's fun to try the sauces, even if not that great a doughnut. Great, festive, lively ambiance . Super friendly staff and service.

Unfortunately, the bar was painfully slow. Our first round of drinks took about 15 minutes, and the second took closer to 30 minutes after ordering. We eventually had to check in to make sure they were even coming. The food was fine, but not something we'd come back for. The elk pasta lacked the depth and richness you expect from a bolognese. The trout--poblano stuffed and curry-prepared--was an interesting idea, but the curry completely overpowered the fish, making the dish feel unbalanced. We had curry-dusted trout at The Blue Lion earlier in the week that was far better. (One of the best trout meals I've ever had.)
