This place was amazing!! From the taxidermy animal decor that makes you feel like you're in a wildlife museum to the unique steak menu offerings, it's a definite go-to when you're in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I ordered the filet flight (elk, bison & beef) and enjoyed every last bite. The sides, especially the mac 'n' cheese, were delightful. Our server was excellent and helped make this a great first-time experience at this country-worthy, heart-of-America steakhouse.

The food, ambiance and service were all great. We ordered the filet trio of beef, bison and elk along with their cream style spinach, all were excellent.

You gotta put some muscle into slicing this tough ass steak

I'm not sure I've ever patronized a steakhouse that didn't offer some kind of bread as a free appetizer. I see it's actually listed on the menu for $13. I mean how greedy do you have to be? It's a small thing but it sets the tempo to offer some bread. The service at Gun Barrel moves on the slower side. Food took 30 minutes to reach the table after ordering. I'd say that's a bit tardy for a steakhouse. The decor is exactly what you'd expect and it does a good job of feeling like a hunting club cabin. Wish they'd put a fire in the fireplace though, if it is an actual functioning fireplace. I ordered the ribeye. The steak had good crust, flavor, and seasoning. It was pretty damn tough. I had to revisit the menu and yep these were choice cut steaks. Kind of pricey for choice meat at that. Even the cap of the ribeye was needing to be chewed on repeatedly in order to swallow it. It was tough even by choice standards. It was a shame because the chef knew what he was doing. The temp was right, it was seasoned well, beautiful crust... just a crap steak he had to work with. A quick word on my side of mashed potatoes. They were okay but you get a pathetic amount, maybe about a cup worth. Just another thing that makes this place feel cheap. My date ordered the salmon. It tasted fishy and had no seasoning on it at all. Like zero salt or pepper. The fishy taste was notable, like it was starting to spoil but they cooked it up anyway instead of throwing it out. I would avoid this place.

We had a wonderful experience, our server Christen regularly checked in on us; and gave us time to look at the menu thoroughly in order to make an informed decision. Also, it was so unique. A child brought us our waters and filled our waters. I was so curious but I completely forgot to ask how this kid was hired. He looked super young, but was super responsible and respectful. Also, they come around often to refill your water. I ordered their burger that is 3/4 of a pound of meat. I swapped out the potato wedges for mashed potatoes because I was craving mashed potatoes. I also ordered the truffle mac & cheese because I love anything pasta related. After the meal, we ordered the deep dish apple pie for dessert which was heavenly. The bathrooms are fancy looking, the building has such rich history and it is such a cool experience. It is pricey, but I think if you are in Jackson, you might as well come at least once. They also put little tiny guns in their alcoholic drinks, we didn't order any, but our server was kind enough to give us one. They do not offer complementary bread, which was a little annoying, but the meal was so filling in the end. It worked out that we didn't eat any bread.

My husband said the burger was really dry, and did not like the brick of cheese that came on it. The Parmesan artichoke dip was really good, but didn't make up for the rest of the food or the prices... unfortunately

We called about 30 minutes before to make reservations for dinner. We were immediately seated when we arrived. Our server was attentive and friendly. I tried the marinated button mushrooms (4/5) and the picanha skewers (5/5). The mushrooms were good but slightly too salty for me. The skewers were cooked perfectly (medium) and came with a delicious chimichurri sauce.

Amazing way to celebrate our last night of vacation! Walking into Gun Barrel Steak and Game House felt like a real Western experience with the log cabin feel and incredible taxidermy animas throughout. I even had to do a walk through of the entire restaurant to take it all in. No appetizers since I knew I'd be too full to eat a complete meal and we were getting on a flight early the next morning. We started off with drinks and I had a Wyoming Manhattan served with a plastic black rifle as my stir stick which I loved. And the drink was good and strong. Dinner: my husband had the Big Sky Ribeye with onion straws and was cooked to perfection (I had several bites!) and I had the bison ribs. Talk about tender! They were falling off the bone and the sauce was delicious. We really enjoyed our time at Gun Barrel. No room for dessert!

Cheesecake was great. Lobster was okay and steak and mash potatoes were amazing. Service was good slightly long wait but good overall. The restaurant has a great western vibe features many unique decorations.

This had some of the best food I've had. We tried the fried green tomatoes and it was to die for. I could have ordered another plate for my dinner. We also had the teriyaki chicken and the filet flight and everything is so good! Our waiter was also great, even on a super busy night he was very attentive.

We are in town for a bachelorette party and had a reservation here for our first night. This place opens at 5 and our reservation was for 5:30- and this place was already poppin'. The service was truly 5 star. Within minutes of ordering drinks, our amazing server Mark brought them to the table. They were strong but flavorful! We were also provided complimentary bread with garlic butter. Appetizer and dinner orders were likewise delivered quickly after ors. The green dried tomatoes in particular were very tasty. Everyone got a different dish but we all ate to excess, the food was so good. I'm vegetarian (pescatarian for this trip) and the salmon was delicious. Everyone loved their meals. All in all, a must stop and eat- but I would recommend a reservation.

First time in, just passing through and Ell for n the Menu caught my eye! I was by myself and got a great table right in front of the BBQ Grill (see my pics), no better seat in the house unless there is one in the kitchen . I started with the Bison Carpaccio it was delicious! Perfect for one person but maybe not enough for two. I followed that with the wedge salad with Blue Cheese which was perfect! The I decided on Mixed Game Grill for my entree . Combination of elk steak, bison, prime, rib, and venison bratwurst with the rice with pecans & mushrooms (my choice of sides) it's a great plate to get a whole feel for everything. The Bison Prime Rib was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The venison sausage was excellent as well. The Elk Steak was a thick Top Sirloin. I ordered it Med-Rare and it came rare in the center. I did not send it back and I'm enjoyed it thoroughly.. I want to. Make a comment about the side dish (Rice with Pecans and Mushrooms) This was excellent. Earthy, and the pecans and mushrooms were tiny but could be detected. It was really good. Definitely worth a try. This place is big, busy, and loud. Not a fancy White linen type of place, but rich is rustic decor. It works with the menu items they are putting up. My server Ramiro, was on it! Always checking with me and making sure everything was good. He offered to take my Elk Steak back but I declined, ended up being a good call. I was looking for a restaurant that exemplified Jackson and I found it. If ever back through this way, I will be back! Cheers!

We had a great meal in Jackson Hole Wyoming at Gun Barrel Steak House! My wife had the steak diane - wagyu beef cooked to perfection, nicely seasoned with a baked potato. I had the steak burger without the bun but with everything else , onion ring, bacon and cheese , potato wedges on the side. Burger was seasoned and seared nicely , great flavor all the way around. My wife and I shared a caesar salad and it was excellent, great house made dressing, hit the spot. We sat outside on a lovely evening and had a very pleasant dinner! Cheers!!

This place is attached to the Virginian Lodge complex which is a pretty cool place to stay overall. There's a little gift shop, a burger joint, the saloon, a pool, hot tub, all sorts of little amenities. So this saloon is one part of this whole lodge experience. Immediately, we liked the laid back ambiance with lots of sofas and comfie chairs to hang out with a small group of people. We sat at the bar. For us, the vibe and casual, kickback ambiance was a five star for what we were looking for (which was that). We ordered two appetizers which were maybe about average: the hatch pepper queso was not as good as the Pace queso from the jar that we had just had a week prior. The chicken tenders were typical bar tenders, nothing special. Basic fries. So the food was struggling to score a three star. The thing about the service was that it could have been much better but because of the early hour we seemed to be sort of the warm up customers. One bartender was in training so while he greeted us he was promptly dismissed by the main bartender who alternated between being the best and the worst bartender you might have. When you're two of three people at the bar and there's only five people in the whole place you might expect to get more conversation from the barkeep since we were out of towners and looking forward to hearing about the local scene. Nope. I guess you could say it was mainly our high expectation of having a friendly bartender but ended up feeling sort of like a bar seat. This was at a very low ebb in the season as well as the day so I can't imagine that the experience would improve with more people. As with all things, it's all about expectation. If you don't expect a great bartender, and don't expect great food you might come away pleased with the venue. But no dark on tap so don't expect that either.

We spent the…read moreprior many nights at all the "best" restaurants in town - Wild Sage, Snake River Grill, Glorietta, White Buffalo Club - Gather beat them all out without question. While the previous restaurants mentioned are a bit more upscale, Gather is on the more casual side. It's located right at the base of Snow King mountain so you can look out at the mountain. Most of all - the food here was amazing. We are from NYC and are self proclaimed "foodies" - so we don't say it lightly when we say that the chef/menu here was super eclectic in the best way possible. He infused flavors from all different cuisines from Mediterranean to Korean -- without anything feeling overpoweringly ethnic. The pork buns were a 10 - unlike most restaurants that use a chunk of pork belly, it seemed like they cubed pork from the rib and it tasted more like eating a delicious spare rib from a Chinese restaurant - without the fat you often get in a traditional pork belly bun. The Fresno peppers accented the sweetness of the buns brilliantly. For entree my wife had the elk bolognese which was superb. The papardelle had a perfect chew (maybe made in house?) and the meat / sauce itself was wonderful. The real showstopper here though was the pork ribeye. I've had plenty of good pork chops but this was something completely different. This cut and its preparation was unbelievably tender and juicy - it melts in your mouth like a piece of wagyu steak. I truly did not think you could achieve this level of tenderness from a pork. The flavors around it were incredible and it was genuinely one of the best dishes I've ever had - anywhere - period. Kudos to the chef for this masterful creation. If you even marginally like pork - please do yourself a favor and get this!! Lastly - shout out to ELLA, our server, who was kind and warm and honest and attentive throughout the whole meal. One of the best servers we had on our entire trip - she was amazing! Overall - a true 5 stars here - no questions asked!!

It was as if we were being deserted one by one and trying to find someone to take our next order. I ordered the highly recommended elk bolognese and was immensely underwhelmed. The dish came out slightly warm, not hot. So it must have been sitting out for a while before being served. The elk was the most underwhelming part. The meat tasted like ground beef, but bigger chunks. The pasta was cooked well, but I would not order this dish again. The best part of the meal and experience was the pork baos. Tasty and delicious. Overall, this meal was just average.
