Dr. Molina and his entire crew are the best ever! They moved to Membership, which I love because I am able to communicate directly with Dr. Molina via text with any concern or question after hours, during the week and weekends. What a sense of relief because for some reason I only get sick on weekends and it's really comforting I can reach him anytime. Dr. Molina and their staff are very professional and so very caring. Oh! I found out that Dr. Molina is the football team Doctor at Austin's Vand.HS. We will never move... we're growing older so having a really good Doctor is our #1 priority......and we have just that! read more

I have been going here for several years, even through the Membership fiasco but now they have decided to require I get a physical for a prescription refill & are trying to blame my insurance which I have confirmed isn't the case so I was going to just get the physical so I can get my prescription refill they are holding hostage but I can't even get a physical for another 6 weeks so I am cutting ties. They are not taking any new patients so they probably do not even care what we think but if they ever do again .... stay far away. This practice is getting worse & worse, do yourself a favor & just keep looking. All the complaints posted about them prior to this post I've read I can also confirm. I am a Disabled Veteran & the VA is less of a hassle, so that should say it all right there. read more

This has got to be the worst doctors office in Austin. Absolutely horrible communication. They have set their phone system up to not take any calls. They have to call you back which is a joke when you need to get through to a nurse or doctor. They way overcharge and you have to be some kind of a member paying hundred's of dollars a month. On top of that they abuse credit cards by charging large amounts completely unauthorized. I would highly recommend finding another clinic. This one isn't worth the time it takes to just talk to a human being. read more

A doctors office who truly cares about their patients. Our family has gone here for many years, I love it so much and my kids asked to stop the pediatrician so they could see Carey as well. Carey is the most loving and caring person, she goes ABOVE and beyond to make sure we're happy and feeling good. She's honestly become like family. And sadly this is rare today but not with TFP. Their staff is friendly and attentive, always kind and sincere as well. If I ever have an insurance question they're always willing to help with that also. I've been seeing Amanda Gay for a few months now. I haven't had a doctor like this-ever. She's so compassionate, and talks to me like she truly cares about my wellbeing. I can talk to her about anything and never feel ashamed or judged, and she always meets me with a smile. She needs to give bedside manner seminars to other doctors out there! Her staff is super friendly as well- not sure where other reviews stating otherwise are coming from. I've never had a problem with a nurse or anyone at the front desk- and I'm super picky about customer service! Sometimes I make an appointment just so I can go see her. Ok. Some people have complained about the extra charge for consierge service. I came down with the flu on Monday. I was seen within a half hour of leaving my home. This evening I was coughing so hard and I paged Dr Molina who immediately picked up and I also got an email message from Stephanie Martin who said she had called in a script to my local pharmacist. Dr Marty is my guy and I love Amanda, Carrie and whomever is around to take care of me. Worth the slight extra cost per month? You bet! read more

Let me echo Laura G's comments. My family and several other families we referred over the last 10 years have come to the point where we are all leaving. The follow-up is non existent on both labs and on refills. Just last week I received the OK for a 30-day refill to avoid coming in and being exposed to flu patients. Now back in town from travel, no refill is available. The pharmacy never received a call from the practice The staff and the over-capacity number of patients has ruined the practice. read more

I had been a patient at Texas Family Physicians for a few years before they switched to their patient membership system. Since the change there has been an overall decrease in the quality of my care. It is impossible to reach the front desk if you are a non number. Calls are never returned when they say they will be. I was traveling out of town and needed a refill on my prescription. I made sure to call and give ample time for them to return my call (as I knew that they weren't going to pick up, so I made sure to call in the time frame they provide that would ensure they returned my call that day). My call was never returned and I wasn't able to get the medication I needed. They refused to send some of my prescriptions to my insurance for some reason. On one occasion after numerous attempts of the pharmacist sending back prescriptions to ask them to send it to my insurance, the script expired and I was no longer able to even fill the prescription I needed. Once, a year or two before they switched to membership care, I had an awful experience with Dr. Molina. I was in talking about a mental health problem I was experiencing. He asked me what I was feeling, and after I began to tell him, he stopped me, corrected me and was extremely patronizing to me about the difference between what I was feeling and the symptoms I thought were affecting me. The exchange left me feeling like I wasn't being heard, and my concerns weren't validated. Being a patient and not a member here will not allow you to make appointments, will not patch you through to the front desk, no matter how urgent your concern is. The member system will leave you feeling like a second class patient if you aren't a member. I recommend looking else where for a physician. read more

I have been a patient of Carey Sweet and the staff at Dr. Molina's practice for since we moved to Austin in August. I have been treated every other week at the offices at Lakeway and Rio Del Sitio and the facilities are first rate. The staff are friendly and I always look forward to my office visits. I recommended them to my brother in law who is now a patient as is my wife. I am grateful we have such excellent care available here in Austin and I would not hesitate to encourage you to be a patient as well! read more

My family has been with Dr Molina for over 10 years. Having been thru many doctors in the past I wouldn't put myself or my family's care in the hands of anyone else. While it can be difficult to get in the care and concern is bar none - the change to a membership model appears to be the answer to patient overload at a popular practice. While at first off- putting the membership model is not uncommon and is likely the future. That is, unless you're willing to accept subpar care - I checked around. I say all this as I still visit the VA for service-connected issues and don't want the best of the best relegated to "VA care". Don't blame Dr. Molina - blame "insurance", Medicare, Tricare, et al. that force practices to make a decision to either raise rates or provide poor service. read more

I've been a patient at Texas Family Physicians for several years, and have always had a pleasant experience (as much as a person can have going to the Dr.). I feel like my concerns about my health are validated when I am being seen by Dr. Molina or Carey Sweet and they always take time to answer any and all of my questions. I drive from south Austin to their location because I feel like I'm not just another number at other offices, and many of my family see them as well. I somewhat agree with others regarding lab results - often you are responsible for following up and making an appointment for a review of your labs. I don't recommend Dr. Megan Passe and her staff to anyone because it's quite shocking how "medical codes" for billing can be manipulated to their convenience AND run "unnecessary tests" to make extra money and leaves patients helpless. If you pay co-pay, you won't know any of this is going on behind the scene. I've never written bad reviews before, but you need to know this. I investigated and I know for sure they run "unnecessary tests" on patients. I took my test results and its bill to the other clinic and they confirmed by telling me "You must have been billed a lot. I would never order a test for a 38 year old woman to check testosterone level. Some others are for women that are going through menopause." Apparently doctors can tell, but I won't know so they took an advantage. I started investigating since my bill was high. I called them and they said they would adjust medical codes (which I don't understand what they are saying with all the jargon.) I never heard from them for THREE months while I left multiple voice mail. I get the last bill which will go to collection center if I didn't pay, and they said I've signed their paper agreeing to pay so I am responsible for all. My friend recommended her to me, but she will never going back after this. My whole community knows about this and stopped going since we found out eventually this office is in for money making not in patients. read more

For a good number of years we have been seeing Megan Passe with great appreciation and satisfaction. Following her departure the level of customer care seems to have dropped. For the last several weeks I have unsuccessfully attempted to renew long standing prescriptions. I finally drove down to the Cedar Park Office thinking I could accomplish this in person. Upon arrival, I found a note taped to the door saying that they had consolidated offices and this office was no longer open. There was no prior notice or warning. Having been their client for a good number of years, I feel that the lack of any notice of the closing to be totally unacceptable. This is no way to treat patients. As much as my wife and I hate changing providers, we are no longer comfortable putting our medical care in Dr. Molina's hands. read more

Update: after having a difficult time trying to find a doctor that would feel comfortable with a patient like me that has multiple health issues I finally hit the jackpot. I did end up with a concierge doctor but it is very affordable while she does not take insurance for appointments the monthly fee is less then my co-pays were. I do still have insurance which pays for any hospital visits, lab work and my prescriptions. And I have to say honestly I couldn't be happier with my new doc I have her cell number that I can use anytime I need her no separate answering service just a straight connection to her. She is able to get you in same day if not the next day for sure and she doesn't rush you she gives herself a full hour to sit and talk about what's going on and any other concerns when you talk she actually looks at you and treats you like she would want to be treated. I highly recommend her. She is located in cedar park area but for the kind of care she's worth the drive. She even sent me a text on my birthday to wish me a good day I can't say it enough she is wonderful. Her name is Dr. Melissa Miller and her practice is called Premier Health. My first appointment with her was wonderful we went over my health concerns and about what she could offer me there was no pressure to signup it was just a get to know you appointment if your looking for a new doc give her a try you won't regret it. The intake nurse and Amanda Gay PA both took the time to get a very complete history. We discussed more than what I came in for. It was a holistic approach to my healthcare. I've been seeing Amanda Gay for almost 5 years! I followed her from another clinic a few years back. She's the best! She's very personable and genuinely cares about her patients. She calls you by name, you're not just a chart. The nurses are friendly, too. The office is super clean, the very cleanest I've ever, ever been in! It looks and smells brand new every time I go inside. My only complaint is the wait. It really does take quite a bit of your day. I show up to my appointment early every time and I still end up waiting at least thirty minutes. It's a long wait. But worth it! I've never had better care at a doctor's office or clinic. I won't switch as long as I live in Austin and as long as Amanda still works there! read more

I rarely ever go to the doctor and I felt myself getting sick so I came in as a new patient with no insurance. I called to schedule an appointment and the person who answered was very nice and gave me a good feeling about this center. When I came in however the front staff was short and rude. I wanted to be tested for the flu because it was still in season (mid-may) and I work in geriatrics so I didn't want to risk spreading it. I'm not sure which "doctor" it was, but she came in, asked me the same questions the assistant did and swabbed me then left. I was waiting for at least 20 minutes in the room. She came back and let me know it wasn't the flu but I did have a virus and that was it. I've been trying to find a decent family practitioner just for my well being, but here I felt rushed with no genuine concern. I went back to the front, paid in cash and left with a paper receipt. Mid June I was billed with an $87 payment due. I called the billing company to let them know I paid in office with cash and I no longer had my receipt as proof of pay. I suppose that is my fault but I didn't think I would be billed after already paying. I called the office to see if there was anyway I could get a copy of my receipt and the lady told me I couldn't have even left with a receipt if I didn't pay, even though I did. I'm 21 years old, rarely ever go to the doctor, and the one time I choose to go in 3+ years I get this. I don't have health insurance, I live on my own and used money out of savings to go to the doctor. Now I get to pay twice because I was ignorant and didn't save my receipt. Don't waste your time with this physician center. Based on other reviews they don't even seem to genuinely care even for people with insurance. All money hungry people. read more

I decided to switch physicians this year and went with Texas Family Physicians. I ended up going out to their Lakeway location since Four Points and Cedar Park was booked up until July. I have to say I made the best decision ever. Doctor Carey Sweet is great and knowledgeable about today's medicine. I liked Amanda and Carey as health advisors, but TFP recently switched to a crazy expensive membership program which left me pretty dumb-founded. Nobody was ever able to explain to me the reason for this; I always received a very convoluted response that has always made me think of a word I learned in grade-school and have never used before now: circumlocution. They hide behind the veil of "offering patients more services" but the only benefit appears to be that you aren't treated like a 2nd class citizen if you're a member. If you aren't a member and need a RX refill, you have to sit in the waiting room for a very unnecessary walk-in appointment, but all members are called before you are, even if you've been there 1.5 hours and 20 members walked in 5 mins ago. I have been a patient of Dr. Martin Molina for over 15 years. He is so thorough and knowledgeable. He really cares about his patients and takes the time to understand all of my needs. Stephanie and Kristen are always kind and quick to respond. I love the new membership service he is offering. My insurance does not cover him and I don't care. He is still my doctor!! I have had the most horrific experience with Texas Family Physicians. I went in for a routine physical and cholesterol check that is required by my employer. I could have done it at the local pharmacy but decided to go to Carey Sweet at Texas Family Physicians. I told her I was perfectly healthy and just needed the physical and cholesterol blood work done. She tells me that she'd like to order a couple other tests to "really look" at the numbers. Unfortunately, my mistake. I was sent a THIRTEEN THOUSAND DOLLAR bill from the lab. All this unnecessary labwork was ordered. Their billing department is no help. What should have cost $79 has turned into over a $13,000 bill, all to tell me that I'm perfectly healthy. It's been over a year and still no resolution. **Please note: I am reporting the fraudulent and unethical practices of this group to my insurance company, the OIG, TMA, and the AG's office. It looks like there have been multiple scams regarding unnecessary heart tests/lab work. BEWARE if you visit this family practice facility. read more

First, I want to start by saying that I LOVE Amanda Gay and the office staff and have always had a pleasant experience with this team. They always seem eager to assist me in meeting my needs and answering my questions. The reason for my negative review is due to the billing side of Texas Family Physicians operations and Ana Cortez, their billing manager. This is the first office practice I have been a patient of where I have not received a statement/invoice to indicate services rendered and when payment is due. My first appointment with Amanda Gay was back in April and I received my first, and LAST statement from their office in May. In June, I was contacted by Ana Cortez who indicated to me that they would be charging my credit card for $160 dollars for outstanding balances. When I asked when a statement was submitted, she was not able to indicate this, only stating "we sent you a bill....check your insurance EOB". The EOB doesn't clearly indicate what TFP will charge, just what my insurance covered and what "could" be charged by TFP, and more importantly, it doesn't provide me a due date of payment to ensure I am not reflecting outstanding balances. The EOB indicates "this is not a bill" and I am usually receiving these 45-60 days post my date of service. I have been dealing with Ana Cortez since June about their billing issues and needless to say it has been a negative experience. Voicemails are not returned timely. When I do speak to her on the phone and request documentation to be emailed to me, she communicates it will be done by end of day, and then I am having to follow up days later to see why I still haven't received. Additionally, I have emailed Ana now on two attempts with no returned response. I was in the office earlier this week and expressed my concerns to the office manager, and still haven't heard a response from either the manager or Ana regarding my complaints. I have requested to receive paper or email statements and you would think that would be a simple request since it is my patient right.... not the case. Their Notice of Patient Privacy Practice has no mention of their billing practice process nor do I show a Patients Bill of Rights that communicates this. At the initial point of registration you are asked to complete a form that states "having read this form and talked with the physician, and/or staff, my signature below acknowledges that I voluntarily give my authorization and consent to providing requested information for my credit card to be charged accordingly for the conditions listed above".... however, this is a one page form so there is no "above" that is referenced. -When I asked for clarification on this form at the front desk, I was told it was in the event of cancelled appointments or defaulted payments to which I agreed to sign as I support this cause for payment. If you "decline" to sign, the bottom form states "in the event you do not complete and agree to this authorization TFP will collect $120.00 deposit when you arrive for your office visit. TFP will process your insurance claim. After the Explanation of Benefits is received from your insurance company, TFP will refund any excess payments to you within 14 days." -Seeing as how my insurance company has and will continue to cover these services, it doesn't make sense as a patient to pay this up front and since they are submitting bills 60 days post discharge, this is a significant lag time, as a patient, to wait for $120.00 to be returned to my account. Additionally, with the experience I have faced dealing with Ana- I do not have confidence in the timely turn around of this process. -I did seek clarification on this process at my last appointment and the front desk communicated this was a "one time" deposit of $120.00 that would be used. In reading the above statement, you can dedact that this is not the case so there is clearly mis-communication in the billing process within the office, which is why the situation became an issue in the first place. Texas Family Physicians doesn't have a patient bill of rights indicating their process, their credit card form doesn't clearly indicate this process and what is verbally communicated at the front desk doesn't match the process that is being executed by Ana Cortez and the billing team. Short story long... I really love Amanda Gay and she has been the sole purpose for why I have continued being a patient of this practice. This location is a drive out of my way that has to be planned/scheduled time away from work but I enjoy Amanda Gay as a practitioner and her bed side manner with her patients. She truly is a joy to be around. I hope that the back end operations of this practice can be straightened out so that this practice doesn't lose patients because my patients is wearing thin. read more

Will NEVER return or recommend anyone else to this practice!! My husband & I have been going to both locations for over a year now & really liked the NP, Ivone Bickham but the rest of the practice is a completly different story. It had slowly started going down hill but we kept returning as we liked being treated by Ivone. Now we can no longer tolerate the fact that no one is willing to help us when it's actually needed and we do not plan on being around to see if it gets any better! From the front desk girl, Heidi, to the billing department, Anna, the practice is completly unorganized & they seem to have no idea how to work in the medical industry. Just slimming down to the major recent incidents (as there have been many).....Heidi scheduled my husband for an Echocardiogram 3 different times within 2 months with the dr who comes in from another practice to provide that service, but yet wasn't at this practice any of the days she scheduled him on. Even after I confirmed the 3rd appt scheduled 2 days prior to his appt (as he had already had this happen twice before), he showed up & was told yet again (after waiting a while in the lobby) that the specific dr he was needing to see was not there that day...AGAIN! My husband spoke with the manager, Stephanie, but after hearing him out only said she apologized but there's nothing she could do except schedule him for another appointment. No thank you. When I called & spoke with Heidi of the incident she not only told me that the dr who comes for that specific procedure has a confusing schedule, she admitted to not going over her schedule prior to the patients coming in. So obviously there is no preperation being done for their patients. Her exact words at a different point of the conversation were "I'm not very bright". After receiving bills from a physical my husband is required to have yearly & is 100% covered through his insurance, the billing department, nurses or anyone who listened to the many voicemails I left were never able to help me, they would always "get back to me" yet never call me back. It became a weekly phone call I had to make as my insurance said they would cover the rest of what I was being billed if the medical practice would re-code the lab work sent in as preventative which is what we were told his appointment was. Finally Ivone, the NP, called me back this past week (the physical was in July) to hear me out & see if she could be of any help as I had to basically beg Anna to have anyone else call me back since she was unable to provide any assistance. Our insurance also provided us with information that they were billed for 2 different appointments for my husband when he went in to have a mole removed on a different day. So not only was my insurance charged more, we were charged more. When this was mentioned to Anna in billing, she said there was nothing stating that in clinical notes so she would have to have the head nurse call me back. That never happened either. When I finally figured out exactly how much to pay as I was tired of fighting to get them to re-bill my insurance as asked, I tried to set up a payment arrangement where they automatically took the money from me on the 15 for 3 months, that didn't happen either. So I just called to make a payment over the phone & was asked if I could just mail a check as that would be easier. They want your money but have a hard time trying to figure out how to take a payment when you want to give it. That same phone call I figured out they had stored my husband's credit card info from his actual co-pay from his last visit made in July when she asked if I would like to charge that card? That was never asked of from him nor me, so they keep your credit card info on file without your knowledge! Not only have we never even met the actual doctor of this practice, no one seemed bothered when I told them we would be transferring out of their practice or when we spoke to any management of our problems. I don't honestly think this review will go very far but I truly hope they get their staff together & start some improvement techniques for all their pateints sake. I have been a patient of Dr. Molina for 2 1/2 years. He and his staff are the best I mean the best. I have had numerous health issues. He, Michelle, Katrina"Cat Scratch Fever" (her nickname),Ellen and the newby Stephanie are very personable friendly and there at a moments notice to assist me, They are kind,caring,empathic,smypathic,knowledgable,and just plain right there in the moment with you on what ever the issue maybe.
