When I moved south I was waiting for a place to stand out as a traditionally southern eatery and it took a bit but I found her. The service was excellent both times we dined in. The kitchen is open and efficient, the Diet Coke was crispy, the burger tasty and you can just tell the locals love it and come often. Great for a quick bite or carry out. Have been to this location a few times when I couldn't make it downtown. Nice enough. Parking is a bit of a headache if you go during lunchtime. Same nice respectful counter service as the downtown location. Of course I got a cheesy western which was DEEEEEEEEEELICIOUS () and some crinkle cut fries. My first time ordering here and I ordered from this restaurant through DOORDASH. I got a hotdog all the way, onion rings, three slices of chocolate, meringue pie, and a sweet tea. The picture they posted looked great so I decided to get three slices for my family to try. Boy was i fooled. The hot dog was very hard and dried out. The onion rings were very fresh and crispy and tasted great. The sweet tea could've been better but it was OK. The pie was the needle in the haystack. Not only was it a totally different pie, but it had a stale taste and very crumbly like dirt or dust almost. I just wanted what was advertised. Homey short order kitchen for breakfast and lunch that has great chili. Food: Hotdogs, eggs, chili, and cheese in any combination you can think of. Seven kinds of pie in stock, although the pecan pie I had was store bought I believe. I had two of their hots all the way with a coffee and a slice of pie. The real star here is their chili, that is very flavorful without being spicy. Service: The staff of 2, a cook and a waitress were quickly and pleasantly taking care of everyone with speed. Yes Sir and Yes Mams were being volleyed back and forth between the staff and the patrons. Location: All bar seating with plenty of free street parking outside. Went by at lunch and ordered 5 hot dogs and paid with a debit card. Left store and took food to my wife and she pointed out I was charge $1.50 extra for extra relish in 3 of the 5 hotdogs and also a 50 cent convenience fee. Then to top it off they charged 11.3% tax on those bogus charges. 5 hotdogs with just normal relish, normal chili and NO onions and the total was $21.69. That's for 5 hotdogs. Well, I won't be going to that place or any other Texas Inns ever again. OBTW....all 5 hotdogs had buns as hard as rocks after taking them 3 blocks away. As good as it gets for a diner. Great people, affordable food but I can't help but feel like some of the items are like 50 cents more than I would hope to pay for. This doesn't seem like much but when you're usually getting like 3 items, it adds up! Nonetheless, the people who work here are polite, efficient, and accurate. The mark of a professional diner. I reccomend the corndogs here, fried to order and taste great with that hot oil dripping off practically burning your lips as you sink your teeth in and then regret all the decisions you've made up until that point. Knowing you're not going to be able to taste for about 2 hours after this point and finding a layer of burned skin on the inside of your mouth, you just keep eating. I grew up here in Lynchburg. Texas Inn on Main Street downtown Lynchburg. It was the number I hangout for all teenagers and young adults in town. So when I visited cornerstone I was reminiscing and hopeful that the style and taste had not changed. I was heartbroken . I ordered the western burger: bun cold, the whole sandwich didn't even represent what I ate those four years I went there from school to get the best burger in town. Disappointed doesn't describe it! The person fixing my cheese fries did not warm the cheese or the fries so I got a solidified clump of food on a plate. I have been heartbroken ever since. The waitress asked if she could fix it for me but I said that I was not feeling it any longer. That was 2020 and I haven't been back. Guess some things change. read more

How do you follow a great, unique burger? How about no-frills nostalgia? Texas Tavern, serving cheap and simple eats on the CHEAP! The Cheesy Western is their famous sandwich. A burger patty, fried egg, cheese, onions, pickles, and their sweet relish. A small cheeseburger is slightly larger then a White Castle slider, with onions and pickles. Round it out with their classic chili on a hot dog. Apparently it's been around since 1930. Now it might take a bit to fill you up with those tiny beef patties they have, but at those prices, it's a fun treat. Cool, little historic place. read more

Very small and cramped location. The server is constantly just screaming the orders at the cooks even though she was about 3' from them so she could've just taken a couple steps and told them the order. They were out of several items at dinner time on a Tuesday so I don't really see why they'd be out. Also, the server didn't know what they were out of so she'd only find out when she tried to get it and realized it wasn't there. Also, the restaurant was not enforcing social distancing in any way, shape, or form, but we were getting take out so we just ignored that so we could go. Then, we got back with our food. The "cheesy western" may have had cheese on it somewhere, but it certainly wasn't cheesy when I couldn't even taste cheese. The barbecue burger was the same thing with barbecue sauce. The Sprite tasted off on their soda mix. The orange juice was good, but it was just some OJ they bought at the store and then poured in a cup. And the fries were both over seasoned and yet somehow bland. We got the chili cheese fries, which they sent the chili and cheese in separate cups. We appreciated that, especially since I had the drain the grease from the chili (spoken just a cup of seasoned ground beef) before we could eat it. I heard a lot about the Texas Inn in Lynchburg and finally got an opportunity to check it out! I went to the newer location because it was closest to me. I figured I'd go with their "Cheesy Western Burger" and a chili dog. The chili dog was just okay; I'm not a fan of the Jesse Jones red hot dogs, but I'm getting used to them. Compared to the chili dogs at Moore's convenience store on US460, the Texas Inn dog couldn't hold a candle to Moore's. I moved on to the "famous" Cheesy Western." I've had a fried egg on a burger before and it was good. The Cheesy Western has a big helping of scrambled eggs on the burger with cheese and their house relish, which tasted to me like regular relish mixed with mustard. My opinion: scrambled eggs do not make a good burger topping. They don't have a lot of taste and its spongy texture is not great on top of a burger. To be honest, I couldn't even taste much of the hamburger due to the stuff piled on to it. I believe I also had onion rings with it? If I did, they were nothing worth remembering. Service was okay, but it was a takeout order. Also, I left the restaurant and immediately went to my car where I ate the food and it was already room temperature. Maybe the original location is better? Perhaps I'll give it a try someday. I'll try ordering something else to see if it's better. I won't be trying the Cheesy Western again! This joint has a diner atmosphere for sure. There aren't actually tables or booths, just a long stretch of barstools that spans the whole restaurant. The prices are fair, but be wary of the fact that their burgers are microscopic, and would actually be considered sliders to a true Texan. On that note, if you are looking for a true Texas experience or if you are a Texas traveler, such as myself, happening by the Lynchburg area, you will find much disappoint in The Texas Tavern as it does not serve Blue Bell Ice Cream and carries Pepsi products, not Coca-Cola. Not much else to this place, kind of a bland experience overall. If you are looking for a fun place to eat on the cheap, consider elsewhere. If you looking to silence a desolate tummy and not much else, by all means, do your wallet a favor and stop here I suppose. read more

This is the best greasy spoon in Lynchburg. This is my go to late night spot. If it is late at night, especially on the weekend, there is no better choice. Get yourself a good chili burger, some fries listen to some good local banter and get some friendly service. It's not fancy, it just is what it is but it has a great vibe for the late night visits.
