The pie is out of this review, it is good and they have made a name because of that. I want to voice my disappointment with the lunch special King Ranch Chicken. I honestly felt let down, it is $7.45+tax and I got a small salad, a small roll and a bunch of nacho chips partially covered with King Ranch Chicken sauce. I counted and it had one chunk of chicken. I asked the attendant about the chicken and she said that is made with "shredded chicken" but I could not find traces of it. She did not do the minimum effort to find out why I was asking, she just said the verdict. The thing has chicken believe it or not. This place USE TO BE the best Pie place in central texas. From 2006-2007 they made the BEST fruit pies I've ever tasted. There cherry pies and blueberry pies were awesome. Each were filled to the max with fruit. The filling was not very wet, and not much sugar or anything else was added. It was the real fruit flavor that made this pie special. Fast forward to 2009. I eagerly awaited to try the cherry and blueberry pie again. WHAT A HEARTBREAKER. The pie is totally different. There is now about 1/2 the amount of fruit. The filling is wet and full of sugar and goo. The crust and top is still excellent. But the filling is only on par with HEB quality. I am extremly saddened by this change in receipe. I would willingly pay DOUBLE to have the old receipt pies back. They WERE that good. read more

I have lived in Kyle for 2 years. I have a special passion for really GOOD chicken pie. On 2 different occasions my housemate and myself purchased chicken pies (the first one was a large one, the second time we had 2 small individual ones). We were quite disappointed on both occasions. The pies contained very meager quantities of chicken meat combined with small amounts of commercially prepared canned or frozen kernels of corn, peas and carrots. The large pie we ate was super-saturated with chicken gravy and contained little else, and the interior of small pies were both exceedingly dry. Adding insult-to-injury, on each occasion the pies were found to be excessively salty and quite bland in their use of other seasonings. Both of us are in agreement that we will NOT patronize this business in the future. read more

Visited earlier today. All employees very professional, friendly and courteous. Unfortunately, bought 2 full size cherry pies. The pies were dry and between the topping and crust, virtually no real cherry filling. Approximately 80% of these pies are crust and topping. Hard baked. Needed a jack hammer to get passed the topping to the almost non-existent cherry filling. Though I haven't tried them all, I assume that all the pies with the crunch topping are made the same way. Way too bad. Definitely not like momma's. Second recommendation, HEB has great fruit pies with less presentation fru-fru, more moist and better fillings. Fantastic! My in-laws were in town, and I had just suffered the tragic demise of my carrot cake. I called Texas Pie Company to make sure they were going to be open- it's a holiday weekend. And even though they weren't going to be open for another hour, the kind man on the phone said to come on over. We got a pineapple peach pie which was positively phenomenal, and my daughter got a cookie which she claims was "The best cookie she ever had with a monkey on it!" I may never bake again. read more

I come here now and then hoping for great pie. It's always good, but to be great the crust needs to be better. The top isn't flakey, and the bottom is underdone to the point of being gummy and chewy. Not just sometimes - all the time. I think this should be easy to fix and the result would be a truly great pie. read more

Hey, pies are good, Dutch Apple very good. You'll love this place if you crave a side order of attitude from Iggy, the guy behind the counter. I went down there and bought 7- 3" pies for taste testing and felt hustled by him. I think I should mention that at the time, website said pies are $12. I went there and the board said $13 dollars and he handed me a list for future reference and pies were $14. When I called to order the 15 pies for our wedding the following week, I mentioned the price differences he said ," our costs for everything went up". OK, I'm reasonable, just tell me how much they are going to be on the 3rd. He said "PROBABLY $14." Nice, wouldn't even assure the CUSTOMER buying 15 pies of a price. Day of wedding, the sweetest young woman went down there to pick up pies and he gave her the attitude he was wanting to give me! Sorry, this place has the 'only game in town' mindset. Maybe I have just had bad luck with this place but every time I've gone here I've been disappointed. To begin with the food items are average at best. I had the meatloaf which was OK but nothing to write home about and I also have tried the King Ranch Chicken which was more like eating nachos than a casserole. On a different occasion a coworker of mine ordered chicken noodle soup which was more broth than anything and only had about 6 pieces total of chicken and vegetables in it. As for the desserts that they are known for the pies taste as if they are frozen and are just thawed out and the cookies taste similar and are sometimes hard as rocks. Overall, the decor and the sign outside are cool and I haven't had any negative experiences with the staff but the taste and freshness of the food is severely lacking. read more

We came in to eat today, Saturday, at about 2:45. We sat at a table for a few minutes because we weren't aware that you placed your order up at the front counter. When we got to the counter, it was still not quite 3:00. The cashier was putting up a sign that said the kitchen was closed. That was a little unnerving because we saw the store was open until 4:00. We said not to worry about it, we'll just leave. He said nah, don't worry about it, we'll take your order, no problem. Then the girl in the back started slamming stuff around and he said somebody is mad. Again, I told him not to worry about it. He said no problem. I thought that was nice. Well, then my boyfriend ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and he said "That's not gonna happen". Really? Then why did he say he would take our order if that wasn't what he intended to do? Maybe he was more concerned about getting out the door by 4:00 to go to his other job he informed he had than he was in actually taking care of us. My boyfriend was NOT happy and went ahead and ordered something he really didn't want just because he didn't want to be rude when he actually wanted to walk out for the way the guy talked to him. While the food was good, the customer service was terrible!! IF and I mean IF I ever decide to go back, I will turn around and walk out the door if the same people are working. I've been in during the week and everyone was very nice. The weekend employees leave much to be desired. I've been here twice. The first time I came here it wasn't so good (staff and food were subpar; that was 4 years ago). This time; I found the kindest looking staff member and placed my order with her. I brought my two year old daughter with me for a "Mommy/ Daughter date". They didn't have anything in the way of a children menu but I wasn't terribly hungry so we shared a chicken salad sandwich, chips and a cookie. It was pretty tasty (two year old ate it too) I took a gander at the rest of the patrons plates and they also seem to have had decent looking sandwiches. I have to admit the price is right and if I get the same friendly staff member as I did this time. I'll be back. Also, while I was there it seemed that the owner (or manager) was there. I've been trying to get through to them on the phone for the last 45 minutes without success so I figured I'd read the reviews and I have to say, as a resident of Kyle, they are pretty much dead on. The staff is terrible. It's the main reason that we don't eat there more often. There's one guy in particular that makes me feel very unwelcome every time we've gone in. The food is OK, not spectacular. The pies are like the weather....you just don't know how good there are going to be with each visit but most of the time I'm not disappointed. The one redeeming factor is the carry out dinners that they prepare. It's super fast to stop by after work and grab a tray of Chicken A'La King, Lasagna, or Beef Stroganoff and throw it in the oven at home. This way, I get the good food without the bad attitude. You can also call about an hour ahead and they will put it in the oven for you if you're pressed for time. Bottom Line: You shouldn't avoid it but you also shouldn't go in expecting your business to be overly appreciated. read more

I moved to kyle 2 years ago and being born and raised in Riverside, Ca you don't really get to visit many small town pie shops. When I first saw the giant pie above the Texas Pie Company shop I thought that this would be a place that would have good Home Town Pies. I finally decided to purchase one of there pies, for $12! I thought that the price was a little high, but I paid it thinking that the pie would be worth it. Boy was I wrong. I took it home and no one touched it. Besides the initial piece that I tried, it was not touched. The staff was unfriendly. When you walk in they make you feel unwelcome. I only tried one of there pies, but ask me if I would ever purchase another again. I'd rather pick one up form H.E.B anytime. read more

I ordered a pie online to be delivered to Orlando, Florida as a birthday gift. I was assured the pie would be delivered by July 9, the recipient's birthday. When I didn't receive a shipping notice on July 8, I was informed the pie wasn't being shipped until July 9 and would be delivered on the 10th--the day after the birthday. I complained that I was assured it would be delivered on time and I was very disappointed. Texas Pie Company acknowledged their error, issued a refund and apologized. While I was upset the pie wasn't delivered on the day promised, Texas Pie Company made a fan out of me with their customer service. I will give them another chance and order another pie. read more

if the cows from blue bell ice cream are in heaven then the pie chefs in kyle at the texas pie company are truly angels. i have been eating julie albertson's pies for almost 25 years and have still never found a pecan pie that even come close to hers. julie and husband spencer thomas, know widely as the "pie man", started baking pies in the garage of their south austin home around 1990 from great recipes handed down from generations of homemade pies bakers. they also offer a wonderful plate lunch every day. anyone who disagrees with me needs their taste buds fixed as they are surely out of whack. it's a short drive down to the main st. I have had their pies in the past and remembered that they were nothing to write home about. Recently a friend had purchased one of their small casseroles and I loved it so I decided to try one out for myself after a long day at work. I purchased the king ranch casserole and it was just not good. I only ate one small bite out of it simply because I had just paid $14 for it. The next day I called and asked if I could just exchange it for the one my friend had previously purchased and they were extremely rude. I understand that no business likes to hear complaints so in turn I was extremely polite and more than willing to continue to support their business. I was told they would just give me my money back. When I asked if they would like me to bring back the casserole ( I just didn't want them to think I was lying) she quickly replied with a sharp "no I don't want it."
