I paid it anyway. When I arrived for my appointment and was already in the dental chair, a back-office staff member came in with a new quote of $100. This was the first time I was told of any change, and the quote did not even reflect the $25 deposit I had already paid. I calmly asked when they realized the cost would be higher than what I was quoted. No one answered that question. Instead, I was repeatedly told, "This is insurance," in a dismissive, condescending tone. Rather than working toward a solution, they chose to reschedule my appointment. I requested my deposit back and decided not to continue care there. I had driven in from Oklahoma for this appointment, making the situation especially frustrating. As I was leaving, the staff member who originally booked my appointment smiled broadly and said "bye" in a way that felt clearly sarcastic and unprofessional. She had me sit down and put this sharp tool inside my gum and I go ouch! She goes oh yeah you definitely need a deep cleaning! Because your gum is so sensitive and we have to numb it to do deep cleaning and your insurance doesn't cover it or might cover half!! Wait what?!! Yeah! That's right they were absolutely not going to do a regular cleaning because I chose deep cleaning the only option available on their website for my appointment and they needed an excuse so they can make more money!! Ridiculous. And she had the audacity to tell me to go back to my old dentist which is in different state, if I want to do only the regular cleaning! She was very unprofessional and when she was putting the tool in my mouth to do the Xray, it was not covered all the way in plastic.
