I go here a lot and usually everything is good, but this time I am truly disappointed. I made an online order and when I got there I asked if they had an order for my name. I already saw my order with my name and the girl who was doing to go's said I would have to wait because there were others ahead of me. I understood, but after that I ended up waiting 15-20 minutes. It shouldn't take that long to pick up your to go order, especially when it's already there. And the steak I had ordered was way over cooked and the fries were very hard. I avoided this place for a while because of the bad score and bad reviews. My wife and I went on Sunday for lunch and had a wonderful experience. They bring hot rolls with you to the table when you are seated. We both ordered ribs which we're fall off the bone tender. The waitress was great. I also saw a manager watching EVERYTHING going on. We went after a home football game so naturally they were packed. However, we got a table after about 15 minutes and I just was blown away with how quickly we were served! The waitress was nice but not the best I've had, but they were so swamped that as long as she kept bringing us those buns with cinnamon butter, I'm happy! I really want to give the place a better rating, but this time tow things really threw me. 1. They changed the rolls they bring to your table. Instead of the large fluffy rolls that you break open and butter, they sent these flat tasteless chunks of bread. 2. Ordered the prime rib, which ordered medium rare and got rare, not a real big deal. They sent a small plastic cup with Au jus in it, had to ask for more. Really? Is there gold in it or something? 3. Your get two sides. Cool. Got corn and Mac & Cheese. Corn tasted old and stale. Now the m&c. Not kidding, cause the shift manager told me, it was Kraft Mac & Cheese. How disgusting is that. O Like the place and the people, but seriously they need to be serving better food. And one more thing, what is up with the middle of the evening line dance with the waitresses? So I came in to eat here because a couple of your employees Mara G. And Alisa had come to my restaurant Fazolis and they told me they worked here and they bragged about the staff and management and I could tell they truly love their jobs and they were amazing guests so I told them I would return the favor, unfortunately I work the same time they do so I missed them but JACK at the bar took such great care of me, he was so kind and courteous and so nice to recommend the prime rib! They ended up turning it down about halfway through our meal which is why they get 5 stars instead of 4. No room for desert! I had the ribs which were literally fall off the bone. We went again...but I wasn't paying so that's why we were there on a Sunday at lunch. Great ames water, great buns, great blooming onion. Another lukewarm cheeseburger with an unmelted square of American cheese atop. Since this is my 2nd such experience, I have to conclude that they teach their cooks to add the cold cheese to the warm burger last. The barbeque sauce was served warmer than the burger. If the 4 managers cared enough about making sure their guests had a high quality experience every time they came to Texas Roadhouse, they'd read reviews or be there to ask patrons questions and make corrections to their practices. We have tried the Ames Texas Roadhouse location five times now and will not return. The first four times, the food was ok or good but the service was terrible. On two occassions, we waited over 45 minutes for our bill. The waitress repeatedly walked past our table but would not bring the check. We had the same bad experience with food service on all trips. The meal tonight was so bad I couldn't eat it. I had the sirloin with mushrooms, a shrimp skewer, and green beans. Everything was so salty, it was briny. Both the waitress and manager asked if I wanted it boxed to go when I explained it was too salty to eat. When I again said I could not eat it so didn't want to take it with me, they suggested that the next time I place my order I should request "no seasoning". Seriously? I love seasoning, just not salt overkill! Neither of them ever understood that oversalting ruins the food taste. Every other Texas Roadhouse location I have eaten at has been amazing. It is too bad the Ames restaurant staff cannot get their act together. They have permanently lost this family as customers and we will definitely not recommend it to others. read more

I had the ribeye steak medium, "perfect" had for the two sides corn and mashed potatoes "perfect" dinner rolls "tasty" the sauté a onions on the steak mmmmm great!!! Service was good very friendly. I went to Texas Roadhouse today during my short outing in Ames Iowa. This is my first time having ever been to a Texas Roadhouse. I ordered a Pulled Pork Dinner, which came with grilled bread and two sides which I chose a Caesar Salad and Mashed Potatoes with cheese and bacon. Also for an appetizer I had Bacon and Cheese steak fries. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Staff was friendly and attentive. Only downfall was how noisy it got when busy. I will definitely be going back soon. Also you get a pail of peanuts that you can munch on along with homemade bread with a cinnamon and sugar butter. Which is delicious. read more

We visited the restaurants on feb. 21, 2016. About 3:30pm. My husband had a steak, and I had a burger. The food and service was excellent!!! The cleanliness of the restaurant was very poor. I'm not sure why this place is at all popular. This place is nothing more than a gimmicky chain restaurant that draws you in with a nifty Texas theme and treats you to annoying music, subpar service and disgusting food. I heard their steak was supposed to be good, but I've yet to see good food yet. They never cook it correctly and then act inconvenienced if you ask them to cook it more. I may not be an expert on cooking temperatures but I know the difference between medium rare and raw. Their chicken tenders (or whatever they call them) are disgusting. Overcooked, over seasoned and dry. Their lone saving grace is the cinnamon butter they give you for your rolls. The atmosphere is crappy, too. On some occasions the staff gets together and performs a line dance. Music is too loud and boring. Country is okay, but Florida-Georgia Line doesn't really count. The peanut shells on the floor are supposed to add character, but I call it laziness. Just sweep them up or give the diners a peanut pail for the shells. Overall, not a good dining experience. I've had better steaks at Applebee's. read more

Called an hour and a half early that we were gonna be there in an hour and a half and then had to wait over an hour and they still hadn't gotten a table for us but more than six groups ranging from 4-8 like we were got to go before we had and they had arrived at least fifteen minutes after we had. Used to stop in after I got off work on Saturday nights. Could never get ahold of someone to order food to be picked up so I had to stop in and pick it up. Every time I ordered and got home, my order was never right. Complained once got two free meals (which I didn't want). Last time I stopped in no one would help me. When I walked out the manager who I asked to order from finally said he would help me when I told him to forget about it he yelled at the girl who was supposed to be taking carry out orders from across the restaurant! Ridiculous reservation process. Called ahead at 6:45 was told 8 pm. Arrived at 7:50 only to wait until 8:40 to be seated. Gave up a reservation elsewhere thinking this place would give an earlier dining time. Service was poor.ordered 3 appetizers 2 luke warm on delivery third arrived just before the food and twice. Refused that one since only ordered and wanted one. Drinks -only the beer order was correct the first time. One drink finally arrived 20 min. after the others that were sent back as wrong and needing redone. One order of vegetables steaming hot the second nearly cold. All food mediocre. Bus boy at next table slamming dishes was obnoxious. Servers taking time to go off in a group and do cheers leaving a full house of guests is silly at best. Especially considering the wait times for seating, food delivery and check backs. Token apologies and excuses for all problems. Noisy and unpleasant dining experience all in all. We love the Texas Roadhouse in Johnston. We have had poorly prepared food at the Ames location. I had a hanburger that was very compressed and thin., unlike any I have had at other locations. The same night my husband had ribs that with a fork he could not get the meat off the bone, they were rock hard. Sometimes the baked potatoes are rolled in oil and salt and sometimes not. Staff is friendly. Hoping they can improve so we do no have to drive to Johnston or go another place. read more

Upon entering the restaurant and readying the chalk board it confirmed the appetizer promotion. After ordering the gift card we were told the offer was no longer valid. I ordered Prime Rib with a sweet potato and salad. The salad was fine. The sweet potato was not done and the prime rib was over done to the point it was tough. Our waitress was glad to get me another sweet potato quickly. I should have sent the prime rib back also but tried to eat it. I brought most of it home and will try to soften it up as a left over. First we had to wait 20 minutes for a table, they said they had to clean one off and when we got to our table there was about ten other clean empty tables ready for someone to sit at. Then our waitress was inexperienced, unfriendly, and seem like she didn't want to be there. Asked us three times if we were ready to order within four minutes of sitting down then got irritated with us each time when we told her we weren't ready. After figure out what we wanted which we decided on just appetizers it took 45 minutes to bring them out to us and they were COLD. Sent them back and waited another 15 minutes. And they were awful. Wings tasted like they dumped a whole bottle of Tabasco sauce on them, potato were dry, shrimp was over cooked, steak fries had to much salt on them and the chili tasted like it can right out of a can. The waitress brought our ticket without asking how our meal was or if we need anything else. Only thing she said was, don't want to forget to give this to you then walked away. The only good thing that came out of the whole meal was talking to the manager. She made it right and spoke to the waitress right in front of us. Needless to say we won't go back again.
