If I could give a million stars to an eatery on Yelp, it would be this one. A couple of Fridays ago, I had a long travel day. Since airfare between Toronto and Minneapolis was still highway robbery during a seat sale, I chose the cheaper option of flying between Toronto and Winnipeg, and doing a road trip between Winnipeg and Minneapolis. Cheaper. I also like to drive. My day started at 4:40 am Eastern. I got to Winnipeg just before 10 am. I was ready for food by the time I got to Grand Forks, which is almost the midpoint between Winnipeg and Minneapolis. Friends have told me to go visit Texas Roadhouse. What did it for me was seeing my Yelp friend, Guy, take a photo of a beautifully cooked sirloin steak. I wanted it. Badly. I've done this route between Winnipeg and Rochester, MN countless times. However, I was a bit rusty with a rest stop just north of Grand Forks. I forgot that it's shared with northbound and southbound traffic, so I needed to turn left to access it instead of right. I didn't bother slamming on the brakes and going into a tailspin. It was cold and the ramp was icy. My bladder needed attention by the time I got to his eatery. I backed into a snow-covered, frozen parking spot and walked in. I got a woman at the front. She asked me if I was okay with bar seating. I said that I was if this eatery was full. It wasn't at roughly 2 pm on a Friday. I asked for a booth instead. I got a man taking me to the booth. We passed by a display of raw steaks. "Did you want to pick out your steak?" he asked me. "I'd need to see a menu. It's my first time here," I replied. I saw the washrooms after I asked him where they were. He asked me if I wanted peanuts. I said yes. I basically took off my jacket and attended to my bladder. The women's washroom was clean. I used it again just before I hit the road. The booth that I was in was comfy. I got a bag of peanuts with the shells on. I had one bag during my stay in Minneapolis. Delicious! I got rolls to start. Each roll was fluffy and warm, slightly sweet, with butter brushed on top. They come with cinnamon honey butter, which was to-die-for delectable. Savanna was my server.Communication between staffers was incredible. She found out that I was a newbie. She said that I could sample three sides for free. Wow! I tried the following samplers: - Texas red chili - Green beans - Mushrooms Excellent! The chili was flavourful and had ground beef. The green beans were perfectly done with bacon. The mushrooms were hearty and yummy. The sampler was brought out by the Mia, the marketing manager. I got an offer for a free side dish the next time. She was friendly. I wasn't expecting such a warm welcome. They likely don't get too many travellers these days, especially from Canada. I order the following for my meal: - 8-ounce sirloin with garlic shrimp, garlic bread, corn, and apple sauce - Diet Coke I got my Diet Coke with my peanuts and rolls. It was fizzy and cold. I got refills often. My meal came with two sides. I loved the corn and apple sauce. The former had butter. The latter was my dessert because my meal was exceptionally filling! My main had arrived. I got the sirloin steak medium. It was flavourful and perfectly done. My mouth is watering as I long for another sirloin from this place. Savanna got me sauteed onions on the side. They were excellent with the steak and were complimentary. The garlic bread under everything was a surprise hit. They were garlicky and buttery. I still think about it. There was a gift card promotion. If I bought a $30 gift card, I got $5 for free. Gift cards don't expire and can be used at any Texas Roadhouse. I said yes. I settled the bill at the table. There was a payment system that worked efficiently. I tapped and was done. My server took service to a whole new level. She asked me where I was coming from. I told her my story. She was so thrilled to have me. She asked if she could send me off with a fresh order of rolls. OMG! I felt like I got the VIP treatment. It was so kind. I got four rolls with a side of cinnamon honey butter in a box, all packed up for me. She also threw in another bag of peanuts. I had them for breakfast. They were so perfect warmed up. I slathered the cinnamon honey butter like the world was going to end. Fabulous! For someone who just wanted to rest her eyes from staring at flat land for hours and get some grub, this place made me feel special. I don't know if they do that for tourists like this Canadian or it's the usual treatment. I loved it. Thanks to everyone for making my first Texas Roadhouse experience a special and wonderful one. Compared to other chain restaurants the food is consistently good. We waited a little longer to be seated. Once at our table all went smoothly. Our server Navie was all smiles and even though it was busy she made sure to check on us. I had the barbecue chicken and 6oz steak. The chicken was a breast piece with barbecue sauce on it, tasted fine.I Love their pillow soft biscuits which are now in the freezer section at local supermarkets. This Texas Roadhouse is definitely a mixed bag. Because of its location in Grand Forks, it feels like there are not a lot of other sit down options, so they get a huge amount of foot traffic on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It gets busy enough that it can feel extremely annoying and unreasonable at times. Parking is difficult during the heavier hours and the waitlist can be up to an hour, which I have experienced multiple times. As for the inside, it is a typical Texas Roadhouse. The service is OK and the food is also just kind of OK. I have tried the prime rib here before and I do not recommend it. The flavor is not great and I have had much better prime rib at many other restaurants. I also do not know if I recommend getting a steak here in general since it feels overpriced for what you get. I do recommend getting the chicken fried steak, which is one of my favorite items here, or one of the burgers since they do a good job with those. And definitely load up on the sweet rolls, which are my absolute favorite part of this place. I would skip dessert since it is not that great. Overall it is fine, but the crowds and long waits make it a tough choice unless you are craving something specific. read more

I took a trip to Grand Forks recently with a friend, and he suggested here as the food has excellent value. I should start by saying that service was amazing here, the workers here seemed to really like the place and you can tell they're treated very well. I ordered a cactus blossom and a medium rare hand cut sirloin. The cactus blossom is well known at Texas Roadhouse, and comes with a chipotle sauce that tasted really good. The sirloin steak was grilled perfectly, and the price was absolutely fair for the quality I got. It certainly wasn't the best steak I've ever ate, but it's definitely up there for best value steak. Will definitely recommend Texas Roadhouse for those road trips where there are few other options! read more

We have been to this location several times in the past, it was always ok for our taste. hit and miss on the service and food and always very noisy. Where we used to have bulk peanuts everywhere and all over the floors have been replaced with sealed bags of peanuts placed in buckets on the tables for snacking. Nicer alternative to thousands of hands digging in peanuts. Our reason for the visit was our grandsons birthday dinner. This is always his favorite place to eat. Our waiter forgot his name was super great seated us quickly and quickly brought our drinks. We were a table of 5 adults and two older kids so we were a lot. Of course place was packed as always being a Saturday afternoon, reservations made same day only online but make sure when you get there you go in to check and make sure they got you in. Still a very noisy place, but people were happy. The rolls came out super hot and so very soft and fluffy with that wonderful cinnemon butter. Let me add the rolls and the butter have always been consistently good. Today however, OMG, the best ever they were bigger than we have had before and believe it or not softer if that is possible. Throughout the dinner we ended up getting 5 baskets of them with butter. Three of the people I didn't get pictures of the plates which I wish I did, combos, steak and shrimp skewers and steak and ribs, then another had a chicken fried Sirloin, with a side of big baked potato and pretty good side of corn, they were highly impressed with the twisted mozzarella sticks appetizer. The tender plate that I did picture was quite a few super crispy and moist chicken breast pieces with a good tasting ranch dressing and flavorful apple sauce that was typical. Our dinner knowing we were going to pig out on rolls and blooming onion (free birthday appetizer) we decided to share the entree which was a chicken fried Sirloin, we opted to have the cream gravy and asked for a brown gravy served on the side, and two salads. Our waiter was nice enough to bring us an extra plate. The steak was so so good, larger than they have been before and about 1/2" thick and a nice heavy crispy crust well seasoned, brown gravy very good, cream gravy little bland but both are from a mix. Salads fresh and well made. The blooming onion was better than they had been in the past they were thicker sliced pedals mainly eating fat pieces of onion. This time they cut the onions thinner which made them so much better and so crispy the crust was very tasty as well, my grandson liked it too and after a bit pulled the onions out and just ate his crust. Our waiter was so friendly and so helpful, and everything was done right the first time. Even at the end when two of us requested rolls and butter to bring home. 12 rolls and butter for $4.99. Yummmm, today was a very very good day for us and Texas Roadhouse next time I will be very happy to go back. Wasn't super hungry so I decided to order the Rangers Meal (kids) with grilled chicken and a side salad (costs extra), as well as included drink. The meal didn't list that it came with rolls so imagine my surprise to see a dozen in my order as the kids meal came with several in addition to my 6 ordered on the side. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy! The side salad came with one portion of dressing (Italian) and was just the perfect amount. I tossed the chicken onto the salad, shook it up in the container and it made for a great meal on the go. The soda was equivalent to that of a medium at most fast food places which was a nice surprise. All in all, from the ordering and pickup process to parking and finding my way inside was seamless. The staff were friendly and welcoming and I feel the meal was a great value offering plenty of food. I don't visit Texas Roadhouse often but that will likely change soon. It was a pleasurable dining experience. It's hard to find food quality that meets expectations anymore as everyone is trying to cut corners and reduce portion sizes. Not the case here. On our first night of vacation, we were lucky enough to stay within walking distance to this restaurant. We don't have one near where we live. The Grand Forks location is really clean with friendly staff. We were seated promptly. Our server, Lydia, was really sweet and helpful. Our food came out in a reasonable time and was delicious. My husband had the Roadkill and loved it. I went with the Chicken Critters and enjoyed them as well. Really crispy. I told him I didn't want it and he could take it back. The rest of the dinner was mid at best. He forgot to bring out the dinner rolls. We caught another waiter while they were walking by and they brought us some. The person dropping off our food just set it all down on the table and I shuffled everyone the dinner they ordered. Our waiter stopped by asked us if we needed any steak sauce and after they disappeared until it was time to bring the check. So you will see the price I have on here is a little higher but that is because I had gift cards so I treated us to the best! This place is just great and everyone if you are around you should come here! It is always very busy but you can go online and get put on a waitlist so we did this and once we got there we maybe waited 5 minutes max. One downside is their mixer had broken so they couldn't keep up with the buns but we did finally get some and they were just as good as always. I love Texas Roadhouse. It might be a chain running from Anchorage, AK to Augusta, ME but it's worth it simply because their sweet rolls are THE best. I don't give 5 star reviews often but the rolls get the 5th star for me. They are light, fluffy, chewy, sweet, come warm with sweet butter. And Every time I ask with guilt for a 2nd basket they are kind to give it and of course I take 3-4 rolls home because they are so good. I'm glad the rolls and food are made pretty much the same in most states as I travel a lot. The only things I was a bit miffed about: I sat right in front of the waiter for a good 20 minutes with nothing but my silverware and drink before I asked him politely for a basket of rolls. I guess maybe at this Grand Forks location I have to ask? Not sure but usually they bring it to the table for starters. Then i was asked by a nice female manager (?) who was running around making sure everyone had everything they needed and she asked if I needed anything and I told her I was waiting for rolls I just asked for after 20 minutes of sitting here. She was very nice and attentive the whole time. She was the one to ask most of the time if I needed anything throughout the meal and not my waiter who wasn't inundated with customers. It was pretty late when I went. So the 5 stars is for her great service and kindness and friendliness and for the waiter giving me the extra rolls at the end. Since I've been here for the last month, I've been here a couple times now. The food is hit or miss, but the service was on point both times, no matter how busy the restaurant was. We came here before 6PM for an earlier dinner because they have a $9.99 meal before 6PM, but even after it is a couple dollars difference. We were seated pretty quick, and the fresh bread was brought to our table. We got fried pickles, which the first time was great, but the second time it was too salty. We ordered our food and it came out really quick. Both times I went I had the chili, which they top it off with onions and cheddar as the side and it came out super quick to start eating. The first time, my girlfriend had the country fried steak and it was delicious. So the second time I came, I had ordered it. We had a party of seven, and were seated at two different tables, while a party a four was seated at a larger table. Since we were seated at two different tables, one server was great, and the other one not so great. While half of our party was served their food, and were checked on, the other half of our party to had to wait, and the server barely came over to check on them. This server was a poor server. Thankfully, one of the items was removed from the tab, as the meat was not cooked per customer's request. That is the least that could have been done. I enjoy visiting this location for the bread and butter and good food. Some times they can be very busy and you may need to wait to be seated. Previously they would have free peanuts in the waiting area but I don't believe that is offered anymore. Right when you walk in they have the warm buns under the heat lamps next to the meat case. They have a large menu with plenty of options. I would recommend the Onion Blossom for an appetizer, this is one item my family chooses to order almost everytime we visit. The salads and ribs are pretty large so you can take half of it home for another meal. The country fried chicken is very good as well! On my last visit they forgot to add an ingredient onto the salads which was a bit disappointing. As it was busy, the food took a bit longer than we thought to cook. We were waiting a while for our food after we finished our appetizer (which arrived fairly quickly after ordering). The server Dakota at our recent visit was very professional, attentive, and personable. Free peanuts are always waiting for you on the table when you arrive and you get an unlimited supply of bread and butter for the table. Most tables are a step up layout but I have seen a few tables with a handicap accessible setup. Overall, I would recommend the food as everything tastes great, the service has been excellent, and the bread and butter is a must try. Let's just start this review off by informing y'all that my husband and I just moved to ND from TEXAS. The Texas Roadhouse location in Grand Forks made food that tasted way better than anything we ever had at the Texas Roadhouse IN Texas. The loaded fries were to dieeeee for, and the ribeyes were juicy and made perfectly to order (I highly recommend medium rare, omg sooooo good). My lady and I came here on 9/25. It was around 8:30 pm. When we walked in the girl at the front counter was really rude and nasty and had a really bad attitude and kept rolling her eyes & giving us side eye looks. we were finally seated by someone else who was friendly enough. we sat down and we start having conversation. about 20 minutes into it our server greeted us and asked us for our order. lo and behold a server comes over and sits on the same exact booth as me (she was on her knee leaning over the counter) and starts talking to the girl that was giving us nasty looks at the counter for over 40 minutes instead of doing her job. my lady and I couldn't hear each other over their screeching, giggles, and inappropriate conversations. We practically shouted at each other the entire time. And there was another server wearing some weird pattern leggings who was an older woman who kept giving us nasty looks and staring at us our entire meal and just giving us a really peculiar attitude for no reason whatsoever except jealousy. which is what I'm very certain the girl at the front counter gave us nasty looks and was rude for. I'm getting pretty sick of the bs and staff not being held accountable. Way early last year my lady and I came here also. the girl that gave us our to go order at the window was nasty, was cussing at us, and proceeded to start running her mouth. We had never met her before. when we came in there a few months ago, she was working again and started saying some junk under her breath, rolled her eyes, and started flipping us off, & giving us nasty looks while she was staring us down. Nice to know that the manager actually gives a crap about the patrons. because if any establishment actually cared about their patrons, they wouldn't allow someone to continue working there that has an attitude like that and does things like that to the customers. I stopped here for a quick dinner while on a business trip from Fargo. I stopped in at 5pm because I had another engagement and I wanted to beat the dinner rush. There was no wait for seating. I did wait about 10 minutes before I was given a waitress. She came over and I gave her my drink order and also my food order. I wanted the prime rib and requested the 12oz cut with a baked potato and green beans with a side of horseradish. When my food came to the table I asked if what I received was prime rib and was ensured it was much to my objection that it was a steak. I asked for au jus and she explained they didn't give au jus with it. I explained again I thought it was a steak and that I never had prime rib without au jus. She left the table. In a hurry at this point I did have the steak. She returned and explained she entered the prime rib in as a ribeye and did I want to order instead the prime rib. Again, I was in a hurry and at this point I was 45 minutes into service. I explained I didn't have time to wait for another preparation. She left and came back with the bill and said because you are in a hurry I can take your payment now. I was a little surprised at the comment. She was in training I later found out as another waitress came over and asked how she did and I explained the situation. She apologized and left. To know I ordered something that I didn't get and explain my concerns to a deaf ear I was surprised to not at least have a manager come say hello and sorry about the visit. Standard chain steak place. Not bad, not great, but it works. One complaint.....we went to the bar while we waited for our table and each got a margarita because there was a big sign for "mugaritas $2.50" We were given our margaritas and were charged about $7 each. When we asked the bartender what gives...he said we didn't order the "mugarita" which comes in a mug instead of a margarita glass....seriously? There was like no alcohol in the margarita either. The waitress once we got sat was very friendly. Food came out quickly and she kept our drinks topped off. I got a caesar salad (lettuce was a little wilted) and the ribs and chicken dinner. I have to admit, I judged the book by its cover. The ribs looked horrible when she brought them out, they were gnarled and dry looking and I posted a picture of them on here. One thing I love about the U.S. is how unbelievably cheap food is and of course, the portions you get. We were wanting to have some steak upon our shopping trip south of the border. Well, we drive by this place and I was pretty sure it would serve up some steaks just by the name alone. The place was very busy Saturday at 6 pm but our wait wasn't too long. The staff were extremely well trained with their script to greet us and drop off a basket of their freshly baked bread which is apparently baked every 5 minutes. The bread was good though I didn't love the cinnamon butter that came with it. I opted for the Dallas Filet (8 ounce) for $20 and it came with two sides. I chose the loaded baked potato so that had butter, sour cream, chives and bacon (not low cal at all) and some steamed broccoli to counteract the loaded potato choice. Meat was cooked to a perfect medium rare and wasn't too over seasoned. U.S. beef tastes different than Canadian beef due to the different feed (more corn used in the U.S) so that changes the taste of the meat. But it was still good because the meal I got would have cost me about $30-$38 in Canada. This place claims that all sides are made in house, if so the rice was terribly over seasoned cause it was nearly inedible. Love the complimentary peanuts they give you here so it's obviously not a good choice for anyone with peanut allergies as there's peanut shells everywhere in the restaurant. Service is extremely bubbly and a bit contrived but I am always in awe of how the fantastic service one gets in the U.S. in restaurants and retails stores compared to Canada. I know Canadians are friendly by nature but someone retail shop staff don't convey the same enthusiastic that I get when I am in the U.S. Also love that they do the loud over the top happy birthday songs to embarrass the birthday person. You can do that here as the place is very casual and the decor is very roadhouse like. read more
