    Rubber chicken

I don't know what's worse: the kitchen's inability to cook a piece of chicken or the smug attitude of the staff. Duncan the bartender is a pro at the "ignore game." After serving me a plate of chicken that was a total health hazard, he offered zero help and basically told me to deal with it because "that's how it's made." No apology, no offer to fix it, just total silence. If you possible health hazard rubber chicken come here and eat. I tried so hard to eat it in tiny pieces.

    grilled steak and green beans

I have always like Texas Roadhouse and we were seated immediately on a Sat lunch which was rare. Aly was our waitstaff and she provided superb service. She was also the bartender as she was making tons of drinks where all those TVs are located. Got the ribs with steak fries. Meat fell off the bones and steak fries were well-seasoned. Had my usual prime rib (medium rare) and hubby had the ribeye with bones (medium rare). Both came out closer to medium but it was alright. Those dinner rolls with cinnamon butter are excellent. We ate the entire basket of bread. The sides (green bean, buttered corn, broccoli/carrots, cup of chili) were ok except the buttered corn as they were quite tough. Will definitely go back for the dinner rolls and whipped butter.

    Loaded Potato Soup

I really like their loaded potato soup here, but almost every single time it's only half full. I feel like for $4.99 this is unacceptable. The workers here aren't very nice, and they somehow always mess up.

Service was amazing! Would recommend. Bread was absolutely delicious. There were a couple problems but nothing too big.

Ask the Community - Texas Roadhouse

Is this the same menu as the east Madison location? Do they have the chicken-fried steak? (They call it something else, "country fried sirloin" or some such -- it's normally listed under the Country Dinners section. Austin exes want to know!

I believe the menu is the same as the east location. My boyfriend had the country fried steak and enjoyed it very much!

We got the end of the brisket they were currently cutting, so likely had been cut hours before and left which likely lead it to be dry. The chicken was ok, not much flavor and was on the drier side. The sausage was the best option we tried, good balance of flavor. The cornbread was also dry. The potato salad had good flavor. The Mac and cheese was the best thing we tried. I'd comeback for the sausage and Mac and cheese. Service 3/5: this is an order at the counter and sit down style. We had never been here before and overall did not feel helped when we were ordering. The staff just started at us and asked what we wanted instead of helping us walk through the steps of how to order (meat first and then you choose your sides). It got challenging because there was a growing line and many of us felt the same way of not really knowing what to order. I had to ask for extra plates for our kiddos, and was a little confused about extra condiments and things that were available in the restaurant. Ambiance 4/5: the restaurant was clean and plenty of places to sit. We were in the restaurant with another family with kids, and our kiddos ended up doing friendly dinosaur roads to the family across the restaurant. We all had a really good laugh. Overall most of the meat was dry but we liked some of the sides. The staff could have been more helpful in ordering. This is a kid friendly restaurant in our experience and had plenty of room to accommodate larger parties.

What I got in reality was a microwaved (or maybe boiled?) pound of brisket instead. Tasted terrible - wish I would have just lit my $90 on fire so I'd at least get 15 seconds of enjoyment from it. Judge for yourself from the picture below. Pretty obvious this piece of brisket never came within a mile of a smoker or pitmaster. Run!

First I should say I judge a barbecue joint by its ribs. That's it. I have had barbecue all over…read morethe country and smoke a mean rib myself. These ribs were as good as any I've had around the country, and better than most. Some places brag about "fall of the bone tender." To me that is overcooked. Ribs should be "fairly easily coaxed off the bone tender. The need a little bit of chew to them or the are too dry. Smokey Jon's ribs were just right. Now the rest. The barbecue beans were very good. I put a little brisket burnt ends in when I make them. That would have improved these to top notch. I usually shy away from barbecue joint mac and cheese but I ordered it here. Hey, I'm in Wisconsin. It's got to be at least ok. It was better than just ok. It had a generous amount of cheese and the symtickiness that good Mac and cheese must have. For my taste, it had too much garlic. I'm a big garlic fan. When I see a recipe that says "one clove of garlic," I figure it's a misprint and they meant "one head of garlic." Here, they used powdered garlic, and I feel like the amount they used covered up the natural sweetness of the cheese. The ambiance of the place was spot on. I am visiting Madison, from Oregon (Go Ducks!) Driving by the place it looks like they've got to have at least passible 'cue. Inside it was classic back woods barbecue chic. "Log cabin" looking interior walls, red and white checkered plastic table cloths, and great old school blues on the sound system. Is this place perfect? No, won't get that until you pass through the Pearly Gates. But it's about as good as your going to get anywhere else, unless you come over to my back yard on 4th of July.

Unfortunately, Smokey Joe's doesn't have collard greens, but their mac and cheese is one of the best I have ever eaten. The consistency is perfect- creamy but not soupy. They use real cheese and it has perfect seasoning . The sugar biscuits were amazing as well. I got the burnt end plate and it was the perfect amount of meat and fat ratio. The meat should be tasty without BBQ sauce and Smoky Jon didn't dissapoint- the BBQ sauce was tangy with just the right amount of spice. Yet, the meat was absolutely delicious without it- the BBQ sauce complimented the meat. Also super nice people. I would definitely come here again. This is in the top 5 of my favorite BBQ resturaunts and judging by all the awards and trophys on the wall, I'm not alone in that opinion.

It looked pretty popular with a decent number of people dining in and a bunch of others picking up orders. The girl at the counter was super friendly and helpful because I had no idea how to order lol. She made a few recommendations and even helped adjust my random items into a combo for us. Prices are fair, ordered 3 meats and 2 sides for like ~$50. We got ribs, brisket, and pulled pork along with cornbread and mac and cheese, and it came with a fountain drink. Food came out pretty quickly, we didn't have to wait long. One thing I thought was fun was the bell by the door that you can ring if you had a good experience. We rang it on the way out and got a bunch of cheers from inside haha. The ribs were big, meaty, and cooked well. The brisket wasn't really my favorite, and the pulled pork was a little hit or miss since some bites were way saltier than others. We tried both the mild and spicy bbq sauces, and the spicy wasn't too spicy. Overall, a perfectly solid casual bbq spot.

I think my pulled pork sandwich, two sides (cole slaw and fries) and a drink pushed $17. That's more than I prefer to spend on lunch, but I was going out with some work friends and felt like treating myself. And it was, indeed, a treat! The pulled pork was very good - not overly fatty or anything. Good flavor. I tried the "original" and "sweet city" sauces - both were very good and not overpowering. The fries were good - a little greasy (but "good greasy" if there is such a thing). The creamy cole slaw confused me. It was a bit dry. I know, right? How is creamy cole slaw dry? I'm not sure if it's always like this, or maybe it was off the top of the batch and the "creamy" and dripped to lower parts. Don't get me wrong - it tasted good. We'll see how it is next time I'm there! Overall, a good BBQ stop. The pulled pork sandwich will be a standard order there, but I'm sure I'll venture out to some other dishes to see what they have to offer!
