Back again last night to celebrate early mother's day. Made appt for 7pm and it was busy. The long wait felt short because of good conversation. Appetizers were up quick. Entrees didn't show up till 1hr 45 mins later. Drinks were great. Had the st. Charles and another NA drink. We ordered from one set meal and after finishing the soup, we were told they ran out of items 2, 3 and 4. Haha. We tried the shrimp étouffe, blacken salmon and filet mignon. Salmon was a bit dry and I would have preferred a stronger blacken seasoning. The shrimp étouffe was not as salty as some reviewers said it was. Spicy though. Tender mignon. Because of the crowd, the seats were closer than usual to other guests. When one of them turned to cough, I got worried. read more

We went for an early dinner tonight (8/8/26)--a warm, beautiful Saturday evening. I was surprised that it was not very busy--especially after I was so impressed by the fine dining--and it was quite comfortable inside. The menu has a variety of gourmet appetizers, salads, entrees, sides, desserts, and meal choices (and drinks). For example, you can order jambalaya as a side or as an entree! What a terrific dinner we had last night @ St. Charles Station. We were greeted nicely & escorted to a lovely table. The ambiance is very warm & cozy. The staff was friendly & knowledgeable about the menu. We loved the Caesar salad & gumbo to start off with. Wonderful, warm cornbread muffins were sent to our table. Our main courses were delicious & very generous portions. I had the salmon dish & asked for it to be blackened. It was served with a yummy vegetable medley & parsnip mash.. My man had the etouffee with shrimp & crawfish. We will put this restaurant on our list of favorites. The owner came around to all the tables to say hello. He is a great guy & has done so much for our community. Also, another plus is there is tons of parking. read more

I really want to give this place a better review, but it missed the mark-I think they dont deliver on what you pay for. We came here after they revamped the menu (March 2024). For a Friday night, this place was not bustling but we didn't know that and made reservations in advance. Service was good. I didn't feel neglected at all even though our server made a comment about not providing service to us in a long time-he looked like he was the only "server" but we also had a couple different people stop by to check in. The table next to us seemed like there was some confusion. I can't complain about the service personally. The food is what led me to this review. I ordered the NA hurricane - honestly it just tasted like juice. My boyfriend got the st Charles old fashioned and it tasted really watered down. A lot of the food seemed salty: the scallops and deviled egg. I wish the shrimp etouffee had more cut up shrimp pieces rather than the one large one on top. The burger patty seemed sad; for being $18, I was expecting a thicker patty. The banana foster was delicious! Warm and cold and the caramel was not overly sweet like store bought. I think I would try something different: they offer something cool where they offer more sides as a main vs getting an actual main. I'd say skip the drinks. read more

We dined here last night for a friend's birthday, and had a nice time. The space is really pretty- love the dark walls and lighting. Honestly, it's a gorgeous room. With five of us, we touched a lot of the menu, and the Caesar salad, mini wedge salad and squash soup were the best parts. The pork porterhouse must have been brined because it was extremely salty. Tomato bisque soup was thick and lumpy, maybe it was just the end of the pot. Bread service was laughable for $7- two mini rolls and a piece of cornbread that looked like it was made in an Easybake oven. The Shrimp Etouffee was fine, spicy and salty. Cheddar grits were on the dry side but ok, and the roasted veggies were chaotic, as if they were all of the leftover cuts. Service was ok but not attentive. Overall, we left feeling 'meh' and I'm glad we tried it once. read more

We were looking for dinner at a place a step above, and we settled on St. Charles. The food was excellent, the service just attentive enough, and the ambiance was very attractive and comfortable. I had shrimp and grits, while my partner had the Pasta St. Charles. Both were delicious, and arrived in a timely manner. We would definitely go back again! read more

We had a party of 10 with 4 of us with gluten free diets & had a wonderful experience. Great food, great service & great ambiance.

Our party of 4 was there on a Wednesday night, our first time here. We were greeted almost immediate and sat at our reserved table. Our waitress Jayden H. was attentive and knowledgeable. Ambience was good. We ordered the Shrimp and Crawfish étouffée (2/5), Blackened Chicken Pesto Pasta (3/5), Blackened Catfish (3/5) and Jambalaya (3/5). It's an expensive restaurant and I wish the food was tastier. Probably the biggest disappointment was the 20% service charge that was on the bill. I've heard of service charges applied for parties of 8 or more, but we were just 4 people. Not sure if we will be coming here again. read more

We live nearby and had been wanting to go for a while. Overall, we were happy with the experience. I'd say for the price, they need to really focus on better training the staff for the more upscale feel of the restaurant, especially with the automatic 20% service charge. It was fine and friendly, but really not what one would expect at a nice restaurant as far as attentiveness and attention to detail. The food was delicious and phenomenal. And the restaurant is perfectly cute. I'd recommend on that alone and I hope they're able to focus on developing their people. read more

I'm actually shocked that the ratings aren't higher for this location. We went for my friends birthday dinner. She has been raving about this location for a very long time. My husband has very specific allergies which include poultry, dairy, and gluten sensitive. There's always a fear of cross-contamination and him having a reaction. This was not the case for Saint Charles station. They take Allergies extremely seriously and have different fryers for their items. The drinks were great. Everything we tried was very tasty. The devil bags with the candied bacon was a favorite at the table. Their chocolate mousse was divine. The special menu dessert was very tasty as well. I selected the I'm here for the appetizers option where I got two appetizers and a side of either a salad and a soup. I had the French onion soup, which was Perfectly seasoned and tasty. The cheddar grits were good. The mac & cheese was very delicious and I know that they have a larger portion available at the restaurant Ollies. The staff went over and beyond with my daughter. She was surrounded by adults, and the waitresses made sure that she was included in everything. They made one of the drinks child friendly, which created some magic for her. The decor is very speakeasy supper club style, which is awesome. The streetcar named desire was very fruity and made me feel like I was on a beach. This is a place that we will definitely come back to. It is a great place for those that have allergies that be hard to work around. We appreciate how much effort they put into that. read more

It took one hour for our food to arrive. The waitress kept saying the kitchen was super busy. There were only 7 tables in the restaurant. It even took a long time to get drinks. The adjoining restaurant, Ollie's, wasn't that busy so I don't understand why the service was so poor. Maybe because there is an automatic 20% service charge. After I told the waitress to cancel our order, the food came within 10 minutes. The food was decent, but I will never come back. read more

The food was superlative! One of the best steaks I've ever had and the jambalaya was delightful. The atmosphere was perfect: beautifully designed space, lovely music, and just a little NOLA style. The service was great and attentive, though we went on a cold Wednesday night and it wasn't busy so there wasn't much competition for service attention. Like Ollie's, I love that they respect their staff and add a 20% service charge to the bill whether you like it or not (no tipping awkwardness). My new top choice for a nice date night! read more

This is the most Overpriced restaurant in Dane Co ! Food was average at best and the atmosphere is strange. It is hooked up to another bar. Not sure if it is only for gays and trans people but it was very uncomfortable seeing the other customer and staff interact. read more

We went to the special Mother's Day Brunch with the combined service by Ollie and St. Charles Station restaurants in Madison. We made reservations on line after speaking on the phone assuring us of the gluten free buffet. Our seating was reserved in the St. Charles area but when we arrived with our reservation number in hand, we were shuttled back and forth between the two restaurant reception desks because they didn't know where to put us. We ended up in the "bottle neck" of servers and diners of Ollies. We were given the option to sit outdoors so we took it. The constant "in and out" of the one door and around to the buffet was very congested with servers and diners. Tripping hazards abound if one was not looking out for them (often our eyes were fixed on navigating around the people rather than the obstacles), especially the large step outside the entrance of the diner and the bag of dirt. For $40 a person for a buffet found in similar hot breakfast at a hotel, (scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon,, potatoes, corn bread and french toast, fruit and lettuce salad) we expected more exceptional food. The saucy New Orleans grits and shrimp gravies and little cheese and tomato skewers were the only unusual finds. Our waitress was nice but after we ordered and was served our ice tea and coffee, we were told this was the last of the tea (so no refills could be expected) Since our reservations were early in the dining window, their tea supply already ran its course. The water that was promised was never served either. The bill came and the waitress sprung the news about the 20% service fee on top of the food bill, "to pay the wages of the servers and others behind the scenes." On top of that, the host pointed out the tip line as a necessary addition ( we assumed the 20% service fee should more than cover as the tip since we typically reward our exceptional server 20% for their tip at restaurants). We see no value in returning to Ollies and St Charles restaurants as we can find other restaurants with dedicated GF options that don't carry such a high price tag and are equal in quality. We also don't like the surprise 20% service fee model with an additional tip as it is confusing and insulting to the consumer. The owner should find a different strategy to pay one's staff better without an unexpected saddling on the patron. At least absorbing it in a higher cost of the food so patrons know ahead of time what to expect before deciding on the restaurant. This forced business model turns customers away, and does nothing to attract them, at least for us. read more

The ambience was fine, nothing special. The tables were very close together. The service was so so. We had to wait a long time for our food and when we got it, it was cold. They were very very small portions for a LOT of money. The drinks were ridiculously priced, and our total bill was so high it was uncalled for. I felt like we were donating to little John's. We also did not appreciate a 20% tip being put on the bill. We will NOT be back. read more

Four of us dined at St. Charles Station last evening. We had been to Lilliana's several times and were excited to experience the newest restaurant. First impressions were good, beautiful decor and the wildflower seed menu that can be planted was an innovative touch. Two of us ordered the Jambalaya and the server mentioned she wanted to bring it out while it was hot. We waited a couple minutes to see if the other food came out before we started ours. It was not hot at all , which was disappointing. One of our party ordered the pork tenderloin with green beans and soft shell crab small plate. The crab was okay , the green beans were great but the pork was really salty, and a meager portion. One person asked how many deviled eggs were on the plate and was told five or six, she received three. At the end of the meal the server informed us a 20% tip was added but we could leave more. She also handed us the wrong bills to sign, I guess no one looks at credit cards? Overall experience? Won't go back. Maybe try Ollie's instead ?... read more

We had a party of six and it was our first visit. Very pleasant setting and the food staff treated us very well. The special cocktail choices were quite unique. One of the husbands ordered a chocolate cocktail and raved about it. I had the gumbo and it had that New Orlean's kick, but I enjoyed the shrimp and ate every drop of the sizeable bowl. My entree was a pasta riissotto. Great presentation and oh so tasteful. After drinks and appetizers and then our entrees, not a one of us ordered dessert. Our son and daughter in law did thier medical traning in New orleans, and so we have had numerous dining opportunities to eat in the Big Easy.
