Went today and had a road kill, baked potato and salad. The road kill and potato were excellent along with our server, Eli. But, it's just June and can't you put some decent lettuce in my salad like you used to do? You can do so much better so why not try. With eating out costing so much more these days, we just want it to be edible and my salad had tons of brown crummy lettuce in it which I had to pick out. It just ruins the whole meal when you put that nasty lettuce in there. Please, if you all continue to do this, maybe we will need to stop coming to your restaurant. I used to come to this location regularly when I travelled to Richmond. The food was as it is in every other Texas Roadhouse (consistent and one of the better chains at this price point), and the service was always good. Especially the service at the bar. It's been a few years since I've had to come back to Richmond until May of this year. This marks my third visit (this second go around) and the first time I've ever left Texas Roadhouse without being served. The first time I came in a few months ago I sat at the bar and eventually the bartender arrived. She was nice enough but kept disappearing so ordering a drink was difficult. I stayed for a few drinks but eventually left before eating. It's hard to describe, but the feeling was that I was an inconvenience for whatever kept pulling the bartender away. The second time I came I ordered a drink, finished it, and the bartender (a different one) never returned. I ended up paying cash for my beer just to be able to leave (I never use cash in a restaurant...credit card points are king). The third (and final) time, I arrived and sat at the bar. The difference was instead of an empty bar there were a few people. They had full drinks and were eating. This I felt was a good sign. There was someone making drinks at the back bar area. I watched this for a few minutes as she had her back turned to everyone and seemed to be taking a long time to make the drinks. I wondered "is she new at this?". Finally she finished and then walked away to a table somewhere in the dining room...that made more sense, she was probably a server. But, with all the full drinks, where was the bartender? A few minutes later (more than five since I arrived), the bartender walks out with what looked to be a takeout order. Now, I won't go on a rant about how much I feel having bartenders do takeouts is a huge disservice to dining guests and hurts the business. All you need to do is go to an establishment that makes this the norm and you'll experience it first hand. So in this case I didn't blame the bartender for taking a long time in the back getting an order together (that's managements fault). What I do blame her for is this. She walked out with the order, made eye contact with me (the only person who had not been served), set the takeout order down and walked towards me turning at the last minute to speak with another bar guest. This went on for several minutes before I stood up, slid my chair back, only to see her turn around and look at me again before going back to talking. I grabbed my jacket and left. If I have to flag someone down or yell to get attention, I am not somewhere I enjoy being. I don't need special treatment, just the basics. Three visits to this location since June and each time it gets progressively worse. I know I'm thinking to pre-Covid times when I think about my last multiple times here...but we're far enough from the pandemic that it shouldn't be an excuse anymore. read more

The salad came out first and was disappointing--it wasn't very fresh, with several wilted pieces I ended up picking out because I'm not one to send food back. I was surprisingly impressed by my visit! We were seated after a couple minutes despite it being very busy on a Saturday night. We were given fresh rolls that were delicious and buttery. I ordered the half slab of ribs with chili and steak fries. This was a really good portion of food, and great bang for your buck. The chili was well seasoned with a tiny kick, and everyone loved it. I tried the grilled shrimp as well which was cooked perfectly and flavorful. The ribeye was cooked well too, and had a lot of flavor. Overall I was very impressed with the food. The only downfall was that our food took a while to come out, and I was also served my chili side first rather than with my dish, though i'm sure our waiter would've brought it out later if I asked. We used the website to get on the wait-list shortly before we arrived. As soon as we got there, they had us sit on a bench and then had us at our table within 5 minutes. The server was there shortly and brought us water while we waited for our drinks. Both of us ordered steak and they were cooked perfectly! The salad was delicious and I loved that they don't charge extra for side salads. It was fairly loud in there, but it was very busy so it was expected. The issue is that one server was lounging with her buddies in the narrow side/back room where they are more likely to forget ya anyway where she was ignoring her section for three stretches of roughy 20 minutes at a time, and our server - who looked like Shaggy Rogers from Scooby Doo, but his name escapes me, was rarely seen - especially when the drinks ran dry. The waitress wasn't very friendly, added two orders of grilled shrimp to her steak we didn't ask for. This time I did receive a true Porterhouse steak, comprising of a strip steak and the filet bother attached to the bone as they should be. So this time I did receive what I paid for. It did not taste fresh and it was lacking in proper seasoning. I suspect that it has a steak that had been previously frozen. Normally, often times, that is to be expected and is extremely commonplace in the industry. From a restaurant that boasts of fresh, hand cut steaks that is what the consumer should expect. A frozen steak from a restaurant that boasts of fresh, hand cut, this is unacceptable. Now if the steak was in fact fresh, never frozen, then I would have to challenge them of the quality. Maybe I just need to order a different steak. For these reasons I will keep their star rating the same. As for service, it has always been good. No complaints here at all. The waitstaff are polite, respectful, engaging, and most importantly respected my pace & my time. Will I return? Sure will, but I think I will give some time, like a year, before I return. read more

It isn't often that I change my opinion 180 degrees. I'm old, cantankerous, and set in my ways. But my recent trip to this location of Texas Roadhouse changed my point of view from "Ugh, never!" to "Sure, let's eat there!" My previous two trips to TR (both, admittedly, at a different location) had been horrible. Loud; rude service; crowded; unclean; blah taste. Once was for an inaugural trip, and once for my niece's birthday party. After those disasters I swore I'd never go back. Not for all the peanuts in the world. But we were recently on the road, and we had a gift card that needed to be used, and I wanted MEAT so... here we are at a different TR location. And it made all the difference. Despite the SARS-COV2 panic, the food was tasty, the service was exceptional, the ambiance wasn't maddening. Best of all was my steak. I like it "Pittsburgh" style (which is basically burnt on the outside and raw on the inside). This is a tough task if you aren't an experienced griller. I ordered a thick cut NY Strip with plenty of marbling and my steak was very, very good and cooked to perfection, with a nice crust and cool red center. So now I have to admit: One bad location does not a bad chain make. Based on our good experience here, Texas Roadhouse is back on our list of "Chain Restaurants it's OK to stop at". Came to Texas Roadhouse (Southside by Best Buy)for dinner around 7, 7:30 Saturday 4/7/18. I was quoted a wait of 15-25 minutes and that was pretty accurate. I was still full from my brunch at Sidewalk Cafe so i only ordered an appetizer of potatoe skins. They were good. A little too cheesy but oh well. My friend ordered some fried pickles as his appetizer. He enjoyed those. I ate a few mainly because I never tasted fried pickles before. They were pretty good. My friend ordered ribs with rice. The first set of ribs were pretty much burnt. We asked for another order and while they were better, he wasn't impressed. They were pretty busy but I absolutely loved our server, Shamika. This of course is a temporary option during the Coronavirus "social distancing" shutdown of 2020 where everything for restaurants is upside down and closed except for takeout / to go.
