I called in advance to my appointment and asked what all my wellness visit included with Tricare and they gave me a list and said zero charge because I am past my two year exam and then are charging me $50 when I got here for the wellness portion I specifically asked about. I had been seeing Dr. Salone here for a few years now to help with my convergence insufficiency. When I first started seeing her, I was so exuberant because for the first time, I had an optometrist who identified that glasses with prism were much needed in my case. Upon using the glasses for computer work, I was blown away at just how perfect a solution they had become for me fatigue. Fast forward now a couple years and in my new vehicle there is this large screen that with the sun glare is giving me a serious headache (actual and figuratively). I went to see about having the front side windows tinted on my new car and explained to the shop why I was seeking it--they told me that in order to put the tint that would be the most helpful to me on the car, and to pass the state inspection with it, I would need a prescription/note from my optometrist. So I called Dr. Salone's office and explained to the nice young woman the situation and she promised me she'd ask and get back to me. Well after a couple of days, I heard back, the young lady (credit to her) was trying her best to tell me NO and have it make any sort of sense. But ultimately, it was just sort of like "nah she just doesn't want to do it." Well, I feel let down, unfortunately, I mean not even a call from the Dr. or anything to try and help me out. The two ladies at the front desk are TOO aggressive just to be assisting, taking names and insurance. I did witness one of the employees there wait on a family that was trying to use their insurance for their kid. We were side by side and heard VERY clearly of what WAS trying to go on. This couldn't be what is being agreed to for the Doctor on duty to pressure payment. But giving people that have full coverage for exams and glass wear, aggression and unwelcoming behavior immediately when entering you'll establishment if I didn't have glasses to pick up that I had to pay an additional $300 due to my insurance I wouldn't have came back and the only reason I am coming back is cuz you're in my area and again I am to pick up products. Everybody in there that walks in should be greeted and dealt with with gentle and good ethics unfortunately I noticed myself only being treated that way. Then you ' all had the nerve to attempt to do fraudulent activity in front of a customer WoW!!!!!!! Empathy goes out to the eye doctors. read more

Staff know they are out of network for our insurance, but didn't call/email to notify, and just expected we pay everything out of pocket. They were so overbooked that we had to wait for 70 minutes for the scheduled eye exam. read more

The doctor itself is great and thorough. This review specifically applies to Vision Therapy department and the therapist, Nicole. Prior to beginning VT, I called TSO to get the Vision Therapy billing code. I then called our insurance to ensure that code was covered. Note: other VTs in Round Rock freely give these codes out so you can make sure they are covered prior to beginning treatment. When we checked in for my son's first appointment, they required that I pay for the first appointment ahead of time and for the full materials fee. I think that is where the therapist and I started to get off on the wrong foot. I didn't know why I needed to do that if I already called my insurance to make sure it was covered. Nicole was extremely rude about it and kept questioning how I even got the billing code since they don't give it out (... but they did). She stated that they require you to pay the full amount of the appointment until they KNOW insurance is picking it up by receiving funds. Fair enough, so I paid. And after a few appointments, I didn't have to pay up front anymore because my insurance was paying. I don't feel much was achieved during the in-person appointments. Nicole does not have good bedside manner. She is often rude and blunt. She is not very encouraging. She is not a person I would choose to work with younger children. My son hated these appointments and often left them feeling down. After the first appointment, Nicole does not let parents in the therapy room - she denied my husband access at my son's 2nd appointment. This became an issue when trying to do VT at home because she often fails to give instructions, or gives very vague instructions. One day my son had a full meltdown coming out of his session. He has honestly never had a meltdown like this in front of people he does not know well. Biting himself, throwing his glasses, etc. I was extremely concerned. I talked to him and he just kept telling me that he couldn't do anything right in the therapy room. I called TSO to speak with the Doctor about my concerns, but it was Nicole that called me back. We ended-up having a conversation in which I admitted that my son is prone to shame (it is part of his ADHD). I wanted to know what type of language she uses in the room since he kept saying that he just doesn't focus and was doing it all wrong. She assured me she does not use negative language. I can't confirm that because parents aren't allowed in the room. But from the appointments where I HAVE been in the room, I can say that she is very short and demanding with kids, and that she does not use positive and encouraging language, either. During this convo, I reminded her that with my son's ADHD, he struggles with endless worksheet-type assignments. She promised to look into other forms of therapy. She did not. It also got to the point that she said he was not making enough progress and so we decided to move to home vision therapy. It was during this time that my son *actually* started to make progress. Did he love the homework and have a great attitude? No. But I could encourage him and get him to do it. I also researched other activities to do at home. I want to note that I am not the only parent with concerns. The last time we were in the office, we walked in as another mother was leaving. She was sobbing and extremely upset with Nicole's bedside manner, rudeness, and just refusal to help during the insurance process. Our frustration came to a head the past month. I am very proactive and constantly check our insurance claims site to make sure that everything is processing. I noticed that a few claims were arbitrarily denied. This is common because VT is an area that a lot of insurance companies either don't know much about or do not cover. I filed the appeals and then contacted TSO to let them know I was aware of it and handling it. TSO told me that they could not see my son or daughter (who was just beginning VT) until we handled the balance on the account. Even though at that time two of the claims were only a few weeks old. I canceled their appointments. TSO then told me to go ahead and bring my son in for his re-evaluation. Prior to that appointment, I again contacted my insurance to push the claims through and I called TSO to let them know. At that time they told me they could no longer carry the $180 balance and I would have to pay immediately. I told them I had just talked to my insurance and they were approving it that day, but they insisted I pay immediately. I did, but I also canceled my son's appointment because I was DONE. My insurance paid the money to TSO, but now when I contact TSO, they state they will not pay me back until their 3rd party tells them to, which can take 60-90 DAYS. So they could not carry a $180 balance that was being handled, but they are allowed to owe me that money for months. Nice. read more

I had made an appointment two weeks in advance. I arrived a few minutes early, presented my driver's license and insurance card, then was told that I needed to have a referral from my primary care physician to get my eyes examined, since my insurance was an HMO. I checked with my insurance company, and no referral is necessary. I've never needed a referral to do something like either vision or dental, and to have this "rule" from TSO is ludicrous and against customer service. I called a different Optometrist and was assured that they don't have that policy. read more

The doctor is wonderful, and I was referred here by my regular optometrist since TSO Georgetown specializes in children. My children have been going here for a year. And I do love the care my children's eyes receive. My daughter broke her glasses last week, and I was told that it would be a week for repair. Called back and waited on hold for 8 minutes, and then put back on hold for the optometrist for another 9 minutes. The whole call was 19 minutes. Too long of a wait to tell me an update on my glasses. And still got no answers. Now I have to wait for them to call me back. read more

I had a good visit with the doctor. Then it went down hill from that point. The front office was not friendly. They couldn't even get me my prescription when I asked for it. The breaking point for me when I was on hold on 3 occasions for over 10-20 mins trying to order my contacts that I have been using for years. It seemed like only 1 employee was a contact specialist. The apology was insincere. I just wanted my prescription at this point and go order it online myself. My initial appointment was a month ago. I ran into a neighbor who told me this TSO cleaned house on certain employees, and that I should give them another try. I've since been back twice, once for a regular exam and once for a problem I was having with my eye. Both experiences were good. Staff was nice and helpful, and Dr. Salone suggested a new eye drop that worked wonders. They are in a new location, and it's lovely. The only reason I gave four stars is that their selection of glasses is lacking. But for everything else, I'd recommend. read more

The staff hear seems very unorganized. I really liked the doctor but waited an hour to be seen. People with later appointments were sent ahead of me. They cleared the waiting room twice ahead of me and never said a word. Finally I had to leave without being seen. I will look for another eye doctor. I should send them a bill for my time! read more

I do not recommend this office at all. I took a child in foster care in and she needed eye therapy. I called 3-4 times to make sure this treatment was covered by her insurance. I was assured that the first 6 visits were covered and made an appointment. 15 minutes before her appointment, the office called and told me that I would need to pay $90 and I would be refunded when the insurance paid. I told them that this was unethical and possibly illegal as she is covered under Medicaid. I cancelled the appointment. I called the insurance company to report the doctor, and was told that the patient was covered for this treatment, but the doctor was not approved for this service. I consider this office dishonest and unethical. read more

I have visited TSO in New Braunfels for YEARS, ever since I started wearing glasses when I was kid, so I trusted the TSO name. I was not disappointed. I'm not a big fan of making changes if no change is needed; she understood and kept me with the same monthly contact lenses. She did, however suggest a different brand, which I am not initially a fan of, I will wait and see how the brand works out in a week. The lady who helped me pick out my glasses helped me find a super cute pair; that is important to me as I wear my glasses pretty frequently. I would have given this location 5 stars but the front desk staff is a little nervous; he had a hard time explaining to me a new technique they are using, something about taking a picture of my eye? Its $40 extra and I questioned the necessity. And, I submitted 2 online requests for appointments with no answer. read more

Oh my, what friendly service. I've never been a fan of 'franchise' type of establishments when it comes to healthcare but I have been so pleasantly surprised. No pushy sales, just honest information and a sincere desire to be helpful. The only deficit would be the selection of frame styles, but the eagerness to help and the overall attitude of the place more than makes up for it. They were more interested in helping me make informed decisions about features and comfort. Having recently moved to Georgetown (and the state of Texas), I've had to find all new doctors for me and my family. I recently had an annual appointment for my eye exam and chose Texas State Optical. I don't think I could have made a better choice. The office staff was very friendly and Dr. Salone was efficient and timely. I'm not sure if it was the time of day or day of week (middle of 4th of July week), but the office was not crowded and I was seen within 5-10 minutes of my appointment time. Dr. Salone listened to my concerns (I had none, other than not being able to see without corrective lenses) and even laughed at some of my jokes (made a reference to the television show Supernatural and she got it). Dr. Salone was not quick to push me into a new pair of contacts if what I've been wearing was comfortable for me. I'll definitely bring my son and wife here too! read more

I left TSO during 2020 after going there for 6 years. I had a situation where they were shutdown and I was on my last contact pair, called and left messages (about three) providing my information to fill my prescription or even purchase a pair in stock. The message indicated they would respond with a 24 hour period. Zero response, not even a peep. I was completely ignored. I went almost two months on the same last pair which can cause infection on my monthly prescription. I referred about 15 to 20 people to TSO from my work, you are welcome for the referrals. Dr. Salone was a great doctor but her staff is lacking customer service skills. However, all issues roll up to the top so the review reflects Dr. Salone lack of training a competent, reliable and responsive staff. In my case, nothing got resolved with TSO. I went another local eye doctor who immediately got me in within a week. After the eye doctor at different franchise (not TSO), found the prices were higher at TSO. So, keep in mind you are paying higher out of pocket prices at TSO for contacts and glasses. read more

I found Dr. Patel to be very informative and calming. After watching too many James Bond movies, eye exams aren't my favorite. Having glaucoma there is a peripheral test that in the past, has been very uncomfortable to go through. TSO in Georgetown has the very latest in diagnostic equipment making the experience a breeze with more accurate readings! Dr. Salone is technically competent. However her front office staff could utilize some customer service training, not to mention common sense. I attempted to purchase a box of contact lenses, and the rocket scientist at the front desk was too busy eating pizza to acknowledge me. In fact, another staff member in the back hallway had to shout for the inked up front desk girl to assist me. She ran my payment and then stated that it might take a few weeks for the order to arrive. EXCUSE ME?!?! I wanted to purchase contacts today. A normal person would maybe want to inform their customer (PRIOR TO PAYING) that there would be a shipping delay. Tattoos, pizza, shouting across the office?!?! Starts out great. Dr Patel is nice to you, but this is deceptive. If you have any problems he is "out of town". Can you really be out of town for over a month? All of his staff has changed in less than a year. Not only was there a change, there were at least 4 different optometrists and three receptionists. They lost my files, wouldn't call back, and would not change out glasses that were wrong. I asked for my prescription and they claimed by law they could not, and could not find my file. I looked up the law and they had lied one more time. I would not send anyone there. read more

Excellent patient doctor! Dr. Grace Salone is very patient and my husband has a difficult time adjusting to his new prescription. She was very patient testing him several times for our second visit and listened very attentively to what he had to say. In my 12 years in Austin that is the first time that I met such a patient and attentive dr. She really spends the time with you and listen to your concerns. I am so happy that we went to her. I will be taking my son when he is ready to kindergarten to do his check up with her. Highly recommend her to anyone who is needing prescription glasses or contact lenses.
