So I am writing this update to say, with calm objectivity, that this is the worst business transaction I've ever made. For all the information packed in the comment the owner left under my original post, he really didn't explain exactly how I was charged. I will outline it as clearly as possible: *****The actual charge was $99, $107 after tax.***** --I incorrectly wrote in my original review (and the owner, even though he provided a detailed walkthrough of the entire exchange, didn't correct me) that I had been charged only "$50+". --This was to install a $25 CPU heatsink fan, which I had purchased myself, and is a necessary but not integral component in performance. --The job was done after 10 minutes, and, in retrospect, the removal of my entire motherboard was clearly to make it seem as though I was getting a better deal for the $100/hr rate I was being charged. (And yes, it was an hourly rate, so I'm sorry for originally suggesting that the technician was running up the clock on purpose to raise the fee. It would've cost $100 even if he had finished in 10 minutes.) --I was absolutely not quoted forthright when I called to set up the appointment, contrary to what the owner wrote in his comment. In this respect I'm definitely partially to blame for my bad experience. I really should have asked for a quote up front, and the only reason I didn't is that I find these types of things uncomfortable (and I'm young and naive, sure). At the same time, an absurd price is an absurd price, categorically. If I went to a grocery store and saw that they charged $8 for a box of cereal, I would probably go home and give it a bad review on Yelp, even if I didn't buy anything and avoided getting ripped off myself. In this case, the fan was installed correctly (which a technician at any computer repair service will be able to do), but my negative experience stemmed from the amount it cost me. I'm using my recourse to Yelp to explain exactly what happened, and in the hope that at the very least it may remind whoever reads it that they should get a quote before they purchase a service that they end up really regretting. As a final note, I should mention that the technical reason I didn't want to try to install the fan myself is that there's a small risk of your screwdriver slipping when trying to unscrew the old one from the CPU. If the screwdriver touches the motherboard, it can zap it with static electricity and completely fry it. You'd have to go out and buy a brand new motherboard, which is a nightmare situation because that's usually the most expensive part in any computer--the one I have in there now costs a little over $100.

I'm out of the service contract with Dell and just felt they wouldn't be much help. I preferred someone who could look at and analyze my system. But I work from home and constantly on the computer, I really was hoping to get someone who could come out. I was able to speak to Lindsey over the phone and get an appointment for the next day. I blocked off several hours hoping to get an answer. Lindsey arrived on time and brought her own equipment. I explained my problem and right away she went to work going through some of the basics with the computer to ensure everything was working as it should be and no viruses. Once that was all finished, she did more diagnostics, letting me know everything she was doing as she was doing it. In the end, she made some adjustments that we both hoped would resolve my issue without having to replace any of the hardware. It has been only a few days since, but I would say for now my computer is running so much smoother and quieter and no issues with the computer shutting down. Again, it has only been a week, but even if I do experience the problem I was having again, at least Lindsey told me what the next step would be. This is one of those businesses you hope you never need, but if you are in need of any repairs to your computer, Lindsey is extremely knowledgeable, quick, explains everything and having someone come to you and do the work right there is well worth it.

But before looking at my laptop, Lindsey told me she was very sure it would be the screen issue. So I purchased a new screen and she replaced it. After replacing the screen, the flickering got worse. She said it was not the screen issue, the wire needed to be replaced. Then she replaced the wire and then the screen is not usable at all, it is flashing and hurting my eyes. Them she said the mother board needs to be replaced. At this moment I don't trust her anymore. If you can't fix a problem, at least do not make it worse. My laptop was not perfect but still usable before her repair. But after that I have to connect my laptop to a monitor in order to use it. Also it is very unlikely to get call back from them. I have to keep calling them.

Mari and her crew were able to "out with the old, in with the new" with mindful speed and super friendly service. Also, as someone who knows their fare share about IT, I never felt that they were trying to pull one over on me, and all the services/parts/labor/etc were broken down and invoiced at a very reasonable price. I'm super happy with the results on this bigger job and I'd go with Redpro again on any follow up/smaller jobs as well.

When I finally picked up my order there was gunk all over one print and the guy was really rude about having to reprint and said it would be ready the next day. When I told them I had already waited almost three weeks for it and I'm pretty disappointed that I've got to come back the next day for it. He told me they had larger orders ahead of me and flat out, that my order was not a priority. I was stunned! Besides all of this terrible customer service, the prices are really high and I promise you can find better prices at other printers in Austin. The color quality is subpar as well. I won't be using this business again.
