We had been with Texas Wireless for over 10 years. At first the service was good, especially since we are in a rural area. However, the service over the past 5 years has consistently gotten worse. I started calling last year (2024) about my bill because I wasn't getting credit for my payments. I talked to Jason and he said my balance was zero and not to worry about it. I continued getting bills and decided to cancel in April of this year. Since then, I continue getting bills and now they say I owe over $1,000! Very disappointing and frustrating! read more

They continued to charge us after we canceled and blocked my number after I called several times to get a refund.

Had this internet for 8 year because they were our only option. Hated every minute of it. Worst provider ever. They WILL NOT answer their phones. Don't believe me? Try calling right now? 100 percent chance they won't answer. We were paying for 6mbps and the max we ever got was 1mbps. One time they shut us off. We called them to find out, they shut us off without notification because they thought we hadn't paid. Luckily, we payed with PayPal on auto draft. We had to send them payment records showing that we had not missed a payment in 8 years for them to turn it back on.... We had to prove that we paid, instead of them proving we didn't ... And in the end, they didn't apologize. Horrible company. Horrible customer service. I always root for the small business ... This one however... I hope they get audited. read more

Apart from Jason (office), this internet "service provider" is wholly lacking, at best. I expect that they are aware of the limited options re isp in rural Hays County, and -- with little competition -- feel no compulsion to provide quality service. When/if ever viable options exist, I would advise that you choose those over TWI. Update 03.24.2016: Hard to fathom, but, TWI "service" has actually gotten worse. Update 06.21.2018: TWI's 2017 equipment upgrade (no charge) has improved my connectivity (albeit with caveats); consequently, I've added one more star for the equipment upgrade as it has improved my service. Even with TWI's equipment upgrade, and my paying for one of their upper tier residential service packages, I'm still experiencing high latency and erratic/underperforming DL/UL "speeds." Jason (office) continues to be the only TWI staff that I've engaged with who is more often actually thoughtful & helpful. The other office staff continue to be curt, dismissive, and unhelpful. Their field tech -- while apparently performing his job effectively -- does not call (as supposedly instructed by his office) prior to scheduled service appointments, is barely communicative, and not customer friendly. About my overall experience with TWI (and rural ISPs in general): When a business is *the only viable game in town* (and they realize this), that business is able to dictate their own terms and lord this over their customers. I find this type of business practice particularly predatory and patently despicable. Cancelled service with this company about a year ago. I continue to receive monthly invoiced. For a few months after cancellation, invoices were sent, but were then quickly zeroed out (after I contacted them of course as nothing they do is proactive). For the last several months; however, I am getting invoiced with balanced due. I complain every month, but the last three months they have been completely radio-silent. Last contact they made was in August. I was sent this email from Matt... Hi Kim , I'm sorry for the inconvenience i have zeroed out the outstanding bills and rescheduled the equipment pickup but unfortunately I do not have anyone that can get by there today. Texas Wireless Internet is a joke. Their service has become less and less; SpeedTest results show less than 2.00 download & 0.00 upload for over a month. Phone response sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't. Even when I get a return phone call, I get the runaround--service available usually about 1 week out, "free this time" but normally $39.95, it's my issue EVEN THOUGH I've proven it's not, Melissa promises something which doesn't happen and Jason knows nothing about it, etc., etc., etc. I am convinced they have expanded customer base without expanding their band width but that is being denied. My opinion - Pick ANY OTHER option (cell phone company wireless access point, HughesNet, Directtv, etc.). Why? 1. Service was barely usable when it worked (I mean for web-pages - forget video). When it didn't work, it was out for days at a time. 2. Phone calls are NEVER returned. 3. Canceled 3 years ago and they still are sending invoices each month. Internet is slow, but only 1 mbps is available where I am, so it's slow by definition. Their accounting "department" however is laughable. Every month I get invoiced for 2 months of service because the previous months' payment has "not been received". In reality, it's been received but not deposited......for 4 to 6 weeks they sit on payments then have the gall to bill for 2 months and sometimes charge a late fee!! Their other trick is to send an invoice with a due date that's only 1 or 2 days away then charge a late fee. read more

Customer for 6+ years I canceled the service today. They advertise data transmission speeds that the service never lives up to. I can only guess that they have added significant customer load to their network over time and have failed to invest in their infrastructure. I have been paying for the 4Mbps service and regularly see speeds between 0.5-1Mbps. I figured they could consistently deliver 1Mbps so I lowered my plan to that level and now consistently see speeds below .25Mbps. In my particular area they are the only broadband provider that isn't cellular or satelite based. Neither of those are good choices and are significantly more expensive but I can't contiue to pay monthly for a service that is unusable. Its too bad, I would like to be able to support a small, locally owned business but at this point I feel like I am being ripped off. read more

I've been a customer for over 4 years and cancelled my service today. I have never received the advertised speeds, but live in the country and was willing to get by. The current problem has been ongoing since Memorial weekend 2015. I have had NO Internet connection from dusk until dawn. Every night. I've done everything their technicians have suggested with no success (including replacing my router for $150). I've been told that the tower I use is solar powered, and then told by another tech that was untrue. I've been told that there are "hundreds of pages" of modifications that could be made to alter my service, and that we just had to find the right one. I've called many times, the last two calls have not been returned. I can get faster speeds at a similar price using 4G. I'm tired of the hassle of dealing with these people. read more

Literally cannot believe these people are still in business. Set up internet service for a rural location, being told full line of sight to tower would give me great service - yes, they came and did a site assessment. Service was very poor. Called for technician to come assess a couple weeks later. He could not determine the problem. My complaint is just that the service is terrible (in my case, non existent), but their customer service is like a foreign language to them. They don't answer the phone - try them, you will see - leaving a message is no better. I've been called back about once every 5 messages. I just cannot believe this is a viable business. I tried Texas Wireless for 6 months. I root for the small company and under-dog. However, after a storm, my service was out for weeks with no real service trying to fix the problem. As a result, I had to move on. When it worked, my speed ran about 1 to 3 mb per/sec depending on traffic which cost me $55. per/month in the Buda area. read more

I actually only made an account so that I could comment on how terrible Texas Wireless is. While we are paying for 4 Mb/s, I think I've only ever seen speeds like that around 3 in the morning. During "peek hours" (that is, when most people are awake) the connection is attrocious, running around 0.3-0.4 Mb/s. Beyond that, any live streaming is next to impossible, as I get dropped from servers every 10 minutes or so. Customer service is non-existant. Overall, I would say that Texas Wireless should be an absolute last resort. read more

It took over a month to get the company to come out for a survey. Then had to wait another 2 weeks for a scheduled installation. Offered to pay more money and they still would not do it. That means they don't have a clue how to do business. I should have followed my instincts but instead decided to give them a chance. Internet connection was terrible, not much better than dial up. Paid for 2 Mb and didn't even get to 1. Asked for 4 and was told they could not provide it. 3 days after installation it failed completely and I have not yet been able to contact anyone regarding fixing it. I first reported the problem on 11-22 it is now 11-26 and still no communication from them. They never answer the phone, have no names or contact info on website. Paid $270 for installation and the check has already cleared. I would have cancelled it if it hadn't. Installation grounding does not conform to National electrical code. Ground rod is not bonded to house grounding and incorrect ground wire size was used. I am an electrical engineer with a background in communications antenna installations, I know I am right and can show you the codes if you want me to. These codes apply to everyone in the USA for all antenna installations without exception. Proper grounding is necessary for protection of equipment, installation structure and safety of people. Very important. Anyway, I told them today that I wanted the system functional by tomorrow or they can cancel my account and return my installation money. I don't expect them to answer me. I've been using these guys for about 8 years now. I thought that their service would improve with time, but it is just as bad today as it was 8 years ago. It might be worse, as more people have moved into the area and this service is shared by everyone on the network. So the more people who are on it, the slower it goes. When it works, it is acceptable. When it doesn't it's worse than a 14.4 dial up modem. Video is virtually impossible. I have the 4mbps plan and am lucky if I get 1mbps most of the time. At 3am, it's usually about 2mbps since no one else is on, but I work for a living so am rarely using the net at that hour. There are finally some other IPs in my area, but they all charge for installation and I have yet to switch, but when I have an extra $150, you can bet I will. ATT etc limit your bandwidth and then throttle you when you go over, TexasWireless doesn't do that, they are unlimited, but the speed sucks. That's the best I can say about their so called service. We wanted to upgrade our service about a year ago, and it was pointless, the speed remained the same, but we were charged more of course. Initial contact for this company was promising, that's about all. Appointment was for Thursday in between 10-11am (confirmed on several phone calls). After several phone calls to find out where the tech is, I was told first that the time was supposed to be in between 10am-1pm (ignore the fact that I confirmed the 10-11am that same morning), then I call back after 11:45am and was told that the tech called in sick. I don't have a lot of time to take off work during the day (due to work distance) so I was a bit angry about this. Now I call back to get another time on the same day and find out that the tech actually didn't call in sick and that he's "working on a tower"....so which is it? So far...three conflicting statements from their customer service. Finally have a reschedule for the next day (Friday) in between 10-10:30am. I show up to a note on the door "Sorry we missed you". I arrived at the house at 10:05am. I call the company and they find that he's allegedly 3 miles down the road but will come back. When he arrives, I ask what time he arrived at the house and he stated that he came a bit early. So they finally try to get a good signal (for the $99.95 install fee) and tell me that they can't. (I have a FreedomPop antenna on my roof and get a signal without issue - lower than their antenna.) Now to get a good signal, i'll need another 30' for the price of $250. I don't think so.... I can't say anything about the actual service but going by the appointments, customer service, and conflicting statements about the tech and scheduled appointment, i'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I've had the same issues (E.G., billing screwups crappy speeds (I.E., less then 500k is the norm when I'm paying for 2Mbps). When I complain I'm told "well, you just have to expect that kind of thing". In my situation I was originally paying for 4Mbps and after repeated calls over a long period of time, one of the techs said that he didn't understand why they couldn't get anywhere close to 4Mbps and recommended that I downgrade to 2Mbps so that I wasn't paying for more than I was getting. I did and when I received my next bill there was only a $2 difference. When I contacted them to find out why I was told that when I had the 4Mbps package I was "grandfathered in" at that rate and when I downgraded they raised their prices so that I am still paying the same amount for crappy service. read more

That said, I was ready to purchase service from Texas Wireless and found out (fortunately) that their customer service is none existent. 1st install appointment - Jason (only pleasant person I have spoken to there) left a VM at 6:30pm the night before letting me know they would have to cancel my appointment for the following day. Reason was they underestimated a job, so my was getting knocked off the schedule. Our service is actually available and functioning about 35% of the time. Mostly, it is SLOW or not working all together. I have talked with the company several times, which is hard to do, and they always say they are going to look into the problem. However, nothing has changed for over a year. Terrible service and provider doesn't seem harsh enough. They don't provide the service speed they sell you, their system doesn't have the bandwidth so you can expect to loose service from 3-midnight, they can't seem to answer their phones or return calls, they even struggle to keep up with billing (I just received my April bill, it's August!!!). We chose this route because the unlimited usage, turns out it's unlimited because you can't use it enough to make it worth regulating. You cannot compare rural internet service to Google Fiber or Verizon Fios or other hardwired services. If you can get a hardwired service - by all means get it. But for the thousands of people who live in rural or semi-rural central Texas, wireless internet is one of the few options available. Finding a good provider is really important and Texas Wireless Internet is the best. Best on price, best on speed and best on service. I was reluctant to write this review because all wireless systems have a fixed capacity and can get overwhelmed by too many users. And this company is so much better than all the others that I can see everyone trying to switch! If I have a problem I call their number and leave a message. Someone (usually Jason who is great) gets back to me the same day and they are helpful and interested. I get slightly faster speeds at half the price of the nearest competitor. I live near Wimberley, but not in an area with Time Warner. My choices are few and far between. Texas Wireless would be my last choice were it not for the fact that they are cheaper than my other decent option. I'm paying for two mg download and just barely actually get one. And when there is an issue, the only thing you reach by phone is an answering machine. While "my call is very important to them", it pretty rare that you actually get a call back any time soon. One time I called because my Internet was out, went through all the hoops they make you jump through to test the system for them, and did determine that it was a problem that they would have to resolve. Three days later, after more calls to the answering machine, I did get a call back only to find that somehow, the call previously had never made it anywhere, and nobody had been scheduled to make the repair. Abysmal service, both internet and customer. We pay for 4MBPS service and have almost never, if ever, achieve that speed or any speed remotely close to it. They have a disclaimer on their web site that states "Speeds are maximum rate, not guaranteed, and may vary based on network traffic." The problem is that network traffic is always heavy as they have oversold their capacity. I tried to download a video on demand from my my satellite TV provider last night. Based on the service I pay for, I should have no issues streaming a HiDef movie. Based on the speed I am getting (.29 MBPS. That's right POINT 29, or 290 KBPS) I could not even stream the movie in standard definition. As a matter of fact, it took 7 1/2 hours to download the movie at standard definition to my DVR in order to watch it later. I'm paying $53.00 per month for, what amounts to, slightly better than dial up speed most of the time. Whenever you call about it, they say "We'll test the equipment." They test the equipment and tell you they have a "strong signal from the tower to your antenna." Unfortunately, that's like the water company telling you they have a big, new pipe going to your house. The real problem is that nothing is coming through it. Where we live, fixed wireless broadband is the only alternative and they are not regulated like DSL or Cable providers because they are not interstate and only provide service locally. If you have another option, TAKE IT. Stay away from this company if you want any kind of reliability, broadband speed or customer service. read more

I have been a customer with Texas Wireless Internet for several years and have been very satisfied with their service. When there was a problem, Brian and Jason took care of it for me quickly. Infact, I had a problem nearly a month ago and spent nearly an hour on the phone with Jason getting "schooled" in diagnosing symptoms to see what the problem can be. In my case it was a bad router. So I got a new one, gave them a call and Jason helped me out. He really cares about his customers and it shows in everything he does for people. We have been using this service for over a year, thru all the bad storms in rural Texas and I have to say this small company does a good job as our service provider. previously, HughesNet was the only option, 3 times the price and it wouldn't stream during prime times and spotty, at best. Living in the country there may be no way the speeds can match urban service, but at least there is some alternative to the monopoly of HughesNet.
