We started with shrimp eggrolls, which were wrappers rolled around shrimp and seemingly nothing more-4 for $12. I got the Thai beef salad, my go-to. It was fantastic. The meat was tender and flavorful and I had enough for two meals! Charlie had the trout in a garlic sauce and t was so yummy! The sauce was sweet and savory with veggies added on top of the fish. We had a slice of light and fresh coconut cake that was just delicious. The atmosphere was busy but not chaotic. All the waiters were attending to all the tables. Service was adequate. Tofu appetizer was delicious! The perfect amount of spice and the tofu was cooked perfectly, so crispy but still chewy inside. Hard to achieve this level of tofu! Eggplant no complaints! I've tried Thai Angle's pad see ew before which was pretty good. This time I went, the pineapple fried rice was not what I hoped. Not much flavor so I had to put soy sauce on it. I also tried my friend's green curry which had a pretty good flavor. The mango sticky rice was really good and there was good service. Chill and calming decor. I had no idea the restaurant changed from Dos Perros to Thaiangle until Valentine's Day when we were downtown and saw it. We've been looking for a good Thai restaurant and may have juat found it. The decor was very nice and the food was great. We ordered the Chef's special Pacific Rim and Spicy Bamboo with beef. Portions were definitely large. The PaciRim had a good amount of seafood and a hearty amount of beef i. The spicy bamboo. We ordered both hot. The seafood was spicier and great flavor. Drinks were good and decently priced. We had great service and enjoyed our coenwrner table in the bar. The restaurant definitely got busy as the evening went on. There was no hostess or anyone to greet or tell us how long the wait would be. Multiple servers walked by the line, but no one was acknowledged at all. This is my new favorite Thai spot in the Triangle! Really good food and if you get the tofu option, they go hard on the veggies, which I appreciated. The portions are also huge! I got the drunken noodles, and ended up with leftovers. This rendition of drunken noodles truly blew me out of the water; the noodles were perfectly cooked and the dish was so flavorful. Also had the mango sticky rice for dessert, which was solid; the rice was a bit hard for my liking, so I probably won't be getting that again. On the weekdays, they do a $15 lunch special with many of their most popular dishes. Unfortunately, the lunch special isn't available on weekends. When it's cold outside, my body needs Thai food. A friend recommended this place after seeing them on social media, and oh boy, the hype was real. We came for dinner on Thursday night around 6:30 pm, and this place was packed. We had to wait quite some time to be seated, and it took more time to be served. If possible, I would go here a little earlier than that time. Also know what you want and order them as soon as you can since you may need to sit for a while until you can grab the server's attention. We got Steamed Gyoza for the table, I got Pacific Rim - Hot, and my friends got other dishes. I ate every drop of my dish. It was absolutely banging, perfect for a cold night. We ordered the following: - Thai Iced Tea - Tom Kha Chicken - Pad See Ew The Thai iced tea was sweet and refreshing! As for the other 2 dishes, they were both delicious! I loved the presentation of the tom kha chicken and how the soup stayed nice and warm which is perfect for the chilly fall weather. I also appreciated how the soup was filled with mushrooms, chicken, and bamboo. And with all the lemongrass and spices used, every sip was fantastic! My friends found this restaurant and wanted to try it in Durham. I started off with the Thai tea. Although it was good, I did feel like it was lacking a little bit of flavor. Afterwards, we got the Gyoza. These were actually pretty good and we ate them very quickly. Finally I got the drunken noodles with chicken spicy. The portion size for this was massive. It was very well spiced and I would get it again. The inside felt like a good cozy atmosphere with plenty of seating. We went on a Thursday and were able to get seated immediately. Service was a little bit slow, but they were pretty busy inside. Prices were on the higher end, but match the portion sizes. No direct parking, but there are parking decks around the area. Went with a friend for dinner out on a weekday evening. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night. The service was fast and attentive. It did take a minute to get seated since it was so busy. We split the calamari which was very good and more of the tempura style than the classic calamari. I ordered the Mongolian beef. The portions were very large and affordably priced. The dish was very good and I'd eagerly go back again. I've been here many times and the food is always amazing. I would recommend. Sometimes the appetizer comes after the entree so just be aware if you like it before your meal. Once thing I will say is they really need to hire a host. The servers are seating you and running around the whole time. I do believe this would fix some of their timing issues. If they are busy plan to wait at least 45 minutes for your food. The food is very good but adding a few additional people like a host could help a ton. read more

When I initially was going to come here I was a little frustrated with trying to call to check if they did reservations because the phone number only went straight to voicemail and I was confused. When we arrived though, it was very cute and clean inside and all of the staff was super friendly, attentive and kind. The seats are a bit uncomfortable though, I sat in the chair and it was very hard, luckily I had my sweater to sit on. Not sure how the benches are. The server seemed confused on our question about what herbs went into the summer rolls, so maybe they should be slightly more knowledgeable about their menu but that's pretty small compared to how attentive they are. Probably more serious though if there are any allergies. We got the chicken pad Thai, Mongolian beef, Thai wings and coconut cake and they were all very good. The mongolian beef was good quality and definitely fresh but not the flavor profile I think of when I eat Mongolian beef, tasted more like a stewed beef. The wings and pad Thai though were amazing! Since I was dining solo, I grabbed a seat at the bar. The restaurant was filling up quickly, and I had a good feeling about the food just by observing the crowd. "Excellent Thai in the heart of downtown Durham" Came here for a Thursday lunch with my bestie from work, and she had heard great things about this place, so we gave it a shot, and I'm glad we did. This is in the old Dos Perros restaurant location, for locals who've been here a while. We arrived just before noon, and it was nearly empty-- maybe one other party in the dining area. We were seated promptly and ordered. I got the pad see eew tofu lunch portion, my friend for kung pao chicken, and we split an order of tom kha tofu soup as a starter. We got a starter salad before anything else-- it was just a bit of iceberg lettuce with dressing, so it looked unimpressive, but the dressing was quite excellent so it was still tasty. The soup came next-- it's in a giant pot with a flame in the center to keep it warm, so easy to share for two people. This was different from other tom kha soups I've had before in that it had a LOT of the toppings (lots of tofu, bamboo, and mushrooms), and it had an almost fruity taste. I'm guessing it was lime juice, but it almost tasted like pineapple in the combination. Very very good, and different. My pad see eew was good, if not too terribly different from pad see eew at most places. The sauce wasn't overpowering, which was nice. I'd have liked some (more?) egg in it, but it was still good, and the tofu was nicely fried. I also had a bite of my friend's kung pao chicken, and that was EXCELLENT-- I may get that next time I go. Service was EXCELLENT-- our waiter checked on us many times, kept the water super-filled, and took away any plates we weren't using promptly. Food came reasonably fast but we never felt rushed. Price was good for downtown-- lunch entrees in the $15-16 range mostly, and the portion was quite large. I finished mine (I was very hungry), but my friend I think only ate about half of hers. The soup was $18 but easily could have been enough for more people to enjoy-- I think we had 2 cups each, and there was plenty left for leftovers too. Definitely a restaurant for a foodie with flair for spices and flavors to make your tatse buds tango. Now, my service was good very but I did notice a major ick that makes me leary. A patron at the table next to me received his dish. He began to dig in and noticed it wasn't what he ordered. I mean he got his fork, moved food around inspected with his nose amd notified the waiteess. The waitress arrives and apologizes for bringing him the wrong dish, takes the plate and proceeds to deliver said plate to the table whom the order was meant for. Yes you read that right. My antennas was up from there on out. Food is amazing but keep an eye in your food because you may not know the journey it took before it arrived at your table. Got some Thai Angle in the Tri-Angle! Cute new spot for Thai in downtown Durham. I came with a couple of friends for dinner. It was easy to get a spot at 6ish but quickly became more packed. As a Duke student, I'm extremely disappointed with both the food quality and customer service at Thaiangle. I ordered the Crispy Duck for $25, which came with about 6 pieces. Only 2 pieces were normal--the other 4 were almost entirely duck neck, bones, and fat with barely any edible meat. When I politely pointed this out to the server, he took my plate and said he'd "check and get back to me." We finished our meal and waited over 20 minutes. No one came back. When I finally asked again about the issue, his only response was: "There's nothing we can do. It's by chance." This is completely unacceptable. If there's a "chance" I'll get a $25 plate of bones and scraps, I should be warned when ordering. A restaurant's basic responsibility is quality control and consistency, not making customers gamble on whether they'll actually get food. What's worse is their attitude--taking my plate, making me wait 20+ minutes, then offering zero resolution or apology shows total disrespect for customers. I'm not upset about one bad dish. I'm upset that they clearly don't care about making things right. The "it's by chance" excuse is insulting for any restaurant claiming to serve quality food. Save your money and go anywhere else. There are plenty of great Thai restaurants in Durham that actually value their customers. Thaiangle is not one of them. I will not be returning. read more

The broth in the beef noodle soup was unreally delicious and had amazingly seasoned and perfectly cooked beef, basil, scallions and rice noodles. I ask for a sampling of chile pastes and powders to spice my soup to the perfect heat and flavor. My wife loves her drunken noodles with chicken, which was a very generous serving size suitable for taking home leftovers. However, my wife ordered the Crispy Duck, and our waitress came back to tell her that the veggies were not available, and would she accept pickled veggies instead, which she accepted. The duck came and it looked like it had a batter on it and it was overcooked. Basically, there was about two or three good bites of meat, but the rest was bones and skin. We had read good things about this restaurant from a local foodie group on Facebook and finally stopped by early one evening. We looked on their website to see if they took reservations but we didn't see anything indicating as such. One of the recommended dishes was the crispy tofu app (apparently fondly remembered from the chef/owners previous restaurant) and we enjoyed the texture and garlicky taste of the dish. I had green curry with chicken (hot) and my wife had the drunken noodles (medium), both of them sufficiently spicy for our tastes. The decor is bright and they still have images of the two dogs from the space's previous incarnation as Dos Perros.
