Reasonably priced, delicious, and generously proportioned! Just about everything on the menu can be made vegan on request, and I've never had a dish here I didn't enjoy. Of the many restaurants downtown, I especially appreciate Thai At Main Street's flexibility around serving large groups on relatively short notice. We came here on a Friday night (always busy in Durham). We called half an hour in advance for a group of 8 people, and by the time we arrived they had a table ready for us. The inside isn't large, but even though all of the tables were full, the volume was very reasonable. At our table of eight, we had no trouble hearing one another and conversed as a group. Service was prompt (even though the place was packed), and the food came out within 15-20 minutes. I got the Drunken Noodles, which I've had here before & always enjoy. My partner got the Pad See Ew, which was also phenomenal. Two in our party got the pineapple fried rice, which was a big hit (even with my slightly picky younger sister!). Overall, I recommend, especially for short-notice dinners, large groups, or anyone just craving some fresh, flat rice noodles (i can never get enough of those). read more

I would say that the red curry was too watery (as opposed to thick and creamy), and the bell peppers were cut too large. Like, when you're stuffing half a bell pepper in your mouth, is just not very attractive. My daughter did enjoy her Khao Soi, and the presentation was very nice. Our server was rude. Nothing was bad about this meal. Our group ordered half the appetizer options and nothing was bad. The pad Thai was great and so was the ginger sauce dinner. I liked that it had a generous amount of brown sauce in it so the rice can soak it up! They have big portions and I got 2 full meals out of it. I also got a Thai tea that was nice! This was such a great find! We absolutely loved everything we ordered from the appetizers to dessert and also how are their deserts so well priced compared to other places? We ordered two mango sticky rices because it was heavenly, perfect blend of coconut and condensed milk, the mango was super fresh and this was truly the best mango sticky rice I've ever had at a Thai restaurant. We also got the banana fritters and look at how cute the presentation is! Loved the little hearts and the great flavor of fried bananas, didn't taste oily at all and so easy to eat. For mains we got the shrimp pad see ew, the noodles were deliciously chewy and the perfect size. Also loved our banging curry fried rice! This is one of my favorite Thai places in Triangle. It can get super busy, so be mindful of your time & schedule. This is in downtown Durham, so parking is either on street or at the parking deck. You may need to walk a little bit to get here. There is a small waiting area, but it is very limited in space. Because it gets super busy, your service also might be slow. Food options here are delicious. I haven't had anything that did not taste amazing during my visits. I even took my mother in law, who doesn't eat Asian food as much as I do, and she even enjoyed it :) 10/10 recommend you to stop by if you are in the area. read more

Most recently, I got the Spicy Eggplant with Tofu- it wasn't very spicy unfortunately, but had a good sweet/savory profile and portion size. I loved this place so much, I revisited them again on my recent trip to Durham... This time, I tried their Pad See Ew w/ Beef, which came with a complimentary side of Salad. Surprisingly, they were out of Spring Rolls though. Huh?? The Pad See Ew was solid...but I would have preferred a stronger sauce/flavor on the noodle and/or the beef. Still, it was beautifully presented. I also tried their Thai Donuts, which were amazing! Perfectly toasted so that they were crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. Loved this even more than their Pad See Ew. Definitely a Must if you come here! Since they were out of Spring Rolls, and the Pad See Ew being a bit bland, I would have rated 3, but their presentation was definitely a 5...so guess I'll drop a 4 this time. Delicious Thai food at this spot in the midst of a row of great restaurants in Durham. It was an early dinner, so not crowded. There are about 18 tables in this rectangular storefront restaurant. Service is efficient and quick, though somewhat brusque. Tried Kra Pow crispy duck, on the menu as a daily special. A generous portion of perfectly cooked, crispy skin-on duck is served atop a melange of colorful red peppers, onions, carrots, broccoli and basil, stir-fried in a sweet-ish brown sauce, and garnished with an orchid. The duck is excellent - very flavorful and not fatty. Also had pineapple fried rice with tofu. An enormous portion (took half home) of delicious vegetable fried rice is chock-full of 2 inch chunks of tofu. The tofu is firm, flavorful and well-seasoned, tasting of a sweet sauce. Lastly, Drunken Noodles. This one is made with the traditional prep, wide noodles, stir fried vegetables, chicken and topped with fancy shredded carrots. We grabbed lunch here after a wonderful Honeygirl Meade private tasting nearby (check them out!). We walked in, was greeted and seated promptly. While playing catch up, we scanned the very lengthy menu and decided we were gonna snag appetizers and entrees. To start, we had the crab wontons, dumplings, shrimp rolls, AND the Bangkok chicken. The crab wontons were incredibly good! The filling was a larger portion than what I'm used to (you know sometimes it's just a small little dollop), and it was tasty as ever. Dumplings aren't my thing so I tried half of one and I enjoyed it. There was no dumpling left behind. As for the shrimp rolls? Crispy!! Fresh out the oil, like the shrimp was HOT! Very delicious, great texture and flavors. The Bangkok chicken reminded me of bonchon chicken, very crispy though wet. These were a smash, would order again. Wondering how we had room for entrees? Yeah beats me. The sang some duck was not my first choice since I'm typically a basil fried rice gyal, but I figured I'd try something different. For every bite I scooped a little rice and dug into the bowl of duck and vegetables. And talk about a party! Everything was nicely flavored, savory to the fullest. And did i mention, they weren't stingy with the duck at all! I also had a side of the chicken soup, it was very good as well. It almost reminded me of miso soup but not quite. The ladies gave it a taste test and gave it thumbs up too. As for the grilled chicken, I didn't get to try it but the ladies all but cleared their plates. We ate here during the Banjos and Biscuits festival. I had Drunken Noodles with tofu and it was delicious. Other Thai places cook the tofu early and then add it to the dish as needed and I'm pretty sure Thai at Main cooked everything together. The ambience was very peaceful. The portions are large and the prices are decent for the amount that you get. I typically order the Pad See Ew and Tom Kah soup which are delicious. Disappointing. We stood at the Wait to be Seated sign for 15 min without even any acknowledgement from waitstaff. There was one lady who seemed to be waiting on all of the tables in the entire restaurant with one busboy. The food came out suspiciously fast. Seemed like within 10-15 minutes all the food was out. The food was mediocre. The chicken wings appetizer was hard as rock, very dark and looked refried in old oil. The hot and sour seafood soup was lukewarm and not impressive. The red curry seafood dish had the same exact seafood (most likely premade melange) and fried fish pieces that also had a hard, dark refried batter on it. I think this is the best Thai restaurant in Durham, and I've eaten in many of them. I have encountered many other Thai restaurants who dilute the coconut milk with cows milk in their curries. I'm allergic to dairy. They assured me the only dairy they have on the entire menu is in their Thai iced coffee and Thai iced tea. They also are very accommodating for gluten-free options, even to the level that my celiac friend can eat there. Aside from allergies, their food is tasty, not greasy, and affordable. Up the street is a trendier Thai restaurant and all the entrées are 2 to 3 dollars more expensive, and not any better tasting. The decor is somewhat plain and unassuming, but their food is as good as you can get in any Thai restaurant. read more

Really nice Thai restaurant with a casual atmosphere in the heart of downtown Durham, right at the 5 points area. It has a nice open dining area with plenty of seating and lots of natural light coming in through the floor to ceiling glass store front which allows for people watching in this walk friendly part of Durham. The staff were pleasant and despite being short staffed, they worked very hard to care for the customers the best they could. The food is very good with a lot flavor and very well prepared. We ordered the fried tofu appetizer with sweet chili peanut sauce....very yummy and my wife ordered the "Spicy" eggplant with tofu and rice. I ordered the Drunken noodle with tofu and rice. Stopped here for lunch and ended up getting their Grilled Chicken Special. It came with a side salad with peanut dressing that was simple, but tasty. They have alternate dressing if you're allergic and they will ask to be sure from the beginning. The main dish was really good with a whole lot of chicken that was cooked perfectly. Nice and charred on the outside and flavorful and juicy on the inside. It came with a sweet chili dipping sauce on the side. It was a very healthy lunch packed with flavor that contrasted well with the plain rice and steamed broccoli. The service was super friendly and attentive as well.
