I love Thai food, and have been to Thailand twice. It is clear that the Thai food in the U.S. is vastly inferior. I tried two dishes at Thai Avenue: Pad Thai - I ordered this dish Thai hot, and it was awful! There was a flavor in the dish, that I've never tasted in Pad Thai before, and I am not a fan. I had maybe 5 bites of this, and I was done. The spice seemed to be nothing more than chili flakes, which would have been fine if the dish itself tasted better. Thai style fried rice - This dish was fine. Not great. I remember the first time I tried fried rice in Thailand, and it was the most wonderful dish! I wanted to eat it for every meal. This did not re-create that great taste, but it was as good as any Thai fried rice I've had in the U.S. The great thing about Thai Avenue is the price. It is by far cheaper than any other Thai I've had in Boulder, and just as mediocre as those other places. So, if you can't have good Thai food (and it seems like you can't in Boulder), I guess you might as well have cheap Thai food. read more

I'm a senior at CU, and I have an absolutely crippling Thai Avenue addiction.... The prices are great, the service is extremely friendly, and the food is so unbelievably good that I end up gravitating over there without even meaning to. I almost never eat anything on The Hill, and yet I eat Thai Avenue at least 2-3 times a week, and in no way does that make me feel bad. The spicy is nice and hot, and miraculously the food does not cause a ruckus in your stomach at all. I highly recommend the Massaman Curry, Chow Fan noodles, or the Thai fried rice. A solid four stars. The regular menu is reasonable, but they also have a great lunch combo. ($7.50 for entree, rice, choice of spring roll or won ton, plus a drink.) I love thai iced-tea, and they will let you upgrade your drink choice to a thai iced-tea. Yea! It's in a food court, so forget the atmosphere. However, their food is tasty, fast, and a great deal. This is my absolute favorite Thai place in Boulder. It's quick, cheap, and beyond tasty. Some of my favorites include the pad Thai (a must have if it's your first time here), drunken noodles, and the cashew nut stir fry. I would rate Thai Avenue as a 10 if I could! I started eating here when I was in college. I was going at least once or twice per week to the point where I got to know the owner Kim very well. Thai avenue has THE BEST Pad Thai I have ever had! Every Pad Thai that I try at other restaurants I compare to Thai Avenue and I haven't found even one that's at all close. Out of all the things I miss in Boulder, I miss this restaurant most of all! Even though I live in Denver, I still try and make it up to Thai Avenue at least once per month. This is the one restaurant I have to visit every time I go to Boulder, cause it's so cheap and so good. We always have to get at least one pad ma kuer, they cook the eggplant perfectly so it's not greasy and the texture is just perfect. All their veggies are fresh and crisp. Are you all out of your minds? This is some of the worst food I've had in a long time. If you're looking for street food where the food is scooped off of the street and put onto your plate, then this is the place for you. Wow, I can't get enough of this place. Even though it's in the food court and filled with college kids and I'm 40 and not into that scene the food is worth it! It's so authentic as Kim & his wife use only fresh ingredients and cook each dish to order in such a spectacular way that it is perfect every time. They don't cut any corners at all even though it means you will be waiting a while during their lunch rush when they have 20 orders ahead of you, it's worth every second of wait time. This is a hard one for me. The food is absolutely delicious, but every time I have gone the vegetable ingredients look really brown and old and I suspect they often use produce that is way past its prime. As a result you usually pay for the deliciousness soon after, which is a bummer. I have heard similar stories from many other people who have eaten here. The cashier suggested the Street noodles, so I obliged. They were very mediocre. I asked for them to be a little spicy, unfortunately there was no spicy nor spices for that matter. Very bland, but everything was cooked well and the veggies were crunchy. I would like to try this place again as it is so close to my house. One of my friends is from thailand and they vouched for this place. I think this is pretty authentic, the pad thai is of course a must but their pad kee mow and pad sie ew is also very delicious! since it is on the hill, it is pretty busy so it does take a while but the food is served hot and delicious! they also have pictures of all of their foods on the menu so that was helpful. you get to choose from different meats or tofu and different spice levels (I always get mild) and they have sriracha and chili available to add in. I have been eating regularly at Thai Avenue ever since I discovered it a few years ago. It's location in the hill food court and its affordability makes Thai Avenue perfect for quick lunch in between classes or for dinner on the way home. By all means, it is not an ostentatious fine dining experience, if that's what you are looking for and/or require. Still, the humbleness and authentic flavors of the dishes served here have left me captivated and constantly returning for more. Unless you come during the lunch rush hours, you will be surprised at how quickly your food will be ready. The family that owns the restaurant has always given me a welcoming and friendly impression. I am delighted to see that their business is doing well, and I hope that I can continue to come back to enjoy more exquisite meals in the near future; it will be hard to move away from Boulder knowing that I will have to live without the dependable gratification of Thai Avenue. read more
