What happened? I admit, it's been several months since I last ordered from this place, but it was always one of my favorites. Tonight I ordered Pad Thai and it was just awful. There were no vegetable in it, no egg, just noodles and (the admittedly very good) pieces of fried tofu. What made it terrible though, was the "sauce." It wasn't tamarind and it wasn't lime. Their sign boasts the best drunken noodles in the world, but that is only if you like your drunken noodles sloppy wet, sweet, and thinner than pad Thai noodles. Level 2 heat was pretty spicy and I like spice, but also weirdly flavored...sort of bbq style. The ambience is actually cool, but that is the best part. The waiter was also strange. Ordered takeout via Yelp and it was super easy- I love how you can customize the spice level as well as if they use fish sauce or eggs (perfect if you're veg/vegan). We got the drunken noodles with tofu and pad Thai with chicken. Ive been to Thailand and the flavors at this spot are what my taste buds needed (considering it's cooked here in Maine lol). Was looking to get some quick dinner and ordered from Thai Etc for pickup. Got it within 30 min which was solid. We went with the drunken noodles and soup. The drunken noodles used pad thai noodles vs the thicker type which was unique and fine. We got it at level 4 spice which had a good hint of spice (owner was a bit concerned if we could handle it; did like that their level 5 also said "call bangor FD"). Overall a 3.5 star. I want to preface this to say that the one employee I saw there was really nice. Ordering and pick up was super smooth and he even gave me a piece of candy! I got the drunken noodles with beef at a 4 spice level and crab rangoon. I'm not sure if they were out of the wide noodles or if their version just comes with thin noodles. That really threw me in the loop when I opened up the box. The spice was up to par so kinda happy about that. Protein was kinda scarce whether it be the egg or the beef, but there were whole baby carrots, onions, and green peppers. We ordered the rangoons, drunken noodles with pork belly, and the "surprise me." The Surprise Me is a chef's choice dish...different every time. Tonight, we received a GORGEOUS pumpkin curry. I enjoy spice, and I asked for "Thai hot," which was perfect. It was balanced and deep, and enhanced the food - not at all so hot as to mask the nuances of flavor. So the drunken noodles are indeed excellent, and the rangoons are meaty and creamy - and fried golden. I absolutely loved the food here - and would reorder in a heartbeat. You cannot dine in, it's just a tiny little take-out on the corner of a busy street - you can park behind the building. Also - really friendly service. A little gem in Bangor! read more

AWESOME. Pure and simple, AWESOME! I TRY to save my 5-star reviews for vegetarian-only places; but, this one was so good, I am making an exception (I do that a lot). I was in Bangor and a friend who lives there highly recommended this place. It is a very, very small place, sitting in the middle of a gravel parking lot by itself. You walk in and it is nothing special -- 2 little tables and that's about it (I think it might be mostly take-out). The chef comes out and greets you and asks you want you want. I got the tofu / pineapple curry dish (you can get chicken instead of tofu if you are a flesh-eater). Within a few minutes, the chef brings me out probably one of the best meals I have ever had. It was soooo fresh and hot and delicious! It came with perfect white rice and the flavor of my curry dish was exceptional. I loved it. I wish I had been in Bangor longer so I could eat there again. Don't be scared off by the appearance of the place. It is NO FRILLS, for sure. But, it is definitely a "don't judge a book by it's cover" place. GREAT, GREAT FOOD. You'll love the chef! read more

Our favorite Thai restaurant! The food has always been fantastic! Prices are competitive, and the people have been friendly. You can opt for 1-5 on spice, and 5 is enough to make one weep. I can't handle spicy, so mine is zero on spice. Tommy makes tofu pad thai "extra juicy" on request, and it's the best I've ever had. Portions on entrees are huge! Appetizers like spring rolls and fried shumai are so great my mouth waters when I think about them! Food is prepared quickly and accurately. Some days, mango rice is available, and it's a huge treat. I've been coming to visit my Dad up in Maine for years. I'm not sure how long it's been there, but I know I've seen Thai 2 Go every time I've driven through Bangor. I've never made the stop because my Dad lives about 40 minutes away, but I finally got to stop in for dinner. I'm impressed! No, it's not a fine dining establishment by any measure. This is pretty much strictly carryout (although I did eat my dinner there tonight). The kitchen is tiny. You can see the whole thing if you peer around the corner from just inside the front door. I ordered drunken noodles and was a little put off that they weren't the typically used wide noodles, but I was very happy with the flavor and ingredients used. Fresh vegetables and just the right spice and sauce with very tender chicken. I'm sure there's better Thai food around somewhere in Bangor. Small place and it is easy to miss. We ordered to go order as there was not much place to sit inside. The owner gave us a table to sit outside but it was chilly and too dark. V had ordered drunken noodles and massaman curry. The curry was decent. Fresh vegetables and good taste. Not as spicy as ordered. Drunken noodles were Ok. Again, i wish there was more spice and kick to it. Noodles were not the flat noodles i have had elsewhere but the thin pad thai noodles. Doesn't make much difference to me. Overall ok place. I'm up in Bangor visiting my sister and yesterday had a sudden hankering for either Ramen or Thai. I finally decided on Thai. Now please keep in mind that I hail from central Connecticut, where there are some great Thai places in a small radius, and along with having had a taste of Boston Thai cuisine. My sister was hesitant for me to try Thai up here as well, but when a girl has set her sights on satisfying a food craving, watch out!! I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai with level 2 spiciness, along with an order of shrimp shumai (like tiny chef-hat shaped dumplings) and crab Rangoon. I say "people" because a woman took my order, and said her delivery man would be calling me with the total and for the address, which was odd but didn't bother me any. When it came I promptly organized a plate! They don't skimp on portions for one. The shumai was a bit over cooked and didn't have much flavor. The crab rangoon had great texture and was cooked well but had a vinegar-type of bite to it that was rather unpleasant. The Pad Thai was basic. So it was good for satisfying that hankering, but I wouldn't call it "great" Pad Thai. I think if the dish had come with the traditional lime slices to squeeze into it, it would have been a bit better. The spiciness level I ordered matched perfectly! So even though Thai2Go is nothing that I would write home about, it did satisfy my noodle craving. The owner of this place is witty, likes to tease, and is extremely friendly. As a first time customer, she challenged me to try the drunken chicken noodles. If I didn't love it, she said it would be free. I used to live in Hong Kong, which has a large Thai population and lots of Thai restaurants. This is by far the best Thai food I have ever eaten. My husband warned me not to go here. He ordered mild pad thai (why is all the pad thai spicy in Bangor?) and it ended up being the hottest pad thai he ever tasted. He complained his bum was on fire when he had to go number 2. But I was on a mission to find good pad see ew in Bangor and when I got my order, the noodles were thin. WHAT IS THIS ABOMINATION? Pad see ew always has flat, wide rice noodles, and for good reason. And I think they depend on spiciness to disguise their noodles' lack of flavor because it tasted bland and didn't taste like pad see ew at all. Honestly I think people who've only tried Thai food in the Bangor area don't know what real Thai food tastes like (four stars, really?). All the restaurants around here fall flat. For those who want good Thai food and happen to be in Portland, check out Saeng Thai, Sala Thai or Pom's Thai Taste. And in Boston, going to Rod Dee is a must (there's several locations). Don't judge a book by it's cover. Look past Thai 2 Go's location and sketchy little building. The food is great and consistent! Prices are reasonable and portions are large. It's become a go to for us for Thai on the fly.... Crab Rangoon's are good and actually have real crab in them. The pad Thai and drunken noodle are both very good. As are their curry dishes. Someone mentioned previously that their's was dry and flavorless... this had not been my experience, ever. You can choose your level of spicy (yeah!) and my dishes have always had great flavor (spicy doesn't always equal flavor) and been very saucy! My only complaint, is that occasionally my dishes have been slightly oily ( but I'm being picky here, because I'm picky). Overall, thumbs up for me. read more

My wife and I wanted to get Thai one night and didn't feel like driving to Thai Orchid in Orono. We decided to get this since it's right around the corner from our condo. We both ordered Drunken Noodles, her the pork and me I got the beef I think (It's been a few weeks since we had ordered it). Both were great! The owners friend from Minnesota was there visiting and we sat and chatted while waiting for the food. He had told me that the cook usually makes it a bit runny and ask him for them to be dry. As we sat there talking I learned that this place is all friends from Thailand and they live all over the US. They all own a restaurant in each city they live and often travel to help each other out. That's why I am giving this place 5 stars as you can not get any more friendly with great food then this. Highly recomended. read more

It's pretty good and the price is about average for what I normally pay for Thai. The #5 spicy still isn't that spicy. I thought it would be Thai spicy, but I think it's more white man spicy. The red curry was still good either way. The pineapple chicken rice was really good too. There was an abundance of spring rolls. They should do 2 for less $ as an option. They also have good Thai tea. I called it in and it was ready in about 35 mins. I'll probably use them again when I have my Thai craving. read more
