Let me start with saying I am from Orlando. I am a foodie and travel all over the US for work. My wife and I were just in Bangkok for 10 days back in February. This part of the review creates credibility... I was up here in the Bangor area for work. Did a quick restaurant search in Thai food sounded good. The reviews were above average and my expectations were below average. Upon entering, I was greeted by two very friendly young ladies. I ordered chicken, satay,Tom, Yum soup and a curry. After tasting the soup I was sold. It was just as good as in Thailand, except I was in the air-conditioning this time. The owner and chefs are from Thailand. Absolutely fantastic. The curry was hot and had the perfect amount of spice. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I had a word with the owner who was very friendly and grateful for my visit. I would 100% come back. The people of the small city are lucky to have such an authentic Thai restaurant in their backyard. read more

Wow! i've ordered takeout here a handful of times, always good food and no issues.. However, they are now open until 1am Thursday- Saturday and i finally went inside to the bar and lounge and i could not have been more impressed everything from pricing to quality to service, no where else in the greater bangor area could beat the experience you'll find at Thai Orchid! After heading up to Orono to catch a movie, we stopped in Thai Orchid after finding them on yelp! looking for vegan options. I'm glad we did. We were greeted by the friendly staff and waited on right away. The server was very gracious about all the questions I had to ask about what ingredients were used in the dishes, so I ended up with an order of fresh rolls and the Hurricane. Both dishes were excellent. The Hurricane was hot and spicy, just the way I like Thai food. Pair that with a Singha beer and I was in Thai heaven. I will be driving back to Orono just to eat at Thai Orchid, it's well worth the trip! read more

I really enjoy this restaurant! The pad Thai, spring rolls, and boba tea are all excellent, and the service was good as well.

Got the pad Thai, wish it had a bit more flavor and sauce, but it was pretty good. Thai iced tea was good.

Any special instructions we put in the "special instructions section" were completely ignored. Why put the section when they clearly do not go through on the kitchens side. Restaurant did not take any ownership of their mistakes. read more

After a long, afternoon movie at the Black Bear, we were ready for something more than popcorn! Of course, being plant-based ain't easy in these climes; however, Asian restaurants tend to be our luck, and we especially like Thai. So, Thai Orchid it was! Mill Street appears to be Orono's restaurant row, with Thai Orchid tucked right in there like a "pink palace." The ambiance was decidedly different from the run-of-the-mill Thai-inspired decor we've all seen before -- perhaps, because Orono is a college town, the "vibe" is hipper...? Whatever the case, it was inviting and the staff was super pleasant; server excellent and patient with all our plant-based questions. I'm a sucker for glass noodles, so Pad Woon Sen was my order (with tofu as a protein), along with a Singha (you just gotta have a Singha if you do Thai!) to cleanse the palate and sooth the heat. :D The dish was wonderful! Excellent heat ratio (I like it "Thai hot!"), and lots on the plate meant leftovers for later!! We all had a great meal! We'll definitely be hitting Thai Orchid again (many times!) very soon...!! The Thai curry soup doesn't come with all the fun fixings that usually accompany the soup, half the fun is adding it all together and creating flavor combos. Absolutely delicious!! We LOVED our lunch here at the Thai Orchid. The steamed dumplings, fresh and Siam rolls, drunken noodles, Pad Thai and red curry were all incredible! Was craving some Thai really bad, but Bangor's options are kinda dismal. I've tried a couple of them and they're eh, in that I'd rather try something else in hopes that it'll be better. If you order take out, be good and call to order. I was bad and ordered through DoorDash like the millennial I am. But I'll be good next time and call for takeout. I got a chicken satay appetizer, drunken noodles, and a pad Thai for comparison. The chicken satay was really good! Comes with four skewers and the peanut dipping sauce was really delicious. For the drunken noodles it looks like it's the norm around here to use thin pad Thai noodles for drunken noodles, so if that's a no for you, don't get this. I didn't realize that but overall it wasn't too bad. Good distribution of protein, veggies, and egg. Sauce had a good kick to it. Wish it was with wide noodles though. If anything, I would get the pad Thai again. Right up my alley flavor wise, although could have been spicier. It had the right amount of sweetness for me and the lime on the side really ties the flavors together. I got it with shrimp and there were plenty. Overall definitely a repeat for sure! read more

We came from NYC and you know we've probably been to more than a few authentic Thai restaus. My friend had wings and he said it tasted like frozen chicken that you just heated up in the microwave. I had the crab Rangoon and it tasted like they just stuffed them with cream cheese. The mango chicken was okay. The Thai iced tea was so sweet that if it's any sweeter I would Go through diabetic ketoacidosis and that's not a compliment. We just love getting Thai Orchid on a Friday night when we don't feel like cooking. Dan loves the Pad Thai (he will never order anything else!) I enjoy the dumplings :) I recently tried the coconut soup and it was very good! The taste was not what expected (in a good way). I get the rainbow vegetable dish - a tasty way to get my vegetables and maybe add some meat or fish. We have recently been adding fried rice and that was a good decision. Highly recommend!! The only downside is that we live just outside their delivery zone. If they delivered, we'd probably order every week! read more

This is a hidden gem. The unassuming exterior is merely a ruse for what blossoms inside. Very hip fusion like interior and not what you've come to expect from the typical. This establishment is anything but typical and from the exceedingly attentive and friendly service staff to the exceptional delights on the menu, if you crave authentic Thai cuisine you will not be disappointed. Went in based on the good Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. The drunken noodles and pik pow fried rice were good. The panang curry was good too. We asked all dishes as medium spicy, and with chicken and it turned out as a good option. The Tom yum soup was a standard affair. The steamed chicken dumplings was a disappointment though. We ordered two soft shell crabs for appetizer, for the main course, garlic with scallops and the crispy duck paradise. The soft shell crabs were terrible. It appeared to have been refried. It was drenched in old, dark frying oil. The duck also looked and tasted old. It was in a stew of mushy pineapples. The only good part of the meals that was decent was the garlic noodles. I was very pleased with my meals here. When in Bangor/Orono, I shall return. I agree with Jason M that the waitress (who is quite cute for a lady in her 40's) assumes that white people can't handle spice. That's why I told her to serve me my meal with 14 stars on the "Native Thai" scale. My nose didn't even run!! I guess I'll bring my own spice next time. I thought their crispy pad thai was worth an honorable mention. Their panang was fresh and the prices are reasonable. The decor is pleasant and cozy.
