Food is always delicious, fresh, and hot. Appetizers are great. Careful when ordering spicy levels - 2 is a medium spicy 3 it's HOT.

I don't know if it was the fault of a 3rd party delivery service Grub Hub or the restaurant, but when the driver delivered our food to our hotel room they left the food on the floor outside the door did not knock on the door, nor did I receive a text or call that the food had been delivered. After waiting 15 minutes after the delivery window had passed, I called Grub Hub support and they said that their record showed that the order had been delivered 45 minutes prior to my call. I decided to leave the hotel room to check if the food was possibly left at the front desk, and when I opened the door there was the food sitting on the floor outside the hotel room door. The Grub Hub app never showed the order as delivered neither did I receive any updates from the Grub Hub system via text, phone or email. Also, when I placed my order online I did indicate that I needed eating utensils and there were no eating utensils provided. I had to go down to the front desk of the hotel to obtain forks. Every food delivery driver should know that it is standard service to provide eating utensils when delivering food to a hotel. The food itself was mediocre. read more

Best Crab Rangoon you'll ever have. They have a great sushi lunch special. The chicken dishes are also very yummy. Local favorite!

This place doesn't look like much from the outside. We weren't able to find a sign with their name on it and this restaurant is located next to a Chinese joint and I think, another Thai restaurant. We found it though! And it sure does look fancy when you step inside. The dining room is partitioned behind the entry way, so I wasn't able to see much, but it looked sleek and minimal with a low-light atmosphere, white tablecloths, and little décor. Seems like a nice to place to take a date! My friend and I ordered our food to go. We paid about $25.00 for two entrees. Unfortunately, after we got home, we noticed we had a wrong entrée and that Thai Flavors attempted to call us. I'm grateful they called, but by the time we noticed, we were twenty minutes away and my friend was already digging into her food. I know mistakes happen, but even the to go receipt on the package of food had been tallied correctly, so whoever was putting together our order was completely careless. Cardinal sin of take out orders... at least get the take out order correct. Fortunately, the drunken noodles that replaced the spicy shrimp and calamari were fine, if not a tad flavorless since I'm not sure what the spiciness level was for it. Thai Flavors is fine and it staff is friendly but my big complaint is that they are really inconsistent from visit to visit. For example I may order their Hawaiian fried rice and one week it has mushrooms and green peppers. They also often leave out ingredients that are listed on the menu. Furthermore their sauces and spices are inconsistent from visit to visit. Their prices also are just a little bit high for the quality and Ambience and service that you receive at this hole in the wall. I recommend walking across the parking lot to café fusion for a better less expensive dinner or lunch. read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars, and again I am rounding up just because I want this place to succeed! I was craving papaya salad. Their online website had a menu which listed many salads with fish sauce. Yummie!!! I tried the drunken noodles and the papaya salad. The drunken noodles had soaked up much of the sauce by the time I ate them but they were still good. The papaya salad was delicious but I wish it would have been bigger in portion! They offer the level of spice that you feel comfortable with. I ordered mild but I still found the food to be very spicy. Next time I'm going to request no spice! Oh yah, the BEST thing about this place is that they line their styrofoam containers with foil so that the piping hot food doesnt burn through the styrofoam. Awesome! read more

Visiting from Dallas and ordered from Thai Flavors using Uber Eats. The staff were very nice when I placed the order given that it was only 20 minutes to closing! The food was delicious and the servings are huge. The plastic ware that is delivered with the meal is not strong enough to pick up the noodles so I had to get a set from the hotel - but it was worth it. I used to get take-out from here a lot, when driving wasn't an option. It definitely beats the alternative of pizza or other fast food. Also, they have lunch specials and are open until 9pm on Mon-Sat. Appetizers Healthy Rolls- I heard people raving about these, so I got several of the chicken and shrimp rolled in soft rice paper. I guess these are on the healthier end of the spectrum. I didn't think they were especially tasty or memorable. Crab Rangoon- These were really great, lived up to ravings. Soups I love the Tom Kha Kai and Tom Yum Seafood Soup. I would order the hot pot and eat it for 2-3 days. The difference between the two being that Kha Kai has coconut milk and is sweet and sour. Tom Yum is a milder soup with clearer broth. Curry Pumpkin Curry- really unique and sweet twist on what you would expect. If you are not in the mood for something spicy, I would really recommend this dish. Red and Green Curry are my favorites, really popular. Roasted Duck Curry- I really like duck, but I didn't find this anything to brag about. I would try the Avocado Curry, if I went back. The Panang and Maasman were a-okay. Thai Iced Tea is decent. I found it pretty strong, sort of like a mix between black tea and coffee with lots of milk. Favorite dessert hands down- Fried banana with red bean or green tea ice cream. When a place explicitly has "vegetarian" in their sign you would expect they would accomodate for vegetarians and vegans. ALL of their curry has fish in it. And when I finally found something vegan I could eat they brought it out with shrimp. Not a single marking on the menu to tell what is even vegetarian or not. If you have any special needs woth your meal steer clear, it might not be as easy for you to see the ingredient as it was for me. read more

This restaurant is number one in des moines........for dine in or delivery. The food is always exceptional, done to taste, and super reasonable prices! I have too may dishes to comment on each one, but everything is very tasty. I ordered sushi off of the cool basil menu, a little confusing, but certainly worth it! Thai Flavors is most definitely my favorite Thai restaurant in Des Moines. This review is only for the food, not the restaurant itself, as I've only actually eaten inside once or twice. I do, however, get take out or delivery about once a week. The sushi is good, not the best, but not bad. Everything else, however, is fantastic! The tom kai soup is creamy and delicious, especially with tofu as your 'meat' choice. The tofu soaks up the coconut milk and spices like a sponge! The drunken noodles are perfect, and the portion is enough for 2-3 meals for me. I also love the ginger meat stir fry, with julienned ginger and fresh veggies, it is very tasty (and a bit healthy, or so I like to tell myself). I usually order 5 stars on the spice scale (I believe the scale is 1-6 or 7), but I like it HOT. Most people I dine with say 3 is just about perfect. Delivery usually takes a little while, about an hour on average (although they'll tell you 1-2hrs) but it's well worth the wait. I usually order early, so I don't maul the delivery driver when he arrives. The drivers are always friendly, as are the hosts/hostesses taking the orders. Thai Flavors is definitely the best thing in town that you can have delivered to your door. Why even buy groceries when you can eat thai food every night? read more

Thai Flavors has established itself in my book as the best and most consistent Asian cuisine in Des Moines. After overcoming my initial skepticism about the restaurant's location (it's found in a strip mall), it has grown to become my go to for quality Thai food. The ingredients are always fresh, the wait staff is excellent, and above all else, this place actually makes a variety of homemade dishes and sauces that taste genuinely different from one to the next. You won't find a dozen takes on two or three base dishes like many Chinese and Thai places offer. It's difficult to recommend a few specific dishes, but the Ka-Phrao, Pad Thai, and Curry Noodles are among my personal favorites. Crab Rangoon and Spring Rolls (fried or cold) are both delicious for appetizers. During my last visit, my girlfriend spilled a glass of water across the table and into my lap. The waitress was very friendly and patient about it, as she had been the whole night. The wait staff on all my visits has been great as well. Lunch or dinner are both great, prices are reasonable and the overall experience has always been good for me. Would recommend to anyone with a hankering for spicy Asian food. read more

This place! Last night was my second time eating here but I don't know why because it's SO GOOD. Arrived around 6:30 and there was still a few tables open. I ordered the Tom Kha Kai soup, glass of vino, and the yellow curry with beef. All were delicious. It was a lot more food than I was expecting and I ate all of it. I didn't get any spice in the yellow curry but my nose still ran and I was sweating to death. Despite those conditions, I pressed on until every last morsel was gone. Worth it. I want to try the pangang, avocado, and red curry. Based off previous reviews these are also delicious. My friend ordered coconut rice with shrimp which looked amazing. I tried a nibble of the rice and it tasted just as good as it looked. We shared coconut custard. It was different. Saltier than I was expecting. The wait staff was very kind and attentive. I walked in around 3 pm on Saturday. I was greeted from a hostess that was seated out of sight. I walked in further and was promptly seated. My waitress quickly arrived with a glass of ice water with lemon and asked if I'd like the straw. I declined. She asked what I'd like to drink. Water is fine for me for now. She took my appetizer order - pork pot stickers. I ordered a dinner size yellow curry with chicken. That starts at a heat of 2-medium. I decided to go up a level to 3-hot. The pot stickers are perfectly crispy. I'd like a little more lemon grass to brighten them up, but they were great the way they were. The sauce was rich and a bit heavy. A little ginger might help. I still ate all 6 of the potstickers with sauce. The curry was loaded with thinly sliced pieces of chicken, most of which was very tender. There were a couple rubbery pieces. There were a lot of bell peppers, onions, and perfectly thinly sliced carrots. A couple of the onions were a bit leathery/papery. The flavor was delicious and aromatic. I then asked for hot tea. It was served without sugar or honey, but since it was cold and dreary out I enjoyed it anyhow. read more

Very good! I have been here only once, but it was a great experience. The service was attentive, and the dish I enjoyed was a curry dish. Make sure you take it easy ordering your spice level. Most people will burn over 2 stars. I love the individual hot teas that are served, you certainly can get better Tea in Des Moines, but I think this is the best "restaurant tea" i have ever had. My first time in a while and enjoyed the renovation. Maybe good for groups bc the tables are very close together anyway. Have beer and wine. Sushi chef and counter looked inviting. Great prices. Service was excellent. Enjoyed the presentation of the food and ambience of the restaurant. Tom kha khai is the best in town. Panang curry was things I dream of-subtle spicy, creamy, saucy and lots of it. The curry and tom kha khai were the top dishes of the night. Laarp was average and heavy on the red onions. Eggplant stir fry was meaty and delicious but could have used more of the star ingredient and sauce. Even the rice was to perfection, judged by the ability to form easily using chopsticks, critical to sopping up the sauces. Papaya salad was sweet, tart and fresh. Carry out packaging was also impressive. Hope to be back soon and will keep in mind for my next celebration meal. read more

Thai Flavor Restaurant, 1254 E. 14th St., Des Moines -- During a June 30 visit, an inspector cited the restaurant for failing to maintain parasite-destruction letters to ensure the safety of the fish used for sushi; the sanitizing solution being used had an undetectable level of sanitizer; a container of raw chicken and raw pork was stored above a container of ready-to-eat noodles; a container of slurry was holding at 69 degrees and had to be discarded; the ice machine was visibly soiled with accumulated debris; at least one employee designated as the person in charge was not a certified food protection manager; soup was being held at 107 degrees and was discarded; multiple flats of raw-shell eggs were stored in the kitchen without being refrigerated; multiple sauces and soups were stored uncovered throughout the kitchen; and no foods at all -- including noodles, spring rolls, bags of cut leafy greens, sliced tomatoes, bags of cooked rice, bags of cooked frozen rice, and containers of cooked chicken -- were properly marked with their preparation or opening date. The inspector determined that due to the issues regarding violations related to cooling methods and temperature control, the person in charge was not fulfilling their duties. The inspector also noted other issues, including noodles and cooked and fried meals being left to cool inside large, plastic bins; multiple soups and house-made sauces stored outside of any sort of hot-holding or cold-holding units; frozen dumplings and frozen chicken left to thaw at room temperature; the lack of a food thermometer; boxes of green beans, bags of rice, and boxes of leafy greens that "were stored directly on the ground;" glass cups stored in the dining room for customer use that were stacked while wet and unable to air dry; the lack of a testing kit for the sanitizing solution; and a ventilation hood that was heavily soiled with accumulated debris. The inspector noted that his visit was part of "an illness complaint investigation regarding allergen contamination and intentional contamination of food conducted," but classified it as a routine inspection. The inspector determined the allegation of allergen contamination was verified but the claim of intentional contamination of food was unverifiable. read more
