[ Visited prior to COVID-19 outbreak ] It's wild to think that the first Thai restaurant opened in the Seattle area only 40 years ago. How did past generations survive without a taste of Pad See Ew or Papaya Salad? Thai Kitchen was born in 1981, followed by Thai Tom in 1984... now Bird Pepper has joined their clan as the third and most recent installment. These three restaurants all stem from the same lineage leaving a lasting legacy on their traditional family recipes. Located on the second floor of Bellevue Square, the restaurant is split into two stories and is therefore much larger than it initially appears when you step inside. We walked past the classy bar area and were seated in the main dining area. Among the dark wooden tables, simple Thai-style decor and natural light, I loved the modern polished interior. Their menu is divided between into small plates, soups and salads, entrees & rice and noodles. They also offer two daily specials served with a side of soup for $13, but we decided it would be more fun to share a couple dishes off the main menu. After all, I never pass up the opportunity to eat "family-style"! The two of us started out with Chicken Satay ($12) as an appetizer. The plate contained three skewers each with a full chicken cutlet, served with house peanut sauce, toasted french bread and a small cup of cucumber salad. The yellow curry marinade on the chicken was fragrant and flavorful while the peanut sauce added a little touch of tang and some additional depth. Plus, the chicken was lean, tender and still juicy despite being solely white meat. From the 'Entrees' section of the menu, we couldn't resist the Bangkok Chicken ($18). I always have a craving for fried chicken, regardless of its form, and this was absolutely delicious. Tossed in a sweet spicy garlic and coriander sauce, then finished with fried basil, this dish excited all my taste buds! We took home a few pieces as leftovers and I gobbled them up the same day as part of my dinner. So good! Finally, we shared plate of Chicken Drunken Noodles ($16). The wide rice noodles were a little on the soft side as opposed to having that chewy bite, but between the chicken and medley of tomatoes, onion, sweet basil and bell peppers, this was a really tasty dish. Along with Bangkok Chicken, I ordered the noodles at the mid-spice level of three stars. I'm a fan of heat, but after taking the first couple bites, I realized I would have been perfectly content with two stars. They take their heat seriously here - be aware! While the portion sizes are average, I'd consider pricing to be elevated compared to other Thai restaurants in general, but standard for this area of Bellevue. However, considering the scrumptious food and friendly timely service, treating ourselves to this meal was definitely worth it and a highlight of my week! read more

Came here and ordered to go and I ordered chicken Phad thai. I didn't look at the menu before ordering, and if I would have known the phad thai was $22, I would not have gone here. Thai food can be expensive but $22 is absurd for phad thai. It wasn't that tasty either. They also don't have as many protein options as other thai places. Bird Pepper can be encapsulated by looking at their Pad Thai. The dish is ubiquitous among so many restaurants, and acts as a fantastic barometer for the general quality of the food served. At Bird Pepper the dish went above and beyond the standard faire, and had a character that was more complex than i would have expected. The smoky flavor made it stand out in my mind over many others. Similarly the other dishes had a depth of spiciness that actually enhanced flavor rather than simply being hot for hot's sake. The bar and drinks were visually impressive, however the value proposition just didn't gel for me. In contrast to the food, the drinks were expensive and i found lacking. The service was expedient, and this was just as dinner rush was coming in on a weekend. The design of the space itself is delightfully open despite the small space; the upstairs seating looking out over bay windows also lights the place well and give it an open vibe. Here's essentially the sister restaurant of Bellevue Thai Kitchen. Prices are higher than average and consistent with what you expect from something entrenched in Bellevue Square. We sampled a wide variety of food. Favorites were the spring roll app, pad see ew and firecracker prawns. The disappointing items were the pad thai (too sweet and sugary), curry fried rice (would be better if the rice wasn't clumped), and Bangkok chicken (not memorable enough). I really enjoyed this restaurant, ordered the Tom Kha Gai soup for two and spicy green beans. Delicious! soup was perfect not to sour or sweet. Most places don't get it right but this was perfect. The staff is amazing, friendly and really wanted us to enjoy the food. Moon was so nice and helpful when we were thinking about dessert. Shared the fried ice cream it did not disappoint. Visited this restaurant for the second time recently and was pleasantly surprised! I had visited before and wasn't impressed with the flavors but it has really improved. I ordered the Pad Thai with fried tofu (5/5). This was really tasty and the serving size was very generous. Everything was cooked perfectly and I was happy the dish wasn't overly sweet. We also ordered the Fresh Rolls with tofu (4/5). The rolls were very tasty but the peanut sauce was a bit too oily. The food was great, ambience was nice, and the wait staff was friendly. However, I'm giving only 3 stars because they food was way too overpriced. I think I could have gotten a similar experience for a lower price. We couldn't find the first Thai place we wanted to go so we ended up coming to this place. I was hesitant at first because I saw this place only had 23 reviews but it was 4 stars so I assumed it was new. Located in Downtown Bellevue, we had to park in the garage and then walk to the restaurant. Walked up a few stairs to find the place. The place is small but it was nice. You can tell this was more on the higher end restaurant. The setting was nice. They served us quickly. I ordered the Bangkok Chicken w/ no spicy ($18) with a side of white rice ($1) and my mom ordered the Traditional Phad Thai w/ Chicken ($16). The food came rather fast and the plates were already nicely prepared with the utensils folded in the napkin. The customer service was excellent! They never let me run out of water and they checked on us a couple times to make sure we were okay. I accidentally even dropped my spoon and the waiter at the bar came to give me a new spoon. Then what impressed me was that I asked for a box and they took my food and put it in the box for me. I didn't have to do it myself! The food itself was pretty good. Average Thai food with Bellevue prices. You do the math. I had dinner here with some friends on a Saturday night, as it was one of the few places that was able to take a last-minute group reservation since the place we initially made reservations for was late in responding. Thankfully, Thai Kitchen Bird Pepper was able to accommodate us. I will say, the customer service was great here the entire time. Our server was super nice and friendly, and checked in with our large party the entire time. For a group of eight of us, an automatic 18% gratuity was on our bill. Menu is straightforward and doesn't have as many options as other Thai restaurants in the area. They have your standard Thai dishes, such as phad thai, yellow curry, etc... Most, if not all, of the entrees were over $15, some close to $20. There's also a full bar here, with a few specialty cocktails and a handful of taps of Washington brews. Bodhizafa IPA for the win! I ordered the Drunken Noodles, and although the menu states it comes with chicken, you can choose any protein, with an additional charge for seafood. When I tried to order with pork, they did not have pork, so went with the chicken in stead. I also ordered my dish four out of five-stars spice, which the server mentioned was "bold" because the chef uses actual Thai chilis. That's what I like to hear! Food didn't take long to get, and did like that it was piping hot when it came to the table. However, my Drunken Noodles were fine, nothing spectacular nor something I'd crave again. Noodles had a nice sauce and liked the sauteed peppers. But I was disappointed with how few chicken pieces were in the dish. I also thought the four-star spice was not spicy, so would crank it up to five stars here, if you love spicy food. Portion was also good for one person, so would not recommend ordering just one plate of an item for family style. Glad to have a Thai restaurant in Bellevue, especially so close to Bell Square and all; yet, I do think there are better ones in the area. I liked the sweet chilli sauce with the rolls. Shrimps were fresh -Drunken noodles with soft tofu: I opted for 3 stars for spice level and it was just right. Starting off, the Snap Dragon and Koh Samui mocktails were both excellent. The Crying Tiger and Sun-dried Beef Tenderloin appetizers were amazing. The beef was so tender and succulent and a great cut of meat. Our favorite was the dry sukiyaki shrimp noodles and the phad-see-iw noodles. I also recommend the garlic green beans. The mango and sticky rice was a great ending to a wonderful dinner. My daughter has nut allergies and they were very good about accommodating her. Visited this restaurant after almost 2 years now. We were too hungry for appetizers and went main course. We got Thai ice tea and life is a peach mocktails. Have to say didn't really like both of them and might not order again. We got pineapple curry fried rice, panang curry and drunken noodles. All with chicken and spice level 3 because we had a friend who can't take the heat at ALL. The panang curry was my absolute favorite and was totally delicious. Didn't come with rice which I thought was weird but we ordered anyway. Pineapple curry fried rice add pretty good but could have had a tad more curry flavor I think.
