It's been a while since I've eaten Tom Kha, a longtime favorite of mine, and I was pleased to find this delicious presentation by Thai Mango. The proprietor was very friendly, and complimented my dogs which is always a surefire way to win my respect (and a tip!) from me. After reading all of the reviews for this place, they were so random. I thought I'd give them a try. I ordered the pad ke mow and it was absolutely wonderful. For those that complain that the noodles were not authentic those are 100% authentic. Americans keep looking for their noodles to be colored. They are not supposed to be colored noodles. They are supposed to be exactly like the pictures that are shown on others reviews. I ordered medium spice and it was perfect. Usually Thai food in Portland is overly sweet, but not in this case. Trying this place for the first time in the Cartlandia food truck center. Mango sticky rice is one of our favorite thai deserts but you have to get it while the mangos are in season. The mangos are sweet and tart and perfectly ripe. That's all I can say that's good. The sauce wasn't on point not sure why. The rice was bland. Typically it's a dish that fused together well. Been to Cartlandia several times, this is my first time at the Thai Mango cart. Each time I eat Thai at a new place, I've got a routine meal. Today, the curry component of that - red curry with chicken - was my choice (#22 on their menu). $10 for the meal, I received a take out box with a generous portion of rice, and the medium-spiced red curry. Along with the chicken was included some chunks of potatoes, and sliced carrots and green peppers. First impression, excellent tasting curry. Coconut milk wasn't overwhelming, flavor was spot on. Sometimes curries have one flavor or another that don't go - not in this case. Perhaps there was a bit too much of the carrot, would have liked a bit more chicken and potato but otherwise, a good dish. I'll be back. read more

Here in Portland we are blessed with what I consider some of the best food trucks in the nation. Just head downtown or Cartlandia and you'll find rows of them and in many cases, the food is everything as good (or better) as you'd get in a classic brick-and-mortar eatery. My ongoing search for the west coast's best Pad See Ew (noodle dish with vegetables and meat) landed me and my work buddy at Cartlandia to try "Thai Mango". We each ordered the Pad See Ew. Me, because that was the goal. He, because he's not familiar with Thai food and went with the "I'll have what he's having" approach. I ordered mine spicy; buddy stuck with mild. The food arrived at the window in the expected to-go-boxes and we found a seat in the little covered pavilion. I opened up the box and....well, yeah okay that's a Pad See Ew, loosely. In my opinion (I don't know, are there written Pad See Ew rules?) the ideal dish should contain about 50% noodles, and 25% each of veggies and meat. Mine was 85% noodles, 10% veggies, and three meager decrepit strips of meat that I will quite generously say was 5%. The noodles were incredibly greasy, I mean see-your-reflection-in-them-shiny. Way too much oil, to the point where my mind immediately jumped to counting how many extra miles I was going to have to run on the elliptical tonight to compensate for the extra fat in the dish. Spicing: meh. I tasted work buddy's, and found the sauce was identical, except they sprinkled some extra red pepper bits in mine. It had "heat" but no flavor. It was not rancid nor sickening, so I can't honestly rate it a 1. However, they deserve a solid 2 here. With all of the choices we have in P-town for cart-style eating, this is one you can skip without looking back. read more

Pleasant folks. Took the time to explain to me whats in the curry. I ordered red curry with tofu and vegetables. No coconut flavour, it was watery with really no memorible flavour. The vegetables were cut up very small and all over cooked. Their was a little spice. But over all their was way too much salt. I couldnt eat more then a few spoon fulls. There were so many carts, I couldn't make up my mind, so finally I got pad Thai from here. $16 for chicken and shrimp. 3 med big shrimp and a little bit of chicken. I always have bad luck. I didn't really like the pad Thai. It didn't taste bad, but didn't look or taste like I expected. Maybe it's their own interpretation. It reminded me of sweet spaghetti. Red,, greasy mostly noodles. Lots of sprouts. Nothing else. I'm not trying to be rude, but if I wanted spaghetti I would get it. I hate when restaurants have something common on a menu but it's different than everywhere else. They should call it our interpretation of pad Thai. I'll probably try something else there next time though. I'm just picky when I'm expecting it the way I'm use to. read more

I fully blame a recent Yelp Talk thread for jinxing me into being sick, after making me crave soup. After getting my Pho fix, I searched yelp for soup places near my office-leading me to the food carts. My Tom Yum soup was delicious. I did have to pay $1.50 for rice, making my cart lunch $9-but it was some of the better Tom Yum I've tasted lately. Savory, with lots of flavor and tang, and a decent amount of ingredients. Good portions, and the spices really helped to clean out the sinuses. I can't wait to try other items from this cart! read more

So i didn't get any food here, but I did get the thai tea. It's some of the best thai tea I've had anywhere and at $3, you get the size of a vent at Starbucks. Creamy, good tea profile and very refreshing on a hot day. It's a good drink to grab if you want to mix and match with the plethora of other food carts here to customize your meal! read more

I've had good Thai food in Portland and bad. This is definitely not in the good list. We ordered chicken yellow curry and it came in a paper box... Yeah... By the time we got it home the curry was absorbed by the rice so there was no curry left. The potatoes were hard. The onions were far too large and rubbery. Overall this was a very poor Thai experience. I know a cart can produce good Thai food (Thai Garden on 102nd and Stark) so that is not an excuse. read more

My wife and I ordered the Pad Thai and the gal taking our order asked if we wanted it spicy and my wife said mild. Her tolerance for spicy is quite a bit different then mine so I just went with it! I have dined at Thai Mango weekly for years, going back to when they had the brick and mortar location in Sellwood and before in Clackamas. I have always loved this thai cart, but today they went above and beyond. A few weeks ago and order of spring rolls was left out of my order. I called back and they said I could pick up anytime. Tonight I called them and they told me to come by. I got to the carts after 8pm and noticed they were closed. I was sad and chalked it up to a miscommunication. When I got home I received a call. The employee on the phone had my rolls ready and waiting and waited over 30 minutes past closing time for me to pick up my spring rolls. I felt like such a jerk for not just going over to check if anyone was inside and having them wait so long after closing for me. What amazing customer sevrice!! My favorite dishes are yellow curry, pad Thai, and the Tom kha soup. Their thai teas are equalling delicuous! I highly recommend Thai Mango! read more

Thai Mango gives good flavorful eats with excellent variety at a reasonable price. One of the most pleasant proprietors around makes it a pleasure to order, Pad See Ew ($6.50) with chicken and I feel that it was on par with what I have eaten in Portland. The noodles were a little moister than others but the flavor, although a tad salty, was delicious. The perfectly coked broccoli (firm but not crisp) was plentiful and really offset any extra sodium I may have perceived. Spring Rolls ($6.50) were crisp but not overly oily, tasty, and came four to an order with a sweet dipping sauce. Salad Rolls ($3.75) were big and had a balanced variety of aromatic leaves, bean sprout and cabbage. Two to an order and they came with a nutty sweet dipping sauce. Pad Thai ($6.50) with chicken was fairly large. The chicken was plentiful but a bit too salty. The flavors were good but the presence of a red coloring agent made this a bit below what I would expect from Portland Thai restaurants. Special: Green beans with beef ($8). This dish came with rice and a hearty portion that included lots of green beans (cooked firm) and onion. The beef, while cooked perfectly, was wonderfully soft and flavorful yet suffered from the same ailing that the other meat dishes did. A bit too salty. Plenty of sauce/juice made the rice go down well. Thai Ice Tea ($2) - Fairly standard and delicious. Tasty food (if a bit salty), reasonable portions, very nice owner, and good variety all keep this place on my radar. Happy Eats read more
