    Such oddities of wall painting

It's unfortunate Yelp doesn't allow zero stars. READERS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED - THIS WASN'T JUST BAD SERVICE, THIS WAS PREDATORY BEHAVIOR. My lunch visit on 9/26/25 turned into one of the most shocking and horrific restaurant experiences I have ever had. There were just two of us for lunch, my friend and I. Our total was $53.75 (honey walnut shrimp and Yang Zhou fried rice from the regular menu, plus eggplant with hot spicy garlic sauce from the lunch menu). I handed over $100 cash and was only given $46 back, not the correct $46.25. It's not about the missing quarter! It's the intentional act of keeping customers' money and immediately demanding more that makes this behavior so brazen and disturbing. This was not sloppy math. This was deliberate intimidation and outright extortion. The staff hostilely and aggressively demanded a tip at the register, repeatedly pointing to the receipt and saying "it's food total only, no tip included", before I even finished counting my change. They then escalated further, pointing directly at our table and saying "I don't see cash tip at the table," while continuing to demand a tip. This harassment went on for several minutes. Time felt like it stopped because we were both beyond shocked that this was happening at all. I asked for clarification: "Do you demand me to tip you?" The staff repeatedly gaslighted me with, "I was just talking to you," while still pointing at the receipt insisting no tip was included. We were a party of only two, there was no automatic gratuity, and the blunt entitlement was undeniable. This is beyond unacceptable! I have been coming here since 2023, bringing family and friends, and recommending it to everyone I know as the best Sichuan cuisine in Portland. Recently, I even brought six friends for their first visit because of my glowing recommendation. After this, all of that goodwill is gone. We left still in shock, horrified by the brazen entitlement, the harassment, and the deliberate act of keeping my change while demanding even more money. I have never experienced anything like this in any restaurant, ever. To all future diners: you have been warned! Do not risk your time, money, or dignity here.

So good! The food is super authentic and full of flavor. Portions are HUGE, so come hungry or plan to take leftovers. Will definitely be back!

We made a beeline to Sichuan city after landing at Pdx. Omg so so good. We got the twice cooked pork and the crispy fish lunch specials. Generous portions, 2 servings of rice came with each. They did not skimp out on chilli oil when we asked for some. The server was really nice and efficient. Also conveniently located near TJ maxx and Winco.

This unassuming spot in a track mall is worth the visit. Truly authentic Sichuan chili dishes, dry pot and much more. I have been all over the country and this rivals many spots in Chicago's Chinatown.

At the northern Chinese, I highly recommend this place. Dishes can be spicy, but they can adjust based on your request. They also have warm service. I will come back!

One of my favorite restaurants my boyfriend and I always have in rotation!! The food always comes out hot and delicious each and every single time we visit. We typically get the spicy Sichuan prawns, sweet and sour fish fillet and a type of veggie dish. This time we got the salted egg yolk prawns, and eggplants. And of course the sweet and sour fish fillets. It did NOT disappoint. The prawns were bouncy and supple with each bite- the egg yolk was a perfect salty flavor dusted with ample egg yolk. The eggplant dish was great, I don't normally like eggplant but I will say I will eat eggplant again if I could have it from here every single time! The fish fillet is a perfect sauce coating and lots of pieces are given. The service is fast. We're seated pretty quickly with a menu and water- even during pretty busy dinner hours. Ambiance for the most part is quiet, but there has been some days where it's busy during dinner times making it pretty lively. Lots of parking in the complex. Will always recommend this place to folks.

Food was really good and came out fast! The environment felt clean. Service was okay. I would recommend.

Food here was probably the best chinese I have had! 5 star for food for sure but location and ambiance was meh. It's in a strip mall on 82nd in Happy Valley so if I hadn't read a review in Portland Monthly I would NEVER have known ot given this place a chance. I wanted to knock down a star for that, but I would rather have amazing food at a good price than a fancy location and be charged twice as much. Portions were huge and defintely family sharing friendly. We came here with friends and ordered a few different dishes and I highly encourage you to try things that you wouldn't normally order. As the name suggests, this is Sichuan style food and different than your regular chinese american over sauced cheap chinese. Somethings we ordered were standard because I have a child who wanted chow mein and I myself wanted to try the dry cooked string beans, which can be found at other places but this version was not overly saucy or greasy and def had a kick to them, so I was a fan. We had the Cumin Lamb and it did not taste gamey at all but was thinly sliced tender lamb seasoned with cumin and and chili seasoning that was spicy and full of flavor but not burning hot. It was so good and I highly recommend it!! My friend also ordered a kung pao chicken which is kinda a standard dish but she said it was the best she had ever had. My daughter also ordered the Golden egg yolk tofu, thinking it was firmer and was not happy with the texture as the egg sauce had a bit of graininess to it. HOWEVER, I had some for breakfast and it was so yummy, the silky tofu and egg was a wonderful substitute for eggs with toast this morning! I also love eggplant and had really wanted to try out the mashed eggplant with century egg and green pepper that I had read about but the menu had it listed as something weird like mashed pepper egg or something to that effect. I loved it and have never had anything like it at an asian restaurant. The flavor was really tasty and (beware) there are chunks of green century eggs in there that I really enjoyed but my friend was a lil scared of. Lol. They also seem to be popular for their fish soups and soups in general and if I could get everyone else to share with me I woulda tried it out, but I didn't want to order a $40 huge vat for me to try a cup. But maybe I can find a friend who is more adventurous to go with me! I almost forgot to take some photos so the one I did snap were of the food left after dinner and there was a lot! Such a great bargain for the quality and portion sizes. I can't wait to go back again!!

Ordered Door Dash from this place during covid. I fell in love with the chow mein. I think it was combination. Finally decided to dine in this week. It was early evening and we were the only ones there, but folks started slowly arriving. Lots of seating. They have one big round table with a lazy susan for a large party. Nice to know. Everything on the menu sounded super good. I ordered the pork chow mein, sweet and sour shrimp and the pork with hot garlic sauce. We started out with a big bowl of egg drop soup. That would definitely feed 4 or even 6 people. It was HUGE! omg the food was delish. If I were at home, I'd lick the last of that hot garlic sauce. It was the right amount if spice and sweetness. The flavor was super yum. I want to go back and try something else off the menu because I have a feeling it's going to taste super good.

Anyone looking for hand-pulled noodles: as of May 2025, you will not find them here. They apparently stopped serving them. May return for: Beef In Chili Sauce (cold) - I love this dish and have had it at many other places. Chili oil was delicious; onions and cilantro went well with the thin slices of beef. Would not return for: anything else. Taiwan Beef Brisket Tomato Noodle soup - it was bland broth, unfortunately. Uncooked spinach and tomatoes added on top, very little flavor. Brisket was not very soft. Mongolian Beef Chow Mein - there was a puddle of sauce at the bottom of the bowl, which I would not expect for chow mein. Definitely not cooked in a wok (or done very poorly). Handmade spicy pork wontons - also not flavorful. If they used the chili oil on the Beef in Chili dish, this might taste better. But the filling would something to be desired.

Chinese Delicacy Restaurant - Yelp Review…read more A former chef of mine and longtime friend recommended this place, saying it was at the very top of his list for Chinese food in the Portland area. I'm still not sure whether he was feeling nostalgic... or slightly intoxicated when he made that claim. Like several other Chinese restaurants I've reviewed recently, the exterior leaves a rough first impression. The signage is faded, the building shows visible wear, and overall maintenance appears neglected. Yes, it's on 82nd Ave, so expectations are naturally adjusted, but even with that in mind the property looks tired. Inside was better, though far from impressive. The dining room was passable. I've definitely seen worse. The waitress was friendly, seated me quickly, and brought tea and a menu. I ordered a standard combo dinner with a few modifications. They advertise substitution charges, so I assumed special requests wouldn't be an issue. I asked for extra egg and green onions in the fried rice. Unfortunately, there were no green onions at all and maybe a quarter of an egg total. The rice was heavily saturated with oil, making it greasy and unappetizing. Instead of barbecue pork, it contained small, indistinct bits of pork. The sweet and sour pork was the only decent part of the meal. It had a thin, crispy batter and wasn't drenched in the usual overly sweet red sauce. The sauce was more orange than red and was acceptable, though nothing special. Personally, I missed the pineapple and bell peppers found in many East Coast versions. The chow mein was disappointing. Very few vegetables, soft noodles, and minimal flavor. It felt bland and uninspired. Let's not forget to mention the three small pieces of baby corn in the chow mein with deteriorated kernels. I'm pretty sure it was rotten. I can imagine them pulling it out of a 1970 something Tupperware dish in the fridge and tossing it in there. I imagine it was bought in a number 10 can and I've been sitting in the fridge for six months. My palette is quick to pick up anything spoiled. I requested hot and sour soup but was initially served egg flower soup instead. After pointing out the mistake, the correct soup arrived. It was scalding hot and extremely thick with cornstarch. Flavor-wise, it was boring and forgettable. One taste was enough. I also ordered barbecue pork on the side. What arrived were three very thin slices that looked and tasted old, with a slightly off color. Definitely not fresh, and frankly unpleasant. Overall, this visit fell well below expectations. Final Grade: D D for disappointing, with several elements edging toward downright unpleasant.

Came in on weekend for lunch and it was definitely a 40 min wait, but then literally no one on a Tuesday night for dinner. Somehow, the time for the food to come out was about the same. Even when there was no one else in the restaurant. The XLB and pot stickers are all super solid, not quite Ding Tai Fung quality, but at these prices and wait times they are great. Qbao's are delicious. I think the noodles are honestly slept on. They all have great flavor, super bouncy noodles, and honestly come in a size that you can easily finish on your own or still big enough to split in case you wanted to try another flavor. I also think the pork wonton's with chili sauce are also super slept on, the sauce is oddly sweet, but honestly I love that. Service here can be hit or miss. They don't really do a each table gets a specific server system, at least that hasn't been my experience. You'll get some food runners, and you can usually just flag anyone down to get what you need. But it does mean things can slip through the cracks if you don't have one person keeping an eye on the list of food ordered for the table or you have multiple servers checking in on you to see if you got all your food even though you just told the server 3 min ago you were still missing something. All in all, this place is phenomenal and approachable. I will be back, maybe not on the weekends though, it's not quite worth all that.

I love that it's a ma and pop but as an Asian person who eats this often I'm just a bit disappointed. Most of the stuff here is Ala carte and that can easily add up quickly. They do have combos for 2 at $30-39 but you're limited to certain cuts of meat. For most AYCE places you can spend $30 and have an abundance of food and options. I spent $53 here and was super limited to meat and a few basic veggies. Even with other places offering higher cut meat the prices here fall in comparison. Portions are also very small even at Ala Carte. Veggies add up quickly at $7 for an order. Another big gripe is that the broth here is super under seasoned and just lack luster for what hotpot actually is. I found myself having to use more sauce, also not happy having to pay for more.
