    thai crepe (park maw)

I don't eat thai food too often, but I feel like this is a pretty solid place to get thai food and I was pretty satisfied with all the things my friends and I tried. I also really appreciated how they had many vegetarian and mocktail options. For our appetizer we shared the park maw (thai crepe). It was warm and had the mild sweetness of coconut milk. The skin was soft but you get some crunch from the peanuts and radishes (as well as some savoriness). My friends chose to order the kow soi and the green curry, and the kow soi had a nice savory curry with a slight creamy sweetness from the coconut milk whereas the green curry had a nice deeper flavor. I also got the medium spicy basil fried rice, and as someone who's very picky about fried rice, I really enjoyed this. It was delicious and personally wasn't that spicy. I also got the frozen mango pina colada and that was SO GOOD. It was nice and cold, sweet and fruity, and so delicious.

Finally a good Thai spot in Astoria ! I mean Authentic Thai ! Creators of Top Thai in Manhattan, they finally opened in heart of Queens and the Mecca of Halal Eateries. Beautiful location , great food and better vibes. This was honestly amazing ! Try it yourself and check out my entrees I tried !!

Astoria's newest Thai restaurant, Thai Niyom, had their soft opening today so I had to check it out. The space is cute, vibrant and eclitic. The staff were very welcoming and made a point to greet everyone that walked in and even people on the side walk that were passing by who stopped to peek inside. I ordered the Chicken Pad See Eew ($24) and an order of Crab Rangoon ($15). The Pad See Eew was quite good and had a slightly smoky flavor. The portions were a smaller than I was expecting for the price. The Crab Rangoon comes six pieces per order and was my favorite of the two dishes. I loved the combo of the crispy wrapper and gooey filling. And when dipped with the sticky sweet Thai chili sauce, they were even better. I would actually recommend dinning in, if you can, to get the full experience. I got my order to go, but while I was waiting I saw several dishes come out, and the presentation was beautiful. It definitely looked like the kind of place where the dining experience adds to the meal. The prices are a little bit on the higher end, imo, but not unreasonable for the quality and atmosphere. Next time, I definitely plan on dinning in and trying their mango sticky rice. I saw someone order it and noticed that their sticky rice is green (flavored with pandan) which is a fun twist to this traditional dessert. They currently have a soft opening promo where everything is 25% off, though I'm not sure how long this promotion will last.

3.5 Stars to this new Thai restaurant that just opened on Steinway St in Astoria. Decor was colorful and vibrant and the service was great! There's 3 bathrooms and an outside sink conveniently placed in front of the bathrooms to wash your hands before dining. Unfortunately, their food was a hit and a miss. Miss dish: Grilled T-Bone Steak was marinated more like a Vietnamese style grilled pork chop. The steak itself was small and thin and had a weird chewy texture. The platter comes with a small papaya salad and fries. There was no sautéed mixed greens like the menu mentioned. The papaya salad did not have the authentic rich pungent flavor of fish sauce with lime which was disappointing. The best part of the platter was the sticky rice and the dipping sauce. Average dishes: Drunken Noodles with chicken. Portion was small and flavor was good but not great! Would have loved a little more sauce since it's supposed to be "drunken" to add more flavor and color to the dish. Drinks: lychee Thai tea, mojito peach mocktail, and lychee lemonade. Good but nothing amazing. My mojito had no peach flavor at all but it was still refreshing and tasty. Best dishes: Crispy Whole Red Snapper: this was hands down my favorite dish there today! They filet the entire snapper, deep fried it, then smothered with their sticky chile sauce. Wow! The texture was super crispy and it was bursting with flavor! The presentation was wonderful too since they put all the pieces back on the fish to resemble an entire whole snapper. The menu did mention papaya salad with this dish but we never received it. I didn't mention it because the papaya salad on the T-Bone entree wasn't that great so I didn't bother to mention it to the waitress. Thai crispy spicy wings: super crunchy and flavorful. Although we ordered spicy, it has a slight kick to it but I wouldn't call it spicy. Pad Kha Tiem (Garlic Sauce): we had it with crispy beef. Surprisingly great dish! The crisp up the slices of beef with a lemongrass marinade that made it crunchy and rich with flavor. The garlic flavor was not as dominating as I preferred but it was still a great dish! This week is a soft opening so we were able to get 25% off the bill which helps a lot since the prices were high for the portions. They should also consider doing lunch specials if they plan to stay long term.

The food is phenomenal! The staff, the environment, the food, the owners were all such a great vibe! Our server were very patients and had such high spirits. We spoke to the owner whom was very personable and told us he exports his items from Thailand. The food was super fresh, and came quickly. The lunch special comes with a variety of items and the entree size is a great portion. The bathrooms are super clean. Best of all the food is halal! Highly suggest visiting this place, the best Thai food in Astoria!!

Went for the soft opening this weekend at Thai Niyom with a 25% off promo happening for 2 weeks from the day they opened! They opened at 11:30am and it wasn't that busy as they just recently opened. Food portions were great! We ordered the Thai iced tea and Pina Colada Classic for drinks. For apps, we got the Grill Skirt Steak (8oz). For the Entree, we got the Drunkun Noodles (Pad Kee Mao) with Beef and Pad Kha Pow (rice dish w/ the mock duck). Portion size of the beef and mock duck were great compared to other Thai places in the city. For the drunken noodles, I usually like it without the veggies like the baby corn and green beans. Mock duck also tasted similar to the vegan option of bulgogi from trader joes or tofu! I enjoyed the Grill skirt steak at top thai, so wanted to try the one at Thai Niyom, but I think Top Thai one is still going to be my favorite because the sauce seemed to be a bit different. Overall 10/10 and would come back to try the other food options one day!

Best Momos around!…read more If the title doesn't tell you everything, this review will. I found out about this place months ago and it was finally time to give it a try. My spouse and I are always down to find good momos, and this being close by and Tibetan cuisine, it was definitely a must. Ambience: It seats a decent crowd. It has nice Tibetan artwork and you feel the warmth from the owners. It's cozy and it felt great. Service: Top notch. I don't say this lightly. The server sat us down and was just so joyful. Her smile and demeanor made you feel welcomed. Brought us water and asked the usual and offered to explain any dishes. Now we are onto the good -- might I say great -- part. THE FOOD. We didn't order momos on our first visit. Food: My wife got the Himalayan Rice set (chicken) and I got the Rildok. We also got the Shabhaley -- from the description I thought it was literal meat. The Shabhaley, to put it, looks like an empanada. It was far from it in the best possible way. The pastry was crisp but soft and the beef filling was divine! Seasoned with so much flavor and it was paired with a beautiful sauce. The Rildok was exquisite. In my opinion -- I even told one of the servers, whom I now know is one of the owners, that the flavor profile reminded me of a cheeseburger, and it's my favorite new dish. The Himalayan Rice set was awesome. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The tingmo (like a bread) was soft and delicious, paired well with the chicken. The dal reminded me of my own homeland's dal. We've now been back here multiple times. My goal is to try the entire menu. The vegetable khoty momo was surprisingly my favorite, and I'm someone who loves meat. I've now had all the flavors and preparations of the momos, and you can't go wrong! This place is a gem. Their quality of food is top notch, and their actual aunties are in the back making this with so much love. I want everyone to try it. The owner and his staff are amazing and welcoming. They remembered me from my second visit, and that speaks volumes. They're all down to earth and it shows. The passion they have for their food and their kindness shines through. Parking: Can be rough depending on time of day.

The momos took a while but the curry was out quickly. Both were so flavorful! The sauce that came with the kothey momo cut perfectly through the mild chicken filling. We got a four-top at the front of the place. The restaurant decor is pleasant. It's a bit dark inside, but welcoming. Our server was very friendly. We started by ordering three starters - Mantu Dumplings (described in the menu as: steamed dumplings w/ beef, onions, cilantro + spices, topped with garlic mint yogurt sauce and garnished with lamb gravy and yellow split peas), Borani Banjan (eggplant) and Bamia (okra, stewed with tomato and onion sauce). Each of the starters was great. I think my favorite was the dumpling, followed by the eggplant and then the okra. Although the okra dish was delicious, it seemed like the simplest one, and one I could make most easily at home. The server suggested we get an order of Afghan Naan to go with the starters. The Naan was "OK". I would call that the weak part of the meal. It was fairly flavorless and didn't really enhance the flavors of the starters. The three of us shared two entrees - Chicken Afghan Kabob and Salmon Kabob. Each comes with a large side of rice. We also ordered one Qabuli (a rice topping made of raisins and carrots, sautéed in a cardamom syrup). The Qabuli is an extra dollar. The server said he would put it on the side, which was an excellent suggestion, because the rice was flavorful on its own and the Qabuli on its own made an excellent, sweet side dish. The Kabobs were both very good. The chicken was moist and tender and nicely seasoned. But the salmon - oh my gosh - the salmon light, flaky texture melted in my mouth. I couldn't stop eating the salmon. The rice was flavorful and the texture consistent. Before serving the entree, the server brought over a small salad to share, which was refreshing - lettuce and tomato and cucumbers. We didn't order dessert. But the server comped us a Firnee (homemade custard), which was very good. We were so full we couldn't finish it (or most of the rice from the entrees). The portions here are a nice size. Bottled waters were $2 each. They were ice cold and a good value for a restaurant. Honestly, the prices here overall are very reasonable. The food is good and nice portion sizes.

Ambiance: The restaurant is small but has tables for you to eat at. They automatically charge a 20% gratuity for parties of two or more if you want to dine in. Overall, I would recommend this place!
