Fantastic Thai restaurant on a quiet block in Astoria! Not sure how long it's been around but it's a simple place with minimalistic decor. After being in Thailand, we had a sense of good Thai food and this place did not disappoint! Pad Thai - 5/5 great pad thai with great flavor and no disappointment there Khao Na Neua - 5/5 Grilled ribeye over garlic rice was also tasty topped off with a marinated egg Tod Mun Hua Plee - 4/5 these are fried banana flowers which was something new to me. Don't go close to closing. I give the curry 5 stars but everything brought it done to a 3. The rice was reheated and kind of crispy. The tofu from the curry and chicken from the pad see ew was obviously reheated/recooked several times. I absolutely loved the curry but I made a mistake coming close to closing. I 100% would come back closer to opening. I'm a big fan of drunken noodles so the noodles and vegetables itself were great. The curry was also fantastic with the vegetables (minus the tofu). The mackerel in the chu chee should've had more sauce but it was good. There should have been another mackerel since it wasn't very filling. The Thai tea was very nice - I enjoyed swirling toix the condensed milk and rest of the drink to create the nice flavor. It's a shame that this place is closing soon because it's such hidden gem! It's one of the most authentic Thai places in the neighborhood and tucked away on a side street. I went twice and got the lychee duck penang curry both times because it was so good!! The fried duck and the spicy curry both went well together, with a touch of sweetness from the lychee. A very solid Thai restaurant in Astoria. Came with a friend and got a variety of items. For appetizers, we got the Tod Mun Hua Plee ($10) , which they listed as banana blossom, red curry fritters. I like the dipping sauce it comes with to enhance the flavor to this dish. We got shared the Salapao Kaphrao ($10), which are minced chicken basil on a steamed bun. An order comes with two pieces. For entrees, we shared an order of the Khao Soi Gai ($22), which is a popular Northern style Thai noodle dish. If you never had one, I'd give it a try. And then of course we had the famous Khao Hor Bai Hua Siam ($22), which is the lotus wrapped rice dish with various yummy ingredients including pork sausage, scallop, jumbo shrimp, shiitake mushroom, and salted egg yolk. We were seated right around happy hour, and the host was incredibly accommodating and warm, making sure we were well taken care of from the moment we walked in. We kicked off the evening with a wide spread of small plates to share. The banana leaf appetizer was interesting. It is a vegetarian appetizer that has the consistency of fish and artichoke coming together. It was nice but was too salty. The sauce helped calm the salt down. The steak and rice was okay. The rice was sticky and the meat was chewy and didn't have much flavor. The sauce it came with was odd abd didn't help the dish. The chicken curry was okay. The chicken leg was juicy and cooked nicely but the curry sauce was very heavy, as if too much cream was added to it. It was very thick. The food is unique. I was here at this new Thai spot a week or two ago with a group having seen rave reviews on both here as well as their absurdly high Google Review score. The menu has a nice mix of common Thai dishes and things you can't find at most spots outside of Elmhurst and overall, the food was tasty. The inside is a a bit odd almost looking a bit like a warehouse if it wasn't for the little sketches on the wall which resemble some landmarks like the Reclining Buddha (presumably the Wat Pho from Bangkok but I'm unsure) though the faces have been for lack of better words John Lennon-fied. Anyway, the staff was very friendly here and I didn't have a drink though I thought of getting a Thai Iced Coffee. Another person had the Thai Pink Milk i.e. /Nom Yen for $6 which they enjoyed. Soon arriving was our only appetizer, the Tod Mun Hua Plee/ for $10 listed as banana blossom red curry fritters. The dish came with a couple for the reasonable price and was served with a sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. It was less crispy than I thought it would be and had a light spice presumably from red curry powder or something similar. This was unique and alright and probably the weakest thing but fine. My favorite of the main dishes was the very uncommon Tom Kati Sai Bua/ for $20 listed as lotus stems and mackerel in coconut milk. The dish has a light sweetness from the coconut milk and a pleasant light fishiness from the mackerel. You can also get a side of fried mackerel for $7 and I might do that next time I'm here. The bit of veggies in there added some crunch. There's barely any spots which make this dish which is a shame as I like mackerel a lot. Also tasty was the Khao Na Neua/ for $24 with grilled ribeye steak, garlic rice, marinated egg, fried shallots, and a Thai spicy dipping sauce. This reminded me pretty heavily of a cheaper version of the crying tiger at LumLum in Hell's Kitchen which I liked a lot there and I liked it here as well. The beef could have been a bit more tender but I expected a bit of chew because it was rib eye and it had some good richness from the egg being mixed into it. The garlic rice in there added plenty of flavor along with the shallots. I'm a big fan of Nam Jim Jeaw and the mix tasted good either dipped into it or not as always. Our other main dishes were on the classics menu though there was a twist to one. The Beef Pad Kee Mao/ for $17 with Beef flat rice noodles, chili, egg, fresh peppercorn, and Thai herbs was way spicier than the usual drunken noodles you find in spots and I appreciated that. The noodles had good texture as well and the beef was fine though I think I would splurge on the crab ($19) or mixed seafood version ($21) next time. Weakest but still tasty was the Chicken Kaeng Panang/ for $15 with panang curry, Thai eggplant, and lime leaves. This was definitely the most standard of the dishes but it wasn't bad. Light sweetness and a bit of spice though definitely less pronounced compared to the rest of the dishes. For dessert, we got the Kanom Pang Sankaya/ for $8 with pandan custard with steamed bread. This was essentially their version of a a kaya toast minus well the toasting. The bread was white bread but it worked with the custard which had a light coconut flavor. Outside of the pandan custard, there was also coconut as well which was a nice touch. This was fine though more of an afterthought. The food here overall was tasty. In terms of Thai spots in Astoria, I prefer Kam Rai but this is a close 2nd and the prices are cheaper here. That spot got a mid 4 and this spot gets slightly lower but I'll keep it as a 5 until the other reviews start pouring in. read more

Saw this on a list of best new restaurants in the area so had to add it to my list in my never-ending quest for Thai lunch specials. Went with the phat kaphrao after debating on the phone with the host. This was great. A lovely level of spice without being unnecessary, nice amount of meat (chicken), and perfectly balanced with the rice. Would have been a skosh salty without the rice (as someone who doesn't love rice), so I was happy about the last part. The lunch special comes with app of the day so I didn't know what it would be until I got home. Two of the saddest looking (but really delicious) chive pancakes (which I was secretly hoping for). Also comes with dessert of the day. Not totally sure what it was but it was some sort of steamed bread with a green/white sweet sauce. This was fine-wouldn't have ordered myself. For take-out, service was superb. The host on the phone was more than happy to discuss options for lunch and then in person probably thanked me at least 4-5 times. The vibe of the restaurant was interesting-surprisingly rustic. Will definitely consider coming back for a full meal but at the least would order the lunch special again. read more

I'd rate Krob Kreung Krob Ros four and a half stars. Casual Thai restaurant with a small selection of wines and beers. A trio of beers by the bottle plus about a half dozen wines by the glass. We decided to have a tapas style dinner and order six plates to share. The plates came out in very quick succession. All six plates arrived before we had a chance to finish the first. Luckily, the table was just big enough to fit them all. First plate was the papaya salad. Stark fish oil taste. I'm not usually a fan of that, but this salad pushed be a little closer to liking that signature flavor. By the end of the meal, I admittedly liked the way the flavor of the salad paired with some of the other plates. Next came the Banana Blossom Red Curry fritter. This was one of our favorite dishes. Medium sized and ultra crispy. A bit greasy reminding me of Passover potato latkes. These were paired with mildly sweet and spicy sauce. Moments later came the seafood tom yom. It was a reduced price and a reduced portion; a trade off that I appreciated given our dining style for the evening. Variety of seafood including shrimp, squid, and a surprise scallop. It was our least favorite dish, but still something I'd order off in the mood. Next came the fried chive pancakes. These came out piping hot and were perfectly cut blocks as opposed to the irregular fritters. The chive pancakes were served with a dark, sweet sauce. They were soft and savory. Another item we really enjoyed. Soon after the steamed buns filled with basil chicken arrived. Probably our favorite dish. Perfectly soft bao. Filled with deliciously savory and flavorful chicken. Though it was almost the last dish that arrived, it was the first one we finished. Last dish was the Thai style grilled bbq pork skewers. Served with a sweet scallions sauce. Well seasoned and cooked through. Fairly charred; I believe it was a coal burning grill. I decided to try the pink milk for dessert. It was milk mixed with bubble gum like syrup. Would have skipped that in hindsight. Service was quick and the pacing of the food was even quicker. Pricing was reasonable as our six plate and one beverage meal came out to about $85 with tax and tip included. There was one single occupancy restroom. read more

The server and host Owen was so sweet and had the fan on us and got us waters while we waited. We got the khao soi gai and a thai iced tea + chicken pad see ew. He got us a second thai iced tea for free for the AC situation which was so nice! The food came out pretty quickly. Once we got home though we realized we were missing our pad see ew! I called and he immediately apologized and offered a free entree on the house so I just got another chicken pad see ew (because you can never have too much pad see ew!). My partner and I have ordered from here twice. This place uses enough oil to put Saudi Arabia out of business. I love the flavor and noodle type in the pad Thai but everything is greasy. Their lunch special price on uber is great, BUT the quality of the food it poor. Not enough veggies or chicken, just carbs. Too greasy. And idk what the dessert and appetizer we received are... the appetizer, as you'll see in the photo are soaked in oil. And in the dessert, we were provided loaf of bread and green frosting. Cute new delicious Thai restaurant in Astoria! I've been here twice for lunch. The lunch specials come with a small appetizer of the day and dessert of the day. The staff/kitchen are very accommodating with spice levels (I prefer spicy, one friend prefers not) and dietary restrictions (have been here with 2 different vegetarian friends). I'm glad they have happy hour now (beer and wine) and hope to come back to check that out. My friend lived nearby so I came here for the lunch special that they have everyday 11:30 AM-4 PM. It included an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. The place looked small from the outside but there was a lot of seating inside. I ordered the Kaeng Khiao Wan lunch special (Thai green curry with Thai eggplant and Thai basil with jasmine rice) with chicken and my friend ordered the Pad Thai lunch special with chicken. The appetizer was two pieces of chive pancake with a sweet soy sauce and the dessert was soft bread with pandan custard. All the food was really delicious, authentic, and fresh. The green curry was actually spicy which was surprising. Not many Thai places have Thai eggplant so it was interesting to try it. Service was great, fast and friendly. I've never been so excited to discover a new Thai restaurant. This came as a recommendation to me and I was looking forward to try but managed my expectations a bit because my bar for Thai food is sky high (having traveled to Thailand more than 3 times now just to eat and also took 3 culinary courses!). Finally placed my order for delivery and my initial verdict is it's fantastic. Pad Thai (with Chicken) was excellent and not doused in sweetness which is what other restaurants do sometimes. Panang Curry Beef was so tender and they made it Thai spicy per my request. I know how to make this and their version is a winner! Also ordered the 4 pork skewers and it's such a steal for $10. Perfect with the sauce to dip it in. Fantastic prices and portions so far. Please keep it that way! The Thai eggplant didn't feel ripe enough and was more green (I'm used to the purple one in Thai dishes). It was still a great, soothing, and flavorful dish and the rice was aromatic. The Shrimp Pad See Ew hit the spot too. The noodles were bouncy yet firm, there was plenty of egg and Chinese broccoli which had a nice crunch, and the marinade they used was spot on. I love that you can taste the smokiness from the wok in each bite. We ended on the Taro Custard with Fried Shallots which I've never had before. The Taro Custard itself was warm and the taro was pretty subtle. The fried shallots threw me off a bit; I think this would have been better with a bit of ice cream or another sweet flavor.
