I really like Thai food, and so was excited tonight to try Thai Orchid on my travels. Very unassuming outside, and after reading others comments, yes, it is a great use of a former Pizza Hut. The inside decor is nicely done and makes you feel like you are in a small slice of Bangkok. Two beautiful stained glass birds of Paradise are the centerpiece of the wall that divides the seating areas. We were warmly greeted and seated. The restaurant wasn't even half full on a Saturday evening at 6 pm. I was impressed by the menu which includes 4-5 pages of very authentic Thai dishes. The customer is warned of those being spicy hot by special designation. For appetizers, we ordered the curry puff, and the dumplings. Both were good, but not great. Knew those two were not supposed to be spicy, but they just were just kinda bland. For main courses, we had an order of curry cashew chicken, maraman chicken, and pork Pad Thai. Again, none of them was designated as spicy, but they were really bland, especially the Pad Thai (one of my favorites). Everything was nice and temperature hot, so no complaints there. I guess maybe they've learned that the folks down here don't really like authentically spicy Thai food, and that's ok, they need to keep the customers coming in. Pricing is very reasonable, only about $20 per person including gratuity. Three stars is an "ok" rating, and that's the experience I had tonight. Next time I visit, I think I'll try something with the spicy designation to get the real experience. read more

Looks plain from the outside, but inside is beautifully decorated. Staff was friendly & took order right away. Appetizer came out almost 7 minutes after ordered. Food was close behind within 8 minutes of the waitress taking the appetizer plates. My entree was served sizzling & as the sauce was poured table side. Loved everything about this place! read more

Not the best Thai I have ever had, but definitely a great little establishment for the Sandhills. This restaurant is very nicely decorated with exotic silk tablecloths and thai wall hangings. They did a really good job at making this place feel ethnic and cozy. I could not give it a 5 stars review because of staff. The waitresses were not the friendliest and (despite having called ahead to make reservations) we had to wait for over 15 minutes for a table. My wife and I have been patrons of Thai Orchid since they opened some 25 or so years ago. The food is always delightfully well prepared and always delicious. The staff and the owners are wonderful people and provide excellent service. My wife and I have eaten Thai food from NYC to Seattle and everywhere in between...Thai Orchid is our favorite. Their curry dishes are quite nice and their Pad Thai and Kraprow/Basil Sauce with what ever meat (or tofu) you might choose never fails to satisfy. Our children were toddlers when we first took them to Thai Orchid. They are adults now and when they come to visit the "Orchid" is our go to restaurant. read more

I've eaten here many times over the last 10+ years. Generally speaking, it is pretty decent Thai food for Moore Co., and I've never had any problems with the service before. However, I went last night with two relatives and had a surprisingly bad experience. FORTY FIVE minutes after our order was taken I asked our waitress to check on the status of our APPETIZER. She seemed surprised and promised to check on it. Fifteen minutes later our shrimp rolls arrived. They were decent, but after an hour of waiting it was hard to be impressed. I asked again about the amount of time everything was taking and the waitress rolled our eyes and mumbled something about nobody being satisfied as she walked away.... Another 10 minutes later our dinners showed up. The Pad Thai was fair. The Bangkok Duck was good. My sister-in-law received her steak and asked for some "brown sauce." The waitress told her to try and enjoy the sauce that came with the steak... Can you imagine? She never brought brown sauce but she didn't waste any time bringing the bill. I took the bill to the counter and told them what had happened. They comp'ed our meal and we were appreciative of that. We will give them another try but not a single person apologized or offered any form of an explanation. I hope this is not a sign of what is to come. read more

Ordered Chicken Pad Thai the other day and it was good. So we decided to order again from this restaurant and the food wasn't good at all. We ordered Chicken Pad See Ew and Pineapple fried rice. My noodles were burnt, lacked flavor and was made with broccoli. I have had Pad See Ew at locations outside of NC and never ever have they put broccoli in it. The order consisted of flats noodles and broccoli that's it smh. The Pineapple rice had 3 shrimps and no flavor whatsoever. The staff were friendly but the food lacked flavor or maybe it was an off night for the establishment. Doubt if i will return. read more

I'm not sure what happened to this place because it used to be good. I ordered food to go for my entire family, $66.00 worth. First thing I noticed was a sanitation rating of 89, not good. Paid for my food and a !$10.00 tip considering the pandemic etc. Got to the car, spring rolls were missing so went back in and got them. Got home to find the entrees and fried rice were kind of either dry or swimming in watery sauce. I ordered one entree thai hot, which I've never, ever had trouble eating anytime before. I eat very hot food every day. This was so hot, it was inedible. I couldn't taste the food for the overpowering heat of it. I feel like I wasted my money. Spice Cafe is way better tasting, has larger portions, and is way better priced. read more

My search for a great Thai restaurant has had success. Unfortunately that success is 2hrs from my home. I found Thai Orchid (a common Thai restaurant name) by accident as it is located near Pinehurst, the home of the US Open three years ago. I decided to go here based on the number of cars in the lot of what appears to be an old Pizza Hut structure. Thank goodness I decided to stop. Atmosphere - Other than the hints that it was once a Pizza Hut, it is a very nice place. Well dressed (black pants, white shirt and vest) waitstaff, who are actually Thai, serve you at this restaurant. Food - I judge all Thai restaurants based on their Yam Nur and whether they have Sticky Rice & Mango. Yam Nur, because if they use good steak that means they do not cut corners. Sticky Rice & Mango cause if they only sell it sporadically (it was not on the menu, I requested it), that means they only sell it when they get good mangoes. I am happy to report that they do and did. In addition, this is the first Thai restaurant in NC to take my spicy request seriously...ouch, maybe too seriously. I think I burned my lips...ha. Good thing they had some Singha Beer to cool them off. Price - Reasonable, based on the presentation and attention to a special order. How did they get my get my carrots to look like butterflies? Overall - I will definitely be back one more time before I go home this week to see if their menu can take me further back to Thailand. Dee Maak!! read more

Definitely one of those Non-American restaurants designed to cater to what Americans think a Thai restaurant should be like. I've been spoiled with some of the greatest Thai food places on the western seaboard and this place does not compare, not even near. However its probably the best Thai place within a 50 mile radius, so if you're diggin' Thai, come on down. The foods pretty decent with a standard selection of items (minus msg, kudos to that). Bland, flavorless, and Americanized. I should never have came here. I don't know how this place earned four stars to begin with, I usually rely on yelp for all my food adventures but this time you've let me down. I ordered the Tom Kha for an appetizer. The Tom kha tastes vinegary and not traditional all. I've had bad tom kha and this really takes the cake for the worst. No balance between coconut milk and spices. Also, the choice of vegetables is so strange - broccoli in tom kha?? WTF?!?! This soup has a very strange consistency... I can't put my finger on it. I ordered the Pad Kee Mao for my entree and have never been served such a bland spin off of this dish. All the veggies are on point but there absolutely no flavor! Any hint of sauce is non-existent, oil yes, but sauce no. All the noodles were clustered together and not mixed in with the rest of the dish. On top of this I was served a side of white rice! Why would someone give me a side of white RICE with a dish that mainly consists of RICE noddles?!?! I am really disappointed with this meal and will not recommend this place to anyone. I hope I don't get sick tomorrow. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes but I won't be back to try the right ones. read more

First, here's the reason for the lack of the fifth star, the decor is outdated and drab. With that being said, the food is outstanding! Typically I order the golden wings to start and then dive into one of their curries or enjoy their spicy Pad Thai... Be warned, if you order Thai hot, that's exactly what you get. YUM!!!!! Best Thai food I have found in NC yet! I've had lots of people recommend this place so I finally gave it a try. And since then I have been back 4 times in a month! I am addicted!! The spicy pad Thai was amazing, but maybe a skosh too many peanuts on it. My husband ordered the green curry and once I tried that, it's all I can get now. It has to most unbelievable flavor! I consider myself a pretty good cook, but I am still astounded by the flavors in their curry, I don't know what the heck they put in there, but I LOVE it! Trust me when I tell you that I've tried them all and while this will be "best" you'll find here, that isn't saying much. Thai Orchid is beautifully decorated on the inside and their food is prepared and crafted neatly but the taste and quality of the food disappointed me. Located right on US 1, the Thai Orchid is a popular spot for locals and visiting golfers alike. Run by a wonderful family, the menu is expansive and filled with southeastern Asian classics. There was ZERO sauce on our chicken pad Thai with barely any chicken when I specifically asked for extra and was charged for it. So we had a container of basically dry noodles... Then the sweet and sour chicken... I don't even know where to begin. It was basically a few pieces of thin chicken scraps with a bunch of soggy vegetables sitting in a bowl of soup. I drained the soup out and there was zero flavor or sauce on the actual food itself. The spring rolls were okay. They were pretty dry. Overall won't be coming back here again. Best Thai food I've ever tasted! Everything just sings of authenticity like you just walked into a restaurant in Thailand. The food is addictive; you won't want to stop eating until you get full. I would recommend the coconut soup because it has this authentic flavor that can't be replicated. Tofu is always an option if you're vegetarian or just can't get enough tofu like me. There's only one thing I would change: the music plays three songs in a continuous loop and it gets kind of boring, but that's just a minor detail. read more

I never blamed them for my flat tire that happened, however, one of the ladies proceeded to harass me about the flat and tried to blame me for their poor parking lot. The man there apologized for the woman's behavior but after the woman realized I wasn't blaming her on my tire she then tried to tell me i smelled. I will NEVER go this place again.
