Walked in and felt already at the right place to eat Thai food. The decoration is well chosen. I ordered spring rolls (I got a plate with 2 rolls for $2,99) and as main dish the Thai orchid duck. I loved it. The food came out fast and was hot. My dish was served with rice and mixed vegetables. For people who like it hot and spicy the dishes can be prepared to the taste spicy, hot, extra hot or Thai hot. The prices are ok. Pad Thai is perfect: chewy noodles and the sauce is tamarind taste without the sauciness of some variations. My Bangkok Duck (red curry) was so good i wanted to finish the sauce with or without the duck. Duck was meaty and crispy! Portions are just right. My husband got the basil sauce with beef and was very happy. We get fresh rolls were are always perfect. I didn't care for the fried spring rolls Only because I prefer Vietnamese style where there's a lot more meat inside. Thai orchid has been one of my favorite locals eats for a decade, even when I've tried options in Raleigh and Fayetteville! I've never had a bad meal or missed out on any five star level dish in my years of coming here and the service is always professional, even during busy weekend rushes. Their to go service is also excellent and I highly recommend a salad with Thai peanut dressing if you have some room for an appetizer! Curry bread, classic pad Thai and all curry options are also a must have! This is my favorite restaurant in town and even during busy hours the clientele are fascinating to listen to, as they are mostly retired military who appreciate culture. read more

Finally, my quest to find edible, non-white people food in Southern Pines has ended. Coming from DC we have tried almost every Thai Restaurant in the Greater Washington area. So our anticipation of Thai Orchid was very reserved........but alas we have found a great Thai restaurant. We went for lunch on Sunday and we're very surprised to find the parking lot almost full. There were literally 5 couples who went in before us, so we expected to have to wait for a table and for service. Wrong answer. We were seated right away and our food was delivered within 10 minutes. I had to get the obligatory Chicken Pad Thai....as this is a consistent baseline for me to judge Thai restaurants. It was great. Just like any other I've tasted in DC. Unfortunately, the wifey ordered the chicken and basil. This is typically drunken noodles....but for whatever reason, they decided to prepare the dish without the noodles. This dish was not as good as the pad thai. The chicken was a little dry and, even though we didn't ask for extra spice, the dish just seemed bland. We also ordered Satay for an appetizer. The peanut sauce was watery, but the chicken was well prepared. The price for lunch was exceptional. $7.95 for the entree, a spring roll or salad and a side of fried or steamed rice. Dinner prices were obviously higher, around $11-$16. Take Home Message (THM): A rare gem in the land of Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden and Bojangles. It seems the best value comes from the lunch menu, but we would be willing to try the dinner selections as well. Good, fast service and decent tasting Thai food. read more

Thai Orchid is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. The only places that come close to rivaling it are thai pot in London and thai basil in Charleston. I've been going here for 15 years and have eaten here twice in the same day on several occasions. If they were open for breakfast, I'd be there. The house fried rice and Bangkok duck are my favorites, but everything is good as long as you get Panang and steak sauce on the side. read more

Everyone in town says this is the best- But compared to what I'm used to, I disagree. We went for lunch and my curry was flavorless. This has been my go-to dish in all Thai restaurants and it tasted bland. My husbands peanut butter chicken tastes just as described without any of the delicious Thai spices one would expect. Overpriced items. Not so hospitable staff. This isn't my first time having Thai food. I've lived in Seattle for the past twelve years and had Thai friends so I know how good Thai food tastes like. Although, the food was good here I don't think serving me cut up fresh spring rolls (to resemble sushi rolls?) giving me the illusion that it's more than what it actually is (it did not look like I was served TWO spring rolls) for $7 is worth it. And why would you serve your curry on a plate instead of a bowl? I might just be a little too particular but spending $38 on a small order of Pad Thai, red curry, and spring rolls isn't worth it. read more

Had the Yam Nur (Beef Salad) for lunch. It tasted really bright and fresh and I enjoyed it. It was the 2 star spice level and was surprisingly hot and I can't imagine what 5 star would have been. The spring roll was good, mix the soy and sweet sauces they have on the table together and dip the spring roll in it. The waitresses were all super nice. Everytime I go they make me feel special. Very prompt and curteous. I love that they can turn up they heat if you really want them to or keep it pretty mild. I like every dish I have tried there. My 9 year old wasn't enthused about the fried rice but he is more used to Chinese style fried rice. The yam nur I phenomenal. Juicy big pieces of steak throughout. My husband and I have both dined in and ordered take out from this restaurant. All dishes and appetizers have been excellent! We highly recommend the fresh spring rolls - they are fresh, flavorful and the dipping sauce has an amazing kick. The actual restaurant (a former Pizza Hut, rather drab) doesn't do the food justice - they deserve a nicer building. However, the wait staff is attentive and fast. One of our family favorites. So delicious. Some of our favorite dishes are the Bangkok duck, pad Thai, pad see ew, curry dish and and fried rice. Must get the Thai beer to pair with your food. Atmosphere is nice, quiet, and you will find linen on the tables. We like that you can customize any dish with adding spicy stars, 1 star being the least spicy and I think it goes up to five stars. I have ordered food out from here before and was always very happy with the results. I recently just has my first dine in experience and was very let down. There was a pretty big language barrier between us and the waitress and she didn't know what we were saying, and vice versa.
