Through the years we have had delightful meals both in Orchid Thai restaurant and with take-away. Hence today we ordered take away for a family dinner ... What a disappointment !! We ordered many dishes from pad Thai to Mussaman Lamb and chicken satay and none of them were anything we would order again. Both the pork and chicken pad Thai had no more than 6 pieces of meat and the same was true in the lamb dish. $90 for the amount and the quality of our order is outrageous -- sadly we will not be visiting Orchid Thai again. read more

My first time here recently, I was not feeling that great (everyone don't panic, it wasn't ANYTHING contagious) and wanted some comforting mild soup with noodles, nothing too spicy or fancy. I did a walk-in order for take-out, and the young lady who took my order was very helpful and kind in making suggestions. I decided on the #87, Thai Noodle Soup with prawns from the Noodle section of the menu, and coconut prawns appetizer. It was early evening so the place only had one table, but a steady stream of food delivery drivers came through the door picking up orders. It made me reflect upon the trade-off of jobs lost and gained in today's economy. On the one hand, the waitress probably would have loved to have more tables and make more tips. On the other, people driving around in their personal vehicles delivering food, well, that's income for them, but it made me kind of sad. The food was ready very fast. When I got it home, the food was piping hot. The packaging was interesting (see photos). I didn't mind it, and if it gets it home without leaking all over, works for me. The coconut prawns were delicious: crispy coconut coating, came with a nice sweet and sour sauce. The soup...at first I thought wow, this soup is a little bland, but then I thought about how our palates have become addicted to MORE! MORE! MORE! It's like the escalation of everything now where more is more and more is "better". We may have lost the ability to enjoy subtle, gentle flavoring. Combining the rice noodles and bean sprouts and enjoying the light flavorings of cilantro, garlic and green onion, it was just what I needed. Comfort food that did not need to clobber me over the head with an overbearing flavor burst. Also, I had enough soup broth and noodles for leftovers--enough for three meals. This used to be a fav of mine. Unfortunately they recently increased their prices ($3 more for fried rice) and then decreased the portion size. Additionally, they seemed to have doubled the amount of spices which literally made it inedible for me, even though I asked for 'regular' spice. Our server was nice. The food took a bit to come out. The tables are so small though. I wish they had bigger tables for a party of 2 lol I mean the plates were practically falling off our table. Maybe we just like to eat and order too much food lol I don't know.. anywho The pad Thai was my favorite. It was so flavorful, definitely would order again. The pineapple friend rice was good but we added shrimp. I don't know if they make the rice in a big batch and then just throw the meats in as ordered but you could tell the shrimp was just boiled in water (no salt I'm pretty sure) because it was really bland. I don't think I would order the fried rice again with shrimp. Like I said the rice is good on its own. The orange chicken was more bread than chicken.. but I mean it was crunchy. We were in town for a show at the Elsinore tonight. Our first choice for dinner was closed (Monday). So we began to look around to see what was available. We drove by this friendly, inviting-looking restaurant and thought to try it. The service was satisfactory. But we were disappointed with the food overall. My companion ordered one of her favorite Thai dishes (Pra Ram), and it was (in her words) "not a good version." The chicken resembled deli-sliced meat in a pale, tasteless sauce. I ordered the Lemongrass Chicken and was served something the server called Spicy Chicken. It was not spicy. The vegetables were bright and colorful but were swimming in a greasy, slightly burnt-tasting sauce. Was the place having an off night? But in times like these, the restaurant needs to make an effort to WOW on the first visit. Likely, we will not go back again. read more

The Pad Thai with shrimp was horrible, except for the shrimp. The lettuce rolls had rectangular shaped tofu that tasted like rubber. Absolutely tasteless. The dipping sauce was flavorful tho, with a kick. My entire order, with the Uber fees, came to $42 for one person. Ridiculous! I'll never order from this restaurant again. Meh. Pretty mediocre. We had the Prik King (spicy string bean stir fry) w/ tofu, the Massaman Curry (coconut curry) w/ tofu, and the chicken wontons, and it was... meh. I think we liked the wontons the best out of everything, which doesn't speak very highly of the entrees. The Prik King was ok, but it seemed to be missing some flavor (which I saw in some of the yelp reviews seems to be a common theme.) The Massaman on the other hand was pretty bad. One of the worst ones we've had in our Thai dining history. So anyway I decided on a 3* because I'd put my prik king at a 3*, but the massaman was more like a 2 or maybe even 1*. The wontons were pretty tasty though, I'd put those at maybe 4*. This place isn't _horrible_ by any means, but I'm almost certain I won't be eating here again, unless this was the last restaurant on earth. I am a big fan of Pad Thai. But it has to be done right. I tried Thai Orchid via Uber eats. The tofu Pad Thai was really good. The veggies were crisp. The spice was just right. If I had a complaint it is just that it wasn't as hot as I would have preferred. But I suspect that is because of the distance of the delivery. It would have been perfect if the delivery person had used a warmer bag to keep the food's temp hot. I will gladly use Thai Orchid again. read more

Thanks to my adventurous foodie friends, I was invited to have dinner at Thai Orchid in Salem. It's located right across JC Penney's/Sephora and is on the second floor. They have a small but very cool and interesting reception/waiting area with a wooden telephone booth complete with a seat where I paused to relive the 80's for a moment. Lighting and ambience was very comfortable and intimate with a break-the-ice level of audible conversations so I liked the atmosphere right away. Our server was quick and knowledgeable and kept our water filled up during our delicious meal of Pad Kee Mau noodles and Swimming Angels, which is a choice of stir fried shrimp or chicken served over cabbage and broccoli and covered in a creamy peanut sauce mixed with sweet coconut cream. I saw on the menu some dishes I am dying to try; massaman curry with lamb, Tom yum soup, red curry with pumpkin and lamb, and a dish that includes mangoes with choice of meat or vegetables. They really have a delicious looking selection of items to choose from and I was happy to bring home my left overs to eat for lunch tomorrow! read more

This place was a great find for last minute late dinner. Parking was busy because your in the middle of town around the night life, but we found some close by. It was not busy and they had space for our large group. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was really good and everyone enjoyed what they had. My mango sticky rice was great, although the mango was not ripe so it had a great sour note against the sweet rice. The chicken satay was very tasty but I did not like the sauce so much. We have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. In the last 6 months we have had several issues with orders, like inconsistency in spice levels, undercooked vegetables, watery curry, mistakes with take out orders. Tonight our take order was missing a dinner and one of our dinners was made with eggs after we requested no eggs due to an allergy. We had to wait for our order to be remade. I asked to talk to the owner who interrupted me multiple times while I attempted to share our disappointment in the food over the last six months. When we arrived home I discovered one of our meals had been made without the broccoli (and the writing on the outside of the box specifically listed it was suppose to have broccoli). It's like the owner just doesn't care any longer. Very disappointing. We will be finding a new Thai restaurant. read more

So glad we ignored the not-so-high number of stars and stopped in here! We were having a last dinner with our newly matriculated college freshman and she wanted Thai food so we chose this place. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the ambience airy and pleasant. I heard from our charming and competent waitperson that they have only reopened for dine in recently. They also just started serving alcohol and have some tasty beers on tap. We had tom kha gai, pad kee mao, potstickers, papaya salad and spring rolls, and our daughters had thai iced tea. Been going to Thai Orchid for years. new location now. In many restaurants now there is a FAIL because the restaurants try SO hard to do so. The food is ok. mostly Americanized with lots of bell peppers and industrial onions. but they decided Thai chilis, the trade mark of Thai food, are not necessary. Pizza without tomato sauce? Soup without noodles? Mexican food without Jalapeños? Can't be bothered? A big disappointment when ethnic food is greatly diminished by disrespect for the food and the customer. Thai chilis and fish sauce are the highlight of Thai food. When a Thai restaurant can't be bothered to listen to their customers I take my business elsewhere. read more

As an Uber eats driver it's important to me to meet my customers expectations to the best of my ability, this restaurant however has not allowed me to do so at times. The orders they get are either not ready or take forever to receive, they aren't organized half the time and or they don't even know what the order is so, as I wait for them to figure it out I was given poor service and a no care attitude from staff. My last delivery from them I had a double order and as my other customers order was sitting I'm waiting on Thai orchid to get it together, something that is unfair to everyone I serve. Called in my order at 5:05 pm. I finally got my order at 630 pm after following up with hostess and waitress asking where order is. Hostess says she will go check on it but never comes back to give me an answer. I get it that it was a very busy evening but tell me why it took me over an hour when I only ordered 2 food items? After the 3rd time asking where my food is the hostess decides to tell me there was a mix up on my curry order. How the f do u mix up a 2 item take out order and it's be nice if she would've told me that instead of making me go up to keep asking. I told them I'd it was gonna be more waiting I'm leaving and don't need the food. She leaves for a good 5 minutes and comes back and She knew I was pissed she makes a guy waiter come cash me out and the guy had the nerve to give me attitude for being upset. He points to the long line of packaged food on the counter waiting to be picked up and says with attitude "can't you see we've been busy?" That pissed me off even more. This is completely u acceptable. He also didn't give af about the complimentary Thai tea the hostess told me she would give me. The guy waiter charges me for it also and to top it all off.
