Once we found it, parked, and went in the experience dramatically improved. The hostess was very friendly and it really does feel like you're in someone's home to get a meal. I ordered the Pad Thai with soft tofu and the Massaman Curry. My coworker ordered the Pad Thai with beef. The meal was excellent. Large portions, well seasoned, and it felt like the chef really cared about the food. This place is tiny, so call ahead and get a table booked. The food is superb. We ordered the Drunken Noodles, the Massaman Curry, the Tom Yum Soup, and the Hawaiian Fried Rice. We share it family style, and it was all delicious. The Jasmine tea is also very good. Our server was funny and friendly. I imagine that she owns the place. The inside of the restaurant is nice and clean. The outside of the building is a bit run down and iffy looking, but who cares? Just go inside, and forget about the outside needing a paint job. My niece highly recommended this place, she said the Mussaman curry was some of the best she's ever had. My sister and I were nearby, so decided to try it out. Service was really friendly and sweet. When she came over, she asked if we had any questions. I asked about vegan options, at first she said that they didn't have any. Everything contained fish sauce. I asked if the peanut sauce contained fish sauce, and she said no, it was vegan. I ordered salad rolls with peanut sauce, my sister got the Mussaman curry with chicken. We were going to share, but since the curry has fish sauce. So that means that not only do they not have vegan options, they don't have vegetarian options. I had the Drunken Noodles, which were very delicious. This was a new Thai place, and not knowing how close to traditional their spice level was, I asked for 1 - it had spice but not enough to overpower, and was great. There was additional spice at the table for any bites I wanted extra heat. My fiancée had Pad Thai, her normal. It was some of the best she's ever had - not too much fish sauce, perfect level of sweet, and will you look at this presentation! The lace egg was an impressive touch, and we are believers that food is devoured with our eyes first, and boy did it deliver in this department (my drunken noodles were well presented as well, with deep fried basil leaves peppering the dish, beautiful)! I don't usually leave reviews but this place deserved it! When you first pull up the curb appeal isn't really there but I thought these are some of the best places sometimes and I was right! I ordered the fries spring rolls and they were massive but really good you could tell everything was made from scratch including the sweet and sour sauce. My main dish was Pad Thai noodles (chicken and shrimp) and man I haven't had Pad Thai noodles this good in a long time they were so full of flavor and the shrimp were masssive so was the plate. I've been here twice now, once with my husband, and once when I brought my parents up for the best Thai food ever. I've lived in a lot of places with a large Thai population, and I've never eaten Thai food as delicious as this! I've sampled five dishes now, and they were all amazing. To top it off the inside of the building has a wonderful, relaxing ambience. Walking from the dilapidated looking outside to the beautiful inside is like walking through a magic door. Don't let the building and parking lot fool you. The inside of this restaurant looks five star! The food is delicious and the lady working the place is so nice and friendly. We have had multiple dishes here and have yet to have something we didn't like! I highly recommend this local spot for Thai food. Friendly tip: when you ask for medium, ask for hot instead. Everything is mild. EXCEPT THE PAPAYA SALAD. She warned us and we didn't listen and our faces melted off and I swear my lips weren't the same for a week. Sweet home has Thai food like the rest. A limited menu mirrors their limited size and staff. Normally, these would detract from the appeal of a restaurant, but Sweet Home turns its small size into an intimate experience. Each dish is crafted with deliberate care, and while the net product admittedly comes out about the same as any other quality Thai restaurant, there's a pleasure in supporting someone with such attention to detail in their work. What really sets Sweet Home Thai aside, and why you should pick it over other local Thai options, are the people. Passionate people, who treat cooking as an art. People who are welcoming, careful, and stand up for their integrity. Let's look at an example. I don't have much of a mouth for spice, I'll admit. So I requested an order of pad kee Mao less spicy. The girl on shift said "I will make it for you if you want, but it will be more like, nearby Chinese place Thai, not Sweet Home Thai". That was enough encouragement to choose something else, but when she brought the order back, she surprised me with a small dish to the side of pad kee Mao. "I made you a little sample to try our normal spiciness and see if it's okay for you, so next time you maybe can order it". Making an entire extra dish (or, I suppose, portion of a dish) was so far above and beyond what I'd ever expect from a restaurant. THAT is how you make a customer feel welcome, and how you win loyalty. If anyone's curious, it was a bit too spicy for me. Much more pleasant to my palate once it had sat in the fridge. read more

The Drunken Noodles is SO good there! I order it every time. I would give them 5 stars, but their food is REALLY spicy and the last time I went there they wouldn't adjust the spice level to make my dish milder. So, I suffered through eating it. I like spicy food, but this made my throat and lips burn and tingle. So, sadly I don't think I can eat there anymore. Hopefully they read this review and change. The Tom Kha soup is really good there too. read more

I had the Massaman Curry with Chicken and brown rice. Normally, I order the hottest spice level at other Thai restaurants, but the hostess convinced me to try medium spice, which I did. The medium spice was perfect for what I was seeking and was still hotter than the hottest I find other places. I felt the heat, but could still taste the complex flavors of the curry. The hostess was very friendly and happy to answer questions. I will definitely return and may even try Thai hot, just to see how hot it really is. =) I rate this place with 5 stars based on the cleanliness, friendliness, service, quality and flavorful food, and atmosphere. I was very surprised that I was the only customer dining in, but it was late when I arrived. The only complaint that I have is that they do not offer a dessert. I was craving black sticky-rice pudding, or mango sticky-rice. However, I will certainly consider this one of my favorite Thai restaurants and will be back for more. After months of searching, I have finally found a good Thai restaurant in the Salem Oregon area! This place is a tiny little spot on the side of the road and you wouldn't expect it to actually be a restaurant. When you go inside, the restaurant is actually very comfortable, the customer service was quick and simple; very pleasant people.
