On a random conversation, Mom mentioned how much she missed the Thai BBQ located on 3rd street in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Apparently, she wasn't aware there was a location closer to home - this one. (I also mentioned a location in Cerritos which is still an easier drive than Los Angeles.) So I advised her that at anytime she felt like having any of her favorite dishes there, I'm willing to take her. And then an idea: how about now. And it was the perfect nexus. We started our day really early, we haven't eaten all morning, we were about to complete the last errand for the day and hanger pangs were kinda nippin' at us. We came through very close to opening hour and already one customer putting in a to-go order. That's a pretty good sign. We were seated as soon as our server finished with that to-go order. Mom was laser focused. She wanted S1: BBQ chicken, the very dish they are famous for. I went for S6: Sweet Angel special. (I'm a total sucker for angel wings, be it an app or a main dish.) We also ordered Thai iced tea which was deliciously refreshing most especially during these hot summer days. It's a simply decorated restaurant with a bit of Thai related decor. It's very clean, not a bit of clutter, even all the tables were ready for seating. S1 came out a few minutes later. Immediately, the chicken's aroma, took me all the way back to 30+yrs ago at the KTown location. I took a small bite and it is EXACTLY as I remembered it from way back then. It was and still is PERFECT. I wanted more, but didn't want to take on a meal that doesn't belong to me, plus I had my own dish to look forward to. Our server came to me after a few minutes to let me know my dish usually takes longer to prep and apologized for the delay. I told her no apologies needed and that the wait wasn't an issue. I also made sure to let her know that I appreciated the S1 coming out when it did since Mom was hungry. About five minutes and my dish came out. Made to order HOT (I dove in too quickly, totally my fault.) After a few more seconds with the wings cooled off, took my first bite and: YUMMMMMM!!! The chicken was tender and the stuffing was moist and seasoned well. The shrimp fried rice was cooked and seasoned great. The dish was perfect! They were also generous. Our dishes left us plenty for a second meal. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. (Will explain below.) VALUE: 5. PARKING: Private lot with plenty of spots shared with others. Street parking available also, but probably won't need it. OVERALL: 4.75. A star off on service for this particular reason: Hubbers was home so I asked if he was interested in anything from here. He asked for drunken noodles and beef sate. Our server said beef sate ala carte comes with 6 pieces. For a difference of +$3.50, S8 (Sate Dinner) would give s 8 pieces and shrimp fried rice. It's an upsell, sure, but I felt it was worth it. So I went for that. When we got home and Hubbers finally opened it, I asked how many pieces were there. Unaware of the conversation I had with the server, he replied with "7." Mom said this is one of the reasons why sometimes you have to open the bag and double check before leaving. I'll be doing that from here on out. Hubbers said the beef was seasoned nicely but needed a bit more tenderizing to make it perfect. He had high praises for the drunken noodles. A great run albeit a less than perfect one. There will be very many visits in the future. Might just try their weekday lunch specials someday. read more

This restaurant just keeps failing in all categories. The other day my husband ordered 3 lunch specials. It cost him $52, of which were overpriced. Then, the food to go box looked like it was someone's leftover and gave it to my husband. The 2 pieces of bbq chicken were so small, the rice didn't taste like how it used to. And, the audacity to not include utensils on a to go order is just insane. We have given this place too many chances to improve and this time for sure as a family we ban coming to this place completely. There is no coming back from these recent orders we received. My wife was missing this Thai place, so we went one evening for dinner. The place was similar to a fast food place. They had one waiter who does not look like she know what she's doing. She had to get our order twice, and while bringing out the food was still confused. Food was okay. the normal stuff that we ordered were a little underwhelmed. We use to go to the one in Cerritos, and the items we ordered were pretty much the same. BBQ spare ribs, Pad Sew Euw and Panang. The only one we actually enjoyed is the Crispy Garlic Pork. Thai BBQ is one of my favorite foods, so I decided to try the Carson location. We arrived around 7:30 PM and were told they closed at 8:30, with the kitchen closing at 8:15. I understood and told them we would be quick. From the beginning, I felt rushed while ordering. When my beef satay arrived, it looked fine on top, but the bottom was clearly burnt and tasted burnt. When I politely told the server, he became defensive and argued that "that's how the grill is supposed to look." At that point, I lost my appetite and asked for my Pad Thai to go. If they didn't want to take dine-in customers that close to closing, I would have completely understood. But accepting us and then rushing us and arguing over burnt food made the experience very disappointing. read more

I never get tired of updating my reviews especially when it's so well deserved. C and the other young ladies at Thai Original BBQ in Carson are simply amazing. They always greet us with a warm smile, make us feel welcome, and take the time to ask how we're doing. Honestly, their outstanding customer service alone deserves five stars! This is our favorite restaurant to eat after church. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Some of our favorites are the S1 BBQ chicken, ribs, shrimp Pad Thai, chicken noodles (and they always remember my daughter's special request of no veggies and extra noodles!), Tom Yum soup, egg rolls, and cucumber salad. This visit, I brought my brother, who was visiting from Arizona, and he enjoyed both the food and the service just as much as we do. I truly don't understand the negative reviews b/c this is hands down our favorite Thai restaurant. We've tried Thai BBQ chicken from other places, but we're always disappointed and end up comparing it to Thai Original BBQ. The chicken here is exactly how it should be, and that's why we keep coming back. They've even made some major renovations to update the look of the restaurant and we love the new look! Stopped by for dinner on a Friday evening. I had the chicken sa-te dinner which was overall lackluster. The chicken itself was fine but I have had many better sa-tes. It came with a large side of shrimp fried rice - the rice tasted pretty plain (but tinted pink) and had just two shrimps. I did love the cucumber salad/dip and peanut dipping sauces. I felt that the price around $21 was a bit steep but it did come with 8 skewers which was a hearty portion so that helped balance the price. Many of these reviews mention bad service. Came in for a high school lunch reunion. We had reserved tables and ordered several dishes. The servings were huge and full of flavor. The tom yum soup had a nice balance of sourness and spice. The green papaya salad with mango was refreshing. The barbecue chicken with shrimp fried rice was tender and came with honey sauce. The garlic spare rib was garlicky. If I had to pick my favorite restaurant in Carson, it would definitely be this place! Maybe it's the nostalgia talking, but I've been eating here since high school and it never disappoints. Everyone loves the S8 chicken or beef sticks, and yes...they're tasty, especially with that amazing peanut sauce. But my personal go-to has always been the S1 BBQ chicken. Their take on the BBQ sauce is sooo good, it's got this sweet, almost honey-like consistency that pairs perfectly with the chicken and their signature pink/orange fried rice. They even add two shrimp in there, sounds minimal, but honestly, it's the perfect amount. I also highly recommend trying their Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and the Tom Yum soup, total comfort food. That always makes me nervous but I've been to a chain location before. Anyway I ordered they were quick and food was ok. Problem was rice was actually cold. Rude staff! I called about 20 minutes before they closed to place an order for takeout. The person over the phone (old man with glasses; co-owner) reminded me that they close at 8:30 pm and warned me I needed to arrive by then if I wanted to place an order. The tone of his voice sounded rude and abrupt, which was disappointing. When I arrived at the restaurant, there was no greeting or welcoming attitude. Instead, I was simply given the price without any friendly interaction or assistance. It felt quite impersonal and unwelcoming. While I understand closing times can be strict, I believe better customer service and a more courteous attitude would greatly improve the customer experience. I've been coming here since I was about 4 years old and has always been my favorite spot for Thai food. Was a little jaded by the current reviews BUT Just went back today for New Years to check it out with my family and want everyone to know the negative reviews are BS. It is reminiscent of my childhood and tastes so delicious. The rice is back to the nice orange color and delicious flavor! The bbq is soft and the crab fried rice is meaty ! The wings of angel is crispy and thick with meat. The pad Thai is really really good! And to mention the bad reviews abt the waiter, I don't know where that has come from. I was trying to call around 7:15pm to put a togo order and I literally tried & called 20 times!!!! Nobody picked up and I had to go in person. So they Do Not want to make Money or Sell to Customers. I also realized their combination soup is not to the original recipe like the other Thai BBQ chain they have. They put carrots and whole large mushrooms to deter from putting more meat, ect. I was going to dine in for lunch today at around 12:30pm. I waited for the gentleman ahead of me to be seated. The waiter then approached me and I told him table for one. I asked to be seated in the other room and was told it was being used for a meeting. The waiter suggested I sit on the table closest to the main door as you come on and I politely requested to sit on the corner with the same amount of seats as he was offering me. He said and this is the waiter who is bald and Asian, "well if I sit you there, and 5 people come in, they wont have a place to sit" which was false. The table i was asking to sit only seated four and the table next to me seated five. So I said respectfully, Im good and walked out and he had a smirk on his face as I said that. I have tried Thai Original BBQ at other locations but this was my first time trying the Carson location. I came during my lunch hour on a Monday and it wasn't crowded so I was seated right away. There was 1 lady working the floor but she was very nice and would stop by frequently to check up. I ordered a beef satay appetizer and for entree I opted for the Ruby Cornish hen. The satay was very flavorful and surprisingly one of the better satays I've had. The beef had a nice char on it with complimented to dipping sauces well. The Ruby Cornish hen was delicious and fired perfect, the texture was more of a tempura type batter. Was visiting from Hawaii and love Thai food. So my folks decided to take me over here. We ordered almost half of the menu as me and my family loves to eat. Food was amazing except for the plain rice. I have been coming here for many years since I used to live in Carson. I decided to take my son and aunt here last week. The server was so nice. We requested to sit close to the aquarium and they let us sit right next to it. Then the server showed my son how to feed the fish and even gave him some pellets so he can do it. The aquarium is brand new and no longer situated in the front of the restaurant. The food is good and the bbq chicken still tastes the same as always. This is what they are known for.
