My favorite and go-to restaurant when I was in college. I think I was here every lunch time. My favorites are the drunken noodles and the fried ice cream. And yes, until now (8 years later), I still order the same items. I only rated four stars because other non-noodle items are not as good as their noodles and desserts. Great authentic Thai restaurant in downtown Scranton. The rather dilapidated exterior adds to its hole-in-the-wall credibility, and the portion sizes are very generous. Only detraction I've experienced is the street parking in downtown Scranton, which is a mess. read more

My husband and I order take out frequently, which is exceptionally fast and efficient. The drunken noodles and calamari are my favorite. My only issue is the spice level for the food changes frequently. You are given the option of no spice, mild, medium, or hot. However, ordering mild one day can mean your mouth is on fire and the next time you taste no spice at all. This seems to change just based off of who cooked your food that day. read more

Thai Rak Thai is one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Scranton. The staff is tremendously kind and customer oriented. I consider this place a diamond in the rough. I started coming here for lunches and let me say that this is one of the best place around to get a bubble tea. The tapioca is so chewy while the drink itself is smooth. Their fried rice is also pretty nice my only complain is probably when editing the food. I once asked for less salt in my drunken noodle, oh boy were those drunken noodle so salty the first time I tried them. Rather than just being your usual spicy drunken noodle with manageable salt level, it was sweet? I was in Scranton for business 1 night and was fortunate to find this gem via Yelp! My wife is Thai, so I'm very familiar with Thai food. This place was excellent! I ordered the Basil Chicken and had them customize it for me the way I like it, which they were more than happy to do. I got "American Spicy" (3 on a 1-5 scale) and it was just right. Love this place!! We have been here several times and each time the food has been great and the prices reasonable. In fact last night the 3 of us ate for less than $60 (including apps and dinners and a side). The curries are delicious- esp. the red- and nicely spicy. We also had the drunken noodles with pork which were also great. I highly recommend the Larb. It's a small plate that you can order as an appetizer that is cold, cooked ground chicken (or beef). The meat is lightly sweet and spicy. It's delicious. The only small knock is the service. It's so-so but only because there are too few people covering the restaurant. Love this place! read more

i approve of this place. the food was excellent and the service was attentive, but not overbearing. i took Colin's advice and got the drunken noodles, and was impressed. also ordered it reasonably spicy (4 out of 5) and was pleasantly surprised that it was actually really spicy (some thai places assume that we caucasians can't handle heat.) also the tom kha gai soup was on point. overall, it was a great meal...so much that i'll likely be going back here before i leave next week. read more

I'm from California and maybe I have higher standards but I had a horrible experience here. I ordered Panang curry with duck...they served the curry on a plate so I barely got any and the duck was very dry and flavorless! I was hungry and barely had curry and couldn't eat any of the duck!! Repeat customer. 99% of the time everything is perfect. The one% of the time everything is damn near perfect. Crispy Spicy Duck, #5 spicy, is my go-to meal but I switch it up on occasion. The Thai iced tea is delicious and the mango sticky rice for dessert..there's no better way to end a meal. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Try to have an empty glass of water, I dare you. I was at Thai Rak Thai over the weekend and I must say, what a GEM! This is my second time there and I was blown away with their papaya salad (spicy please) and amazing moist pad thai with shrimp, perfect balance of sweet, sour and little spicy! The noodles were perfectly cooked and must say, it's been one of the best thai meals i have had, keep it up! This place is delicious! Lunch price is very reasonable. I believe it's a little over $7. You get a small salad with a tangy peanut sauce over it. It's very good! There is a nice selection for the lunch menu. You get your food within 10 minutes, probably in 5 minutes. Your water is constantly refilled and the waiters are extremely nice! It's a very welcoming atmosphere. Also, I think you can order take out and go pick it up. The Thai Iced Tea and Coffee are really good! Plus you should definitely try the desserts. read more
