The family and I decided to check out this Thai restaurant during University of Scranton's Family Weekend. We ordered an assortment of curry dishes, rice, and drunken noodles. Everything was incredibly delicious and the waitress could not have been more accommodating and friendly. Seeing that the restaurant is BYOB, we brought our own bottle of white wine (which also helped to keep costs down). The waitress brought over a champagne bucket with ice to keep our wine cold. The waitress gave us 10% off since my son is a Univ Scranton student. While I thought this was only for Parents Weekend, it turns out the discount stands all year long! Excellent combinations of authentic Thai food with a relaxing atmosphere. They often ruin specials, currently $10 gift cards for $8 when paying with cash. Their staff is attentive and appreciative. Thai Rak Thai is definitely a gem in the Scranton area. The food seems very authentic as far as i know and super tasty. I've ordered the Pad thai every time i've been there and i absolutely loved it. Full of well cooked noodles, chicken and shrimp, vegetables, and a sweet nutty sauce packed with flavor. The vegetarian pad thai is just as great and includes tofu. A side of coconut rice is also very delicious and only $2.50 For dessert i tried the green tea ice cream. It has a different texture than normal ice cream but the flavor is all there. I thought it was a very refreshing way to end the meal and would recommend at least trying it once. I went with my girlfriend and the waiter gave us an extra scoop of ice cream so we could share it. The calamari was very good, and I got drunken noodles (which are rated as spicey) but asked for level 1 intensity. It was tough to eat it cos it was still pretty spicey. They also don't serve milk, so it was tough to find out what I could eat to cancel out the spice. I ended up getting some steamed rice and mixed it in with the noodles which made it a lot more tolerable. Overall a good meal and not expensive. read more

Wonderful, wonderful service. I would actually rate this place at about 3.5 stars, but decided to round up simply because I haven't tried enough of their (sizable) menu to make an accurate judgement. Downsides are that the dishes are on the pricy side for moderately small portions, and the food seems to be a bit hit and miss -- the seafood wasn't great (wasn't terrible either, though), but their Pad Prik King was fabulous! Their Pad Prik King was different from Pad Prik King dishes I've had at other Thai restaurants, and different in a good way -- spicy and savory with the familiar undercurrent of coconut. Having been on both sides of the coin, I understand that restaurants sometimes become busy, and that overwhelmed servers need to take a break every so often. However, I have to say that I was disappointed with my most recent experience here. The food was excellent as usual, but we sat for 45 minutes after finishing our meal and eventually had to flag a server down to get our check. Were we in a rush? No. Did we mind hanging out? No. But 45 minutes without even a brief checkup is not acceptable. We weren't asked if we wanted dessert. Also, although we exceeded it, we were told that there was a $15 minimum to use plastic (this practice is not allowed by Visa). This is not a very large restaurant. Having two parties of 10+ is not an excuse. What happened to all of the servers? read more

The food itself is 4 stars. The waitress however seems rushed and robotized. But what disappointed us the most was 2 things 1) we ordered a drunken noodle and asked for extra veggies in it. They said $3 charge. Whatever. Food came out, about 3 pieces broccoli 2 carrots and that was with the EXTRA veggies. So I couldn't imagine what the meal looked like without extra veggies definitely wouldn't have been hardy and probably just noodles! 2) I like to eat healthy, I like browns rice. So for 4 orders brown rice to be on the healthier side.... They bring out the jasmine rice that comes with meal and add the brown rices as $2.50 side. What a price to pay to be healthier. So now I have a dish included with the meal of white rice that I simply DO NOT EAT and will be wasted food (shame) as I pay another $10 (coulda got entire bag of rice with that) just so we could enjoy some simple undercooked brown rice in replace of the white rice. $10 is petty but what an annoyance of how they just ripped us. Delicious food, good service, nice decor. Was worried that Thai food in Scranton wouldn't be good but this was as good as any Thai rest I've been to in California. We ordered a variety of vegetarian plates: veggie spring rolls, green coconut curry with vegetables and tofu, pad thai with veggies, pad pak with veggies, pad see ew with broccoli, carrot. Every dish was executed properly. Lunch specials are super cheap, good portions. Came for dinner once as well, and prices were a bit higher than expected. I'd think for Scranton, the prices for all the entrees would be 2 to 3 dollars cheaper. But was happy with the food, decor and service so the price does not bother me. Amazing! The service was super friendly & timely. The food was delicious. My boys loved the chicken sate and my drunken noodles. My hubby got the yellow curry which was great. The frozen mango bubble tea was super yummy. My one son couldn't have it since he can't have dairy so they brought him mango juice. He was super happy! Ya will go back again, good service, friendly server, refill water glasses with out being asked A+, most place's you have to ask for water. Quick service, except, will tell you to call for a reservation, you will wait less. It seems to be very popular. If no reservation plan to wait. I will have to go again to check again! Food was good. We love this place. The server are always nice even if they sometimes get busy. It is BYOB if you are interested. Go early for bubble tea. My experience with Thai Rak Thai took place during lunch. It wasn't terribly busy and we were quickly brought to a table by a waitress. The restaurant is team served so everything happens very quickly - no glass is without water for long. We were immediately served a small portion of salad with a peanut-based dressing - a nice surprise. It's nice to have little extras sometimes. The lunch menu was reasonably priced and I chose the Drunken Noodles (my default Thai plate). The lunch portion was about half the size of take out orders, but it was enough to fill me. Plate presentation was surprisingly creative and most of the orders I saw were thought-out. The dining area was very clean, and the decor was very Eastern (as one would assume) and comfortable. My experience was very pleasant. My only complaint was that my lunch felt very rushed. I've only been here I need and I ordered the pad thai, beef panang curry, and I can't remember the other dishes but it was very good. Full of taste and spices... and I'm all about the spices. Great little nook and cranny type of place or the so-called "Hole-In-The-Wall" but it was still felt like the food was made and prepared just like it was in your own home. read more

I feel sorry for those of you who dwelled only on the food here. You missed the boat. It's the experience and the energy the staff provides. I know it seems like they push the special. I had it last week when I visited. It's was the duck and it was amazing!!! Three different sauces on top of crispy and juicy meat cooked to perfection with red and green bell peppers broccoli carrots steam rice etc.. Wow if this is the best Thai food has to offer in Scranton, I'm done with Thai food. The service was definitely lacking except to constantly fill our water glasses without asking. The food was overpriced and came out at lukewarm. Remember never send your food back. I was still hungry after an appetizer and an entree. Although the restaurant decor is tacky, they do serve great Thai food. Its probably the best food you could get around Scranton!! Drunk noodles, Pad Thai, Thai iced tea are my go-tos. For Thai, it's the best I had while working in Scranton. Very good food. The only thing that was a negative was that they didn't have an alcohol license, so you'll have to bring your own drinks. Also, the food was a little bland and not spicy at all, even if you asked for it to be spicy. Overall though, it was a positive experience and a restaurant I would recommend. read more

I loved the yellow curry because it was made just the way I like it...with no pineapple!

Chicken Panang curry was $13 for the dinner portion. It was enough food for 2 meals. The Panang sauce was delicious! The medium heat was the perfect amount of spice with the sweetness of the peanut curry sauce. The hot tea was great. I feel that Thai iced tea is too sweet for me, so just having the hot tea was perfect. read more

On my way home from a weekend in Philadelphia I stopped here to have a quick bite. I'm glad I picked this place! The food was GREAT. I only had soup and "golden rings" (calamari) but from the looks of all the empty plates on other tables I get the hint it's all good. The calamari was perfect; the rings were not too thick (sometimes they can be gross) and there was just the right amount of panko.
